Tamika Cross Statement Analyzed

Dr. Tamika Cross is alleging discrimination by an airline in order to gain compensation for herself.

Is she telling the truth?

Or, is this another example of "fake hate", where one deliberately behaves in a way to provoke a negative response in order to claim 'discrimination'?

The statement is posted first, and then broken down with analysis added.

I.  Dr. Tamika Cross' Statement

'm sure many of my fellow young, corporate America working women of color can all understand my frustration when I say I'm sick of being disrespected.
Was on Delta flight DL945 and someone 2 rows in front of me was screaming for help. Her husband was unresponsive. I naturally jumped into Doctor mode as no one else was getting up. Unbuckle my seatbelt and throw my tray table up and as I'm about to stand up, flight attendant says "everyone stay calm, it's just a night terror,...
A couple mins later he is unresponsive again and the flight attendant yells "call overhead for a physician on board". I raised my hand to grab her attention. She said to me "oh no sweetie put ur hand down, we are looking for actual physicians or nurses or some type of medical personnel, we don't have time to talk to you" I tried to inform her that I was a physician but I was continually cut off by condescending remarks.
Then overhead they paged "any physician on board please press your button". I stare at her as I go to press my button. She said "oh wow you're an actual physician?" I reply yes. She said "let me see your credentials. What type of Doctor are you? Where do you work? Why were you in Detroit?" (Please remember this man is still in need of help and she is blocking my row from even standing up while
Bombarding me with questions).
I respond "OBGYN, work in Houston, in Detroit for a wedding, but believe it or not they DO HAVE doctors in Detroit. Now excuse me so I can help the man in need". Another "seasoned" white male approaches the row and says he is a physician as well. She says to me "thanks for your help but he can help us, and he has his credentials". (Mind you he hasn't shown anything to her. Just showed up and fit the "description of a doctor") I stay seated. Mind blown. Blood boiling. (Man is responding the his questions and is seemingly better now Thank God)
Then this heifer has the nerve to ask for my input on what to do next about 10 mins later. I tell her we need vitals and blood sugar. She comes back to report to me a BP of 80/50 (super low, to my non medical peeps) and they can't find a glucometer. We continue down that pathway of medical work up, but the point is she needed my help and I continued to help despite the choice words I had saved up for her. The patient and his wife weren't the problem, they needed help and we were mid flight.

She came and apologized to me several times and offering me skymiles. I kindly refused. This is going higher than her. I don't want skymiles in exchange for blatant discrimination. Whether this was race, age, gender discrimination, it's not right. She will not get away with this....and I will still get my skymiles....

II.  Statement With Analysis

I'm sure many of my fellow young, corporate America working women of color can all understand my frustration when I say I'm sick of being disrespected.

Priority:  Where one begins a statement gives us insight into priority.

Here is where she chose to begin her statement; not with an introduction of discrimination, but seeking the assurance of a certain crowd's understanding.

She begins her address to this certain audience with the dependent word, "fellow", which only 'works' in language if we consider those she is about to identify, with herself.

She herself is, according to the employment of the dependent word, "fellow":

1.  young
2  corporate America working
3.  female
4.  of color

She is "sure" that those, who are just like her, that is "young" and "working" but also "female" and "color", will understand her.

Her priority is being understood by a small, select group of people.

This select group excludes:

Old,
male,
non-working women,
white

The priority does not appear to be "discrimination" but attention from a specific audience.  By this, the topic of race is introduced, along with gender.

Race and Gender are in the priority of the subject.

Note this in relation to "my frustration" and "disrespect."  This would not be understood by others, only the race, gender, and working status described.
Was on Delta flight DL945

Standout here is the missing pronoun "I" in the statement.  This dropping of the pronoun "I" indicates a psychological distancing or 'removing oneself' from the account that is about to unfold.

This is, statistically, a very strong signal that deception is going to take place in the account of what happened on Delta Flight DL945.

and someone 2 rows in front of me was screaming for help.

The one screaming for help was "someone" but is not given any description at this point.  Her location is given, but no identifying factors or elements are presented.  Why not, "A woman cried out for help" or something similar?

Her husband was unresponsive.

The context tells us that the one screaming was a woman.  Since the priority audience is established using race and gender, and this "someone" fulfills one of the criteria, one might ask if this "someone" was not a "woman of color."

