Article: President Obama Word Count

Counting personal pronouns can be revelatory:

President Obama Uses Funeral Service to Talk About Himself

President Barack Obama used the funeral for Hawaii senator Daniel Inouye to talk about himself. In the short 1,600 word speech, Obama used the word "my" 21 times, "me" 12 times, and "I" 30 times.

This count is important. Article text did not allow for highlighting (S/A)
Obama's speech discussed how Inouye had gotten him interested in politics. "Danny was elected to the U.S. Senate when I was two years old," he said.
Speaking to the audience at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., Obama talked about his family and their vacations. "Now, even though my mother and grandparents took great pride that they had voted for him, I confess that I wasn't paying much attention to the United States Senate at the age of four or five or six.  It wasn't until I was 11 years old that I recall even learning what a U.S. senator was, or it registering, at least.  It was during my summer vacation with my family -- my first trip to what those of us in Hawaii call the Mainland," said Obama.
So we flew over the ocean, and with my mother and my grandmother and my sister, who at the time was two, we traveled around the country.  It was a big trip.  We went to Seattle, and we went to Disneyland -- which was most important.  We traveled to Kansas where my grandmother's family was from, and went to Chicago, and went to Yellowstone.  And we took Greyhound buses most of the time, and we rented cars, and we would stay at local motels or Howard Johnson's.  And if there was a pool at one of these motels, even if it was just tiny, I would be very excited. And the ice machine was exciting -- and the vending machine, I was really excited about that.

And so, slowly, during the course of this trip, which lasted about a month, some of this seeped into my head.  And the person who fascinated me most was this man of Japanese descent with one arm, speaking in this courtly baritone, full of dignity and grace.  And maybe he captivated my attention because my mom explained that this was our senator and that he was upholding what our government was all about.  Maybe it was a boyhood fascination with the story of how he had lost his arm in a war.  But I think it was more than that.
Now, here I was, a young boy with a white mom, a black father, raised in Indonesia and Hawaii.  And I was beginning to sense how fitting into the world might not be as simple as it might seem.  And so to see this man, this senator, this powerful, accomplished person who wasn't out of central casting when it came to what you'd think a senator might look like at the time, and the way he commanded the respect of an entire nation I think it hinted to me what might be possible in my own life.
Obama also mentioned the heroic life of Inouye. "And so we remember a man who inspired all of us with his courage, and moved us with his compassion, that inspired us with his integrity, and who taught so many of us -- including a young kid growing up in Hawaii –-- that America has a place for everyone," Obama concluded

Lost in the ocean, this narcissistic person could flash sos code with his ever present pocket mirror.

Or, content himself with hijacking funerals.

He only mentions him once by name.

Mr Obama's grandparents were wealthy.

We took our family on a month-long trip throughout the United States. There were 10 of us, kids all under 10..tent camping, and traveling in a 1957 Ford schoolbus that looked like a loaf of bread.

We ate one meal in a pizza hut because we were rained off of an island campground in Steamboat Springs. We stayed in a hotel for one night..on our anniversary, so I didn't have to sleep on the ground. Again.

What wonderful days..

That would have been appropriate during a eulogy for my husband, or someone who had been on the trip. It is self serving and inappropriate in a eulogy for a senator of great experience.

No matter who said it.

Merry Christmas John, and all
John you are correct this is Statement Analysis.

I watched the video. After one minute and 15 seconds of speaking, O says the Senators full name, as he in the first seconds calls him, Danny.

Senator Daniel Inouye
He mispronounces his name, his name is not Annoya, it is Inouye.
As Senator Reid pronounces his name proper, on the floor, announcing Senator Inouye's passing.

* raised in Indonesia, and Hawaii.
Order, he lived in Indonesia first. His said, not mine.

Is he speaking of his first trip to America? his bio says he went to school in Indonesia, until age 10.

Obama lies through as many teeth as he has in his mouth.

It is all about him.

When he leaves office i wonder how long before the truth starts leaking out?

I wonder what las will be enacted because of his antics?

Obama is the US version of tony blair

Oh the joys of Christmas.

This is not a recitation of facts. It's a homily to set the scene of the 70s and illustrate what Inouye symbolizes. The repeated "And" makes it sound more poetic.

I don't like the way Obama inserts himself into the story, but that's a matter of taste.

Yes, Hobnob,
When he leaves office, er, if he leaves office, he will have effectively destroyed the reputations and careers of any who go against him.

Without Judge Jeanine, I wonder if TV viewers might now not think Bengazi was the fault of the Ambassador. Palin. Hillary is tainted irreparably. Mind boggling what he did to Romney. And his next act looks like total destruction of the Republican party.
Obviously truth, honesty were not part of his upbringing.

When I heard "A" Barack Obama speech after John Kerry had thrown the towel in the ring and "we" [well, actually, most of "you"] all found ourselves with a second term of Bush Jr., I knew that I was listening to a future President of the United States of America. When he became one, I was only worried that it was too EARLY.

A categorical syllogism consists of three parts:

1 Major premise
2 Minor premise
3 Conclusion

A logically valid arguement would be:

1 SOME people dislike ALL black people
2 Obama is black.
3 Therefore, SOME people dislike Obama because he is black.

A false conclusion would be that All people dislike Obama because he is black.

My dislike for Obama has NOTHING to do with his skin color, nor did this post refer in any way to his race...it refers to word counts in S/A and the factual number of times Obama used the words I, me, or my in giving a eulogy for a non-family member. For crying out loud, is 'racism' the only argument the Obama lovers know how to make?!

It's the only way the "lefties" know how to play. *They* play the racism card to silence knowledge/truth.

Follow the (socialist) money/careers.

in fact, he is so perfect, only he is able to see how to change the world for all of the rest of us.

It was an interesting speech. But like I said in part previously, which rudely got deleted: (The truth hurts,'eh?)

If the exact same speech had been made by ROMNEY, this "hate" all democrats bunch would be worshiping and singing Romney's praises. Sad, very sad, to be filled with so much hatred.

I know this is hard for you anti-Obama people, but look at it this way...Somebody is happy about the outcome. If it would have gone the other way, nobody would be happy. Right?

Have a safe, happy holiday. :)

Yo', yo', yo' peoples, you're forgetting...(writing this way to prove a point)...

At a funeral for a person that has lived a long life, it is common knowledge that the person or persons speaking of the deceased speaks of HOW that person has enfluenced the speaker's live OR how they came about to be a part of their life.....That simple....

NOW, what's up with all this silly talk coming from all y'all ?
