Statement Analysis: Mel Hall

Former professional baseball player, Mel Hall, convicted of various sex abuse crimes against children had this to say about his conviction.

We note that a Reliable Denial is given during the Free Editing Process (FEP), that is, while the subject is freely choosing his own words.  A Reliable Denial consists of:

1.  The Pronoun "I"
2.  The Past Tense "did not" or "didn't"
3  The Specific Allegation addressed.

Mel Hall is a serial sexual predator.

Common "Unreliable Denials" include:

"Would not" or "wouldn't"
"Never" instead of "did not" or "didn't"
Dropped pronoun "I", or use of "we" as singular person
Minimization of the specific allegation (like "harm" instead of "kill")
To claim to be "innocent" is to deny the conclusion, not the act.

We expect Mel Hall to tell us he did not do it.

Principle:  If a subject is unwilling or unable to say he did not do it, we are not permitted to say it for him.

"I've always gone to the beat of my own drum, basically, and that probably did not help me. Maybe things would have been different if I was the straight-laced blue collar [type]. Who knows?" he said.
"I know I'm innocent and I don't believe I was proven guilty of the charge," he said. "I believe I was proven guilty of my lifestyle."
Here, he does not say that he is "innocent" but that he "knows" he is.  This is to avoid saying "I didn't do it."
He admitted to having a sexual relationship with 14 year old victim, but said he waited until she was of age.
"I'm playing for one of the biggest organizations in the world. There's no way they're going to allow improprieties like that."
Note the use of present tense language.  This is still to avoid issuing a denial while talking to the reporter.

"I've always gone to the beat of my own drum.

I would question if he maybe a control freak. Does he feel he is above the law, given his past status, as in, do you know who i am, or something of that ilk?.

I would also ask, what is his, subjective internal dictionary definition, of, Maybe things would have been different if I was the straight-laced blue collar [type]. especially the word "type"

Re what "improprieties" would or wouldn't be allowed --

The article details many instances of bad behavior -- putting his wife and girlfriend in the same hotel during spring training, sexual excesses, fights, bringing a gun into the clubhouse, other trouble with the law, etc. then goes on to say,

"So when Hall started showing up to the ballpark with 15-year-old Jennifer Diaz, the most common reaction was one of amused curiosity.

The tabloid news show "A Current Affair" did a story on the odd couple. When Jennifer sat in the family section with players' wives 10 and 20 years older than her, his teammates teased him for picking up his fiancée at Toys "R" Us. The organization, in a portion of their 1991 team yearbook devoted to players and their significant others, even included a picture of Mel and Jennifer at a school prom. No one blinked, at least publicly. It was all part of Mel Hall being Mel Hall."

The article describes how, despite their failure to affirmatively interfere with his underage relationship with his 15 year old girlfriend, the Yankees unsuccessfully sought to trade him before eventually releasing him when his contract expired. No American teams wanted him so he ended up playing in Japan for 3 years. He came back as a pinch hitter for the Giants for a month then was released again. The White Sox signed hm then released him after four games in the minors.

So, it looks like these "biggest organizations in the world" allowed him to do whatever he wanted, so long as he produced the results that they wanted. When his skills faltered then they wouldn't put up with his shenanigans anymore.

Ugh- I read the first several chapters of that ebook (for free) and not only is he disgusting but I can't believe how many parents were oblivious to his manipulation a, or just compensated into not caring.

On the facebook page 'Justice for Cooper Harris' I saw a picture of Cooper's grave. There was a vase with dead flowers in it, that's all.

Someone named Ben McRea went and put flowers and a toy fire truck on it and tweeted the picture, and it probably looks much less forlorn since the facebook group became aware of the desolate sight Cooper's grave was and shared it.

Leanna is not grieving. Cooper's barren grave is poignant proof to me of how unloved Cooper was by his whole family. Her lawyer might want to clue her in on how we truly grieve.

I did a reverse search at the white pages for the number listed as the graveyard's number and it lists the number is for Tuscaloosa Memorial Park and the Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel.

R.I.P. Cooper xo

The address for the graveyard is:

5434 Old Birmingham Hwy
Tuscaloosa, Alabama USA
Postal Code: 35404
Phone: (205) 553-3141

The link for a local florist there is:

Here are the 2 pictures of Cooper's grave, 1 is from before Ben McRea placed the flowers and toy, 1 is of it after.

This is what happens when a parent that loves their child encounters them being abused:

Note this is not the behavior we have seen from Billie Dunn, the Celis', the Dipsticks, et al.

Mel Hall should look like the guy in this photo.

Leanna Harris seeks help from anti-defamation lawyer in toddler death

Channel 2 Action News has learned the mother of the child killed in a hot car is seeking counsel from a high-profile anti-defamation attorney.