I naturally jumped into Doctor mode as no one else was getting up. Unbuckle my seatbelt and throw my tray table up and as I'm about to stand up, flight attendant says "everyone stay calm, it's just a night terror,...

The need to describe reacting as a "Doctor" (her capitalization noted) as "naturally" tells us one thing while suggesting another:

1.  It tells us that whatever "mode" she was in at this time, was not "Doctor", or that being "professional."  This is akin to

2.  Suggesting that her behavior, at this time, was not professional.

There is also a 'need to persuade' element with "naturally" that is similar, in analysis, to the word "normal", which tells us, when used, that the situation or day was anything but normal.

This is a possible insight into her own behavior at the time, which will be interesting should she pursue a law suit and witnesses are called.

Note the capitalization of the word "Doctor" is done improperly.  It is not expected that one with such a high level of education would misuse simple grammar rules.

Does the capitalization indicate a 'need to be respected' by the subject?

no one else was getting up.

The subject was not in "Doctor" mode, and shows here that she delayed offering assistance, waiting and watching for someone else to help instead.  This is to show a delay in time during a period of time in which her behavior was not likely professional.

Unbuckle my seatbelt

Here she refuses to commit to a past tense action with the pronoun "I"
This lack of commitment, for those of us following the events as described, are unable to say "she unbuckled her seat belt" because she, herself, has not said so.

She began this account without the pronoun "I", psychologically removing herself from commitment, and continues it here.  This account, by a medical doctor, presupposes a high level of education.

and throw my tray table up

note the language of "throw" up, not push, nor even simply 'go to help' but

a. 'unbuckle my seatlbelt'
b.  throw my tray table up
c.  about to stand up

all has many details that are utterly unnecessary.

This is to indicate a deliberate slowing down of the pace of the story.  This is done when deception is about to take place.

If you take the dropped pronouns with the slow pace, it further affirms the weight of deception in judgment.

Note that "throw" is an unnecessarily harsh or physically descriptive term, as well.

Since we have a strong suggestion of unprofessional behavior, one might ask if the subject acted in a manner that caused the flight attendant to become concerned.

and as I'm about to stand up, flight attendant says "everyone stay calm, it's just a night terror,...

Thus far, we have a "someone" screaming for help and "no one" getting up to help, and then we have the detailed description of unprofessional behavior with a quote from the flight attendant that is revelatory:

"everyone stay calm"

"everyone" is usually used when more than two people are involved; as in a crowd.

Note "everyone stay calm" is not something the flight attendant 'yelled' but 'says';
this causes us to note not only the communicative language of 'says' (softer, conversational) along with the contradictory "everyone"; but we also note that there may be a need for "calm" from one causing a tumult of sorts:  the aggressive "throwing" up of the table tray.

Is it possible that the subject's behavior along with the wife screaming for help seemed, to the attendant, as a crowd?

A couple mins later he is unresponsive again

Note the use of the word "again" indicating a previous state of being unresponsive.  This is not supported with the phrase, "night terror", which is similar to a nightmare when one calls out during a troubling dream.

and the flight attendant yells "call overhead for a physician on board".

Note the change of communicative language:  to reach "everyone" in order to get them to "calm down", the flight attendant only "says" but here, the flight attendant is now yelling.

I raised my hand to grab her attention.

Here we see the pronoun "I" re-enter her statement.
Here we also see the need to explain, without being asked, why she raised her hand.
Note the language used:  she did not raise her to get the attention of the flight attendant, but to "grab" it.

Consider the word "throw" and now "grab", with specific body posture ("about to stand up") and now, the need to explain why she raised her hand is sensitive to her.

She said to me "oh no sweetie put ur hand down, we are looking for actual physicians or nurses or some type of medical personnel, we don't have time to talk to you"

Note first that this is a long quote, which unless specifically trained in interviewing, is, itself, unreliable.
Next note the inclusion of "sweetie" (not capitalized) as directed to the subject, herself.

"sweetie" may be something used by a professional to deliberately deescalate or calm down someone.

Note "put your hand down" as an instruction.

Since the subject felt the need to explain why she raised her hand, it will be interesting to hear from others, including the flight attendance, to learn what exactly the subject was doing with her hands and arms.

Note "actual" is added to the statement of quote.  If the statement of quote has any reliability we can see that the subject's own behavior would belie any assertion that she was a doctor (here, "physician").

Question:  Did the subject's behavior appear to be something not at all like a professional would be?

