Statement Analysis: Phoebe DiPietro Statement

The following is a statement from Phoebe DiPietro, regarding the news that Trista Reynolds is taking the evidence police gave her, to the public, in hopes that prosecutors will arrest those responsible for Ayla's disappearance.

From the beginning of this story, Statement Analysis indicated:

Justin DiPietro for deception;
Phoebe DiPietro for deception
and that Justin DiPietro revealed knowledge, immediately on, that his daughter was deceased.

Justin DiPietro, as single father of two children from two different mothers, took out a life insurance policy against, not for, one child, and not the other.  The target of the life insurance policy was then reported "kidnapped" about six weeks later.

Behavioral Analysis indicated that the family was not seeking to locate Baby Ayla, and has not cooperated with police.  Police later confirmed that Justin DiPietro, his sister, Elisha, and his girlfriend, Courtney Roberts, were deceptively withholding information from police on the baby's disappearance.

Dear Members of the Media and Public -- For 21 months my family has been heartbroken waiting for word on Ayla. Praying daily and hoping every time the phone rings that the authorities have found Ayla. Blog world, the newspapers and even the evening news have a way of distorting the truth.
You have heard and read over and over again that Law Enforcement believe the 3 adults know more than what they are saying. Let me ask you this, if they so strongly believe that, why are they not asking the questions? Why are they not scheduling meetings with my family or with my attorney?
Trista can say and do what she wants. To the best of my knowledge LE has not confirmed her allegations nor stated that she has been cleared as a suspect herself. I believe that the Focus should remain on finding Ayla. Once Ayla is found then and only then will I think about justice. Justice is served only when all facts and evidence are known and presented in a court of law.
For my family – the last thing left in Pandora ’s Box is hope. We choose to hold on to hope that Ayla will be found and brought home. If 3 adult women were held captive for over a decade and finally rescued then please believe there is hope Ayla will be found alive. So we ask and plead that the public continues to look for Ayla. Her eyes are beautiful and distinctive which will be a good focal point in looking for her. We continue to pray that a Good Samaritan will come forward with the information LE needs to bring Ayla home. Ayla, my granddaughter is out there alive so please do not give up looking for her. If you know anything please come forward.
Phoebe DiPietro

Here is the same statement with emphasis added, with Statement Analysis in bold type.  Please remember that the "statement is alive; the subject is dead"; that is, we are not analyzing Phoebe DiPietro, nor anyone who may have written this for her, with her, and coached her; but we are analyzing the statement itself.  We expect her to say that her family did not cause the disappearance of Ayla Reynolds.

Dear Members of the Media and Public --

Where someone begins a statement is often quite important.  Here we have "Media" listed before "Public", placing "Media" first.  The reader should be aware of sensitivity by the subject towards Media, in general.  The Media has reported that the police believe that her son, Justin DiPietro, his girlfriend, Courtney Roberts, and his sister, Elisha DiPietro, have deliberately conspired to withhold information from the police on what happened to Ayla.

This is a good place for the subject to tell us:  Her family did not cause the disappearance of Ayla Reynolds.  From the de facto innocent, this is something we expect to hear immediately.

For 21 months my family has been heartbroken waiting for word on Ayla.

Note that they have been "waiting for word" and not searching, nor seeking to find her via Media.  Note that the family did not reach out, in the first 48 hours, to the "kidnapper" whom the father claimed took Ayla because the "kidnapper" did not approve of Justin's parenting.  Note that this would reduce the number of suspects to a very small number:  only someone who is familiar with Justin's parenting, either through contact with him, or with the mother's family.

Behavioral analysis of the family has shown guilty knowledge; that is, a desire to not find Ayla.  This is why the subject says "waiting for word" and not finding her.  In the first 48 hours, we heard of no concern for her well being.  Statement Analysis deals with what someone says and what someone does not say.  It deals with the "Unexpected."

The Expected:

When a child goes missing, the "expected" is panic by the parents, along with parental instincts engaged: the parent will do anything to find the child.

Use the media in any and every way to get out word;
Take and pass polygraphs;
Implore, day and night, police to find Ayla

In the case of Justin DiPietro, we found a deliberate hindrance of finding Ayla, and in the case of Phoebe DiPietro, we saw a deliberate deception to Media in which she "heard nothing" that "night" Ayla "went missing" only to later be forced to admit that she was not even in the home that night.

The Unexpected:

No use of media to make contact with Ayla

Failed polygraph  (Justin "smoked" his, rather than "passed", while Elisha did "fine" rather than passing hers.

Limit of information, including "that's all I know", and "I've done everything I can" (indicating limitation).

Note that in this context, she is "Ayla" (first name)

Praying daily and hoping every time the phone rings that the authorities have found Ayla.

Note that the subject does not say that she, nor her family, is praying daily and hoping the phone rings....this is a lack of commitment to the statement, via dropped pronoun.

Regarding being found, she is "Ayla" (as we continue to note the name usage)

Blog world, the newspapers and even the evening news have a way of distorting the truth.

Note the order:

1.  Blog world is most important as it is mentioned first.
2.  Newspapers
3.  "even" the evening news.

It should be noted that it was on the evening news that Phoebe was deceptively answering questions (note prior entry, including body language signals of deception).

Note that she says that they have "distorted" the truth; rather than being wrong, or even lying.

Her greatest concern is "blogs"; as it would be interesting to ask which blogs cause the most sensitivity?  We know that the mother of Ayla Reynolds' family has a blog.

You have heard and read over and over again that Law Enforcement believe the 3 adults know more than what they are saying.

Note that this was stated once by police, and that the repetition, "over and over" is sensitive to the subject.  It is here that we now deal with the expected versus the unexpected...

The expected:  "The three told the truth"

The unexpected:  A question in an open statement.

This is a perfect opportunity for the subject to tell us that the three told the truth, nothing but the truth, and all of the truth, to police, about what happened to Ayla.

Statement Analysis rule:

If the subject is unwilling or unable to say it, we are not permitted to say it for her.

It is curious as to why she does not name the "3 adults" in the open statement.  This is equivalent to an incomplete social introduction, indicating a poor relationship.

Let me ask you this, if they so strongly believe that, why are they not asking the questions? Why are they not scheduling meetings with my family or with my attorney?

Note that when a subject asks a question in an open statement, we should be aware that the subject may be speaking to herself, and not to her audience.  In this case, we find that she asks questions, rather than tell us that the three told all the truth to the police.

It is likely that the subject does not have answers to these questions and this may be the "waiting" for the phone to ring that is mentioned above.  The subject avoids telling us that the three told the truth.

Note the inclusion of "my attorney" and not "our" attorney.

Trista can say and do what she wants.

Trista Reynolds is introduced with first name only.  This is an open statement to Media and to the Public and is an Incomplete Social Introduction, indicating a poor relationship.

To the best of my knowledge LE has not confirmed her allegations nor stated that she has been cleared as a suspect herself.

