Hailey Dunn Case: Generational Violence

Hailey Dunn lived her short life in a home where sexuality and violence were organically linked in a way that the public does not understand.

That which has been created to be tender is anathema to violence, yet it is in this unholy union that the seedy underworld of America exists...and it can be generational.

When a child witnesses violence from the nursery, the child may have the same "fight or flight" hormonal response that we adults have.  As the hormones surge, the brain responds and when the crisis passes, the adults "talks herself down", reminding herself that she is now safe, and the hormones to the brain quickly recede.

Think of this in a near car accident.

You are driving along when you are suddenly cut off and experience a surge of hormones as you squeeze the steering wheel.  In a few seconds (or less), the hormones recede as your brain processes that you are safe.  You breathe a sigh of relief and return to 'normal' mode.

It may be that MRI of the brain will show that a child experiences the same hormonal rush to the brain, while witnessing violence in the home, but having no debriefing mechanism to talk herself down, the imprint on the brain does lasting damage.

This is sometimes seen in PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) symptoms, such as hyper-vigilance, sleeplessness and a host of other problems.

Sometimes they surface at puberty.  This is when the damage done in early childhood from witnessing violence conspires with a new surge of hormones of puberty and the result is coupled with generational neglect in a family.

When the mother of Hailey Dunn, 13, missing, is confronted with accusations of guilt in Hailey's disappearance, she responds with the language of violence coupled with the language of human sexuality.  For her, violence and sex are linked.

The child pornography and bestiality are both evidence that sexual violence took place against children and animals.  Viewers of these experience sexual arousal at the pain inflicted upon children and upon animals.  This is consistent with childhood trauma, including sexual abuse and violence.  Drugs are then added to the mix to both numb the pain (self-medicating) and de-sensitize the intended victim (Hailey).

Shawn Adkins and Billie Dunn were found to have possessed more than 109,000 such deviant images.
Shawn Adkins and Billie Dunn were found to be purchasing drugs.
Shawn Adkins and Billie Dunn both failed polygraphs.
Shawn Adkins threatened violence against both Billie Dunn and Hailey Dunn.

When Billie Dunn agreed with a private investigator to work together, she handed him a list of people, not suspects, but those whom had accused her of guilty knowledge in the case.  She asked that the investigator "dig up dirt" on them, in order to use it against them to silence them.  This is also an indication of guilty behavior as the mother cares about her image rather than the missing child.  It is also why attorneys seek to keep their clients from public speaking in any form, including social media.

The pattern of sexual violence does not excuse the behavior, nor mitigate punishment.  It simply explains what appears, to many people, to be unexplainable. When one considers what befell Hailey Dunn, it is very difficult to accept that a mother and her boyfriend could have possibly done to her what it is that they, themselves, likely experienced in childhood.  This is why stranger abduction is such an easier story to believe, or that Hailey accidentally ingested parents' drugs, and they went into panic mode and hid the body.

Justice for Hailey means prosecuting to the full extent of the law.  The background only shows how abuse and neglect become generational.

Drugs, sexual perversion and violence were what attended the upbringing of Hailey Dunn, and were in attendance when she left this world, just as the paternal grandmother said, on National Television.

I received the following for your consideration in this case and present it here, exactly as sent.  It does not conflict the statements we have heard previously, nor the analysis of this case.

"Billie witnessed her father's brutal murder as a teenager, where she claimed that her mother began a downward spiral from sanity. She claims that is when her brothers began their extensive lives of crime, beginning lives of being in and out of jail. When Billie spoke of him, she spoke very highly of her father, and claimed to miss him greatly. She stated that he was an alcoholic but never violent towards her mother. She also stated that her mother was not faithful, and had a string of violent boyfriends after that."

This picture of Billie says it all. It's creepy and she seems to enjoy it. Billie pretends she didn't know Shawn was into all of this stuff but when I look at this picture, I see Billie enjoying it.