"we don't have time to talk to you" further suggests that prior behavior indicated that the subject was doing something that drew attention to herself during a flight crisis, medical or otherwise.

I tried to inform her that I was a physician but I was continually cut off by condescending remarks.

a.  "Tried" in the past tense is to attempt unsuccessfully
b.  "inform her" rather than say "I am a doctor" or "I am a physician" ; to "inform" her in language suggests "information communicated", which is likely more in detail that just calling out "I am a doctor"

Note the characterization of rebuke by someone who has given us a lengthy quote now has no details of the condescending remarks.

In looking at the author's style of writing, we see:
a.  lengthy details to start the story
b.  lengthy quote
c.  absence of all details of the insult.

We have no detail about the condescending remarks but again exact quote from 4 straight questions.  This is used to compare a baseline to a specific sentence.

Note "unresponsive again" versus "this man is still in need of help"

Note "oh wow!" is an expression of disbelief.

The disbelief comes after the description of behaviors that is not professional, causing the expression "oh wow!" from the flight attendant.
I respond "OBGYN, work in Houston, in Detroit for a wedding, but believe it or not they DO HAVE doctors in Detroit. Now excuse me so I can help the man in need".

She was able to recall and answer all four questions.
Note "doctors" and not "physicians" as a change of language.

Another "seasoned" white male approaches the row and says he is a physician as well.

Note the element of race in her language again.
Note the element of gender in her language again.
Note the qualification of the white male as "seasoned."

"Seasoned" is a word often associated with experience.  If she did not know him (as suggested in his language) she is able to recognize that his demeanor showed him to be experienced, which is given in comparison to her own.

He is a white male
She is a female woman of color

Then she adds in one more comparative difference:

He is seasoned.

This is yet another confirmation that her behavior was so unprofessional that a flight attendant did not believe she was a physician, but when she was thus shown to be a physician, the flight attendant chose the "seasoned" physician over her.

Thus the claim of racial discrimination is nullified by her own additional wording including "naturally" and "seasoned."

Note the change of verb tense.

She says to me "thanks for your help but he can help us, and he has his credentials". (Mind you he hasn't shown anything to her. Just showed up and fit the "description of a doctor")

It is interesting to note in her language that he "fit the description of a doctor" with the additional variant of "seasoned."

What was in her behavior that would cause a flight attendant to not believe her?

What was in her behavior that she saw the other physician as "seasoned", with the only comparative figure being herself?

I stay seated. Mind blown. Blood boiling. (Man is responding the his questions and is seemingly better now Thank God)

Note the body posture of "stay seated" in the present tense.  Body posture indicates increase in tension:

Question:  Was her behavior so inappropriate that she was she told to remain in her seat?
Then this heifer has the nerve to ask for my input on what to do next about 10 mins later.

As to the question of her being a "seasoned" professional, her self description showed unprofessional behavior to the point where a flight attendant:
a.  did not believe she was a physician
b.  did not trust her as a physician with the life of a stranger

Now, if any doubt remain, she uses the "fat shaming" insult of calling the attendant (or doctor?) "this heifer."

The unprofessional language is consistent with the description of her own behavior.

The story now moves into present tense verbs:

I tell her we need vitals and blood sugar. She comes back to report to me a BP of 80/50 (super low, to my non medical peeps) and they can't find a glucometer.

The "heifer" (insulted one) is seeking her advice.
She was spoken to in a manner she described as "condescended" but without any detail.

This puts a separation between the subject and the insulting attendant.  This is particularly acute given the language of:

"mind blowing" and
"blood boiling"

yet, this "heifer" who made her mind to be blown and her blood to boil now produces the intuitive pronoun "we" in the following:

We continue down that pathway of medical work up, but the point is she needed my help and I continued to help despite the choice words I had saved up for her.

The use of the word "we" is not expected here.

The patient and his wife weren't the problem, they needed help and we were mid flight.
She came and apologized to me several times and offering me skymiles. I kindly refused.

The need to characterize her response as "kindly" suggests anything but respectful.

This is going higher than her. I don't want skymiles in exchange for blatant discrimination. Whether this was race, age, gender discrimination, it's not right. She will not get away with this....and I will still get my skymiles....

Note the order:

Race

Age

Gender, with "race" coming first.

Motive:  Note that "she will not get away with this" is coupled with getting her "sky miles" with the word "still", (a dependent word), which tells us that she wants more than sky miles.

