The Disappearance of Missing Teen, Bernadette Walker

The Disappearance of Missing Teen, Bernadette Walker

Guest Submission by Paul Maillardet

Bernadette, 17, from Millfield in Peterborough in England, was reported missing by her parents on 21st July 2020. She has not been seen or heard from since.

Her parents, Sarah Walker, 37, and Scott Walker, 50, said Bernadette ran away from them on July 18th. They became concerned and reported her missing three days later.

In a turn of events, on the 16th September both Sarah and Scott Walker were charged with their daughter’s murder at Peterborough Crown Court, Cambridgeshire. Both parents did not enter a plea at the hearing. They will stand trial in March 2021.

Bernadette’s body has not been found at the time of this article.

So, did Sarah and Scott Walker murder their daughter? Is their daughter simply missing as they say, and they are innocent?

The Walkers made three media statements prior to their arrest – by analysing these media statements and calls for Bernadette, can we shine more light on this case?

Whilst they may have been charged by the police, they are innocent until proven guilty. In Statement Analysis, we always work from the basis the subject is innocent, their words will guide us and signal if there may be information to the contrary.

Let’s take a look together and see….

Media Plea 1

“We need to make it clear that she's not in any trouble, we're all worried and want to know that she's safe."

The first thing we note is they do not speak to Bernadette directly, and do not use her name.

Instead their language is directed to us, the audience. Rather than immediately to call to their daughter to come back home, or to call-out to anyone that she may be with or may have her, they have a need to persuade us that Bernadette is “not in any trouble”.

We have to ask why Bernadette would be in trouble? It is unnecessary for them to tell us, and may well signal that the last time they spoke to Bernadette something did indeed happen, and she was in trouble with them. Bernadette would not be in any ‘trouble’ if they have knowledge she is dead, which could lead to such an assertion appearing in their language.

Their “need to make it clear” tells us that they feel they have to let us know that they are good parents, and are not responsible in any way for Bernadette being missing. This tells us they are very aware of their audience, and their language signals they may feel under scrutiny.

They go on to say that they “…want to know that she’s safe.” – note that they have not said they want her back – just to know she is ‘safe’. They do not tell us they want Bernadette back home, or her back ‘safe and well’.

Note that they do not use Bernadette’s name – the omission of names in a statement can often signify that the subject/s wish to psychologically distance themselves from the victim. They may not be able to bring themselves to say the victim’s name if they still harbour anger, regret or remorse or guilty knowledge. Killers can often continue to harbour anger towards their victims as they will feel that the victim is responsible for putting them in the position they face, and this can leak into their language.  Let us keep track and see if this becomes a common feature or not.

She added: "I believe the police are doing their job, but as a parent I need more. I'm desperate for my daughter to be found. When will they up the risk to high instead of medium?"

‘We’ has now become ‘I’ and their unity before is now gone. Here we are told she ‘believes’ the police are doing their job’. She does not tell us she has been in touch or engaged with the police.

“…but as a parent I need more.”  This is concerning – her daughter is missing, yet she does not describe herself ‘as Bernadette’s ‘mother’. She remains a parent as she has other children, but she distances herself from Bernadette yet again maternally and emotionally. She does not make it clear what needing more may be.

“I’m desperate for my daughter to be found” – She does not say she wants her daughter back home, but ‘to be found’.

Her language does not tell us that she wants her back with her - that she wants her home back with her and the family – that she wants her ‘safe and well’. Whilst her language here seems sincere, the use of “found” is passive. We would leave the possibility open that this may be ‘Leakage’ in her language in that she may know her daughter is dead, that she won’t be returning home, but that she will only be found – we find that this often reveals itself in the language of those that are guilty or have guilty knowledge.

Note we are still waiting for the Bernadette’s name to be used – she is ‘my daughter’.

Mum Sarah Walker has asked the public to help her in distributing posters, hoping that if she gets them into every area of the city, Bernadette will be found and will return home.

Sarah said: "We have had no contact with her since 1am on July 20, when she texted me to say she would be home soon. None of her friends have heard from her and she's not accessed social media."

We have had no contact with her…” – We look at her choice of words here, she does not say ‘We have not heard from Bernadette…’, but passively tells us they have not heard from her. The urgency and emotion of finding their missing daughter is not present. There is nothing in her language to say they have been trying to make contact with her, or that they have spoken to any of her friends. Bernadette’s name is still not being used by the mother.

The word ‘with’ in Statement Analysis signals distancing, in this case her mother distances herself through her language from any contact with ‘her’.

She added: "I can't eat or sleep properly. I miss and love my eldest princess so much, she's missing out on her baby sister, who has learned to smile and coo already. I have to think that she is hiding at one of her friend's homes, worried about coming home now that the police will want to speak to her, I can't think of any alternative scenarios, I just can't

We would understand that parents of a missing child would not eat or sleep properly. However, instead of conveying her concern for Bernadette - where she may be, if she has eaten, if she may be in danger – her focus is on Self and to convey that she is worried in what we would consider as being almost ‘scripted’ language.

“…she’s missing out on her baby sister…” – In Statement Analysis we often find the perpetrator of a crime will find subtle ways of blaming their victim after the fact, as they seek to justify their actions or indirectly blame the victim for putting them in the situation they are in. Here, whilst we can listen to the words in the literal sense, in our analysis this can be a sign of subtle blaming of Bernadette – whose name she still can’t bring herself to say.

“I have to think that she is hiding at one of her friend’s homes…” – Why has she not been instrumental in contacting and searching all of Bernadette’s friends’ homes? Again, this speaks to a weak assertion and lack of urgency and involvement – we would ask why?

