Statement Analysis: Floyd Mayweather's Statement On Domestic Violence

As people are preparing to pay $100 for a pay-per-view boxing match, lost, perhaps, is the element of Domestic Violence and its impact upon women.

Floyd Mayweather has been arrested or cited for Domestic Violence at least 7 times, for assaults against 5 different women.

These are what are known, publicly.

What Domestic Violence advocates report is something very different.

What one finally results in a conviction or citation is often just window dressing for what goes on behind the scenes where women are often too afraid, too ashamed, or have too little support to take legal or even just practical action.

Floyd Mayweather is a serial batterer of women.

Last year, he was asked about the high number of arrests.  He said, "No pictures.  Just hearsay and allegations."

The problem with this statement is not just that it is unreliable.  He could not bring himself to say "I did not strike my wife" or "I did not hit any woman" or anything close.  In fact, with 7 arrests/citations, it would be difficult for him to make a denial because he would have to speak to a specify one to be reliable.  This large number could only be met with the unreliable, "never" in response.

D/V victims are sometimes in positions where they are on the receiving end of anger...from women.

D/V victims have found themselves in vulnerable positions.  They fear not being believed.  They fear retaliation.

They fear being blamed.

Mayweather is a star in a media driving world.  This means, like Michael Jackson and initially Lance Armstrong, defenders can be rabid in attacking the victims.  Women have been accused of "betraying" the abuser, "ruining his career", being a "gold digger, anyway" and other such unjust claims.

Some may have medial issues and will lose benefits for following through with the legal complaint.  Others simply cannot afford to get free financially.

The impact is not just for the life of the victim, but is generational as children are raised in an environment where:

Growing boys see how to control women through violence at first, and the threat of violence afterwards.  They sing rap songs that routinely use derogatory terms for women.  The arbitrary gender  taught in school teaches them that there is no discernible difference between male and females, anyway.  Since there is no difference, the old teaching that masculinity sacrifices its strength, rather than use it to exploit, is not applicable. To physically harm one who is weaker is distinctly un-masculine behavior.

Girls who grow up in domestic violence also feel a sense of 'normalcy' in violence and are desensitized towards it in general.  Note the violent "ratchet girl" videos where "world star, world star!" is yelled by males watching females violent assault one another for the entertainment of the men. The "world star!" refers to the fact that the video will be posted for the public.  The videos are shockingly violent, and the lack of revulsion, itself, is frightening.  We now regularly read of violent crimes by females in manners we have not always seen.  It is a culture of violence and its impact is generational.

This too, is cemented in culturally in music.  Remember, music is a powerful influence particularly upon minds that are in a state of heightened development.  As a reader here, you know that words matter, and the violent lyrics, especially towards women, have impact.

For those who uphold Mayweather as a hero, a woman who suffers violence at his hands must consider facing the rage of fans as it is "her fault" and she should have "kept it private."  Some victims have even found their own families blaming them.  How much more so when the abuser is a celebrity?

"No pictures.  Just hearsay and allegations."

Lots of hearsay and lots of allegations.  That he said, "No pictures" indicates that there is no evidence of what he did, rather than deny the action.  It is a public insult, given to the media, against the women that have been abused by him.

I grew up with seven sisters.  I have two daughters.  As a boy I learned that it was distinctly unmanly to ever put a hand upon a woman in anger.  It was wrong and why it was wrong was explained in easy to understand terms.

The public is not only willing to fork over a lot of money for a match, but to do so means to ignore his misogyny and crimes which spread over years and show consistent disrespect to women, no different than the steady diet of rap music that employs insulting terms towards women.

In 2001, he punched one of the mothers of his children, repeatedly in the face, and then slammed her face into a car door.  He pled guilty.  The six month jail sentence that might have caused him to fear returning to jail was suspended and he was given a small fine, community service and "house arrest." How's that for protecting women?

With no tangible punishment, a year later he attacked two women at a nightclub in Las Vegas.  Having been found guilty, he was, again, sentenced to 6 months in prison, but again, it was suspended.  This time the fine was even lower.

Another attack and against yet another mother of his children resulted in more of his highly skilled and powerful punches to the face of a woman, and had their son call 911 for help.  Another plea bargain and another reduction of sentencing:  3 months incarcerated reduced to 2.

May weather is a misogynist and serial abuser of women.  This was not a one day fight that broke out between him and his wife in which he expressed repentance and sought to rehabilitate his life, his marriage and his name.

This is a thug who cowardly has used his strength to harm those women in his life, without regard to the impact upon them, the children, nor even the public who adores him.