Analysis Conclusion:  "Fake Hate"  Deception Indicated

The subject's behavior (and language) belie any professional standing as a medical doctor.  Her behavior was likely so aggressive that she initially raised concerns that it was she, herself, who needed to calm down and be deescalated by the attendant.

Her words reveal a deceptive account (deliberate mischaracterization of what happened) as well as her own unruly and upsetting behavior amounting to one who reveals herself as a racist, in need of attention and her motive:  greed via exploitation.

Her emotions are artificially located in the 'precise' part of the story; something that is part of an editing process.

In an atmosphere where the customer is "always right", the flight attendant likely offered an apology and sky miles as she did not believe the subject was a doctor, and once she was believed, the flight attendant did not trust the life of a stranger in her hands.  Her behavior was likely belligerent 'victim status', as one seeking to deliberately provoke a specific response to justify her desire to exploit.

She is likely very difficult to work with, and as an OBGYN calling a woman a "heifer", it reveals more of her own personality.

She projects racism, an acute need to be respected, an aggressive personalty who is greedy.  As a medical professional, she sees herself, not in service of women, but as part of "corporate America", which is then highlighted in her statement to make one "pay" while still getting sky miles.  The lack of human empathy may have been sensed by the attendant.

In the comments section of a different article that had covered this story, someone had posted in the comments section stating that they were a passenger on this same flight seated nearby who witnessed the whole thing. They said that this doctor had been drinking on the flight and was very belligerent to begin with. Not sure if true but it matches this article's analysis.

Thanks, Peter!

The first time I read through her statement and I read, "they DO HAVE doctors in Detroit", it made me think that the doctors were in Detroit, but not on Delta flight DL945. Another opportunity lost to self-identify.

Do you know if Tamika is a doctor? Or is she a physician's assistant? She only refers to herself being in "doctor mode", but she replied to "physician" and could not provide credentials when asked to.

Nic said...

Anonymous @ 8:19, ah, maybe that's why she would not identify herself as a doctor. i.e., Being under the influence she did not want to chance the liability incase something bad happened and the couple sued her for poor judgement (under the influence).) It also speaks to why she did not have "credentials". Her impaired faculty/credentials were not "on call".

Last paragraph of Tamika's facebook post:

"She came and apologized to me several times and offering me skymiles. I kindly refused. This is going higher than her. I don't want skymiles in exchange for blatant discrimination. Whether this was race, age, gender discrimination, it's not right. She will not get away with this....and I will still get my skymiles...."

So Tamika wants monetary compensation, skymiles, AND to get the attendant fired. FIRED?! She's willing to to the length of destroying the attendant's life over this??

Tamika Cross should not be a doctor. She lacks the kindness, tolerance, gentle spirit, and professionalism required for the job.

Doctors are in a special position to harm, which is why the Hippocratic Oath is so important.

-

Ha, thanks for solving that one, Nic - she didn't behave like a doctor.

----

Peter, thanks for the analysis - she behaved much worse than I thought she had. I can see I must have approached her statement with some bias, as my expectation is that doctors are generally calm and well intentioned, so rather than see 'throw' and 'grab' as aggressive, I put it down to storytelling, an attempt to convey that she had felt a sense of urgency to help, when she had not.

---

I think she was comparing the white seasoned male doctor to the patient - the doctor was 'another white seasoned male', and she maybe hesitated in identifying herself because she did not want to treat a white seasoned male - she works with female patients - she didn't want to get involved with the sick white man. She said the patient and his wife were not the problem - sensitive, she maybe saw their need for help as a problem, because she did not want to give it. I think she meant 'older' by 'seasoned' - and age does speak to 'experienced', so I they were both identifiable by appearances as older professional males.

Is it true that Affirmative Action is responsible for planting the doubt? Forced employment, advancement or admission based on race or gender will always be a consideration. Is this person really qualified for the position? Reported just last week that black female 911 operator in Texas hung up on THOUSANDS of callers. Two deaths. Thats why the doubt exists! A couple of things.....did this woman write her own statement, or is she telling the story as someone else writes it?

To assume educated people are capable of applying correct grammatical rules is simply incorrect. Astonishingly, few people today are able to do that. Notice while reading published and "proofed" books and other material the number of grammatical faux pas. Often, even people with doctorates are lacking in this area, so this person's lack in that regard is not surprising.