Note that she adds the words "to the best of my knowledge" which indicates that she is aware that police may have confirmed Trista Reynolds' allegations that Justin DiPietro caused the disappearance of Ayla Reynolds and that his sister and his girlfriend are conspiring to withhold the facts from investigators.
Note the introduction of "suspect" in regard to Ayla.  Police have not said she was a "suspect", so the subject introduces it herself.  This is perhaps why she felt the need to qualify it with "to the best of my knowledge" which reduces commitment.

I believe that the Focus should remain on finding Ayla.

Note the pronoun "I" enters the statement here.

Note that "Focus" is  capitalized as in a proper name.  This makes the topic of the focus of the investigation very sensitive (important) to the subject.  Note that police believe the key to finding Ayla is in the missing information from her son, his girlfriend, and his sister.

What does she not say?

The focus of finding Ayla is upon Justin DiPietro, his girlfriend, Courtney Roberts, and his sister, Elisha DiPietro, in both law enforcement and media.  This is also the public perception.  This statement indicates that the subject does not want the focus to be on her son and family.

Note that she says "I believe" which is a weak assertion, rather than saying, "The focus should be on..."This shows that the subject allows for others to believe the focus should be on her family.

Regarding finding the child, the child is called "Ayla" in context.

Once Ayla is found then and only then will I think about justice. Justice is served only when all facts and evidence are known and presented in a court of law.

This is unexpected.

Family members care about justice regardless of a court of law as they are emotionally committed to the child's plight, rather than defending the criminal justice system.  They are judicially innocent, but this does not mean they did not "do it."

A guilty party will often say "I am innocent" instead of "I didn't do it" before adjudication of a case.

The subject does not want "justice" to begin until "Ayla" is found.  Does the subject have confidence that Ayla will not be found?

For my family – the last thing left in Pandora ’s Box is hope.

This is a very unusual phrase and is most unexpected.  "Pandora's Box" is often referred to in the negative, as unexpected consequences and actions.  It is not used in a positive manner often.

It should be carefully considered if Ayla was put into a box of sorts before being disposed of. The negative connotation regarding a missing child in which police believe the family knows precisely what happened is not lost here.

We choose to hold on to hope that Ayla will be found and brought home.

Note the change of pronoun from "I believe" to now, "we choose" (in the present tense).  Please note that this is a very weak assertion of hope.  The subject only "chooses" to "hold" on to hope.  One should wonder if the subject knows that Ayla will not be "found" nor "brought home."  Note that not only "found" but also "brought home"; what causes the subject to add "and brought home" here? If Ayla were to be found, would she not be brought home?

This is another indication that the subject may know that Ayla is deceased.

The reader should now be on alert for a false pretense of "hope"

If 3 adult women were held captive for over a decade and finally rescued then please believe there is hope Ayla will be found alive.

Note the gulf of difference between the two cases, indicating a desperate attempt to bridge the gap between them shows the weakness of the assertion to "choose" to "hold" (rather than have) hope.

Note, "please believe" is a weak assertion as well.  This recognizes not only that one would "believe" otherwise, but is in need of pleading ("please") to believe.  This is not an assertion of hope, but of seeking to persuade one to believe.

The reader should question if the subject knows that there is no hope existing.  The expected from innocent family is a wearing down of hope, even over lengthy periods of time, as natural denial keeps hope going, even against reality or statements from police.  This is an appeal to the public.

Consequence:

What will come of the public not having hope that Ayla is alive?  This leads to the natural question:

Why does the subject want people to believe that Ayla is alive?

We seek an answer within the statement, itself.

So we ask and plead that the public continues to look for Ayla

Note that the public is to look for Ayla.
Note that police are looking for Ayla, and are looking at her son, her daughter, and her son's girlfriend, for the answer of where Ayla is.

Her eyes are beautiful and distinctive which will be a good focal point in looking for her

Note the word "will" in the sentence.  Note that the subject presupposes that people are not looking for her, but "will", in the future, look, using her eyes as "focal point."
Note that the proper name "Ayla" is dropped and the pronoun "her" is now used. This is in the context of looking for Ayla.

We continue to pray that a Good Samaritan will come forward with the information LE needs to bring Ayla home.

Note that it is a "Good Samaritan" that needs to come forward rather than the information coming from the three.  We continue to wait to see if the subject will tell us:
My family did not cause Ayla's disappearance and
My family told the truth to police.

Thus far, the subject has not said so.

Ayla, my granddaughter is out there alive so please do not give up looking for her. If you know anything please come forward.
Phoebe DiPietro

Note the assertion that does not say "Ayla is alive" but that "Ayla is out there" and "alive", using additional words between the child and being alive, but it is pressing that we now see that "Ayla" has changed.

A change in language indicates a change in reality.

The subject uses the name "Ayla" 9 times, but here, she is "Ayla, my granddaughter"; which is a full social introduction.  The complete social introduction is expected in the beginning of a statement, and once she is introduced, the shortened "Ayla" is expected to be used.

This is the end of the statement and the only time the full social introduction is used.  What has caused the subject to need to emphasize that Ayla is her granddaughter, in the complete social introduction?

Please note the inclusion of the word "alive."

Regarding holding "hope", she is "Ayla."
Regarding searching for her, she is "Ayla"

There is only the relationship with the name, at the end of the statement, almost as an afterthought

Regarding the assertion that Ayla is alive, we now find the need for emphasis, which, the need itself, indicates weakness.

The reader should question if the subject knows that Ayla will not be found alive.

The subject does not tell us that the three told the truth.  If she is unwilling or unable to say that the three told the truth, we are not permitted to say it for her.

The subject does not tell us that her family was not involved in the disappearance of Ayla.  If the subject is unwilling or unable to do so, we are not permitted to say it for her.

Peter, I'm going to read through this analysis later when I have more time. I have read Phoebe's statement on the other thread, and wanted to draw people's attention to Phoebe's inclusion of Pandora's Box in her statement. Pandora's Box is not normally associated with "hope" but rather with the evils that 1st came out of the box. I also just read the wikipedia article onPandora's Box and, disturbingly it says that the box was actually a jar which could be as big as a small person. Depending on how familiar Phoebe is with this story from mythology, she may be unconsciously revealing important information about what was done to Ayla.

Peter, I just skimmed down through your analysis and see you have said much the same as I did about Pandora's Box. Well, I did learn SA from you. I will read through the rest when I have time.

My take on the Pandoras Box remark is that hope is all that is left...it is the only thing keeping a lid on what happened but as soon as Ayla is found, it's game over for them, everything will be exposed and known. All the evil will be out, so to speak.

"Once Ayla is found then and only then will I think about justice. Justice is served only when all facts and evidence are known and presented in a court of law."

Very odd. Who wouldn't want justice for their "missing" grand/daughter? Plus this statement is kind of a contradiction to her claims of Ayla being alive.

Also, I might be reading too much into some things, but she keeps saying "out there alive", and different variations of that. After reading about the heartbreaking evidence that Trista shared, I wonder if poor Ayla was still alive when she was removed from the house. :(

Phoebe speaks of the media and news distorting the truth. She and her family distort the truth. She should seek the truth from those 3, if she doesn't already know it.