Billie stated she did make porn with Shawn and she isn't ashamed of it. If you listened to Peter and Mac on Crime Wire Tuesday night, Mac stated that the porn was left on the X box. Both Hailey & David played X box. I really hope the porn was on a memory stick and not loaded directly onto X box. How horrible would that be for your children to see that???

This case has brought out so many evil and disgusting things. The beastiality was something Billie talked openly about. She thought it was funny that Shawn sent something to her phone and seemed to think everyone had friends who did this. The satanic items noted in past discussions. The drugs. The home made violent videos made by Shawn and his friends of which Billie had part of.

Hailey never had a chance surrounded by all of this and I'm guessing more that we are still unaware of.

I was born in 73 and when i was a kid my grandma had a stack of old magazines left by the previous tenant. The magazines had a picture of a woman bound and scantilly clad. Sometimes there was an abductor JUST LIKE THIS PICTURE OF BD. i hadnt remembered these magazines until this picture triggered the memory. Inside were articles that sexualized murders. Ive never seen them again and no one else remembers them but iCLEARLY recall the magazines I saw. It was the only time my grandma ever whooped me too. She got me with a wooden spoon "fur lookin on things that could warp my brain" anyway this picture is so disturbing her smile, the raunchy top she has on, her trashy stripper hair, the hand on her stupid expression, and the hideous monstor i assume is SA obviously enjoying himself by how into his role he is. It is a clear window into her sick depraved mind.. AND NO BILLIE NOT EVERYONE HAS SEEN CHILD PORN OR BEASTIALITY. IF ANYONE EVER SENT ME CHILD PORN NEXT TIME I SAW THEM I WOULD BE POINTING EM OUT OF A LINE UP. Ewwww the things she says are as revolting as her slutty appearance. Yuk!

Thank-you, Mr. Hyatt, for posting this blurp about BJD's past. It does invoke in me a bit of empathy for her and honestly, reminds me that we are human. Of course it does, in absolutely no way excuse BJD, however, for those of us sitting and waiting for justice while a this woman brazenly engages in behavior so contrary to an innocent mother, it is nice to be reminded that empathy goes a long way in keeping us from being cynical.

I look at that photo and think "deviants'. Then I think back to the previous post from Hailey's old b/f and what she says about when her and Hailey drifted apart and it made me think of the why....

Instead of posting a whole lot of stuff people may not want to read about, I draw your att'n to "social control theory" under "Sociological Explanations Of Deviant Behavior" here: http://sociology.about.com/od/Deviance/a/Sociological-Explanations-Of-Deviant-Behavior.htm

Hailey desperately wanted her mom's love and attention. You can see it in the Christmas pictures. BJD was pushing Hailey way (body language speaking) and Hailey was visibly dejected.

In the end I wonder how far Hailey was willing to go for her mom's love or if in the end Hailey did a 180 and took a page out of her mom's book and tried to make BJ jealous.

Purely opinion/speculation on my part based on what has been presented in the public so far.

Interestingly enough, she stated he was "never violent towards her mother." Glaringly absent is if he was violent toward herself and her brothers.

Just as an addendum (and trying to think like a desperate/threatened teenager), maybe Hailey thought that by making SA look like a two-timer, she would get him kicked out of the house/their life and she would finally feel safe.

But given what we know now, (LE presumes Hailey dead), maybe her mom went off on her in a jealous rage and hurt her bad enough for her to die of her injuries. Given SA's thurst for blood lust, he would have really enjoyed watching BJD beat Hailey and BJD would have enjoyed his approval.

That would be the ultimate betrayal to Hailey, wouldn't it. BJ wouldn't have been able to justify beating Hailey (after BJ's own 911 call reporting that SA threatened her and Hailey) and SA would have been arrested for being with a minor (and following through on his threat.) So what would that ultimately mean? IMO, partners in crime and what better way to keep him under her thumb and in control/secure in her relationship, if she could manipulate him with their secret.