“…worried about coming home…” – the mother contradicts her previous statement in which she told us that she needed to make it clear that Bernadette wasn’t in trouble.

“…now that the police would want to speak to her.” – Earlier she tells us Bernadette wasn’t in trouble but has a need to drop-in that the police would want to speak to her.

This is significant – rather than her statement being a warm and reassuring call for her daughter, instead we the audience are told why Bernadette would not come home. She’s ‘not in trouble’, but she may be worried about coming home, and the police will be waiting to speak to her if she does. The mother has a need to convey the reasons her daughter won’t be coming home.

“I just can’t think of any alternative scenarios, I just can’t” – In analysis, the word ‘just’ means that the person is comparing one thing with another. In this case she combines this by telling us in the negative what can’t have happened, rather than what she thinks may have happened, and her repetition of the word ‘just’ makes it even more sensitive. We would see this as a potential flag that she can think of alternative scenarios, and there is a scenario which is sensitive to her which could be from guilty knowledge.

"I know my baby girl wouldn't be out in the open. She's scared of being out in the dark alone, that's what makes me think she's at a friend's house. I just wish someone would just say she's here and she's safe. I want to cuddle her, but right now I'd accept that she's safe and well."

“I know my baby girl wouldn't be out in the open.” – How can the mother know with certainty she would not be in the open – this could be leakage once again if she knows that she is in fact concealed.

I just wish someone would just say she’s here and she’s safe’ – She does not say ‘there’ and she’s safe. This could suggest that she knows Bernadette is close to her ‘here’, perhaps close enough she could reach-out and cuddle her, but she knows she cannot.

September 10th Statement

Her mum Sarah Walker shared the news on social media, she wrote:

"Please keep sharing. The police have now put Bernadette Walker as a high-risk missing person due to the amount of time she has been missing. “

"Bernadette if you can see this, please let us know that you are safe. You can set up a new Facebook or Instagram darling and message us, that way you can let us know that you're safe without giving away your location."

Finally her mother uses her name…but not in a warm-way. Instead she uses her full-name, with extreme distancing language from Bernadette. She does not reference her as ‘my daughter’ and even further distances herself by referencing her as a missing ‘person’. With the Rule of Economy, she could have finished at ‘high risk.’, but instead disassociates herself further by using the gender-neutral term ‘person’. This is not what we would expect from the mother.

In her final sentences, for the first time she uses much of the language missing from her previous appeals. She is likely acutely aware of her audience and this is very scripted.

She does not call for Bernadette to come back home, just to message them to let them know she is safe. The urgency remains absent – a call would be an immediate plea to their daughter for her to make contact, or to any person who may have her or know where she may be. Instead Bernadette is guided by the mother to set-up new social media accounts in a convoluted means to avoid detection – why would her mother wish to highlight any means of her being located and conveying this?

·      The mother has the opportunity to use Bernadette’s name 19 times but doesn’t do so. This is extreme distancing linguistically from her daughter. This could signal her need to disassociate her from Bernadette if she has knowledge or involvement in her disappearance, and also possibly continued anger towards Bernadette if she blames her for anything that may have happened.

·      The language does not convey the natural urgency and emotion by a parent of a missing daughter.

Conclusion:

Conclusion: Deception indicated via missing information.

The statements are linguistically negative towards Bernadette, which given the circumstances is not what we would expect to find, looking at expected vs unexpected.

Her language indicates that she is withholding information.

Excellent Analysis, Paul.

OT:

I've always been intrigued why some people refer to themselves in the third person. I have myself in the past, at that moment, I've not looked back on it and thought why, what was said, what I was talking about (topic). Is it a form of dissociation, distancing?

Poirot, (yes I know its scripted) says it all the time. Why does Agatha Christie give, Poirot these lines?.

Now, Poirot is so full of himself, and self assured he knows he's right. Is that why he speaks in the third person? It (third person) fascinates me, why, is it how some talk, like when some say you know. Is it a habit, or, something more?

Still learning here.. I'm interested in this statement

"without giving away your location"

is this much different than stating

"without giving away a location"

Does this suggest knowledge of where Bernadette is located? I've seen analyses on here where differences between "a gun" and "the gun" (ie knowledge of) are discussed.

Seemingly without realising, her mother is telling us she does not want her location revealed!

Going by the presumption the mother is innocent, the expectation would be that the mother would very much want her daughter's location known, not concealed.

Missing Central Florida mother of 3: Volunteers, police search for Stephanie Hollingsworth

Since Thursday, an RV parked outside the Walmart on South Goldenrod Road has been set up as a “command post” where the family of Stephanie Hollingsworth’s have coordinated searches for the 50-year-old, who has been missing for two weeks.

Hollingsworth’s family as well as dozens of friends and community members have volunteered to search wherever they can as the Belle Isle Police Department conducts its own investigation into her disappearance.

Taped to the sides of the RV are missing person signs bearing Hollingsworth’s face and printouts of maps of the Orlando area marking where people have searched. By Saturday evening, landmarks and neighborhoods stretching from the Orlando Premium Outlets to pockets of the Orange County’s south and east ends were marked with yellow highlighter.

“We’ve had so many people searching all week,” Scott Hollingsworth, her husband, said. “What this allows us to do is to do it in an organized fashion so we can not backtrack and cover a bigger area.”

Stephanie Hollingsworth was last seen Sept. 25, having left her house around noon in a silver 2000 Chevy Tahoe with the Florida license plate Y50XUR. She was wearing a black shirt and gray or black pants when she went missing, police said.