"To the best of my knowledge, LE has not confirmed her allegations..."

What is she calling allegations? Trista is largely reporting her visual observations of a slide show shown to her by police. Phoebe is not saying these observations are incorrect. Trista is also reporting her recollection of what police told her about the evidence. Phoebe is not saying Trista's recollection is incorrect. Note that Phoebe herself saw this slideshow and she is not denying its contents.

"Justice is served only when all facts and evidence are known and presented in a court of law." This demand for absolute and perfect proof is impossible to meet in any case. She does not want justice ever because justice would place two of her family members in jail for a long time.

"For my family- the last thing left in Pandora's Box is hope." What is Pandora's Box? It is a box full of crime, hate, disease, pestilence, envy, etc. Curiosity led to Pandora's unleashing these horrors on the world. At the end of the story, Hope escapes from the box. So is she saying her family unleashed crime, hate, etc. on the public out of curiosity and now has hope the impossible is going to happen? Talk about a misplaced metaphor. Is she tacitly acknowledging her family, holders of the box, are responsible for crimes against Ayla?

"Her eyes are beautiful and distinctive which will be a good focal point in looking for her." Did something happen to Ayla's eyes? Is she telling us the blood came from the head/face?

Peter, you stated that"This is an open statement to Media and to the Public"

Why can she not bring herself to name "3 adults".If i was not familiar with this case,as many people out there will not be.Who then are the "3 adults"She is talking about?..Not even a reference to what gender they maybe?..

Also, on the Pandora's Box statement:

"For my family – the last thing left in Pandora ’s Box is hope."

Their Pandora's Box has been opened and emptied, which as everyone here has mentioned, Pandora's Box is not usually associated with "good". So, what I'm getting from that statement is, all that evil, associated with Ayla's disappearance has been emptied (well, not all of it, I'm sure there's still plenty in there), and all THEY have left now is hope. Well, hope in regards to all that evil, doesn't sit well with me. Hope of what? Not getting caught, not getting charged, Ayla not being found (as we know they're not helping to actually find her)?

I don't know if that made sense, it's hard to describe.

Justin and Courtney should be charged with something. Anything. Neglect, maybe? They slept peacefully, while Ayla bled and possibly vomited her own blood? No way! Charge them, and let them turn on each other! If not murder, because they want a gift wrapped case, then it's got to start somwhere.

I'm really upset, having just read the evidence that Trista released. :(

Peter I'm sure you're aware that investigators have ways of gaining information from children who aren't old enough to put their thoughts in words. Do you think LE has said the three "adults" in the house aren't telling all they know but that the non adults have? Why would they add the word "adults"?

Maggie said...

Phoebe's description of Ayla's eyes as a "focal point" is deeply concerning as normally this term is used to describe something being narrowed in on or aimed at by a weapon.
I have always thought Phoebe was very involved in committing a crime against Ayla.
I believe Ayla was a "focal point" of Phoebe's jealousy.

I also find her use of "Good Samaritan to be odd. From the Biblical story, the good samaritan passes someone in need on a street. We usually associate good samaritan with someone helping a stranded motorist. Someone who actively helps someone on or on the side of a road. I wonder if Ayla's body was left close to the side of a road. Thus, she pictures someone finding her as a good samaritan on the roadway. Someone who will find/discover/"help" Ayla through happenstance as the good samaritan just happened to walk by the person he helped.

Something I noticed in one of the pictures of ayla was the walls. Its the picture used on the blog answers for ayla and the post was 'a case for ayla'. In this picture is ayla with a sleepy pouty look on her adorable little face and she holding a sippy cup. The photo credit is listed as pheobe dipetro. Go to that picture. Look at the walls behind ayla. To aylas right is the couch, and what appears to be a patch job of the sheetrock immediately above the couch where some kind of hole was repaired. On aylas left and behind her looks like an entire section of wall had been repaired with new sheetrock. Lets ask ourselves why were those repair jobs necessary.... this is just an opinion but hear me out... maybe the repairs were made because the walls were punched in the past.. someone (likely a man) at some point lost his temper and punched the wall in an attempt to intimidate or redirect anger. Just a thought.
One more sign that social services failed when letting the dipietros have physical custody.
My heart breaks for trista.

Something that struck me is that she refers to 3 adults, and later to 3 adult woman (The ones Castro held captive no doubt.) Does anyone else find that odd- the liars number 3 and including both references in her letter. It puzzles me.

*note* I said that the person who likely made holes in the dipietros house is a man because men generally have more upper body strength.

Thank You Peter!

This whole statement was sooo off from the expected that when I read it, I had a hard time absorbing and understanding what the hell I was looking at it, like a pile of spaghetti noodles where there should be straight lines...

Your analysis explains many things.

I am still wondering why she responded to questions from the media about the night Ayla "disappeared", and if there had been a party at her house with:

"There wasn't a party here. It was just a normal day," she said."It was a normal day".

She repeated the second sentence twice, and parties do not happen during the day, the NIGHT in question is not during the day.

From what I understand by Jeff Hanson's online statements concerning what Justin told the investigators about that day and night, he was alone with Ayla at his mother's house all day hanging out, and Christmas shopping.

He did not say if this was online shopping or if he left in the car with her, but he did not take her to her afternoon orthopedics appointment for a broken arm.
Why?

Phoebe was likely at work all day, then out for a date all night(which she initially lied about), but she has never said where she was, or if she stopped at home after work, on the way to her date.

Elisha may or may not have been home with her daughter, but former friends of the family have said that she took her daughter to Educare in Waterville, where she was also working, possibly completing ECE units for some sort of program.

She also has never said publicly where she was that day, when she got home, or any other details about that day or evening...she has never said publicly that she even saw Ayla.

Courtney has never said anything publicly, and from what I also read on United for Ayla, she refused to see the blood evidence as did the Tudela family. She has never said where she was that day, or when she got to the house, or what she saw or heard when she got there.

I am wondering by all this if she was not injured during the day, and removed either that day as well, or later that evening, under the cover of darkness...

I have been thinking since the beginning that he took her out in a container of some sort, to avoid biological materials getting on him and in his SUV, and this may be why they found no major bio evid. in his car which indicated he had her remains in there...

I also wonder what size Justin's bed is, as the blankets found in the river by the dam, which had to have had a link to this case(Ayla's DNA or blood), were said to have been twin or full size blankets...and Phoebe said right off in her first interview that things were missing and misplaced or moved when she got home that day....

I have to think logically by her language and behavior that she has known since the first that Ayla was not abducted, and that something terrible happened at her house, with her children being responsible. Who knows what she was told by Justin and Elisha(and Courtney), since lying is obviously considered a virtue in that family...

Phoebe and her sister Selena are very fond of using biblical quotes and referencing the bible...They seem very familiar with it...

I have always believed Phoebe disposed of Ayla. This statement supports this theory. Pandora's Box, Good Samaritan--I believe Ayla is close to a side of a road. When whoever disposed of her pulled over to the side of the road and got out, they would have appeared to be a troubled motorist (good samaritan reference). This road would be well-traveled for her to use this reference.