JMO/speculation based on what's been presented in the public forum.

I feel very sorry for Billie Dunn. Her background is heart breaking.

I believe that justice must be served with a heavy heart, whenever possible.

Billie antagonizes the public with her statements, even to the point of infuriating them. Her attorney should drop her if he cannot get her to stop.

Justice for Hailey!

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH ANON @ 1:15; further, I am shocked at you Peter, for having all this pity and empathy for Billie Jean Dunn, regardless as to WHAT she may have endured as a child, which you are projecting and speculating on to begin with. Is that not so?

Why no pity for Casey Anthony then for murdering HER child due to the perversions she endured as a child? Wasn't she sexually abused and raped by her daddy George for YEARS? Of course she was; every professional and learned expert I've researched says she was, not one says she wasn't!

You feel bad for Billie Jean? Billie Jean had all of her adult life to get help if she needed it and didn't. Fact is, Billie Jean LOVED her pervisions. Porn sex, threesomes with both men and women, child porn rape/sex, sex with animals. The kids were next in line IF they hadn't already been being sexually abused by Billie Jean and/or Shawn.

It was HAILEY who was in fear of her life, likely force-doped; was negelected, abused, raped and murdered with participation by her OWN mother.

I just cannot believe you said that. I am at such a loss for words that I can't even go on with this line of conversation.

Peter, you have PERSONALLY seen shocking abuse of a little girl. HOW COULD YOU every sympathize with her abuser? Or any other abuser.

I agree with your sentiments as to how nasty BJD (Casey Anthony etc) are and that they do deserve harsh punishment. I can't speak for Mr. Hyatt, but empathy does NOT mean you condone, accept, agree, or in any way feel "sorry" for a perpetrator. It simply means that you are human and are able to recognize that this person (BJD, CA, etc) SHOULD have been protected as a child too!

Like Mr. Hyatt said, it doesn't excuse it, it sadly explains the unexplainable. It gives us the WHY - averting no punishment.

Thank you for pointing that out Peter. Her background truly is heartbreaking. Having compassion and empathy for her childhood does not mean I think she is innocent. I believe she shares guilt equally with SA and will ultimately pay the price for that guilt.

What mj said above is so true... "empathy does NOT mean you condone, accept, agree, or in any way feel "sorry" for a perpetrator. It simply means that you are human and are able to recognize that this person (BJD, CA, etc) SHOULD have been protected as a child too!" ...

Peter brought attention extremely important societal issues (cycle of violence, nature versus nurture, etc)

He did not give Billie Jean a free pass for her involvement in Hailey's demise - since Day 1 Peter has called for Billie's head on a silver platter

He simply placed Hailey's demise in a MUCH BROADER CONTEXT than the simple-minded "evil people killed daughter to let's kill evil people and pretend the world is better with them out of it"

Ignoring Billie Jean's background - and Shawn's own background as well - ignores the root causes of society's problems, humankind's problems

Acknowledging and understanding their backgrounds and focusing does not in any way translate to granting them a free pass

Yowzah. Having empathy for another human being makes you a bad person? I think not.

I agree with what Peter said & yes I do feel sorry for her BJD. Does that make me like BJD or approve of the awful things she's done. No.

She is another human being dealing terribly with a great amount of pain. She was a little kid who's brain was tortured in short circuiting & not having empathy for others.

If she charged & goes to trial-do I want to see the maximum punishment for her? Yes.

Why? Because Hailey, HER DAUGHTER, was murdered by BJD (her mother) and her boyfriend.

You can exercise compassion & empathy for someone with out approving of what they have done & absolutely hating what they have done.

I feel bad for the person she was before this incident. She had the cards stacked against her. She was a precious child who had her innocence ripped away repeatedly throughout her life and no one to guide her. However, she, as an adult and a mother, made choices that may have led to her child's demise. Justice should be blind to her past.