Peter, Excellent analysis.
I also noted sensitivity surrounding whether she is actually a doctor, and when I enlarged her picture and looked at the writing on her doctor jacket, it appears she is actually only a medical student. I also think there is sensitivity surrounding WHY she was in Detroit.
She will be an absolute nightmare to her patients.

Today when I google "Tamika Cross" I see an endless listing of articles about her Delta incident, at CNN, Washington Post, New York Times, MSNBC, and countless other news organizations, and ALL of the articles are treating [a shallow reading of] one person's (Tamika Cross') depiction of the events as the indisputable factual description of the events.

ALL the various news organizations are falling all over themselves running headlines like "Flight Attendant to Black Female Doctor: "We're Looking for Actual Physicians" and "A Black Doctor Wanted to Help on a Flight, but Had to Prove She Was an Actual Physician".

I hate discrimination of any kind - age-ism, sexism, racism, and more. I hate injustice, and I always want to speak up for anyone who is a victim & needs sticking up for.

It seems the victim here is Delta Airlines and the flight attendant.

A deep-reading of Tamika Cross' facebook post shows she was waiting for someone else to come forward (another health professional), and was not communicating to staff she was a health professional, and when she finally comes forward, she gets the standard questions staff are trained to ask, and then IS invited to assist, in addition to another doctor on the flight.

It's terrifying to realize that one person can merely post something on Facebook, and then the media automatically tells her story [the shallow-reading version] as FACT, and throw so much shade on one company AND possibly result in a perfectly good employee losing her job!

As someone who always wants to champion for the rights of the weak, vulnerable, discriminated-against, the media's reaction to this incident is frustrating and depressing. I wonder how that flight attendant is feeling about now. I wonder how much hell she is going through, while Tamika Cross is receiving TONS of support, strokes, sympathy, cheers.

No responsible news organization should be posting a story as fact, based on one person's description! You must wait until you have other witness accounts AND the flight attendant's account.

I didn't say I didn't believe it. I said there was more than one opportunity to identify herself as a "doctor", but she did not. She replied yes when asked if she was a physician. She did not put "dr" in front of OB GYN, in the opening sentience she did not identify as "doctor", etc. My point is that as per another poster upthread, she had been drinking. What doctor would step up to the plate while under the influence unless they absolutely had to? The alcohol was likely served by the attendant so she was the one that nullified her credentials/deferred to the "seasoned" (euphemism for sober) doctor. The one who looked like a doctor, er I mean sober. The "sober" doctor did the assessment and downloaded the monitoring onto Cook. That's why I thought she might have been a physician's assistant. BP, glucose (?) etc., etc.

This is a post copied out of an airline pilot forum thread about this incident.

Take this for what it's worth:

Here's a reply posted on Facebook by one of the other doctors that attempted to assist with the ill passenger on that flight:

From another post:

"Is it my fault that this story would actually come up in the middle of my work day? I never expected this to show up on social media. I'm sorry if I don't walk around with items and trinkets from my latest trip! Be for real.
Anyway. I was 5 or 6 row behind the couple in trouble. Dr. Cross did stand up and start to get out of her seat. She was confronted and asked for credentials. Just like her, I don't carry anything that proves I'm a doctor either. Yes the patient was having what appeared to be a seizure. He did float in and out of consciousness. The stewardess asked Dr. Cross for credentials. Dr. Cross became extremely belligerent. Throwing her hands in the air and sounding extremely unprofessional. If I was a patient, her behavior would have scared me. In today's world....would you want some nut that claims to be a doctor taking care if you. Before I go on. Let's talk about Dr. Cross's attire. She looked sloppy and unkempt. A very good reason for the stewardess to question if she was a doctor. Not a black or gender issue at all..... as a side note. I rebuild cars in my time off. My hands are greasy, holes in my clothes. I wouldnt expect anyone to believe that I'm a doctor. But I don't have that kind of ego to get upset about it. Either accept my word that I'm a doctor or screw off. I don't care! I'm not the one dying. But go turn this into a racial issue is a scum move.
Anyway. They overhead called for a doctor. Me and another man got up. He did in fact have a DEA and an NPI card on him. I didn't and neither did Dr. Cross. The doc that tended to the patient didn't have any experience in ER or trauma. But he did his best. Dr. Cross was screaming up the isle on what he should do. It was a disgrace. She was calling the stewardess names and telling the doctor helping the patient that he was useless. The whole time making smug comments about his ability. Dr. Cross thinks that just because she may be a doctor that everyone around her must bow down. And don't go against her or she will blame it on racism... good lord this country is in trouble. Enough said."