Investigators said her debit card was last used at 2 p.m. that day to withdraw $20 from an ATM at a nearby Bank of America.

The search has so far been fruitless as authorities and the family have struggled to find any indication of where she could have gone. Police said they haven’t found signs of suspicious activity related to her going missing.

“Unfortunately, we have no updates at this time. Nothing. No leads at all,” Belle Isle police Chief Laura Houston said in an email Saturday afternoon. A $5,000 reward has been offered for information leading to her being found.

Scott Hollingsworth said it was unlike his wife, a mother of three, to go missing like that, having left the home without her cellphone or a change of clothes. On Friday, a vigil to raise awareness of his wife’s disappearance was attended by dozens, a testament to how beloved she was in the community, he said.

“She’s an amazing person, an amazing mother. She’s a beautiful soul and just gave everything she had to everyone in her life,” he said. “A lot of people loved her, and anyone could always count on her.” NTP?

The key to the search, Hollingsworth added, is finding the SUV, and he has called on volunteers and others driving around the area to be mindful of the vehicle.

“What we’re asking for is people to check all their immediate surroundings — parking lots, apartment complexes, remote areas," Scott Hollingsworth said. “Anywhere a truck like that can be parked and unnoticed for a long time. It can’t just disappear.”

Anyone with information on Stephanie Hollingsworth’s whereabouts is asked to call the Belle Isle Police Department via the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch number at 407-836-4357.

Context.
Not knowing why her husband used these words should be taken into account.

Thank you Paul, an excellent analysis.

“We need to make it clear that she's not in any trouble, we're all worried and want to know that she's safe."

The expected would be “Bernadette you're not in any trouble, we're all worried and want to know your safe."
Why would they need to make it clear?
Have there been times when she has been in trouble?
I would ask about the family dynamics?
Has she 'run away' before/stayed overnight with friends etc?
Are the family known to the police or social services?
Have her parents been accused of saying Bernadette is in trouble for what she has done or what is being done to her parents currently regarding the police?
Has she threatened to leave /move out previously?
Has she stayed with friends previously and if so for how long?
If so, why?

"I believe the police are doing their job, but as a parent I need more. I'm desperate for my daughter to be found. When will they up the risk to high instead of medium?"

What part of the job are they referring to?
Searching for their missing daughter?
Questioning the family and her friends?
Arresting them as her parents and charging them with her murder?

but as a parent I need more.
The word "but" should always be observed carefully, particularly observing the words that follow the word "but" in comparison to what preceded it. It can refute what preceded it, or can be used to compare, or even negate what preceded it.
What is the more that she needs?
She doesn't call out to Bernadette by name even though she has plenty of opportunity, WHY?
Why does she refer to herself as a parent which is distancing rather than as her mother?
There is a 13 year age difference between her mom and dad and it looks like her mom was on 20 when she had Bernadette which is quite young.
Her mom sarah is a mother of 10 which is a huge brood which means she has been pregnant for most of her adult life.

This is about as distancing as she can get, she doesn't even refer to herself as her parent
This seems to indicate that there was a poor relationship between mother and daughter, why?
What were the issues between Bernadette and her mom?
How long had these issues been going on for?
If they are doing their job, what more does she need?

When will they up the risk to high instead of medium?"
The risk to whom?
The police are not at risk by doing their job.
Does this relate to her missing daughter?
Does this mean the risk applies to herself?
Why would risk apply to her?
Why would they need to raise the risk to high from medium?
Who is she asking the question of?
If she was involved then there would be a risk to her.
If the police were investigating and she was not under suspicion then there was a medium risk.
High risk would come if the police then arrested her and subsequently questioned her regarding the disappearance/no body murder of her daughter.

I'm desperate for my daughter to be found.
Passive. She doesn't call out to her daughter to make contact with herself, other family members, the police or, in fact, anyone else.
She tells us she wants others to find her daughter rather than her daughter coming forward.
This tells me she doesn't know or believe her daughter is in a position to make herself known or to contact someone.
What has given her cause for such belief?
Is it guilty knowledge, something the police have told her or passage of time?

Given the circumstances, running out of their car why did they wait 3 days to report her missing?
What would have caused her to run away from them, from their car?
What did they do in those 3 days?

She made a quote:
"I know my baby girl wouldn't be out in the open
Does this mean she is not out in the open but concealed somewhere?

Great analysis.

I only have one minor point to make and that is, the use of Bernadettes full name - this was because Sarah had tagged Berni in the post and Facebook automatically auto fills the full name.

Maliyah Bass' mother and her boyfriend charged in girl's death; grandmother speaks

Snipped:

Maliyah Bass’s mother and her boyfriend have both been arrested and charged in connection with the toddler’s death.

Maliyah's grandmother, Rosalie Jimerson says she feels a sense of guilt that she couldn’t have done more to save Maliyah from all the pain. But mostly, Rosalie said she’s appalled by all the lies her daughter told about this case.

At the scene of a toddler’s body found in Bray’s Bayou in August, Maliyah Bass’s mother, 20-year-old Sahara Ervin and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Travion Thompson appeared completely distraught as they spoke reporters, concerned it was their missing daughter.

I am drained. I have been looking for her for 24 hours. They should’ve took me. They should’ve took me," Ervin said in tears.

“I asked her where’s the house? Just so she could know. Where’s the house," Thompson said.

On Tuesday, both Ervin and Thompson have now been charged with two felonies in connection with Maliyah’s death: tampering with evidence of a human corpse and injury to a child.