Brunswick, Georgia (CNN)

-- The case of a 13-month-old boy shot dead in his stroller in this tiny waterfront town in southeast Georgia left authorities groping for more leads Friday as they searched for the killer.
"Right now, we are not ruling anyone or anything out," said Todd Rhodes, a spokesman for the Brunswick Police Department.
Police have received more than 30 leads and have offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the killer, he told reporters.
"We are thoroughly investigating this case and we will not, I repeat, will not leave any stone unturned," he said.
The baby was shot with a handgun, which has not been recovered, he said.
Though no one has reported seeing the shooting, several people called 911 after hearing it, he said.
"What we heard was that there were shots that went out in the area," Rhodes said.
Sherry West told reporters that the incident occurred at 9 a.m. Thursday. As she was walking home from the post office, pushing her son Antonio in a stroller, she said, she saw two boys.
"A boy approached me and told me he wanted my money, and I told him I didn't have any money," she said. "And he said, 'Give me your money or I'm going to kill you and I'm going to shoot your baby and kill your baby,' and I said, "I don't have any money and don't kill my baby.'
"And he tried to grab my purse and I tried to tell him 'I don't have any money' and then he shoved me and he shot me in the ear. It grazed my head," she said, pulling her left ear forward. "And then he shot me in the leg and I didn't feel it. It got numb. I thought it was just a BB gun because it was a small gun."
She continued, "And then, all of a sudden, he walked over and he shot my baby in the face."
West said she tried to perform CPR on her son and that the police took over when they arrived, but to no avail. "We lost him," she said.
During the incident, the smaller of the two boys was hiding behind the larger one, she said. "I don't know whether it was his brother or a friend."
West said she hoped the boys will receive the maximum sentence possible. "If they can use a gun like an adult, then they can be charged like an adult," she said. "I want to see lethal injection or at least life in prison. This child did nothing to him. He was innocent and helpless."
She described the shooter as an African-American, skinny with "a little bit of protruding eyebrows."
She urged residents to be on the alert. "If you see anybody like that, be careful. That's what I'm saying to everybody out there because he may still be in the area."
Asked whether people in the neighborhood should fear for their safety, police spokesman Rhodes said they should be alert and report any suspicious activity. "But no, they have no reason to live in fear," he added.
After stating that "there is no clear motive right now," Rhodes was asked about the mother's account of having been asked for money.
"That is what the mother said," Rhodes said. "We as law enforcement, we can't go off of what anyone says. We have to thoroughly investigate this case."
"This is obviously just a terrible day in the city of Brunswick," Mayor Bryan Thompson told reporters Thursday, "and made even more terrible by the senseless killing of a young child -- and it appears perpetrated by children themselves."
The city's website describes Brunswick, with a population of about 15,000, as "one of the most unique, historic and visually stunning places in the world."
It boasts 19th century Victorian-style homes, century-old oaks and magnolia tree-lined streets.

There is a family portrait of when Hailey was a little girl that invoked a lot of pity in me. It was primarily the small innocuous details that made me sad. You could see that this was a family that did not have a lot of money, but you could see in the picture the effort from BJD to get her kids all gussied up for that picture. It was the hair pieces she had on Hailey, that struck me. I felt that she must have had quite an exhausting day getting the family ready for this portrait and yet her smile was beautiful. She looked radiant and proud. Now looking back, it is truly sad to see what had happened. This was a girl that did grow up in a violent and disfunctional family. After a tragic death she saw her family fall apart right under her eyes. You can tell that she had overcome the odds while married to Clint and holding a job in nursing, but in the end, Clint was a pot head. The drug use persisted and his laziness must have impacted their relationship. It seems to me that BJD just gave up on the struggle to move ahead. That is the heartbreaking part in all of this. Had she persisted, she would have broken the ties to such an ugly past and her kids would have been saved from having the same difficulties she had. This is an example of how you are raised plays a big part in the choices you make in your life. It is hard to break the habits that come from a disfunctional family.

