Justin DiPietro's Earned Arrogance

The enabler
So he's arrogant and he's entitled.  So, what?  He's got every right to be. He earned it, when he snubbed investigators and with his meager IQ, bested them in interviewing.

Tip your hat to him.

Maine has no one to blame for this mess but its own hired attorneys.

He showed up late for court.

Who gives a damn?  You think he fears the Maine justice system?

Let's see just how complex this case is:

A battered bruised baby gets a broken arm from daddy, who, unable to hold a job, gets involved in the low level drug trade after watching too many Sopranos episodes.

He tells the baby's mother he fears kidnapping.

While unemployed, he buys life insurance in a piggy back package AGAINST the life of the little girl and in a few weeks, surprise, surprise, she is kidnapped!'

His whereabouts tell a story.

He flunks his polygraph.

The little girl's blood is all over the house.

Maine's hired attorneys...the state or government attorneys, sit on their hands and do nothing?

Yep.

They say, "we need a body" even though other state attorneys don't.

The talented attorneys get pulled out into the private sector for the big bucks, leaving behind those who have not filed charges.

Where's Alex Hunter when needed?

DiPietro does not need him, he's got the Maine state attorneys.  The judge did not dare even follow through with the arrest.

There's no reason for the entitled, spoiled brat to fear.

Had he skipped feeding a cat, Maine judicial system would have hammered him...he would be behind bars.

harming a baby?  Ah, not so bad.

We're not real big on family, babies, and that sort of thing, here in Maine.  We do, however, love our cats, coffee brandy, and entitlements.  You think this guy is ever going to work for a living?  Once one learns to game the system, they can actually earn more staying home, playing video games and keeping a pulse. After all, in the Maine school system, everyone comes in

Listen to what DiPietro says and ALWAYS believe him.

A judge initially issued an arrest warrant for DiPietro, but he eventually showed up and entered the not guilty plea.
The judge set DiPietro's bail at $300 and ordered him to have no contact with Roberts.
WMTW News 8’s Paul Merrill spoke with DiPietro by phone on Thursday.  He was more interested in avoiding questions than answering them.
When asked what slowed him down Thursday morning in getting to court DiPietro responded, “Nothing slowed me down.  I was right where I needed to be.”
The arrogance is consistent.  He is a product of Maine's social system where hard work and initiative are viewed suspiciously.  Note the arrogance and cocky attitude in his words.
He wouldn’t answer questions about the assault charge from July 6 when a Portland police lieutenant reported seeing DiPietro push and grab his one-time girlfriend, Courtney Roberts, on Spring Street.
"I told the court everything that I needed to tell the court,” DiPietro said.
Listen exactly to what he said:  what he told the court (strong, with pronoun "I") is exactly what he "needed" to tell the court.  He does not "need" to tell the truth and makes this very clear.
The narcissism rings through his words.

He can beat his girlfriend while staying at a hotel.  Who do you think pays the hotel bill?

Unless you know the system, you cannot imagine the ongoing freebies to be cashed in on and how much tax payers have to chip in.  You would be infuriated if you knew.
DiPietro’s daughter, Ayla Reynolds, was reported missing from his Waterville home on Dec. 17, 2011.
Police have never charged anyone with a crime or named any suspects but investigators have said they believe Ayla is no longer alive and that the people – including DiPietro – who were inside his home where she was last seen have been holding back information.
Merrill asked, “State police say you know more about Ayla's disappearance than you're telling them."
To which the arrogant can shrug his shoulders and CASH his state check and go back to playing a video game or using Courtney's head as a speed bag, or flip a few vicodins on the street.

Just don't forget to feed the cat.

Lying seems to be his first and only defense however he is not very good at it. Do those who believe him about Ayla also believe these other obvious lies? Isnt it eye opening to them when he lies over little things that cant be disputed. LE and the courts are not lying about the assault, being late...He lies about the little things and expects to be believed about the big things. LE witnessed the assault on Courtney but Justin says that didn't happen. He was late for court, that didn't happen either. Where is Ayla???

Excellent commentary. This is the world our politicians and attorneys have created ir order to drum up more business for themselves. Just as they generate the very racism they supposedly promise to eradicate, they have created an uglier world where criminals are protected and the innocent are victimized, all to empower themselves. This country is going backward, and it won't be long until all of us fear simply waking up in the morning as we wonder how Big Brother will control us next.