Ervin seen smiling in her booking photo.

I just blame myself. It’s like I feel like I failed on so many levels as a mom," Jimerson.

Jimerson said Ervin never confided in her on what really happened to Maliyah. Instead, Ervin was caught changing her story multiple times. Jimerson says had she known, she would’ve advised her daughter to tell the truth.

"Whatever happened, just tell the truth. Just tell the truth. And they got on national television, both of them, and they lied to the whole world," Jimerson said.

Great analysis, Paul.

"We have had no contact with her [since] 1am on July 20, [when] she texted me to say she would be home soon. None of her friends have heard from her and she's not accessed social media."

Timing is important to the mother in relation to having “had no contact” with Bernadette. This said in the negative makes it doubly important. The focus is not on when contact was had (positive), but instead when contact was [not] had. It is important to her that others know this information, she needs the listener to know what they haven’t had which makes it stand out as sensitive information.

She gives her words of “had no contact” a very specific time, “[since] 1am on July 20”, and by marking it with the word “since” she seeks to cover all time from present back to that point. Note she does not say this was the “last time” which would mark one specific point in time, but she stretches time with “since”.

“[when] she texted [me] [to] say she would be home [soon]”

She includes a second time reference by marking the date she gave with the word “when” and tells us Bernadette texted her. The mother uses pronoun “me” to let us know the message was for her specifically and does not seek to share its receipt with her husband by saying “us”. At this point Bernadette has been missing for two days and the parents have said she “ran” away which signals urgency and a need to escape on Bernadette’s part regarding her leaving. She didn’t just leave or walk off, but ran away.

Through her use of the word “to” we see the mother needs to explain why she was texted and the reason is to say she “would” be home “soon”. Here she gives another time reference (“soon”), this one is passive and fails to give any specifics”. Was she not told a time or is she withholding information?

"Bernadette [if] you [can] see this, please let us know that you are safe.

When asking Bernadette to let them know she is safe the mother has added a condition to her request. It is whether she “can” see this”. In order to make that statement we know the mother is thinking of reason/s why she “cant” (or might not be able to) see it.

"John McGowan" - illeism

There are a few reasons, aside from stylistic writing, that I don't recall.

I do remember reading that it's common for people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder do that. I think the source said they do it to keep their personas separate.

I've known a few people with NPD, and I never heard them do that. However, all of them, at some point, created an alternate name they used occasionally (not a nickname) "because they just wanted to" or "thought it would be fun."

Detective Superintendent Jon Hutchinson of Cambridgeshire Police said: “Whilst my team have made significant progress with this investigation in the last few days, we are yet to find Bernadette.

"Therefore my plea is for anyone who has information on what has happened to her, or where she might be, to get in touch as a matter of urgency."

Is he suggesting that others are involved in the murder or concealment of her body? Or is he hoping she’s alive?

In the darkness, we were waiting
Without hope, without light
'Til from Heaven You came running
There was mercy in Your eyes
To fulfill the law and prophets
To a virgin came the Word
From a throne of endless glory
To a cradle in the dirt
Praise the Father, praise the Son
Praise the Spirit, three in one
God of glory, Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings
To reveal the kingdom coming
And to reconcile the lost
To redeem the whole creation
You did not despise the cross
For even in Your suffering
You saw to the other side
Knowing this was our salvation
Jesus for our sake You died
Praise the Father, praise the Son
Praise the Spirit, three in one
God of glory, Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings
And the morning that You rose
All of Heaven held its breath
'Til that stone was moved for good
For the Lamb had conquered death
And the dead rose from their tombs
And the angels stood in awe
For the souls of all who'd come
To the Father are restored
And the church of Christ was born
Then the Spirit lit the flame
Now this gospel truth of old
Shall not kneel, shall not faint
By His blood and in His name
In His freedom I am free
For the love of Jesus Christ
Who has resurrected me, ohh
Praise the Father, praise the Son
Praise the Spirit, three in one
God of glory, Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings
Praise forever to the King of Kings

Maybe Tamla fell down the stairs going to the first floor or to the finished basement and the homeowner and boyfriend were concerned about being libel. The hostess criticized the alcohol Tamla brought to her party and was disparaging Tamla’s use of marijuana. That would explain her injuries and unnatural body positioning. And the staged scene with the balcony door left open and the homeowners boyfriend claiming he removed a lighter and a cigarette from the balcony before police arrived. Plus the coldness of their remarks heard on the 911 call noticing a tiny wound and speculating it may be self inflicted while the homeowner is heard guessing Tamla must have fallen off the balcony.

Although he searches to occupy his mind and to keep himself busy, he's often reminded of Sally.

While driving south of Great Falls, just outside of Helena on Interstate 15, he spotted two men panhandling on the side of the road and was reminded of Sally's generosity. Troy said that his wife would always stop to give people money.

"No matter where we were at or whatever the case. That's just how heartwarming she was," said Troy. "She was willing to give a handout to anybody and just take people and embrace people in.

The husband of Sally Smith is reminiscing while driving around looking for his wife. He then refers to her in the past tense.

Copied and pasted from web sleuth
Implying the parents were up to something. Web sleuth has 46 pages about Bernadette.

Makes you wonder why the police were investigating them even before Bernadette went missing.

On the mother's twitter she's posted quite revealing and IMO distressing photos of her children in pain and in recovery from their surgeries. She's also set up an unsuccessful crowdfunding account and tried to get celebrities attention. And she's also reached out to local media as there's articles about her children's rare disorder, wanting people to send birthday cards to her kids etc.. I'm not linking these to respect the dignity and anonymity of the children.