Maggie said...

Also, as disturbing as this is, I believe Phoebe saying that "Ayla's eyes are beautiful and distinctive which will be a good focal point in looking for her"--I believe it can relate to a weapon being used in Ayla's head area, but also I believe it may mean Ayla was placed face down when probably Phoebe disposed of her so that her face/eyes could not be seen. This statement Phoebe makes about Ayla's eyes is the verbal equivalent of her keeping her fingers crossed that Ayla will not be found, and, that if she is found, she will not be able to be identified.

Thank you Peter. I was shocked hearing the words – the last thing left in Pandora ’s Box is hope.

I to thought it unusual and unexpected and my first thought was horrible negatives things...

therefore my gut said horrible things happened are going to come out. none of it good by Ayla. And that is traumatic!

When Phoebe writes that Trista herself has not been cleared as a suspect, I see she's trying to gain leverage for Justin, but it is also to disparage Trista. Another indicator as to her discomfort with this release, and guilt. I hope this information causes someone to slip up or finally come forward.

Several things stand out to me, the first being that she made a statement at all. She does not directly address the blood evidence that Trista recently revealed. The allegation that she does directly address (that the 3 adults are withholding info) has been made 'over and over' according to her, so why issue a response to it now? She is trying to distract from Trista's damning revelations about what took place under her roof, at the hands of her own son.

Keeping in mind that we don't know for sure if Ayla was harmed/removed "that night". "That night", to most of us refers to the night Ayla "disappeared". Whether it was December 16th, or a previous day.

With Phoebe and/or any of the others, speaking of "that night/day", it makes me wonder which day they are actually speaking of. If Ayla disappeared on a previous day/night, they could technically be telling the truth on certain things, when they speak of "that night", in reference to December 16th.

Also, we know 3 is the liars number. Not that it's always a lie, but it's a red flag.

Maybe those 3 were there on December 16th. Maybe there was no party. Maybe it was a "normal" day.

Was there really 3 people there "that night" though?

"Blog world, the newspapers and even the evening news have a way of distorting the truth."

-Here she acknowledges that the information from 'blog world, newspapers and the evening news', IS the truth, but claims that it 'has a way' of being distorted. The evidence that Trista revealed in her BLOG points to a violent death, and suffering endured by Ayla. To call this information 'distorted truth' is not the same as saying it is untrue, or calling it an outright lie. This is very soft language considering the topic. If Pheobe COULD deny the info that Trista put forth, surely she WOULD, in the most emphatic way.

If Ayla is found and she is found in a box, I would not conclude that it had any connection to Phoebe's comment. Given her use of it, it seems clear to me that she is ignorant of its appropriate usage.

Per her using Ayla's name repeatedly: It really can go a couple of ways and work for or against your argument of Phoebe, which I am in overall agreement of. She is at least getting Ayala's name out there and yes, I understand that we are talking about combining factors and totality, still, that is a worthwhile point of note.

Pandora's Box - as with everyone else, this stood way out to me. However, her statements have always given the feel that Phoebe herself may not have first hand knowledge of what happened that day/evening, but did immediately come to the rescue of her children (by stating she was home when she was not) - But as the media started to chatter about all of details of poor Baby Ayla, Phoebe started to realize what her children had done. (hence the no proper social introduction indicating a poor relationship) For many Pandora's Box has the simple meaning that all hell has broken loose unexpectedly - and that is exactly what has happened to Phoebe.

The eyes being the focal point, I would be interested in knowing if people generally stated that Ayla had Justin's eyes. To me this sounds like a grandmother not wanting to accept reality and in this case, accept that her son could be responsible. Yet, she knows, and Ayla's eyes being so sweet and innocent stir in Phoebe a sense of hope and wishing that things were different, that the focal point in her life was different.

But what I find more striking than anything is the fact that she even made a statement to begin with. If she has an attorney (not a good sign) and the release of info had nothing to do with her, there was zero reason to make a statement. So, Trista's efforts are working, she is stirring the Dips. Let's hope that the pot gets more stirring...

Phoebe, who thinks that "waiting for word" about Ayla is enough effort for her to attempt, didn't even mention anything about Ayla's well being or Ayla's distress.

Lip service and waiting for a "Good Samaritan" to produce Ayla is all that Phoebe thinks is what matters most coupled with invalidation of Trista's information.

What a smug woman!

Anonymous said...

It is also interesting what Phoebe does NOT say. The blood evidence is linked to Justin's belongings and thus him; it relates to a time Ayla was in his care; yet Phoebe does not mention Justin's name. Only Ayla's and Trista's.

Even when she refers to the 3 adults there that night she does not name either of her two kids or their guest.

Reading her statement and her mention of Ayla's eyes it took me straight back to the mccanns and their using Maddies coloboma in her right eye ( it is a where the pupil sometimes leeches slughtly into the iris - in her case they trademarked it using a keyhole effect and went to great pains to emphasise thhis eye defect event when advised not to by the PJ. Gerry claimed he was worried the 'abductor'might do something to her eye, but it was a good marketing ploy) they even tried to get google to use it on their home page (google refused) years down the line they now describe what they claimed was an obvious defect was now infact barely noticeable, a mere fleck only visible close up, thus they lied about it previously or they are lying now.

I see the similarities in the focus on the missing child's eyes and even in the please for help.

I wonder if phoebe is familiar with the mccann case especially since oprah interviewed them. is she now looking at similar 'abduction ' cases and using ideas from them to avoid justice and to point the finger of guilt away from the family?

if it works for another guilty family then it will in theory work for them.

I would love to have every guilty parent of a missing child all in a single room and then watch and listen as they try and work out what their connections to each other are and if they buy the bull the others spout or point an accusing finger whilst claiming innocence themselves :)

Look what she appears to be saying A "Good Samaritan" will find the "hope in Pandora's Box".

My opinion: Based on Phoebe's statement cops should publically ask if anyone in the state of Maine saw someone on the side of the road who appeared to be having car trouble at the time of Ayla's disappearance.
Unfortunately, who would remember if they did see such a thing at this point?

Jen said...

"Let me ask you this, if they so strongly believe that, why are they not asking the questions? Why are they not scheduling meetings with my family or with my attorney?"

-Pheobe asks this as a rhetorical question and then she even provides the answer. The reason they are not asking them questions, and not scheduling meetings with them or their attorney....is because, THEY HAVE AN ATTORNEY! They hired an attorney which ended the flow of information from them to investigators, yet Pheobe tries to manipulate this fact in their favor to make it seem like no questions exist.

"Once Ayla is found then and only then will I think about justice. Justice is served only when all facts and evidence are known and presented in a court of law."

-She informs us WHEN she will 'think' about justice. Only after Ayla is found. This is likely true, as once Ayla is found she and members of her family will be facing 'justice'. As long as Ayla doesn't turn up, she can stay focused on the charade of 'finding' her.