Leanna Harris is the mother of Cooper, who died after his father left him in a hot car while at work. Police charged her husband Ross Harris with felony murder, saying he intentionally left 22-month-old Cooper for hours in a hot car.

On Tuesday, Leanna Harris' attorney issued the first statement about his client, saying the public's got it all wrong. Wednesday, it appeared this team is going on the offensive. A source tells Channel 2 Action News she’s potentially expanding her legal team.

The source close to Harris says she will meet with Lin Wood, an Atlanta attorney who has handled several high-profile anti-defamation cases.

"I think the move to talk to Lin Wood is really to put out there, ‘Hey, media, please don't defame my client. Please don't talk about her unless you know the truth about what's going on,” said defense attorney Ashleigh Merchant.

Merchant, who's not connected to the case, says defamation claims are extremely tough to prove, so she sees this as a shot across the bow.

"I think this will serve its purpose by having people be a little bit extra careful when they talk about her," Merchant said.

The source, who asked to remain confidential, says Harris is looking to defend against so-called tabloid media speculation has swirled around the mother and whether she had any role in her child's death.

On Tuesday, her attorney, Lawrence Zimmerman, issued the first statement about Leanna Harris.

"Getting through each day seems almost impossible. Dealing with her grief has become more difficult as the days go on, however, in large part because of the constant speculation and innuendo in the media."

Channel 2 Action News called Wood's office for comment but was told he’s out for the rest of the week.

Lin Wood = lead attorney for John and the late Patsy Ramsey and their son in matters relating to the 1996 murder of JonBenet Ramsey in Boulder, Colorado

Now, why would Leanna hire the same anti-defamation lawyer as the Ramseys...

Peter, does the things written on t-shirts represent or equate to a statement?

Russell Lindstrom wore a t-shirt in his interview after Bella Rose's death that had what looked like 'sarcasm' and a quip about it. I found it an odd thing to wear considering the circumstance.

In a video taken July 10th, Leanna Harris is wearing a t-shirt with 'you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince' written on it, which is a saying I would expect to hear a disgruntled woman use. It sounds bitter.

Here is a copy of a comment I posted on the last Leanna Harris article; I included a link to the video where Leanna is wearing the t-shirt I am writing about in it:

While reading about Leanna Harris looking to hire Lin Wood, an anti-defamation lawyer (who was also a lawyer for Patsy and John Ramsey), I came across a July 10th video of Leanna walking away from a reporter who is asking her something. In the video, Leanne is wearing a t-shirt with the statement 'you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you meet your prince' on it. Leanne has enough money to afford to buy clothing to her choice; she isn't in community hand-me-downs. She chose to wear this knowing she is seen and photographed by media when she goes out, so I think she is saying something by wearing it.

Last week we read she was seen leaving Ross's lawyer's office then the next day we read Ross didn't see her at the jail he is being held at. The day after that, Leanna hired a lawyer, and now she seems to be pulling a team of lawyers together...for her, not for Ross. If she's gone back to see Ross, I think we would have read about it, and considering her eulogy for Cooper was more of a support rally for Ross I would have expected her to be there with/for him every chance she could find. Now seeing her in the video with the t-shirt and the statement she chose...

I wonder if Ross's lawyer told her if it goes badly for Ross during the grand jury or goes to death penalty, get ready because Ross will prove her involvement and throw her under the bus in a plea-deal to lower the charges.

I wonder if she went to the jail to see Ross because she was angry or freaked out by what his lawyer told her but he didn't want to respond knowing she would be difficult to face.

I wonder if this is why she immediately went out and hired a lawyer.

I wonder if she knows she is going down; otherwise, why is she pulling together a team of high powered lawyers for herself? She hasn't been charged with anything yet.

Here is the link to Leanna in the frog kisser t-shirt, which I think makes her seem to be making a personal statement against Ross:

Juliette, I agree with you and have said all along that the DA will drop the death penalty hanging over the husband and get him to plead out for life imprisonment while testifying against his wife. I hope he does, let them both spend the rest of their lives in prison with a long time to think about what they have done.

You guys could listen to the media as much as you want. Yes I would react the same way and say what a monster he is . But I know the truth and proof the girl that said she was 15 years old when she dated him & when she went to the Yankees game WAS Not 15 years of age she LIED and was 17 years old. The only reason that she went to court was because of him leaving her when they were dating for 3 years. Shame on you ! CHAD! Then again going to the media with same old LIES and gave them pictures of herself smiling away! What a Victim! She couldn't wait to get interviewed. I couldn't have him no one will. She went to court for Revenge period. As for the real people or fans I don't blame you too feel that way towards Mr. Hall. You know what you hear and it's horrible. I know the Real Truth. Hope Mr. Hall will have a chance to speak. For people to hear his side of the Story! It has 2 sides...Then you will judge it once every thing comes out.