Drs can be really arrogant even in the OR. Commenting and ridiculing the very person being operated on. At least the patient isnt aware of it.

Hospitals are businesses. The OR is the money maker. Its an assembly line. Surgeries are booked back to back. Slow surgeons may be great but they have to answer to Mgt. Its a bad system.

The Delta press release said there were three doctors on board. I dom't understand the opening sentences of the guy on the pilot forum - maybe he was responding to other posters. He sounds genuine to me, even if his grammar is not that good. Seems annoyed, probably wished he had been able to help, and embarrassed at TC also being a doctor. 'Screw you, I don't care' - people do care when they say they don't - besides, he was speaking online, not in the role of doctor to patient. I think he was the third doctor - it would be pretty messed up for anyone to make that up.

Dr.Cross is just out of medical school and doing her residency. Thus her comment "more seasoned" in describing the white male physician. Her facebook page is open and she comes across in most of her posts as a defiant, self absorbed, very immature person. In one of her posts, she put a picture of herself in scrubs and one of her fb contacts asked what that was and she replied she was getting ready to do a hysterectomy. Now come on. She is taking a selfie as she heads into the OR, after being scrubbed? I don't think so. I think she was perhaps heading it to observe a surgery but not perform it.

I agree with Peter's analysis. My first read thru of her statements didn't ring true and that she was embellishing and omitting on many levels. Calling the flight attendant heifer was more than rude. She doesn't have a high regard for anyone but herself. I've worked in health care. I've seen the medical students with cocky attitudes. Most do not go very far. She is on that track.

Lastly, to the person who posted that it is incredible that someone can make one post on Facebook and without even vetting it for any truth, the news organizations run with it. One sided with no input from the passengers, flight attendants, pilot and take it as TRUTH. This is happening more frequently and it is destroying people's reputations in a blink. Social media is open and others jump on the bandwagon with even less information. Most just read a headline and react.

What happened to truth in journalism? Objectivity? Checking facts and sources?

We are in deep trouble.

Peter, can you look to see if my post went to spam ? I am pretty sure I just posted .. Now I don't see it.

In the meantime, I did find this article on Tamika Cross. She is a resident. She has her medical degree from school but she is really still in the process of training. I do hope that we see the outcome of this story and it's not buried. I hope she is faced with the objective follow up and understand her actions and reactions were not helping anything in this emergency medical situation. She contributed to the chaos and confusion rather than try to respond in a calm professional manner.

http://sandrarose.com/2016/10/delta-defends-flight-attendant-who-didnt-believe-black-woman-was-a-doctor/

Delta airlines defended a flight attendant accused of racial discrimination during an in-flight medical emergency.

Dr. Tamika Cross, an OBGYN resident, accused a flight attendant of discrimination because the attendant refused to believe Cross was a doctor.

Cross, 28, is the chief resident at Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital in Houston, Texas — which means she is still in training.

In her Facebook post, Cross explained that a crew member called for a physician when a male passenger lost consciousness during a flight to Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Cross said she volunteered to help, but the flight attended told her she needed a “real” physician.

“She said to me, ‘Oh no, sweetie, put your hand down, we are looking for actual physicians or nurses or some type of medical personnel, We don’t have time to talk to you,” Cross wrote.

Cross said the flight attendant began “bombarding me with questions” when she told her that she was a doctor. But Cross did not produce any credentials to prove she had a medical background.

Eventually, a white male stepped forward and announced he was a doctor.

“She says to me, ‘Thanks for your help, but he can help us, and he has his credentials,” Cross wrote. “(Mind you he hasn’t shown anything to her. Just showed up and fit the ‘description of a doctor’) I stay seated. Mind blown. Blood boiling.”

Later, the flight attendant apologized to Cross for the misunderstanding and offered her SkyMiles.

“I kindly refused,” Cross said. “This is going higher than her. I don’t want SkyMiles in exchange for blatant discrimination.”

A message posted on the Delta website, stated that three passengers identified themselves as doctors but only one “was able to produce documentation of medical training.”

Delta stated the flight attendant followed proper protocol by requesting documentation.

Some Facebook users accused Cross of being an angry black woman with a superiority complex who made the in-flight emergency all about her.