The fact that she is not focused on justice reveals a lot, as any parent or GP of a 'kidnapped' child would be hell bent on justice for the horrible unimaginable things that are likely being done to them. In this case, IF a kidnapper actually existed, Pheobe would have even more of a reason to want the person responsible to face justice, since it would clear her son and the rest of her family. The fact that she does not even want to THINK about justice reveals that justice means bad things for her, and her family.

She also puts a condition on justice, saying it can ONLY be served when ALL the facts and evidence are known and presented in a court of law. Even in cases where a confession is obtained, it is unlikely that ALL of the details will ever be known.

Anonymous said...

Anon, that is very true about her not mentioning names. My opinion is that Justin and HERSELF were the only ones involved.

~mj said...

Trigger you said it perfectly, she is smug. That was the word I was looking for. In addition to what I wrote earlier, I also think the whole part about justice coming ONLY after Baby Ayla is found speaks to her smugness.

What person in their right mind doesn't want justice for Baby Ayla? Everyone does right? OK, so how does one go about achieving justice for Baby Ayla?

Finding her would be one way, sure. But other ways to get justice are for information to come in that would LEAD to finding her. This information being given would facilitate justice being served. So to exclude justice only until she is found is a way to attempt to put a lid on her very own Pandora's Box. Keep it hidden, keep it secret.

If she is trying to protect her son, she made a drastic mistake in offering this statement. Way to go, Trista!

Obviously the Dieptro's still feel like they can continue witholding information and lying to the media bc they didn't get help writing Pheobe's stupid letter. It seems that Phoebe reads in here and learned to use the name "Ayla" instead of "her."

Did you notice Pheobe mentions Ayla's eyes again in this letter? She did that once before when she lied on camera to the media.

The sentence that infuriated me was "Justice is served only when all facts and evidence are known and presented in a court of law. " Phoebe knows there is no possible way for every spec of information to be revealed so she will go to her grave denying Ayla's murder in her own home. I hate her... evil, evil, evil.

For those of you that have not read the announcement straight from Ayla's blog. It is well done, with photos (not MSP ones, but ones to give you an idea of what is being stated) and it has links to anything that sounds like it could be a "claim" to the articles in various news reports. Beautifully done and when looked at in that light, irrefutable. Shame on Phoebe for trying to cast doubt on what evidence was told to Trista.

"To the best of my knowledge LE has not confirmed her allegations nor stated that she has been cleared as a suspect herself."--Phoebe DiPietro

Phoebe's use of "herself" at the end of the sentence is unnecessary. Especially since she has already verbally established she is "going on the offensive" against Trista with other verbal cues. The sentence should have flowed out naturally as "To the best of my knowledge LE has not confirmed her allegations nor stated that she has been cleared as a suspect."

This extra little addition of "herself" is interesting because it emphasizes Trista's gender, something I doubt she would have felt the need to have done if the true killer was male. However, if the true killer is female, well, then, it makes sense that she added this "herself" on to the end of the sentence.

"For my family – the last thing left in Pandora ’s Box is hope. We choose to hold on to hope that Ayla will be found and brought home."

-Many good points have been made about the significance of the Pandora's Box analogy, so I will just add a few thoughts about the rest of the sentence.

If you remove 'Pandora's Box', then the sentence reads, 'For my family-the last thing left is hope.

-The 'last thing' they have left (for Alya) is hope.

She then says 'we choose to hold onto hope that Ayla will be found and brought home'. It would be shorter and more direct to simply say, 'We hope'...but she adds 4 words between 'we' and 'hope'. She also reveals that having hope is a choice they are making. This implys that the idea of Alya coming home is unlikely and that they must make a conscious choice to 'hold onto' this notion (likely because they know this is not an option).

Also when she says 'hope that Ayla will be found and brought home', she does not say ALIVE. To me, this type of reference to Ayla's return is not expected when speaking about a living person. (A body is 'found', while you 'rescue' a hostage/kidnap victim). It sounds as if Pheobe is speaking about the recovery of remains.

S + K Mum said...

Has Pheobe or any of them ever offered an explanation about the blood all over the house belonging to Ayla? A trip or fall, a nosebleed....?

"For my family – the last thing left in Pandora ’s Box is hope."--Phoebe DiPietro

This sentence is very awkward. The word "family" should be followed by a comma, but it is instead followed by a hyphen, the only time in this piece of writing she uses a hyphen. Phoebe uses this hyphen to distance herself from this lie about the last thing left in Pandora's box is hope. It truly is an unnatural use of a hyphen and she does not appear to use hyphens frequently.
She uses this hyphen in the style of one addressing a letter. Where the greeting of the letter is "separated" or "distanced" from the body of the letter.

I think she referenced her 'why haven't they tried to schedule with her attorney', because she want's to make it seem to the public like LE has no questions for them, (or like LE has dropped the ball), when in reality she knows any request would go nowhere. Her attorney isn't going to schedule a meeting for LE to interview his clients. That is his whole job at this point, (before charges are filed) to try to keep them quiet and stand between his clients and investigators questions.

Relatives of 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley told investigators that they noticed a burn mark that looked like it may have come from an iron or a stove and her teeth appeared to be knocked out.

Those and other details are revealed in the 1,400-plus-pages report Glendale Police released on Monday into the child's disappearance a year ago.

Jhessye's mother, Jerice Hunter, has been charged with the child's murder. Hunter, who had served time in a California prison for abusing her older children, reported her daughter missing Oct. 11, 2011. The girl's disappearance triggered a massive police effort to locate the girl but her body was never found.

Police looked for evidence of blood and other bodily fluids in the girl's apartment and found traces of spatter on walls and hand prints, but police stopped short of saying the remnants were from blood.

Investigators interviewed Hunter's cousins Tycora Cole, Mahogany Hightower and Victor Rice in the days after Jhessye was reported missing. All three worried for Jhessye's safety before she disappeared and Hightower had called Child Protective Services.

Cole and Rice broke down into tears during their interviews as they described one of the last times they saw their "princess" at a barbeque in April 2011, the report says.

Cole and Rice noticed that Jhessye had a burn mark, which Cole said looked like it may have come from an iron or a stove, and some of her teeth appeared to be knocked out. Cole told investigators the normally direct Jhessye became uncomfortable and hesitant when asked what happened to her teeth, according to the report.

Another relative, Hunter's cousin Lisa Vance, said the woman was taking pills and "would sleep all day and ramble all night long" when she came to live with her after serving her prison sentence.

Vance also reported one of the children told her about instances of abuse in the home once Jhessye returned under her mother's care.

The child told her "that she knows for a fact that Jerice hadn't been treating Jhessye right," the report says. The child told the woman that Jhessye "had bruises all over" and that Hunter made Jhessye stay in a room for four weeks and only allowed her to come out if she needed to use the bathroom. The child also said Hunter fed Jhessye different food from the rest of other children, according to the police report.

Police learned from the grandmother of a 9-year-old girl who played at the Hunter residence that when she visited Hunter's house before Jhessye's disappearance, she came across the tot laying in a closet.

Tania Cadogan said...

She described the girl as "bruised," according to police documents.