MOO and quite harsh and probably unpopular opinion.. posting photos of your children in such a vulnerable state is awful, and she seems very "me me me", and it also begs the question why those parents continued to have so many children knowing they had a high chance of having the same condition that would require so many surgeries throughout their painful lives (and would be crammed into a small council house).

As for the cars, having three or four children eligible for disability benefits plus the mother likely working the required 16hrs a week to claim working tax credits, would give their family a hefty monthly income, even if the dad wasn't working.

More about how Troy Smith has guilty knowledge about the death of his wife Sally.

Since Smith vanished, her husband said he drove more than 3,000 miles looking for her, the Tribune reports.

"Just sitting idle looking at Facebook posts just drives me nuts," he said.
JUST SITTING IDLE... was Sally found sitting in an idling car? Did he read about Marilane? Is he a copy cat killer? There’s many similarities in the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and manner of death. (I am guessing she was found sitting in her car and died from carbon monoxide poisoning) The Web Sleuthers reported that Troy her husband found her as posted on the Facebook site set up in the search effort.

Mum Sarah also urged the public to help distribute posters.

She said: "We have had no contact with her since 1am on July 20, when she texted me to say she would be home soon. None of her friends have heard from her and she's not accessed social media."

She added: "I can't eat or sleep properly. I miss and love my eldest princess so much, she's missing out on her baby sister, who has learned to smile and coo already.

"I have to think that she is hiding at one of her friend's homes, worried about coming home now that the police will want to speak to her, I can't think of any alternative scenarios, I just can't.

"I know my baby girl wouldn't be out in the open. She's scared of being out in the dark alone, that's what makes me think she's at a friend's house.

"I just wish someone would just say she's here and she's safe. I want to cuddle her, but right now I'd accept that she's safe and well."

Dad Scott also appealed for information, saying: "You can imagine how much we are both worried.

"We miss you. We need to know that you're safe. We love you."

'VERY PLEASANT'

Neighbours today told how police arrived at the home on Friday afternoon and seized a Mercedes from outside.

They then saw Bernadette's parents being led out of the house by cops.

TJ Chilvers said: "I’m surprised, they seemed a nice family.

"Police we’re here all yesterday and then even searched Sarah’s car after smashing the back window. It’s exactly the same model and colour as her husband’s but they didn’t take it away."

TJ described artistic Bernadette as "very quiet and pleasant", saying: "I only knew her to say Hi to. She never said much.

I wonder if the Police questioned this neighbor. He seems to have been watching the Walkers home, and admits to attempting to talk to Bernadette.

The grandfather of an 18-month-old girl who plunged to her death after falling from a window of a cruise ship in Puerto Rico last year has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide.

Salvatore 'Sam' Anello of Valparaiso, Indiana, admitted to the charges on Thursday after initially pleading not guilty last October.

The 51-year-old was charged with the death of granddaughter Chloe Wiegand who died after falling 150 feet from a docked Royal Caribbean cruise ship in July 2019.

Anello had been holding the little girl up to an open window on the 11th deck of the Freedom of the Seas ship, when she slipped from his grasp and fell to her death.

He announced his decision to change his plea earlier this year in hopes of moving on from the tragedy after reaching an agreement with prosecutors that involved no jail time.

'I took a plea deal today to try to help end part of this nightmare for my family, if possible,' he said in a statement in February.

Puerto Rico prosecutor Laura Hernández on Thursday said Anello would be sentenced on December 10. 'We have found justice for Chloe,' she said.

Anello's attorney, Michael Winkleman, did not immediately return a message for comment.

In a statement to DailyMail.com in February, Winkleman said Anello and the family made the 'incredibly difficult' decision to change his plea because the 'agreement includes no jail time and no admission of facts.'

'It was decided the plea deal is in the best interests of the family so that they can close this horrible chapter and turn their focus to mourning Chloe and fighting for cruise passenger safety by raising awareness about the need for all common carriers to adhere to window fall prevention laws designed to protect children from falling from windows,' he said.

Negligent homicide can be punished with a three-year prison sentence under the Puerto Rican criminal code however prosecutors will likely recommend a period of probation that can be completed in his native Indiana.

Anello has repeatedly said he did not know the window in the children's play area was open and that he lifted Chloe up to it so she could knock on the glass like she had done at her brother's hockey games.

'I wasn't drinking and I wasn't dangling her out of a window,' he said in a previous statement.

He also said he is colorblind and might not have realized the tinted window was open.

Sources close to Chloe's parents Alan and Kimberly Wiegand say the guilty plea will not change their belief that Royal Caribbean is ultimately responsible for her death.

The girl's parents sued Royal Caribbean last year and accused the company of negligence.

cont.

Royal Caribbean has tried unsuccessfully to have the case thrown out, presenting harrowing video footage of Chloe's last moments to argue that Anello poked his head through the window and 'unquestionably' knew it was open.

The company denies breaching industry safety standards, insisting he would only have had to rely on his 'basic senses' to realize he was endangering his beloved granddaughter.

The family said it would have been physically impossible for Anello to lean out like that.

Royal Caribbean did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday.

Chloe and her granddad were about to embark on a seven-night Caribbean cruise with her parents, older brother, fraternal grandparents and Anello's wife Patricia, when the tragedy unfolded.

Their vacation was supposed to take in the sun-drenched sights of San Juan, St Maarten, St Kitts, Antigua, St Lucia and Barbados but it ended in horror before the $800m vessel had even set sail.