His abuse of women is honored by the legion of fans paying for the fight.  It is not just his culture of abuse exampled, but the culture that ignores what he has done to women.

"No pictures.  Just hearsay and allegations."  This is to avoid denying the violence, but to affirm the truth of the allegations admitting only that pictures of what he has done do not exist.

If our culture had the respect for women that it claims to, there would not be enough money in the supply and demand to support this fight.

It would have been helpful to have the president of the United States comment on this extreme example of serial women abuse, even as he has commented on lots of sports and some criminal cases since taking office.  He has been silent particularly when he could have used this to highlight the disgust our nation should feel over the statistics of violence against women.

May weather:  "I had a chance to sit down with Obama before he got nominated. Barack Obama is truly a great guy. A great guy. The coolest president that I ever met. He's got swag."

Floyd Mayweather is a serial abuser of women, with his fists.  He makes millions of dollars with his fists and he more adept at using them than most anyone else.  The same fists he has made millions on, he has used to strike the faces of women.  MGM, Las Vegas, all the sponsors, CBS (owner of Showtime), should be ashamed of themselves.  It is reportedly the richest fight in the history of boxing...a man who has consistently physically abused women and there should be ashamed of themselves.

They aren't.

The CDC says  that every year 4.7 million women experience violence of a physical nature at the hands of a male partner.  From advocates and investigators, just as from family and friends, we know it is a dramatically under-reported crime, even while 1 of every 4 women has experienced it.  The collective indifference is astounding.

While making thoughts a crime, America is celebrating a chronic, serial abuser of women.

Something is very wrong.

No boycotts.  No presidential comment.  No online protests. Nothing from politicians who usually fall over each other when an opportunity presents itself. Nothing from the networks.

What is it about this fight that has a serial brutalizer of women, setting an example for young Americans about violence, that is met with no protests, but millions of dollars?

"No pictures.  Just hearsay and allegations."

Well said Peter, Mayweather is a scumbag.

http://m.tmz.com/#Article/2014/09/04/shantel-jackson-floyd-mayweather-jr-lawsuit-gun-domestic-violence

Floyd Mayweather's ex-fiancee Shantel Jackson is suing the boxer -- claiming he attacked her on multiple occasions and once PULLED A GUN ON HER and threatened to shoot.

According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ Sports, Jackson claims Floyd first got violent with her back in 2012 ... right after he was released from the slammer in a domestic violence case involving another woman.Jackson claims the two were arguing when "He twisted [her] arm, choked her and forcibly took her phone away from her to look through it."

Jackson claims Mayweather got violent again in April 2013 ... when during another argument, he "bent her arm, restrained her, and pointed a gun at her foot, asking 'Which toe do you want me to shoot?'"

In her suit, Jackson claims he then demanded her to remove her 17 carat diamond engagement ring at gunpoint.

Jackson also claims Mayweather invaded her privacy when he posted photos of her sonogram on social media -- and claimed the "real" reason they broke up is because she "killed our twin babies."

There's more ... Jackson claims Mayweather struck again in Feb. 2014 at his condo at the Ritz in L.A.

Shantel claims she was trying to leave following yet another argument -- when Floyd grabbed her by the arm and dragged her back inside. She claims Floyd blocked her from leaving for more than an hour.

She's suing for assault, battery, defamation, invasion of privacy, intentional infliction of emotional distress, harassment and more.

Calls to Mayweather's camp have not been returned.

http://m.tmz.com/#Article/2014/05/01/floyd-mayweather-abortion-twins-break-up-shantel-jackson

Floyd Mayweather says he broke off his engagement with Shantel Jackson because she got an ABORTION without his blessing ... this according to the boxer's social media pages.Floyd's Facebook page AND his Instagram account each displayed an image of what appears to be ultrasound results and analysis showing at least two fetuses.

The document was accompanied by a caption that read, "The real reason me and Shantel Christine Jackson @missjackson broke up was because she got a abortion, and I’m totally against killing babies. She killed our twin babies."

Floyd and Shantel split up last year ... after Floyd had given her a $10 million diamond engagement ring. Jackson recently told us she has moved on.

We've tried to reach out to Floyd's camp -- so far, no luck.

-He is "totally against killing babies", but apparently has no problem with beating up their mother.

----------

The Baltimore Police Commissioner Watts just made a 'lighthearted joke' to close out his joint press conference with the National Guard, and State Police urging protesters to maintain curfew requirements, and demonstrate safely, by referencing his 'pick to win' the Mayweather fight...then walking away laughing without revealing his choice.