Merrill asked, “State police say you know more about Ayla's disappearance than you're telling them."

To which DiPietro said "OK."

Merrill: “What do you say to that? Is that true?”

"Absolutely not," DiPietro said.

DiPietro said he’s still living in Waterville with his mother. He said he is still looking for Ayla and said he doesn’t exactly recall the details of his last contact with state police.

"My answer's going to be the same thing for everything. You know what I mean? I've told the people that need to know what's going on what's going on and that's that. You know what I mean? If you keep asking me, you're going to keep getting the same answer, man,” DiPietro told Merrill.

So Justins response first calls MSP liars about him not telling all he knows. Arrogance personified!

He then says he can not recall details of his last visit with MSP. Contradiction personified. In order to claim absolutely that MSP is lying, does not one have recall the details of the meeting?

He then says "I've told the people that need to know what's going on what's going on and that's that. You know what I mean?" Hell no we don't know what you mean. Who is it that you told and what did you tell them. Ayla is still missing, you say you are looking but will not explain where, why or anything so the rest of the world can look as well!

Peter, you know I suck at SA and I would love to get your take on the page two of the article and Justins flippant attitude towards the judicial system, LE and the public media that is supposed to be trying to help find his daughter? Please SA these replies to Merrill?

I think most people think JD had something to do with Aylas' dissapearence, but he is still able to get dates and continue living. Does he even have a minimum wage job. Or just sit home, living off mama, girlfriend and a few small time drug deals on the side.

The "I's" (apologizing for any grammar or usage errors here since the common phrase begins with "ayes") have it. He is owning this, and he thinks he is doing the right thing. Blech.

Just remember that the justice system we have has been changed over time to make it as fair as it can be. People aren't perfect. Our ancestors voted for this. They supported the legislation. They did it because it was traditionally weighted in favor of the governments, state and federal, and against the defendants.

If you were black, Irish, Catholic, Jewish, female, poor, whatever, you didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting a fair hearing.

Still, we have one of the best justice systems on the planet. Not perfect, but good enough for now. Thank your lucky stars and then take the time to vote your conscience when election day rolls around.

Have a good weekend. E.H.

DiPietro initially didn’t arrive for his 8:30 a.m. appearance in Cumberland County Superior Court until 10 a.m., which led to the threat of an arrest warrant, according to a court clerk.

DiPietro, however, said he arrived on time.

“I don’t think that’s true,” he said, referring to his late arrival time.

DiPietro, who said he’s “living in his mom’s basement,” is “trying to live a normal life.”

@John P - Here's my take on a few of the things from the article.

Merrill asked, “State police say you know more about Ayla's disappearance than you're telling them."
To which DiPietro said "OK."

****Here's a perfect opportunity for Justin to say "That is not true. I have told State Police everything I can remember. I contact them when I think of things that can help." Instead he just says "ok" as if to say "I have no response to that, continue."

Merrill: “What do you say to that? Is that true?”

"Absolutely not," DiPietro said.

****Merrill should have stopped at "What do you say to that?" He may have gotten a more comprehensive answer. Instead when he adds "Is that true" he allows Justin to give a short answer to the question. Even within such a short answer Justin shows sensitivity and a need to persuade by adding the absolutely.

DiPietro said he’s still living in Waterville with his mother. He said he is still looking for Ayla and said he doesn’t exactly recall the details of his last contact with state police.

****This is not a quote but Merrill gives the gist of the conversation. Justin tries to avoid answering the question about his last contact with MSP by saying he doesn't exactly remember. If your daughter were missing and you were innocent, you'd hang onto every word LE said to you hoping to be able to figure out what was going on. If your daughter were missing and you were under a cloud of suspicion and guilty, you'd hang on every word LE said to you wondering how close they were to finding out the truth.

"My answer's going to be the same thing for everything. You know what I mean? I've told the people that need to know what's going on what's going on and that's that. You know what I mean? If you keep asking me, you're going to keep getting the same answer, man,” DiPietro told Merrill.

****Obviously his answer is not going to be the same thing for everything. There's different answers depending on the question. Justin, at this point, is trying to end the conversation. He sounds uncomfortable and is beginning to get combative with the reporter. He also says "that's that" which is another way to try to stem the flow of information and end a conversation. He tells the reporter he'll just keep giving him the same answers - another way to end the conversation. By the end of this mini interview, Justin really wants the reporter to stop asking questions and go away.