Haunting on-board camera footage of the incident shows Anello alone on deck with Chloe, who leads her grandfather away from the H20 zone splash pool towards the glass sides of the ship.

He lifts the toddler up and sits her down on a wooden handrail but suddenly she tumbles forwards and disappears from view.

'All I know is I was trying to reach the glass and I know that we leaned over to try to have her reach the glass, at that point she slipped,' Anello said in an earlier interview with CBS.

'Chloe being gone is the worst thing ever so I'm like, whatever, you know. There's nothing worse that they could do to me than what's already happened.'

Scott Peterson's conviction for murdering his pregnant wife Laci and their unborn son will now be re-examined less than two months after the California Supreme Court overturned his death penalty.

The state's highest court on Wednesday ordered the San Mateo County Superior Court, which is where Peterson was initially tried in 2004, to consider whether he should be given a new trial.

It comes just weeks after the state Supreme Court overturned Peterson's death sentence, citing 'significant errors' in jury selection.

Peterson's attorneys had filed a separate petition giving several reasons why his conviction should be overturned as well, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The court agreed that one matter needed to be looked at to determine if Peterson should get a new trial based on a juror failing to disclose that she had been involved in prior legal proceedings.

That juror, Richelle Nice, did not disclose that she had filed a lawsuit in 2000 to obtain a restraining order after her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend harassed her while she was pregnant.

The juror said in her lawsuit that she feared for her unborn child.

Peterson's attorneys said that when asked as a potential juror whether she had ever been a victim of crime or involved in a lawsuit, she responded no.

His attorneys have previously claimed Nice deceived the judge to get on the jury for the high profile case.

Nice, who was among the jurors to jointly publish a book about the case, has denied those claims that she lied just to get on the jury.

In a case that garnered worldwide attention, Peterson was convicted in 2004 of first-degree murder of his 27-year-old wife Laci Peterson, who was eight months pregnant.

He also was convicted of second-degree murder of his unborn son, Connor.

Peterson has maintained his innocence.

Laci had disappeared on Christmas Eve back in 2002 from their home in Modesto, California.

Her husband told police that he had left that morning to go fishing in Berkley. When Peterson returned home that night, he said he called his mother-in-law to ask if Laci was there before subsequently reporting her missing.

Prosecutors contended that Peterson dumped their bodies from his fishing boat into San Francisco Bay where their bodies washed ashore nearly four months later in April 2003. They were found a few miles from where Peterson had said he was fishing.

The fetus washed up first and had a nylon rope around the neck and a large cut on the body. Laci's body washed ashore a mile away the following day with tape wrapped around her torso.

Both bodies were too decomposed to determine cause of death.

Investigators chased nearly 10,000 tips and considered parolees and convicted sex offenders as possible suspects while Peterson helped lead the search.

He was eventually arrested after Amber Frey, a massage therapist living in Fresno, told police that they had begun dating a month before his wife's death but that he had told her his wife was dead.

In August, the state Supreme Court overturned Peterson's death sentence with the justices citing 'significant errors' in jury selection that meant Peterson did not receive an impartial trial.

The court agreed with Peterson's argument that potential jurors were improperly dismissed from the jury pool after saying they personally disagreed with the death penalty but would be willing to follow the law and impose it.

OFF TOPIC:

"The Biden campaign on Wednesday denied a New York Post report that said the former vice president met with a senior official from a Ukrainian energy firm that was at the center of a controversy over the dismissal of a prosecutor investigating the company.

“We have reviewed Joe Biden’s official schedules from the time and no meeting, as alleged by the New York Post, ever took place,” campaign spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement."

Is this a "reliable" denial? They do not say there was no meeting. They only say it is not on the "official schedules".

frommindtomatter said...

“We have reviewed Joe Biden’s [official] schedules from the time and [no meeting], as [alleged] by the New York Post, [ever] took place,” campaign spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement."

It fails to say Biden didn’t meet him, only that there is no “official” record of a meeting.

“no meeting” said in the negative doubles its importance. It tells us what there wasn’t, but note it is passive. It avoids saying “he did not meet”. Also it is connected to “as alleged by the New York Post”, so only denies whatever was alleged by the New York Post. If the paper said they met on Tuesday afternoon for instance, but the meeting had taken place Tuesday morning then they can deny the meeting as the allegation was wrong about the time.

[no meeting], as [alleged] by the New York Post, [ever] took place”

The extra word “ever” isn’t needed but has been included in an attempt to convince, it also signals sensitivity to time. They spoke of the “schedules from [the] time” which is specific, but by later using the unnecessary word “ever” they seek to stretch that time to infinity.

In conclusion we see that there is no denial that Joe Biden met the official.

Missing Stephanie Hollingsworth.

Snipped articles:

The husband of a missing Belle Isle woman and his immediate family have been ruled out as persons of interest in her disappearance, police said Thursday.

Scott has been (exceedingly) cooperative with us throughout the investigation and has supplied all the information requested by detectives,” Belle Isle police said in a statement Thursday.

...

Hollingsworth pointed out that that it was uncharacteristic for his wife to be away for such a long period of time without any contact with anyone.

Stephanie has never gone away. She was home every night. She would never want to be away from her family; that is why I feel something happened beyond her control at a vulnerable moment. I feel she is in danger,” he said.

Stephanie is very active in the women’s ministry and many of the young girls looked up to her, Hollingsworth said, describing her as a person with “all heart” that people were just drawn too.

"Stephanie has an amazing glow about her," he said. "Everyone was magnetized by her. She was always so positive and gave everything she had to everyone."