How appropriate on so many levels! Imposed curfews to quell days of violence are such a 'lighthearted' topic, and introducing the topic of a blood lust filled violent sporting event, while urging 'protesters' not to become violent, isn't ironic at all! Reveling in the outcome of a boxing match is SURE to keep everyone calm, and level headed, right?!

Duh.... Shantel had many opportunities to run after every one of her beatings inflicted by Floyd. Am I saying she deserved them all after that first beating? No, I'm not; but I am saying she must have wanted that $10M diamond ring awfully bad to keep hanging around for MORE beatings. Dumbass. I guess the thought never occurred to her that she could take a hike, prove the abuse, and legally keep the ring while she still had it.

Big dummy. Did she have sense enough to think the thing through? Uh... NO. In spite of the painful injuries she kept subjecting herself too, he STILL managed to get the damned ring away from her. Then and only then, did she throw in the towel and split. Guess she had nothing left that made the beatings worth it, huh....?

BTW Peter, I WISH you would speak out for the men who are abused by their women. We know all about these male on female abusers, but what about the WOMEN who get away with abusing the men in their lives while no one steps forward to expose them or to help these emotionally and physically abused men?

There are many good, kind and wonderful men who take years of abuse off the woman (sometimes more than one woman) in their lives and silently live a life of great suffering and pain, too ashamed to speak out and in many cases, fear of more pain or the loss of their children and everything they ever worked for; sometimes even losing their lives to these women.

When is someone going to speak out for THEM?

Men abused by women are a very small minority.

Men are physically stronger than women.

Back to staying around for more:

Victims of DV often stay for more for a variety of reasons:

1. they are "comfortable" with abuse. This is likely a result of growing up (during development ) exposed to DV

2. they are in denial

3. they blame themselves--they feel like a failure and hope to "win over" the abuser

4. They often have no support, and are trapped.

If the one you mentioned wanted to gain monetarily, it is a heck of a risk to take but there may be much more going on than what you anonymously posted.

I have interviewed many victims.

Too many.

Peter Have you ever done any thing on the man Cal Harris who has been convicted twice of murdering his wife? His third trail has been with the jury several days and a verdict is expected Monday. Just curious.
Thanks

Anonymous,

I have not heard of that case, so if you have a link or better yet, transcripts, please post.

The lack of critical thinking, as I look over the Floyd Mayweather situation where he barred female reporters who dared question D/V, is evident, even in discussion today.

Bruce Jenner.

We have a terribly mentally ill man in desperate need of help.

Instead, we are following Europe, in making it a "civil right."

Followed through with critical thinking, the results are not difficult to predict.

"Is this a male or a female?"

Answer: We do not know. We will have to ask.

Ask who?

Ask the person.

I do not imagine dog breeders have the same struggle.

I too would love to look at the Cal
Harris case more. Estranged wife disappears one day...

I was looking myself for statements. There's not much from early one. But he was on 48
Hours of anyone has time to transcribe. But there was an article with one quote that I think was telling.

Moriarty asked Cal Harris directly whether he had anything to do with the disappearance of his wife.

"Absolutely not, not even close."

Not a reliable denial.

Peter, ref your response yesterday concerning DV suffered by men that is being perpetrated on them by women:

While your statistics may be true as you know them, and just because you have interviewed more women who have been abused by men than vice-versa, this does not mean that the same four items you listed do not also apply to men who are being abused by women.

Turn your four items around and apply them to men. The many who have been or who ARE being abused by women suffer the same four sets of circumstances.

You can add to that a number five: These men cannot afford to leave their homes and children; to be charged with abandonment, to go where and live how? Most of them are kept broke and in debt by the women who abuse them.

Add to your list number six: These men love their children and would sleep in pure shyt before they would ever walk out on them no matter what they have to take from their mentally disturbed screaming, raging, banshee-woman, or alcoholic or drug abusing wife who curses, attacks, and throws things at them day and night. They are trapped.

Not ALL men are cads, Peter. Just because men are (physically) 'stronger' than women, as you pointed out, does not mean they are ruling the roost with brute force. There are many men who were taught to never raise their hand to a woman no matter what she does, just like you were, who live lives of pure hell with some of these women and can't do a thing about it.

Neither are all these women angels of light. You just don't get it; there is a new breed of woman out there. They are mean, nasty and abusive towards men, and towards their children as well. There are many evil and abusive women getting away with abusing their husbands, both mentally and physically; who suffer silently every day of their sorry lives but are too ashamed to speak out or try to defend themselves. They have little or no money, nowhere to go and no one to turn too. It is THESE men I am speaking of, not the Floyd Mayweather's of the world.