Hopefully this helps.

off topic

A Utah judge has ruled that a man accused of killing his four-year-old stepson can stand trial for murder charges.

Prosecutors, who claim Nathan Sloop and his wife starved and abused the boy for several days until his death in May 2010, plan to seek the death penalty.

Four-year-old Ethan Stacy's body was found, with his face disfigured from hammer blows, in mountains. The makeshift grave had been sprinkled with dog food.

Sloop, 34, was ordered on Thursday to stand trial for aggravated murder, child abuse, obstruction of justice and desecration of a body.

After a preliminary hearing in March, Judge Glen Dawson was asked by the prosecution consider the constitutionality of 'Shelby’s Law,' a 2007 amendment to Utah’s homicide statute that allows prosecutors to seek the death penalty, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

The law allows the sentence to be handed down in cases where a child dies as a result of abuse. The prosecutors would not have to prove the killing was intentional, only that it was a 'reckless indifference to human life'.

Sloop's defense lawyers are trying to challenge the law under which the prosecution is seeking the death penalty, according to the Huffington Post.

They argued that the hearing in March was only preliminary and that their full case had not yet been heard.

However, the judge said it was too early to hear constitutional arguments about the death penalty.

Sloop, from Farmington, Utah, who is due back in court on August 13, pleaded guilty to charges last year, but later invoked his right for a judge to hear testimony and evidence to determine whether there was probable cause for a trial.

His wife, Stephanie, who is also accused of contributing to her son's death, is awaiting trial.

Ethan had traveled from his home in Virginia, where he lived with his father, Joe Stacy, to stay with his mother as part of a custody agreement.

During a preliminary hearing earlier this year, a medical examiner testified that Ethan died from a combination of too many over-the-counter medications, pneumonia and severe burns, likely caused from hot water in a tub.

A burn specialist testified that the injuries would have left the boy dehydrated and nauseous and caused his skin to blister and fall off.

The burns would have required skin grafts and weeks of hospital treatment. Dr Jeffrey Saffle said.

Tania Cadogan said...

The child's face was beaten beyond recognition with a hammer, his body was burned and dog food was sprinkled over him. He had allegedly also been starved and bruised.

At a hearing in March defense attorneys said that though the parents did not seek the right medical treatment, they did try to get help for the boy.

The evidence showed the Sloops had asked their chiropractor how to treat Ethan’s second-and third-degree burns, along with how to handle Ethan’s behavioral issues, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

The chiropractor, who never examined Ethan, told them to put honey on the wounds and give the boy oregano oil to control the behavioral issues.

Defense attorney Richard Mauro said: 'They thought that Ethan was sick. They believed that he was ill and they thought he had an allergy. They were giving him over-the-counter medications and they ended up harming him more than they were helping him.'

The court also heard about the amount of prescription medication that Sloop was taking in the months before Ethan died, during the preliminary hearings.

According to a Department of Professional Licensing document, which tracked all of the narcotics that the 34-year-old was prescribed, he was given 4,146 pills in an 11-month period including Lortab, Valium, Percocet, an antihistamine and anxiety medication.

At the hearing in March the court heard disturbing video recordings, phone calls and horrific messages about how the Sloops would allegedly treat Ethan and how they would have to 'break his ego'.

In addition to capital murder, the defendant also faces charges of obstructing justice and intentionally inflicting serious injury on a child, and desecration of a dead body, Desert News reported.

Prosecutor David Cole told the March hearing that Ethan was scalded, beaten, over-medicated and not given the medical care that he needed.

The defense argued the boy was given too much Benadryl, Tylenol and decongestant and died from dehydration.

The court heard tapes where Sloop told police he would slap the child, make him stand with his nose against the wall and once pushed him into scalding water.

The court also heard a jail-house phone call at the hearing in March to his mother when Sloop called Ethan 'poison' that sunk his relationship with the child's mother 'like a battleship'.

He also said the boy was disobedient and misbehaved, often sneaking from his room and turning on video games or going to the refrigerator.

In a short video that was shown during the March hearing, Ethan can be seen looking dishevelled with some redness on his cheek. He says to the camera: 'I'm having fun with Nathan. He's not scary anymore.'

In an audio recording also played in court, Sloop can be heard asking Ethan numerous times whether he wanted to stay in Utah or return to live with his father in Virginia. He repeatedly asked the boy if his father was mean or hurt him.

'Where do you want to live?' Sloop asked.