Stephanie has battled alcohol addiction most of her life, and over the last few months, but her drinking seemed to escalate recently, he said.

“Stephanie has had a lifetime dealing with anxieties and depression, just dealing with life and using alcohol as a way to escape. She gave everything she had to everyone, but she had internal battles that were real,” he said. “I want to make this public and make people understand that it is so hard to get people to talk about this, since many feel it is taboo. The video shows she did buy some alcohol and I have no idea why she did that and I want people to just stay focused on finding her.”

"She always carried so much guilt and shame about this but everyday when she woke up, it was a new start and I never carried anything into the next day," he said.

Scott has been ruled out as a POI. This can change, however going by what LE have said its doubtful at this moment.

Question:

Was there an argument on the morning his wife left?

In the link below Scott gives an interview on camera.

Please note I dont know if he is responding to a question when he begins talking.

Note what's in the said negative. Note a need to persuade all things were good that morning.
Note the words "normal" and "common"

I must emphasise again was he asked a question? "What was that morning like? Did the interviewer introduce the word "normal". Did the interviewer ask if there was an argument? Etc etc... if not, I suggest there may have been an argument, (possible about her drinking or something else) before she left.

“Was there an argument on the morning his wife left?”

Yes it’s a good question to ask -

"[She always carried] so much guilt and shame about [this] but everyday when she woke up, [it] was a new start and [I never carried] anything into the next day," he said.

Where does Stephanie’s guilt and shame come from? The pronouns change from “She” always carried to “I” never carried. The husband reveals he was carrying something as well, and he says in the negative “I never carried anything into the next day”. There was something going on which the husband wants the listener to know was never carried on into the next day. His use of “never” shows sensitivity to time and it is connected to the “next day”.

Maybe she’s in jail somewhere having been stopped for drunk driving and provided someone else’s information. Or maybe she got into a car accident and ran off the road and her car is somehow concealed from view.

Search for missing Belle Isle woman presses on 3 weeks after disappearance

Oct 16, 2020

On the day she disappeared, Scott Hollingsworth said he initially assumed his wife was out running errands, but grew worried when she didn’t return home that night. She took her purse and wallet but left her cell phone at home, which wasn’t uncommon.

“She kind of worked at 100 miles an hour,” he said. “Run and go, that’s how she was. She was very high-energy.”

He later found a backpack full of belongings that she had packed, which led him to believe she had checked herself into a mental health facility.

“She was a fighter. She was prepared to heal herself,” he said.

He also thought she might have been at the yoga studio that day. Weeks later, he now believes his wife of almost 25 years headed east on Narcoossee Road toward Lake Nona, based on reported sightings.

SUV found underwater with body inside belongs to missing Belle Isle mother, police say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County investigators said they are still waiting for confirmation that a body inside an SUV discovered in a local pond; is that of missing Belle Isle mother Stephanie Hollingsworth.

Hollingsworth, 50, was last seen Sept. 25 at her Monet Avenue home near Hoffner Avenue and South Conway Road.

The SUV was discovered fully submerged in water Saturday near Story Time Drive and Dowden Road, not far from Innovation Middle School.

Police said the SUV was found by civilian drone pilots who were assisting with the search for Hollingsworth.

Crews pulled the SUV out of a retention pond Saturday night.

Police said its license plate matches the one on the vehicle Hollingsworth was last seen driving.

Hollingsworth was last seen on surveillance video at a Walmart off South Goldenrod road last month.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am reminded of Bill Clinton's denials of sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky hinging upon his definition of "sexual relations".

How does Biden define "meeting" as opposed to "A Meeting"? Must they sit at a table? Would a walk in the park with his son and son's coworker be a "Visit"? A "Meeting"? And is "meeting" someone, but not "having a Meeting" with them possible?

Her own father sounds cold. He addresses her formerly using her full name and fails to write directly to her. The police taking some items that are customarily used for DNA are a cause of worry for him. He capitalized the word toothbrush. In SCAN referencing brushing teeth appears when there’s something to do with abuse. He shares blame; WE are Both worried. I think he’s sharing blame with Bernadette’s mom. Forgetting about the other relatives. He also minimizes her, tragically, and is unable to write in actual words. Expected would be, We miss you Bernadette.

The police have Both of Them.

U should try analyzing the statements.

What is unexpected is that Bernadette’s parents have not turned on one another. It makes me wonder. They are guilty of having many disabled babies, possibly asking Bernadette to help by being a baby sitter. Except she was going to college. The only statement about what happened is the one where Both parents say she ran out of the car. It’s very strange. To arrest and charge her parents with murder, the police must have many statements where they implicated themselves. And those statements are not available online.

Bernadette Walker
Bernadette Walker pictured on the left of both photos, but most recently on the left image, has been missing since Saturday (photo: Bernadette's family)
Bernadette Walker, 17, jumped out of her parent's car in Skater's Avenue, Walton on Saturday and was was reported missing on Monday, her mum explained.

The distraught mum said she was wearing black leggings, with a black crop top and a denim jacket at the time of her disappearance.

She may have changed into a black dress and some fishnets as these were found to be missing from her home.

The family had assumed she was staying with a friend but when they realised this was not the case they contacted police and now they are urging anyone who knows of Bernadette's whereabouts to contact Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

They later found the dress and black stockings under her bed. Did her mum then imply there was the possibility she may have returned home and changed clothing? Lord! I wish police interviews were published!!!!

It was a very normal day. A very normal morning.

Looking at the section below -

“So, no, there’s no arguments, nothing, nothing to that extent that would, ah lead her to leave in in in ah in that moment.”