To all who "feel sorry" for BD: I was there in the very beginning remember? I took her household items and food that was donated.-I felt sorry for a momma that lost her baby.-before anything came out in the open; but now; all that we know, you still feel sorry for her? Yes she may have had a terrible child hood, however, she has had all of her adult life to get professional help for that-but- she has chose not to, she has chose a life of sex, lies, and drugs just to name a few. Remember Marc Klass? he saw right through her and got outta there just as quick as he could-I was there. It took BD lying to investigators in front of me for me to realize "hey this is bad"-I then got out of there real quick-and never went back. Fortuneately, she is going to face TX justice, and they dont care what her childhood was like. TX does not play-you do the crime, you will do the time. She has made her bed, and she is fixin to lye in it!! Feel sorry for Hailey, cuz there is enough evidence to show what a mother BD was. BD does not deserve a sentence handed down by a heavy heart, she deserves what she gets plain and simple.

Tania Cadogan said...

In such cases as this it is possible to feel some sympathy for the killer as well as for the victim as well as demanding justice be done.

When we are born we are a blank slate.
It is our life experiences, our familiy and friends, our environment, our health and how we accept and deal with them which make us who we are.

It can be that a child from an abusive and dysfunctional family, pretty much left to raise themselves, exposed to all that is wrong in society can turn out to be an abuser, a criminal, dysfunctional themselves and so the cycle continues.

It can also be that a child in the exact same circumstances turns out to be someone who cares, has a wonderful family, helps others less well off perhaps in the same situation they were in.

The only difference being one perhaps got help, was praised and encouraged to make something of themselves whilst the other one didn't.

It can also be the opposite, a loving and supportiver family, praise, and so on who can go on to commit the most horrendous crimes, whilst another goes on to be a world leader, a surgeon, someone who does good.

How much of it is nurture and how much is nature?

How much is down to our genes?

What makes someone commit an horrendous crime .
What turns someone into a killer as an adult and in another case a killer as a child?

If they had been brought up differently would it have made a difference?
could it boil down to a specific detail, a single moment in time where there was multipl choice and they chose to do this and do that.

Having a deprived childhood doesn't always make you a criminal otherwise we wouldn't have criminals in well to do society as we do.

Often we can only guess what makes someone do what they did.
We can see the links and even a pattern which would make them more likely to commit a crime or to do good deeds, it isn't a surefire way though.

Like Peter i have some sympathy for billie, what led her to hook up with shwn, her life choices.
if you don't know any better, if you have no aspirations you will take whatever is offered.
What i don't have sympathy for is that sh made her choices and despite all that happened stayed with them rather than accept there were other options, other choices.
her history shows that any man is better than no man regarless of his character.
She has made her choices, hailey is and was never her priority, billie is her priority and we will see this moreso once the remains are identified.

So far she is firing warning shots over shawn's bows.
If the remains are that of Hailey then billie will move fast to distance herself and will shove shawn under the bus.

Shawn has stayed silent, he is either being smart and keeping his cards close to his chest or his attorney has gagged him.

Billie talking as she has is possibly an attempt to get a reaction from shawn, she needs to know what he is doing should it be Hailey so she can decide her own moves.
First to talk wins the prize.

Who is going to blink first i wonder?

Red Ryder said...

Something about this that has bothered me is that Billie was allowed to dispose of the couch that Hailey slept on and replace it in the early days of her disappearance. Any possible evidence was gotten rid of almost immediately. Why didn't the police stop them? There were suspicions at that point. Does anyone else remember when this happened? For some reason I think it was in the first 10 days but I could be off:) Thx.

Is there any evidence that these two were/are into fetish life or S and M? I wonder if they have profiles online? That photo of them together makes me think that they are into the fetish life and I suspect he took his possible rape fantasies over to Hailey. Billie has to be into pain, she has all sorts of new facial piercings and tats and she also etched a tattoo into her own son.