Through tears and wheezing, Ethan croaks back: 'My mom, my mom, my mom.'

I look at the pictures of Ethan and they immediately remind me of Kyron Horman.

I still think adults should be vetted and licenced before they are allowed to have a child.

Prospective parents have to jump through hoops and fill in reams of paperwork and have all sorts of checks done before they are allowed to foster let alone adopt a child, yet junkies, alcoholics, people with serious criminal records, mental health issues, abusers and so on are allowed to have as many children as they like, even when they are shown to be a danger to their children, neglectors, abusers and someone not to be trusted with a safety crayon or pet rock. In fact it is their right to have children even when they can't or won't support them and have children taken away from them even to the moment they are born.

There should not be a right to have children, it is a gift. if you are lucky you can have many healthy children, if you are unlucky they may have physical or mental health idisabilities, if you are very unlucky you cannot conceive or carry a child to term. In these cases mother nature is doing her bit to have a healthy gene pool, survival of the fittest and such like.

Instead we see people spending thousands in order to have a biological child even though said child is at increased risk of disability and health issues (if you use poor quality ingredients you get a poor quality product)

As it stands we are now seeing the efects of IVF on the next generations , we see fertility dropping, we see all sorts of health problems arising which will not get better as each generation matures.

If you are that desperate for a child adopt, there are millions of babies out that in need of a good and loving home, yet are ignored because they don't look cute, may not be perfect health wise, the wrong sex, color, nationality or any number of excuses.
What they really mean is the child is second hand goods, parents don't want someone else's reject even though the child is not at fault.

Perhaps if prospective parents were vetted as well as they do for those wanting to adopt a child or even a pet, perhaps our children would be safer.

if you neglect a child a mandatory 25 yr sentence for each offence to run concutrrently, abuse a child mandatory LWOP, kill a child, then death no ifs or buts.

What's the deal with the exaggeration? Initially it was said that baby Aylas' blood was found on the basement floor. Now you are saying it was found "all over the house"? Why exaggerate? It was theorized that a cup full of Aylas' blood was spilled on that basement floor, clearly enough blood loss for her to die without exaggerating.

Initially it was said that the THREE in the house were not telling the whole story. Courtney Roberts was one of those three. Why the pity for her just because Justin shoved her around a little? Good I say. Maybe they'll kill each other eventually, and maybe they should since none of the three will tell the truth about what they did to baby Ayla, which one, or where they dumped her.

What else would you expect of child killers other than that they duke it out with each other? haha! Maybe in time Justin will slap her around so much that she'll get tired of it and tell what they did with precious Ayla. I hope so.

@Boston Lady: I post here occasionally but have read Peter's blog since he first started it years ago. I read the comments, as well, and most of the time you & I have have the same opinions but if not, I respect you for stating your opinion until today.

I am an animal rights activist but I have never, nor would I ever harm another human being, let alone kill them. Obviously, I also know a lot of other animal rights activists and they have never killed anyone, either.

I am also a child abuse advocate which has had me on the receiving end of a few druggie parents who's children were removed from their homes by CPS due to my active involvement. I'm also unpopular with people just because they think I should mind my own business because children belong with their parents. My activism for children has exposed me to being on the receiving end of a lot of hateful, untrue gossip, threats of violence & once even a threat against my life if I were to ever be involved in her children being taken from her. I've only received gratitude and kindness being an animal activist so the ugly brush you've painted us all with is unjust, undeserved and hurtful. Yes, some animal activists are violent, etc., but they can be found in ANY group of people.

What animal activist murdered another human *because* of their activism? When was the last time you heard of an animal activist being violent *because* of their activism? (Throwing flour on a Kardashian was uncalled for but certainly not violent) Maybe you should do research on groups of people before you choose to libel them on a public forum.

I do agree with Peter's sentiments, however, for the most part, but a judge's pathetic sentencing has nothing to do with me, nor any other animal activist.

Educate yourself with facts, Boston Lady. And why not be part of the solution to the world's many problems instead of adding to them by posting lies as facts. Pay it forward, never backward.

Boy, people sure get a major case of the frownies when their scandals are exposed.

Crosby: "I NEVER Lobbied PM Over Cigarettes".

The Tory elections strategist insists he NEVER EVEN spoke to David Cameron about plans for standardised cigarette packets.

Snipped:

"The Prime Minister has repeatedly and clearly said that I have NEVER lobbied him on ANYTHING, including on the issue of tobacco or plain packaging of cigarettes," he said.