There needs to be men's abuse shelters set up in every major city where they would have a place to run too and could take their children with them. I think you'd be shocked to learn the statistics are very high.

Your statement indicates that you believe that women who are "mean, nasty and abusive" are a "new breed."

What makes you think that this "breed" of women is new?

Whom and what do you blame for the development of this "new breed" of women? What do you think prevented this behavior in the old "breed" of women?

Oh, and why do you think that "abusive" was third on your list of the traits of this "new breed" of women?

1. Mean
2. Nasty
3. Abusive

Oh PLEASE, use your head for something besides a hatrack. 1) Mean; 2) Nasty; 3) = ABUSIVE!

As for my use of the terminology "new breed of women"? Yes ma'am, there certainly is. When I was growing up and raising my sons, we never heard of or knew women who acted like so many of them do today; loud, boisterous, profanity in every other word, cleverly scheming and using men for everything they can get out of them then throwing them aside as if they hadn't just stomped on his head, or making sure they have trapped him for the rest of their lives; living together married or not, and keeping the poor devil whipped in line physically, mentally and financially, drunk, doped up, you name it. When there are children involved? OMG! Their hell on this earth will not end.

I'm talking about nice young men who were well-bred, properly raised and educated, intelligent and on the go with their careers, never dreaming the traps they were falling into. They had only ever known honest, decent and kind women like their mother and other female relatives.

Just wait until you have a son (or TWO!) who experiences these evil women and finds himself trapped in a lifetime of abuse. I guess that's what it will take for you to see the world so many of these good men are living in now with the new breed of abusive women.

They are evil in every sense of the word.

To the anonymous about female on male violence:

My article did not focus on it simply due to statistics, but please don't interpret this as a lack of care.

The men that I have found to be bullied are those who are emotionally bullied, rather than physically, and the weapon held over them, if employed, will, in my opinion based upon the few cases I dealt with, lead to divorce.

That a man may be physically abused by a woman can and does happen, and it is, perhaps, heightened in impact by the shame that will likely keep him silent.

It must be like a prison.

If you have a specific case, without names,, please feel free to share.

I am aware that some women are abusive towards men. Men who are abused deserve the same protections as women who are abused. If you or anyone you know are being abused, the National Domestic Violence Hotline serves both men and women and can be reached at 1-800-799-SAFE.

I am asking you why abusive was third on your list of characteristics describing the "new breed" of women. In a conversation about abuse, "abusive" should take priority over "mean" and "nasty." The new list begins with "loud" and "boisterous."

Mean, nasty and loud could be considered emotionally abusive traits. Boisterous is objectively non-abusive, so why was it included?

If you meant to imply that "mean" and "nasty" are the components that define an abusive woman, why say "mean, nasty and abusive?" This implies that abuse is an additional trait of the new breed of women, and the order of these traits prioritizes "abusive" as third.

I am also asking about the newness of this breed of women. Abusive women are not new, so what is new about these women?

If it is "new," then something caused this development. What do you think caused this new breed of women?

What do you think led you to conclude that I am a woman?

KM, I do not wish to respond to your argumentative twisted post above. I've lost a son due to being battered and abused by a woman. Understand, you're not smart enough to twist my words around and I won't waste my time on discussing this with you any further.

Ditto to you Jen Ow. LOL? It is NOT funny; and NO the woman involved was not my DIL. My son was never married to her. You think your comment was cute? It wasn't. My son is dead now from a massive heart attack because of a woman who physically beat on, cursed, battered and abused him starting more than twelve years ago. They had a child together, whom he loved and adored dearly. This is why he took her mental, financial and physical abuse all those years. It took her twelve long years to kill him but she finally did. I knew years ago that eventually her abuse of him would kill him. It did. She was the beginning of the end for my beautiful brilliant son.

Peter, thank you for your kind offer to do statement analysis on this situation, but it's too late now. God decided to rescue him from his abuse on 9/20/14 and took him home to a better place he had prepared for him. He is at peace now and I am dealing with it.

BTW, she was only 5'2" weighing in at 110#s, while he was 6'4" and weighed 270#s. He could have snapped her scrawny neck at any moment but because of the way he was raised, taught and believed, he would not lay a finger on her. From talking to attys and others in various related professions, we learned that there are many more abused men out there who live with their lot in life daily and cannot budge out of their abuse. It isn't just women being abused. Oh, but she'll get hers. It's all a matter of time and the great day of judgment that awaits her.
