Mother Who Left Kids In Car Spends Money

We saw several of these cases in the past summer.  Here is one in which the mother received a great deal of sympathy from the public, and now it is reported that she plans on seeking more money from the public.

Arizona mom who left kids in hot car spent thousands of dollars of donation money 'to finish her baby daddy's rap album': ex-pal

Shanesha Taylor was charged with felony child abuse earlier this year.APShanesha Taylor was charged with felony child abuse earlier this year.
The Arizona mother who left two of her kids in a hot car during a job interview spent thousands of dollars in donation money "to finish her baby daddy's rap album," a former supporter claims.
Shanesha Taylor was charged with felony abuse earlier this year, but prosecutors said she could avoid jail if she put $40,000 in donations into a trust fund for her children. A New Jersey woman had helped raise $114,000 for Taylor after her plight — and teary mugshot — went viral.
Taylor, however, failed to put the money in the trust fund by the deadline imposed by the judge, throwing away the "deal of a lifetime," said her attorney Benjamin Taylor.
Prosecutors charged that Taylor was spending more than $4,000 a month on non-essential items, and now a former supporter of hers says she even spent some dough on a rap album.
"We had someone call my office and alert her attorney to the fact that she spent $6,000 at a music studio in Tempe to finish her baby daddy's rap album," Reverend Jarrett Maupin told ABC. "That's not what people gave her that money for."
Maupin believes her money may have run out — and Taylor is once again trying to raise cash, according to Fox 10.
I feel bamboozled and used a little bit, but I don't regret it because on its face she was what she was,” Maupin told the station. “Everyone had sympathy for her, but what she's become is something quite different.”

When contacted by ABC, Taylor said "I haven't spoken to [Reverent Maupin] since July 21st. He has not been part of my defense team. Anything he says is libel or slander."
Taylor is due back in court next month.

Note that she does not say it is not true.

Sadly this was not unexpected.
This would explain her refusal in court to reveal how much was left, claiming it was in her mom's bank account and her mom didn't want it revealed.

I bet most, if not all the money has gone.

I now expect her to claim she was conned/misled/scammed or blame her mom/lawyer etc for the missing money along the lines of they didn't tell me i had to do this or that, or they claimed it was ok to pend it this way or that way, please can i have another go and this time i will pay the money into a trust fund.

Apparently her excuse last time for not doing the trust was, her children would never go to college and thus would not be able to access the money.

it is sad and telling that she tells the world her children are dumb and would never make an effort to study and make something of their lives.
If they knew they had a trust fund to pay for college then that would be an incentive to work hard and make something of themselves.

I wonder if this is because she wants them to carry on her legacy and do a dead end job , if they get one at all, and rely on the state and hey, if they can come into money through whatever, even better.

I think it takes a person of very strong character not to spend money that's come into their possession. especially if you've never had extra money and never learned financial skills. She was wrong to do it and should face legal reprocussions, but I just think it's more - normal behavior - than we'd like to think.

I personally think that anyone who disagrees with the above, is only fooling themselves.

No one else.

Anyone see the recent documentary on Turner Classic Movies about the child star from the early 20's?

She made a TON of money and her parents bought houses and more houses and ended up...

with nothing.

spending money they are supposed to be sitting on is what all the world banks do. they just know how to not get caught.

I agree, I'm not a bit surprised...actually I would be shocked if she had entrusted the money to her children's future, or used it to obtain her own education, and therefore better job prospects. (and babysitters for her kids while doing so!)

I guess I'm jaded. I've marveled for years at the inability of certain people/defendants to follow the simplest of basic societal rules. For a good national example, just look at the NFL abuse scandal. While out on bond for blistering his small son with a switch, then joking about the welts he left all over him, Adrain Peterson showed up to his court date high, and TOLD one of the court officers he had just smoked weed!

Peterson gets paid millions to play football, yet the money made no impact on his basic social skills and behavior. He still beat his kid, still got high, still violated a court order. They SHOULD throw him out of the NFL, and the same thing goes for Ray Rice. There are plenty of athletes who could be just as good as them with the kind of training and support they get...and maybe they can follow the rules!

In many cases, windfall money only enables a more extravagant level of bad behavior. As far as this woman goes, I don't understand why anyone would donate money to her in the first place. She left her defenseless babies in her car, in Arizona, to bake to death. Only in America could despicable behavior, with no regard for the safety of her own children, prompt pity and 100's of thousands in donations.

Sigh..

What kind of crazy order lets you avoid jail by depositing money in your "victims"/children's bank account ? Sounds like the prosecutor doubted that a conviction could be had, but still felt the need to assert power over the accused--thus the crazy order. This type of justice undermines the entire system.

Ms. Taylor was also required to take parenting classes and some kind of drug abuse classes. During this time, the children were also removed from her care by CPS. I agree, tho, the caveat for the trust fund seemed odd to me.

Once you donate money, that's it, it's gone. That's why I don't understand why people are so quick to donate to a lot of these cases.