Upon serving a second search warrant at Hunter's apartment on the Nov. 21, forensic investigators said they searched for traces of blood evidence, vomit, feces and urine in Hunter's bedroom closet, according to the report.

Investigators discovered remnants of child- and adult-size hand prints as well as a spatter pattern on every wall with the exception of the wall behind the bedroom door, according to the report.

Glendale Police Department spokesman Brent Coombs would not confirm or deny that the substance that left those patterns was blood.

The documents show that at one point when investigators were combing through tons of garbage at the Butterfield Station Landfill in Mobile, they came across a black bag with what appeared to be children's clothing.

Another cloth backpack held several items with purple clothing, which happened to be Jhessye's favorite color.

Glendale Police sent the items to be tested; officials said Tuesday that none of the items are linked to the missing girl.

Hunter was arrested Sept. 6 at a Mesa apartment after a Maricopa County grand jury handed up an indictment on charges of first-degree murder and child abuse.

Republic reporter Jamie Warren contributed to this article.

PHOENIX - A judge has scheduled an Aug. 4, 2014 trial for an Arizona woman charged with murder in the disappearance of her 5-year-old daughter.

Judge Rosa Mroz of Maricopa County Superior Court set the trial date Monday during a pretrial conference for Jerice Hunter.

Her next court date is set for Dec. 2.

Her lawyers have spent months reviewing evidence handed over by prosecutors.

Glendale police claim Jhessye Shockley was killed and her body put in a Tempe trash bin before Hunter reported her daughter missing on Oct. 11, 2011.

The 39-year-old Hunter was arrested last September. She maintains she is innocent and has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and child abuse.

A 96-day search at a Phoenix-area landfill in 2012 without finding the girl's remains.

Droplets of Ayla’s blood were found on the pompoms of her pink princess slippers.

Ayla’s blood was found smeared on her baby doll’s face and arms in the bedroom she shared with Elisha DiPietro’s daughter (upstairs). It appeared that Ayla tried to wipe blood from her mouth with her doll.
Drops of Ayla’s blood were found on a fan cord in Justin’s basement bedroom.
Ayla’s blood splatter was found on a plastic blue tote in the basement and a sheet that was found inside had Ayla’s blood stains on it. MSP said that it had been used to cleanup Ayla’s blood.
Several drops of Ayla’s blood were found on the tongue and inside Justin’s sneakers in the basement beside his bed.
A “fist size stain” of Ayla’s blood was found on Justin’s mattress and sheets. This sample contained saliva, possibly vomit, and “a toy hair like” pink fiber which, at the time, MSP had not identified.
Several splatters of Ayla’s blood were found on sections of tbloodstain-convergehe cement floor and wall beside Justin’s bed. These blood splatters were consistent with Ayla’s standing height, and were up to a dime in size. MSP’s blood analysts determined that the blood splatte
rs were created by intense projectile vomiting and/or blunt force trauma.
Several splatters of Ayla’s blood were found on a wood pallet leaning against a wall in the basement.]

so guide your searches it that direction, head to the hospital from the home, at the last street to chicken out and turn away from the hospital, take that road, look for a place to dump a childs body on that street.

"We continue to pray that a Good Samaritan will come forward with the information LE needs to bring Ayla home. Ayla, my granddaughter is out there alive so please do not give up looking for her."

This is Pheobe's statement, yet she constantly asserts things for more than just herself. Here she states what 'they' pray for, saying "we continue to pray for a Good Samaritan to come foward with the information LE needs to bring Ayla home". Of course, we all know that LE has said that the Dipeitro's have the information needed.

A 'good Samaritan' is a nameless, faceless entity. Why doesn't she ask 'the kidnapper' to return Ayla? Exactly how would this 'good Samaritan' come to have this info she claims to continuously pray for them to come foward with? If this ambiguous person has known this info all along, then they would be far from a 'good Samaritan' for allowing so many to suffer from their silence. This person does not exist, and Pheobe reveals through her words that she knows this, as she clearly has not spent any time considering any of these aspects of the idea she posed (that a good Samaritan is the person needed to solve the mystery).

"Ayla, my granddaughter is out there alive so please do not give up looking for her."

Here she could say, 'Ayla is alive', which would be a strong declaration of her belief that Alya is not dead. Instead she adds 5 words 'my granddaughter is out there' between he words 'Ayla' and 'alive'. After declaring that 'her granddaughter' is alive, I would expect her to then say..'and she needs to be rescued', or 'please help us get her back'. But instead she closes her statement saying, 'SO please don't give up looking for her', once again revealing her desire to keep the 'focus' on the unsuccessful search, and away from the justice Trista seeks.

Please humor me for a second: I just googled and there is a gift shop called "Pandora's Box" on Presque Isle in Maine.
When I had first looked at Phoebe's sentence "For my family--the last thing left in Pandora's Box is hope."
what I noticed is this, there is a hyphen where a comma should be which changes the MEANING of the sentence. The way Phoebe writes the sentence, it is as if, literally she is "gifting" them with hope.
"For my family--"
This is the way letters or cards on gifts or gift tags are addressed."
Then I see there is a Pandora's Box gift shop in Maine. Is there any chance Ayla has been left near this gift shop or on this island? I don't know the layout if Maine.

"Dear Members of the Media and
Public -- "
Beginning of Phoebe's 1st paragraph.
It contains a "greeting" and a hyphen.

"For my family-"
Beginning of Phoebe's 2nd paragraph.

Phoebe begins her 2nd paragraph as one would address a present or gift.
Interestingly she immediately mentions a famous gift, that of Pandora's Box given I believe to Persephone the 1st woman ever created. Even before I saw that there is an actual "Pandora's Box" in Maine that is a gift shop, I noted to myself that there is something here in her use of this phrase
"For my family-"as one would address a gift.
In my opinion, the use of hyphens by individual people are very instilled in them. I tend to frequently use them as a way of indicating I am including more information about what I just said--a way to elongate the sentence. I use hyphens for THAT purpose only. Except I also use them when writing a note, or a card, or a gift.
Her use of this hyphen here betrays something, and it betrays some kind of information about her writing something on a gift, present, or card.
I wonder if she has ever been to the gift store "Pandora's Box". I wonder what she was thinking of when she wrote "For my family-". Wasn't it around Christmas time when Ayla disappeared. She is thinking of something when she writes this, she is thinking of addressing a gift, present or card, and whatever she is thinking of pertains to this case.

"To the best of my knowledge LE has not confirmed her allegations nor stated that she has been cleared as a suspect herself."

Adding to Maggie's thoughts, regarding the addition of the word, "herself". This is an almost childish/immature way of trying to pass the blame on to someone else.

Lets pretend someone stole a stick of gum. The suspects are me, and Joe Schmo. If I stole the gum, SA comes into play. My mind doesn't want to lie, so instead of denying the allegation, I'll try to pass the blame to Joe. I won't deny that I stole the gum, but I'll point out that Joe hasn't been cleared. Why hasn't he been cleared? He must be guilty. I think adding the him/herself, is kind of like trying to make the blame more personal on the actual innocent person, it puts more focus on the other person. "He hasn't been cleared" vs "He hasn't been cleared himself". Plus it's an admission that I also haven't been cleared. (I haven't been cleared but) he hasn't been cleared himself. It's used instead of using the word "either".