Note to Tamika Cross- We're all "people of color", just varying degrees of melanin, including the absence of melanin. More melanin in a person's epidermis does not equate to more valuable to society. One may also attain a medical degree, but fail their residency requirements. One may even attain the status of Doctor of Medicine and fail utterly in their profession because their ego outweighs any natural talent or mental prowess they possess. It takes a team to treat a patient, Chief Resident.

lynda said...

Tamika should have some sort of repercussion from her lies.

When you graduate medical school..you are allowed to put M.D. behind your name but they can't practice medicine on their own yet. They need to receive a medical license. All states require additional training to receive their licenses. Back in the old days, these people would be called interns and it referred to them being in their first year of post grad study. Residency requires anywhere from 3-5 years extra training. To my knowledge, most states allow you to receive a medical license after 1 year of specialized training.

Hence, the power of the "victim status" mentality that has an unfortunate backlash in human nature.

Peter,

This is Delta Airlines response on Twitter about allegations of discrimination on a recent Delta flight.

Delta continues to investigate a story surfaced by Dr. Tamika Cross in a recent post on Facebook.

We are troubled by any accusations of discrimination and take them very seriously. The experience Dr. Cross has described is not reflective of Delta’s culture or of the values our employees live out every day. We are in the process of conducting a full investigation. We’ve reached out to Dr. Cross to speak with her directly, talked with our crew members and we’re reaching out to customers who were on board to gather as much information as we can.

While there is much we can’t share because our investigation involves confidential personnel matters, we do want to share what we can.

Three medical professionals identified themselves on the flight in question. Only one was able to produce documentation of medical training and that is the doctor who was asked to assist the customer onboard. In addition, paramedics met the flight to assist the customer further.

Flight attendants are trained to collect information from medical volunteers offering to assist with an onboard medical emergency. When an individual’s medical identification isn’t available, they’re instructed to ask questions such as where medical training was received or whether an individual has a business card or other documentation and ultimately to use their best judgment.

Delta's commitment to diversity, inclusion and respect of all of our customers worldwide is rooted deeply in our company’s values and culture. As a global carrier with a diverse workforce, serving a diverse customer base, we are committed to treating all passengers with kindness and respect.

Thank you, Seagul.

I believe Delta will issue some form of an apology and Sky Miles for "misunderstanding" due to Political Correctness. Look at the statement's last paragraph as "diversity" being used as if it is something positive, by itself. Adding weakness is diversity, just as adding strength is. Many ingredients, without discernment, is poisonous.

The problem is the Black Lives Matter Syndrome where lies trump truth.

BLM is a racist, violent, terrorist, cop killing organization, funded well, that is based on a lie; that is, false narrative that cops kill blacks.

Al Sharpton routinely extorted money from businesses threatening them with public boycotts. This is a lie.

Politicians make a strong stance and then back down due to pressure and say they "evolved", which negates character.

Society fears being labeled "racist", "xenophobic", "homophobic", islamophobic" and eventually, society is going to get tired of being blamed and will spark back. This is frightening, but it is human nature.

We are descending into a Third World Nation where corruption is not just dominant, it is accepted. We are no longer under a rule of law, particularly for the wealthy who are politically correct.

The winds of war are blowing in Europe. Winds can blow for many years before war comes, but it appears likely.

5 Islamists raped a woman in a wheelchair over the course of hours.

The prosecutors refused to press charges because, they said, it was "she said; lots of he said", with one saying "it was consensual."

Also because she did not run away.

Sharia says that the rape victim must produce 4 witnesses. If not, she can be charged with adultery and stoned to death. She must also run away.

A citizen met the rapists coming out of jail and called them scum and demanded they leave the country.

He is under arrest.

This is where we are headed.

This is what happens when "feelings" trump truth.

This reflects the state of religious freedom in that country ten years after the United States first invaded it and overthrew its Islamist Taliban regime.

The report, which was released last month and covers the period of July 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010, also states that “there were no Christian schools in the country.”

Ode,

This is what I meant about a Third World Nation.

Corruption so steep that the multitudes care not, nor have any use for discernment. The silencing of opposition, arrests and loss of freedom eventually will impact those who, right now, feel like a protected class.

From the point of human nature, the moral narcissism appeal is powerful. Linguistic gymnastics to torture words into new meanings only to see how quickly people fall in line.

Today, if you want truth, you must be willing to be labeled immoral.

This is no different than Nazi Germany or Soviet era Russia.