We don’t know the question he was asked, but this part of his answer points to it being related to “where there any arguments that day?” or something similar. We know that because he says the word “no” signalling him answering something in the negative. This means his answer did not start with addressing the question directly, suggesting it is sensitive to him. We see he talks of a “somewhat normal morning” etc… which leads up to his use of the word “So” (highest sensitivity). The words before were to explain/justify the words that followed.

“[So], no, there’s [no arguments], [nothing], [nothing] to that [extent]”

He uses “there’s” (there is / there has) which in context of his statement moves him into present tense when telling us what there wasn’t. Expected would be “there was” or “there were” no arguments. After saying no arguments he repeats the word “nothing” twice showing sensitivity and then says “to that extent”. Here there is deception indicated as he uses the word “extent” which is a word used to describe an amount. In this statement it is used to minimise something, and there has to first be something in order for it to be able to be minimised. If there were no arguments there would be nothing to be minimised and the word “extent” would not enter his language.

“that would, ah lead her to leave in in in ah in that moment.”

We see transmission problems on the word “in” (repeated x3) leading up to word “moment”. Note he doesn’t just say “lead her to leave” but includes extra information – “in that moment”. This reveals he is thinking of a particular “moment” but he wants us to believe that there was “nothing” that would have caused her to leave then.

If you're talking, you are keeping our daughter relevant and that is all that matters to us. I ask all you parents to hug your kids a little tighter tonight, tell them you love them, and thank God for the blessings of your children. PLEASE KEEP SHARING, POSTING, AND WATCHING OUT FOR OUR BABY GIRL! We love you Aurora, we want you home, we want you safe, there is so much love surrounding you mija, please come home! #BringAuroraHome

Does the latter over rule the former? Do we take into account the behavioural issues and Mum is warning people what she maybe like if they come across her?

Apologizing in advance for the O/T, but I have a question I'm hoping someone with a better understanding of Statement Analysis can answer. This statement bothers me and I'm not sure exactly why.

Breonna Taylor's live-in boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, shot Police Officer Jonathan Mattingly in the leg when Police breached their apartment door. Kenneth Walker, in police statements, said the police announced themselves.

Kenneth Walker with CBS Gayle King last week: “I never thought it was the police,” he said. “Because why would the police be coming here?"

According to court documents, Breonna was in fact receiving packages and mail (like bank statements and bills) for her former convicted drug-dealer boyfriend at her apartment. According to that former boyfriend, she was also handling/keeping his money for him. So my thinking is "Why wouldn't the police be coming there?"-I mean your girlfriend is clearly involved in some aspect with the convicted drug-dealer ex to be getting his packages and mail and clearly the guy or one of his runners is picking the packages and mail up or she's getting it to him somehow. Kenneth Walker doesn't dispute the Breonna was getting packages or the guy's mail; nor did he seemed surprised or upset by that activity at all.

My OT, re Aurora Rodriguez-Sambrano missing.

Answer to my question, the principle of the expected was correct. And a fine example, too.

Mum: "not knowing where she is, not knowing if she's eating, if she's cold, if she's thirsty, the millions of thoughts and scenarios going through our minds are so damn scary!"

COMMUNITY INFORMATION
**Runaway - Missing, Returned**

Aurora Rodriguez-Sambrano, who had been previously reported as a run-away - missing juvenile has been located/returned.

Given the nature of the report, this is what we can share about the case.

This statement bothers me and I'm not sure exactly why.

Because in all likelihood he is fully aware of the drug activity thus the gun and shooting at the police. It may bother you because the repercussions of him shooting at the police resulted in many riots where people died and countless damage to property occurred. And the death of his girlfriend.

Kenneth Walker with CBS Gayle King last week: “I never thought it was the police,” he said. “Because why would the police be coming here?"

I NEVER THOUGHT. He shot without thinking. They were living a dangerous life and his girlfriend was laundering drug money and providing an address for a drug dealer. IT WAS THE POLICE. He realized this too late. Explanation. BECAUSE. They were not the trap house? WHY WOULD THE POLICE BE COMING HERE? Doing their job to protect the community from drug dealers and their associates.

I think he heard the police identified themselves and thought it was another bad guy drug dealer or criminal who was seeking entrance by saying “it’s the police open up” or “it’s KPD open the door” and he didn’t believe it to be authentic. Otherwise why when he thinks back to that horrible moment does he recall wondering “why would the police be here”.

It’s a gotcha. I’m glad it bothered you Foolsfeedonfolly

So, thinking through both my question and Kenneth Walker's statement ("I never thought it was the police. Because why would the police be coming here?")...and I have more questions.

1.Can you tell an interviewer what you "never thought"?
He did not say "I didn't know it was the police." or "I didn't know who it was."
In his police statements, Kenneth Walker had already stated that police did announce
themselves.

2.If he "never thought it was the police.", so who did he think might be
potentially wanting to break down his door?
He doesn't say "I never thought it was the police because we've never broken the
law or anything/even had a speeding ticket/etc." He doesn't site any of the normal
reasons most people would, if police just randomly showed up and began ramming their
door.

3.Did he expect the police to "be coming" somewhere else, instead of "here"?
"Because why would the police be coming here?"
"here", as opposed to where else, would he think police might go instead?

4. Why would you be expecting the police to go anywhere, if you had no knowledge of
what had been going on?

Am I just over-analyzing this?

Perhaps because of the initial lies and half truths that were initially made public about the botched raid. There was emphasis on the phrase “no knock warrant “, and it wasn’t reported that the police did indeed identify themselves.