Don't focus on me, focus on him.

It's unnecessary, yet purposely added for a reason.

I could be way off, that's just what I'm getting from that part of her statement.

Reading what MSP told Trista as released by her on her Ayla fb page, it seems Ayla died a violent death of being punched and battered to death "fist sized stain" along with vomit and blood splatter). The report she gives, if accurate, makes it clear Ayla suffered no accident but she did indeed suffer and anyone in earshot would have heard her screams.

Did Justin drive Ayla to where Pheobe was that night? Pheobe tried to make out she was at home when she was not....why was she distancing herself from her friends house? Does anyone know if that place was investigated by LE?

Is it poss that Ayla was injured before she was put in her car seat and taken home in Justin's car - what I mean is Justin maybe lashed out at her then when he got home he started again? Had they been anywhere that day?

Also, the Pandora's Box and floating references made by them sends shivers down my spine....I imagine she is in a box inside a wall somewhere........presumably the wall cavities in Justin's home were all checked? Is that why they are patched up? And maybe the house belonging to Pheobe's friend?

Maggie said...

S&K--This is one of the things about the case that don't make sense. Phoebe's wherabouts have never been made public.
This is what we know: she was on a date. With who? Where? Stayed all night where? What route followed? IS THIS INFO NOT IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO LE?
If LE has not searched near wherever Phoebe was that night, they are failing Trista miserably. Noone knows exactly which day/night Ayla "vanished", so Phoebe could have taken her with her. I have followed this case closely, as I know everyone here has, and it is my belief Phoebe disposed of Ayla and may have even had a hand in her death.

Maggie said...

Also, I would encourage people to analyze every word Phoebe says. I believe she is incredibly devious. Just think: She is an older version of Justin! Her religios imagery and "love of the Bible"--this is a true wolf in sheep's clothing. This is a calculating sociopath in my opinion. As such, her words need to be looked at very carefully in my opinion. I will try to rewatch her original video later again, see if I can find anything.

S + K Mum said...

Thanks Maggie, I couldn't remember reading where Pheobe was/ if it was searched, so that will be why!
I am gobsmacked actually, LE must have checked all this out surely, as soon as she got an attorney they would be right on her, no? (If not before, as soon as she lied about being at the home). Doesn't make any sense at all, you are right!

S + K Mum said...

Pheobe is def odd. I don't think she is very clever.....lucky yes, but not clever. Which is what makes this so unbelievable! They are just a bunch of nobodys really, yet they are all still free. ??

Maggie said...

S&K--It blows my mind! I don't get how they're walking free! I bet they never have tracked Phoebe's whereabouts that night, we have heard nothing about it. You can compare it to Terri Horman where you know every move she says she made. Phoebe, however, no info, just "I was on a date"! And who was she with? Where was she? Noone knows any of this!

For all the bashing people did of Trista for her drinking problem, etc., it seems she is the one who will end up getting the case prosecuted rather than the DA. She's got guts! She should probably go into law. It looks like her websites contain a lot more thoughtfulness than the Maine police have given the case.

I just went and watched the old video interview with Phoebe. I know we've all watched it so many times but rewatching it is good because the more Phoebe talks maybe things can be put into a different context.
Here are 3 things from the interview that jumped out at me:

1)Phoebe saying she "didnt want my son to go get ANY OF his friends and go kicking in doors" (looking for Ayla)

This sentence would have flowed out naturally as I "didn't want my son to go get his friends and go kicking in doors". When Phoebe says "ANY OF his friends" she is thinking of someone specific.
DOORS is important here also. Why is this the imagery the 1st that comes to mind? KICKING IN DOORS

2) "Oddities" around the house. This is a very uncommonly used word. I myself have never used this word in my entire life.
Phoebe may be simply selecting the word for it's vagueness, but since it is such an uncommonly used word, it's worth looking at. The 1st thing I think of when I think of the word "oddities" is of a consignment store which sells used things which are often times "odd" and random.

3) The sparkling red dress and books Phoebe had bought for Ayla for Christmas (unwrapped): These could be important in some way.

Sus said...

It's a very simple statement, but a telling one..."Why isn't law enforcement asking THE questions."

Phoebe knows what questions should be asked to uncover the truth.

That is a pathological liar's ploy...don't give up the information, wait for the other guy to find it out, all the time feeling superior because they haven't nailed it exactly.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone said or knows who paid his life insurance premium on Ayla? Wasn't he un-employed at the time he purchased it? Then wouldn't it make sense he "borrowed" money from someone to get the pay-out? I wonder if he was going to split it with someone. I have my ideas of whom it was.

I wonder if whomever it was is now regretting loaning him the money.

John Mc Gowan said...

"I believe that the FOCUS should remain on finding Ayla"

Words Of this ilk are always a red flag for me in missing person cases..How many times do we hear this said when a family member or close friend of a family are under suspicion..Or anyone for that matter.

Mark Redwine.
Ian Huntley.
Etc.

It is usually accompanied with the words.

"We ask everyone to leave us alone and let the police do their work"

BINGO!!!!!

Sus said...

I mangled that quote! Sorry.
"Why are they not asking the questions?"
In the negative and puts responsibility on LE to find the right questions before Phoebe answers.

Maggie said...

The more I think about it, Phoebe's statement sbout KICKING IN DOORS--I wonder if Ayla was brought to a 2nd location after she was injured and taken out of the Violette Ave home--the 2nd location being another home or building.
I am picking up from her language--roadway, door, box, good samaritan (maybe that night when Ayla was being moved and disposed of there was a "good samaritan" who offered to help them ie. someone pulls off the road and asks Phoebe "do you need help? is your car broken down?" OR perhaps Phoebe asked a "good samaritan" for help in some way or for directions; gifts, presents is another theme in both of Phoebe's samples; also the idea of locks--the doors Justin kicks in would be locked, Pandora's Box was initially locked (had to stay shut bc of what was inside it), Phoebe in one statement says she feels "violated" someone came/"broke into her home.
Door, locked doors, locked box, locked home, roadway, good samaritan, gifts, gifts in a box, unwrapped gifts

Phoebe has a reputation for dating many different married men over the years.

I met her and the kids about 2o years ago. She lived near a home where my kids were babysat. People in the neighborhood frequently commented on Phoebe's neglect of Lance, Justin and Elisha. They ran around the neighborhood unsupervised while she watched TV (soap-operas)all day. She didn't check on them. Neighbors with kids the same age would watch them and feed them, as needed. The 3 dads of the kids where not in the picture, per her insistence. She struck me as quite the "man-hater".

She milked every nickle of welfare available until forced to work or go to school. She went to school, got an accounting degree, then a good state job.

The eyes: I was astonished by how much Ayla looked like Justin when he was little, particularly her eyes and blond hair.

"Trista can say and do what she wants," Phoebe DiPietro wrote in a statement provided to CNN.

