Statement Analysis: Marion Barry and Crack

We've covered this before and found that Marion Barry was deceptive in his answers about smoking crack cocaine.  After that, the video of him smoking it came out.

We note how dropping a pronoun is reduced commitment and is done sometimes by the deceptive.

We also know that "never" is not a Reliable Denial, since "never" covers a vast portion of time and allows the subject to feel less internal stress of lying.

Lance Armstrong "never" took PEDs.  Note the article from the NY Post below has the dropped pronoun.

A reliable denial has 3 components.  Any less than three and it is Unreliable.  Anything added to a reliable denial will nullify it as well.

I.  the pronoun "I"
II.  the past tense verb "did not" (or "didn't")
III  the specific allegation answered.

"I did not smoke crack" would be very strong.

We learned, years ago, that Marion Barry was unable or unwilling to say these simple words, even though he was interviewed repeatedly.

Statement Analysis Rule:

If a subject is unwilling or unable to say he did not do it, we are not permitted to say it for him.

Marion Barry says he ‘never smoked crack’

Former Washington, DC, Mayor Marion Barry claims he’s never smoked crack cocaine — despite a widely circulated surveillance video that showed him lighting up a pipe and inhaling.
Barry made the stunning claim on MSNBC during an interview hyping his new book, “Mayor for Life,” according to the Washington Times.
Never smoked crack — as simple as that,” said Barry.
We have two indications of deception:
1.  He avoids the reliable denial of "did not" with "never"
2.  He drops the pronoun "I"
The MSNBC interviewer challenged Barry, now a DC council member, to explain the infamous 1990 FBI surveillance footage of him smoking a crack pipe at the Vista Hotel.
“The federal government never proved there was a crack pipe,” Barry told the station. “Jurors didn’t believe it.”

Barry served time in jail and lost his post as DC mayor as a result of the bust — in which where he famously denounced the woman who brought him to a hotel room wired by the feds.
The enraged Barry muttered over and over, “Bitch set me up . . . . I shouldn’t have come up here . . . goddamn bitch” — references to the woman who lured him to the hotel, former girlfriend Hazel Diane “Rasheeda” Moore.
Barry has always blamed his downfall on a racially motivated FBI entrapment. But he has acknowledged he’s made mistakes.
“That’s a little sliver of time in my whole career. That ’90s is over,” Barry said. “I want people to judge me by my entire life.”

Police investigating the tragic death of an Atlanta toddler apparently left alone for hours in a hot car by his father have raised the possibility that the tragedy may not have been an accident.

Justin Ross Harris, 33, was supposed to drop his toddler, identified in reports as Cooper, to daycare around 9 a.m. Wednesday but instead went straight to work, apparently forgetting the boy was strapped in his car seat in the back of the vehicle for seven hours.

Police already hold Harris responsible and have charged him with murder and cruelty to children in the first degree, but inconsistencies in his story have led police to openly question if what the Home Depot employee is saying is true.

'Much has changed about the circumstances leading up to the death of this 22-month-old since it was first reported,' Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce told CNN.

'I've been in law enforcement for 34 years. What I know about this case shocks my conscience as a police officer, a father and a grandfather,'said Pierce.

Having initially told police he forgot to drop his child off at daycare and then traveled onto work, Harris phoned 911 at around 4.20pm in hysterics screaming, 'What I have done?'

'Within moments of the first responders getting to the scene and doing their job and questions began to be asked about the moments that led up to their arrival at the scene, some of those answers were not making sense to the first responders,' Pierce of Cobb County Police said.

On Thursday, Harris pleaded not guilty to felony murder and cruelty to children charges. He's being held without bond at the Cobb County Jail.

Ominously for Harris' story, Pierce told CNN On Friday, 'I cannot confirm that the child, as originally reported, was in the car at 9am.'

It wasn't until 4 p.m., when he was driving home, that Harris claims he noticed his son was lifeless in the back seat.

He pulled over the SUV at the Akers Mill Square shopping center on Cobb Parkway and tried to perform CPR on the boy but it was too late.

A witness, Dale Hamilton, said told CBS46 he saw the distraught father pull the child out of the car and attempt to resuscitate him.

'He was constantly saying, "What have I done, what have I done?"' Hamilton said.

Police added that he had to be restrained at the scene because he was so upset.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harris is being held without bond in the Cobb County Jail.

The high temperature in Atlanta was 91 degrees Wednesday.

A police warrant states Harris, who goes by Ross and works at Home Depot, admitted he left the 22-month-old unattended and strapped into his child car seat in the parked vehicle for approximately seven hours during the day before finding him unresponsive.

'It's just a terrible, God-awful situation,' Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
'I can't imagine, I can't fathom what any parent would be going through at this stage. It's the type of case that affects the community.'

An autopsy will be conducted by the Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death for the child, police said.

Harris, a Tuscaloosa, Alabama, native, had been working at Home Depot for just over two years.

Harris, his wife and Cooper were renting a condo off Terrell Mill Road, but hoped to buy a home, their landlord, Joe Saini, told the news website.

He described Harris and his wife as 'very, very nice' people who loved her son dealy.

'Everything was going right for this couple,' Saini said. 'They wanted to buy a house so they could have some space for their child to run around the backyard.'

OH NO, Hobs!

It's horrifying, whether the child was forgotten, or worse. When will this stop!

Marion Barry has some nerve...hello, you were recorded sucking on the end of a lit crack pipe!

Regarding Hobs.

How awful. :'(

The part about not being able to confirm if the child was in the car in the morning is weird.

There's obviously not enough statements to go on, but the father yelling "what have I done" and needing to be restrained, seems like it would coincide with a true accident. That's what I hope anyway, I guess. The previous case (Russell Lindstrom) I was holding out hope for, seems to be far more tragic than originally thought.