"AT NO TIME have I had any conversation or discussion with or lobbied the Prime Minister, or indeed the Health Secretary or the health minister, on plain packaging or tobacco issues.

"Indeed, any claim that I have sought to improperly use my position as part-time campaign adviser to the Conservative Party is SIMPLY FALSE."

"David Cameron has REFUSED TO DENY that he has had a conversation with Lynton Crosby about tobacco policy on at least 16 occasions. IF LYNTON CROSBY IS TELLING THE TRUTH, WHY ON EARTH COULDN'T DAVID CAMERAN SAY THIS HIMSELF?," he asked.

Mary, there was nothing wrong with BostonLadys' post from yesterday. It was a nice post and well spoken.

It appears to me that you just used her post to be disagreeable and to toot your own horn in your animal rights activism.

While yours is a worthy cause for which you are to be commended, so is her post and her right to state her beliefs and opinions. You could have easily done the same thing without demeaning Boston Lady.

Oh, Peter and Heather, I hope everything is well with you folks and the anon above is wrong. I've come to delight and relate to your charming family.

I'm not sure if my experience will help anyone else, but it help(s)ed me, so, corny but, here goes: My husband of 25+ years is my best friend, right now :) Over the years,eh, not always so. There were ups and downs where we were each others worst nightmare (literally exaggerating). In retrospect I know the worst times correspond with each our own selfishness and fear of (personal)compromise, per as society taught/teaches us to judge and value fluctuates over time.

I know I have much more to learn through experiences, but I will say it helps me to keep a few things in mind: 1) Adapting, especially for the peace and comfort of a loving family) is different then compromising. 2) Intermittent, unexpected estrogen crashes will make some women "not herself lately". (Sometimes referred to by my older, more experienced sister-friends as: bat-?-crazy, nuts, psycho, etc.) These moments pass more quickly and with best over-all results when a "man" sincerely cares enough to provide his wife comfort (ie: understanding, compassion, support). A simple gesture (holding hands, etc.) and sincere concern has been the best medicine I've found for a rough spot in a marriage.

SA can challenge a marriage as well. Sincerity is not the same as truth, but either can be easily id'd by words and actions.

A recent exchange went like this:

Woman- I'm not going to argue about it!
Man- Maybe shutting up would help!
Woman- Oh, you are SO lucky you dropped the pronoun!

that animals are being valued more than a human life. The "peaceful" animal rights activists will kill someone to free a squirrel

Boston lady made a broad generalization about animal rights activists that deserved rebuttal. Mary did so appropriately. Just as this thread takes a story about a child murderer and quickly moves to demean everybody on government assistance in the state of Maine, Boston Lady insinuated many who care about animal rights are prone to being violent or value animals more than humans. Murderers who care about animal rights and murderers who live on government assistance are the exception to the rule. To use murderers to bash one's political agenda is laughable and deserving of being called out on it. Mary showed restraint in her response.

Good read- I'll echo how pissed I get seeing Justin get away with abusing EVERYONE and everything in his path. I'm tired of seeing the campaign thank you tour of this DA! The plaque awards and PR stomping, announcements of new programs, ENOUGH ALREADY! GET SOME WORK DONE, DA! Prosecute this drain and detriment to society, DiPietro, and his 5-6 cohorts: Elisha, Phoebe, Tudellas, et al.

I get the feeling that all the trolls with colorful names and language come from Justin Dipshit and his supporters.

Maybe also, Pill Billi and her group.

Who else would do this? Hiding behind their computer, talking trash and nonsense like a badly raised 10 year old. They can't even string together a thought. That's all the Statement Analysis I'll do

"I told the court everything that I needed to tell the court."
AGAIN 'NEEDED' IS ON HIS MIND. WHAT DOES JD NEED? HE ALSO REPEATS 'TELL THE COURT' ...HE LEFT OUT INFO IN COURT.

IN THIS SHORT ANSWER TWO THEMES:
I NEEDED
TELL THE COURT

If Elisha DiPietro knows the truth then why hasn't she spoken the truth to LE?

Just wondering.

And if Elisha DipIetro has spoken the truth why does McCausland state: "She (Ayla Reynolds) did not leave that home by herself and she was not abducted," McCausland said. "We believe [Justin DiPietro] knows more than he has told us. ... We think that he or the two others inside that home may have information that they just haven't told us."