Interesting that she uses believable and not truth or facts. I can believe in Santa, that doesn't make him real.

I think you're wrong that Phoebe is not intelligent, and I believe this is part of why the case isn't getting solved. People are not bothering to think that her plan could have been quite devious. These people are confident Ayla will not be found. I'm looking at her every word and giving her credit--she knows these stories, these words come from somewhere.
This crime was calculated and premeditated. Phoebe and Justin, as Peter put it well "telegraphed" these plans to harm Ayla.
You're looking at a fairly intelligent sociopath when you look at Phoebe, she knows a lot more than she lets on.

Once Ayla is found then and only then will I think about justice. Justice is served only when all facts and evidence are known and presented in a court of law.

She knows they will not proceed without a body and she knows body will not be found. So she is tying justice to the body and can avoid thinking about it while the body is missing.

I'm going to repeat my post from last night and suggest that posters read what Trista has released on Ayla's FB page, the information she (Trista) says was told to her by Maine State Police (MSP) as it makes it pretty clear what happened, even to those who haven't been reading this SA blog for quite some time and/or do not have other training:

"

Reading what MSP told Trista as released by her on her Ayla fb page, it seems Ayla died a violent death of being punched and battered to death "fist sized stain" along with vomit and blood splatter). This would be consistent with Ayla's previous injuries and Justin's displays of temper. The report she gives, if accurate, makes it clear Ayla suffered no accident but she did indeed suffer and anyone in earshot would have heard her screams.
Wow, what a man Justin keeps proving himself to be.

Phoebe's language does not indicate intelligence; the crime scene, as described by MSP, does not denote premeditation, even the knowledge of the life insurance policy doesn't negate this, nothing points toward Phoebe being a brain trust or the clean up and resulting attempted cover-up of this being any sort of 'star-studded brilliance act', do not confuse conceit with intelligence. This family is full of conceit and contempt, particularly for authority but that is not the same as being intelligent.

To respond to you:

1) Her language does indicate intelligence. Her language indicates a low level of education. There is a big difference between the two. Her language also indicates that she is a reader and she has revealed she is quite familiar with the Bible.

2) I am not convinced that all of the evidence being presented by Maine police is even tied together. Some is probably from crime scene, others from other abuse related injuries and possibly from sickness (vomit).

3) This crime was absolutely premeditated. There is no stronger evidence than BOTH Phoebe and Justin "telegraphing" that Ayla would soon be "kidnapped". Do you recall Phoebe had told Trista that Phoebe's house was being "watched" but she had a gun.?
The insurance plan--this is a strong indicator of premeditation. THERE COULD BE NO STRONGER INDICATOR OF PREMEDITATION THAN TWO INDIVIDUALS TELEGRAPHING THE CRIME. In my opinion, this telegraphing and premeditation also indicates a sadistic element to the crime. This is an indicator at least one of them is a sadist.

4) Yes both are conceited and full of contempt--I agree with you there.

I just think keep thinking Phoebe is stupid, just a bumbling grandma who don't-know-nuthin' and the crime will not get solved.

I saw three videos of the confrontation that Trista made on behalf of her missing daughter Ayla.

Phoebe just parroted Trista's question about where is Ayla. Phoebe is an asshole. No wonder her son is so messed up and cowardly.

Justin wanted to run and hide and he did just that in front of the media with cameras recording it.

None of the Dip's seemed concerned for Ayla's status, just wanted to hide and make Trista go away and stop asking about Ayla.

I am standing and applauding for Trista. She is putting pressure on the Dips because they killed her daughter and then gave her the silent treatment.

Who runs away like that? after attacking the mother of a missing child?

Phoebe was cold as ice when Trista asked about Ayla. She took off to avoid the media. She had a perfect opportunity to make a plea for Ayla but she ran to her vehicle.

I am baffled as to why the Prosecutors would drop ANY charge against JDip! Why wouldn't they throw the book a him and charge him with everything they possibly could...even if only to get a long probation sentence so that he is monitored for the next few years?

I am starting to wonder what kind of corruption is going on among LE, or the prosecutors that is allowing for JDip's protection. Maybe someone influencial is manipulating the situation? This just doesn't make sense, with all the evidence Trista revealed, they should have already convened a grand jury and pursued charges against JDip, and the other people in the house. But I cant believe they DROPPED charges today...they should have pushed for the harshest punishment. The assault was witnessed by a police officer and JDip has showed no remorse (and only disrespect and contempt for the legal system). smh

Your point is an excellent one. Why no probation? "Anger management"? Batterer's Group? Cops supposedly want him for murder and he participated in 2 assaults but they DON'T WANT HIM UNDER THE SCRUTINY OF THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM! DON'T WANT HIM CLOSELY MONITORED! DON'T WANT HIM FORCED TO TALK IN A BATTERER'S CLASS!
It looks someone DOESN'T want this crime solved and doesn't want to upset certain parties.

To Anon @ September 25, 2013 at 4:04 PM,

Read the accounts being put out. If they are true, it seems the vomit and blood were co-mingled, read and re-read "fist sized stain" and consider Justin's pathology. Then, consider the fact she may have been sick, however it's far more logical that Ayla was beaten to death and violent vomiting and bleeding were parts of her death that day/night. That doesn't mean there wasn't blood from earlier times of accidents/abuse, but let's look at what we know about child abuse, children like Ayla, their outcomes, and the totality of the evidence being given to us now. Furthermore, it is not out of the realm of possibility for investigators to have a good idea what caused the type of vomit they found, depending on what it's mixed with and how. To read the report as supposedly given to Trista by MSP and assume the vomiting is completely unrelated to Ayla's injuries that lead to her death is to completely leave common sense at the door, ignore Justin's known disposition, Ayla's current injury at time of death and past injuries and would be to ignore every child abuse case one has read about here or elsewhere. If you can believe that can't believe Phoebe didn't really usebPandora on purpose, good grief.

Again, I repeat what I said. It is far more logical to conclude Ayla was beaten to death by Justin than Phoebe's mentioning of Pandora's box, Ayla's eyes, etc., etc., have some deep seeded riddle. If anything, Phoebe is playing herself as the victim with the Pandora comment, she isn't trying to give out a clue and it wasn't a "letting marbles slip" moment.

Through all of this, Phoebe has made her baby boy and his buddy and the rest of the gang and herself victims, tacking on Ayla here and there. All poor Phoebe has left in Pandora's box is hope, only she doesn't realize how misused yet apropo her metaphor was.

Maggie said...

Anon @ 6:39--If the ME police believe their "blood slideshow" represents abuse and/or a murder scene, (and I believe it represents both), Justin should be under arrest.
Justin may have killed Ayla alone, but I believe Phoebe disposed of her.
In my opinion LE needs to figure out which one "came up with the plan" (both Phoebe/Justin telegraphed the plan)--this will be the killer.
If anything, in my opinion, Phoebe came up with the plan. You notice she has an attorney, but Justin does not. When and if the cops close in, Justin will go down and not her. This is why I believe she was the "mastermind".