Due to the level of corruption, my age, the declination in such a short time, the acceptance of things that just a few years ago, would have been considered poor humor, the condemnation of logic, reason, truth,

I have a lot of reasons why I am surprised.

I do not recall anyone predicting, 8 years ago, that "change" would be absurdity.

Many did predict the pattern of broken math (4 minus 5 equals Positive Seven, in the ongoing debt), and some increase in racial tension, but if you heard Obama's message at the funeral of murdered cops, and not be shocked that it was not rebuked, I tip my hat to you.

Surprise at police being threatened with arrest for upholding laws at our borders shocks me.

The open hatred of police shocks me.

The open hatred of people of faith shocks me.

Sweden arresting people for posting on FB disagreement with government policy as "hate speech" while ruling the flying of the Flag of ISIS is protected free speech shocks me.

When I worked for the state, had I a single patient's name on my iPhone, I would have lost my job and faced possible fines.

When the mentally ill are given parades and access to children, I am shocked.

When I consider Europe fighting off Islamic invaders for centuries, turning around and inviting them into their lands and pay them to do so, I am shocked.

When a buffoon like sleazy TV personality/business owner is my only choice for a vote, I am shocked.

The depth and degree of decay in our nation, in such dramatic and rapid declination shocks me.

Thanks Peter from rescuing my post from spam. I'm not sure what I did but I'll try not to do that again :)e

I've been saying for awhile, the world is upside down. The disrespect for law enforcement is at an all time high. I know I've never seen anything like this. And the fact that leadership does not stand up for the men and women who put their lives on the line every time they wear their police uniforms, is frightening. The BLM organization is helping to break it all apart. Lawlessness is just one step over the line now. I never thought I'd see this in my life time.

I grew up with peace and love and thinking we could all get along with understanding. And starting 8 years ago, I've seen the lines drawn and more hate and anger than ever before. Can we recover from this?

We have media/journalists who do not check facts. They run with a story based on a face book post. One sided. Because it fits their agenda of hate but also because pulls in viewers with the drama.

And speaking of agendas, today the Catholic League put out a very scary report that George Soros is funding 4 different "alleged" Catholic organizations which do not support the Catholic teachings. The alleged organizations are promoting disputing the teachings and causing misinformation and confusion within the churches. http://www.catholicleague.org/excusing-anti-catholicism/

My dad told me many years ago. (I think I was in high school) He said that this country would be destroyed from the inside. There was an agenda to break down the family, the schools, the churches, and on and on. We would destroy ourselves. He read it in a book but unfortunately I do not remember the book. I used to tell him he was wrong and overreacting to change.

Looks like I was the one who was wrong.......

I posted a comment on an article in The Guardian about the Cross incident. The article was all about the "woe is me" how horrible we are as a society, blah blah..I stated that it was alarming that this story got so much traction so quickly based on ONE SIDE of the story and that it wasn't very responsible of journalists to do so. I also said that it was disgusting that Cross called another woman a "heifer" I also brought up the post by the other physician that was on board who said that Cross was belligerent, unprofessional, yelling, disheveled, had no proof, mocking of the doctor that did help, etc. and that if we believed HER statement alone, why wouldn't we believe THIS doc's statement? I ended my comment saying that I too, am a woman, in medicine, and Hispanic so I have also been on the receiving end of discrimination/racism but I fail to see Dr. Cross as having experienced it during her flight.

It was up for about 30 seconds and then deleted because it did not "conform"

Ridiculous.

I hope Delta releases every statement from every person they can on that flight and doesn't give Cross her precious "miles." I hope her peers and co-workers come to know that she lied, lied, lied. I hope she suffers some type of consequence for adding to the racial unrest in this country. She is a hate monger of the worst type IMO. I hope someone sends Peter's analysis to Delta.

www.americanthinker.com had an article about her this morning. The author grasps that Dr. Cross revealed much about herself in her wording.

S/A is not the only place where her aggressive and provocative behavior has been noted.

They seem to consider if "heifer" was a word she used to describe herself. That it is not clear, itself, is interesting, but with S/A, it is the word, itself, that she chose to use in this account that stands out.

Everyone has already pointed out most of the holes in Cross's story, but this one especially illustrates what Peter explains about our brain's struggle to suppress truthful information:

How would the flight attendant know whether Cross was returning home from Detroit, leaving her home in Detroit to visit elsewhere, or simply changed planes in Detroit?