I can't see how you can forget you have a child in the back.

They will be talking, moving or making a noise, you will see them in your rearview mirror, you will see them when you get out the vehicle.

A quote taken from gerry mccann's blog

"Sometimes people do things for reasons that even they cannot understand. An act of madness, an accident or sudden impulse can lead to consequences that people may never have imagined or intended. Faced with such a situation we believe any human soul will ultimately suffer torment and feelings of guilt and fear."

This reads like a confession, an admission of guilt ot guilty knowledge.

Since lying is stressful, was this his way or relieving the stress, a mea culpa without actually coming out and saying i did thid or i know who did what to my daughter.

Is he telling us what their defence (or kate's defence)will be?

911 Operator Listens To Intuition, Saves Alleged Rape Victim (AUDIO)

Diane Waldroop said there was just something about the man's voice.

"It was just the way he was answering me -- [it] made me feel like it wasn't genuine."

That's what Waldroop, an operator at the Island County 911 Dispatch Center in Coupeville, Washington, remembers about the emergency phone call she returned last Saturday, according to Q13 FOX News.

Waldroop only heard dead air when the call was received, which she said is fairly common. But upon following protocol and dialing the number to make sure there was no emergency, a male's voice answered, claiming 9-1-1 had been dialed accidentally by his 5-year-old daughter. In the background, a female is heard yelling before the man abruptly hangs up the line.

You can listen to the exchange below:

Caller. "Hello"

Operator, "Hi This 911 we just got a call from this number sir is there an emergency there?

Caller. "Oh no, were all family here (a little laugh)" (someone shouting help in the background)

Operator. " Oh ok"

Operator gets interupted.

Caller. " Hi, how are you doing, ok?"

Operator. "I'm sorry, hello"

Caller "Yeah were are ok"

Operator. Please don't hang up i have a couple of questions for you here.

Caller. "Sure"

Operator. "Can you tell me how 911 was dialed"?

Caller. "Yeah my daughter did it by accident"

Operator. "Ok and how old is she?"

Caller. "She's 5"

Operator. "Ok" (Shouting for help in the back ground) Ok, i just need you to confirm the address"

(Shouting for help)

The line goes dead.

Waldroop immediately sent officers to the address where the first phone call was made on Whidbey Island. When they arrived, officers found a woman covered in feces. The alleged victim said she had been held captive and raped repeatedly by the suspect, later identified as 50-year-old Douglas Blackburn, for five days. After swarms of officials blanketed the area, they found him hiding in a nearby orchard.

Darcy Zook, who lives in Blackburn's neighborhood, said the experience was overwhelming -- the suspect had been found just steps away from her doorway.

"It was really, really scary," she told the Whidbey News-Times. "That stuff doesn’t happen here."

The alleged victim told officials she knew Blackburn prior to the incident.

Waldroop, who mentioned it had been a "quiet day" until she received the phone call, said incidents like last Saturday's epitomize why she works for the dispatch center.

"I feel like I played a very large role in her life in just answering a phone," she told Q13 FOX News. "That's what I come for everyday — to come to work to take that call."

OT - Funny story. It was Christmas one year and we were all gathered at my aunts house. My friend and roomate, Mindy, had joined us. Mindy was admiring a large candle on the mantle and did know know it was lit. She spilled wax on her shoulder, but was not hurt. As the day progressed, she kept saying how she reeked of Marion Berry. I didn't know why she kept saying that so I finally said, "Why, Mindy, why does your shoulder smell like the Mayor of Washington DC?"

Ah Mark Redwine, a bumbling, drunken, hallucinating fool outwits authorities? How long will the travesty continue? A man beset with alcoholic paranoia. Hello! Interrogate him! Instead he's rushed away to the hospital on a stretcher? Very pathetic.

Sorry I meant to put that in the other thread where Mark Redwine was being discussed!

How it could be possible that anyone could forget their child in a car it is beyond me, and is apparently fairly common. I saw a news broadcast the other day telling how common it is and recommending that people leave their purses, cell phones, etc. in the back seat so they don't forget their child. Talk about the dumbing down of America. I just don't get it.

trustmeigetit said...

The only way I could understand forgetting your child is if you don’t normally take your child to day care on the way to work. You have a routine that you drive. You get in the

Car and like always, just drive without thinking.

Then, I know when my son was smaller, there were times he slept the entire drive when I would take him to day care.

And at a certain age, the seat faces back. And if you do like me and my husband did, we had car seat in each car so we didn’t have to move it back and forth. So, we always had a seat in the car, but not always a kid.

So if that was the case, it was out of the norm to take the child on his normal routine, the seat faces back and the child could very well have been sleeping the entire drive. Then I can almost understand.

And a lot of dads…..if the wife is a stay at home mom…. or mom does most of the caring for the child, I could see them just forgetting that…one day….. they had the kid. If its not normal, they don’t think about the child.

It is frightening.

I know it was something that I saw on the news once when I was still pregnant and so it always scared me. For me, I usually took my son to day care. There was a day my husband took him, and when I got to work, I had that split second where I panicked thinking I had forgotten him in the car.

According to police, Justin Harris' story of that days events are inconsistent. Rumors are swirling here that Harris parked in a different parking lot that morning and not the usual parking deck he parked in everyday. He parked in the outside visitors lot. I read somewhere that in addition to screaming "What have I done? " he was overheard saying "Our child is dead." Possibly on the phone to the mother. Isn't that distancing? I'm not good at statement analysis. If the account is true and he was speaking to his wife on the phone why wouldn't he use his name ? "Cooper is dead!"
