Lifted from Websleuths:

Timeline published by KGET on December 24th-

Monday, early evening — Orson and Orrin play outside as their adoptive father gathers firewood, according to their adoptive parents. The father, Trevol West, later tells the media he briefly went back inside the house, and when he came out the boys were gone. He says he drove through nearby streets and spoke with neighbors but couldn’t find them.
Monday, around 6 p.m. — The boys’ adoptive parents report them missing.
Monday, around 8 p.m. — California City police send out a news release that provides a description of the boys but not their names or photographs. That information is released hours later.
Monday night — Volunteers and police search areas near where the boys went missing. Police bring K9s to the home. The dogs find the boys’ scent inside the house, but not outdoors.
Tuesday, around 9 a.m. — With daylight, volunteers continue the search and spread through the surrounding area. They find nothing.
Tuesday afternoon — Police take the adoptive parents in for further questioning.
Tuesday night — Armed with a search warrant, investigators go through the home and leave with evidence collected in several brown bags and a duffel bag. The adoptive parents’ van is towed to be searched. Police tell 17 News the FBI is involved and agents questioned the adoptive parents. Police say the parents are cooperating.
Wednesday afternoon — The adoptive parents speak with media. Trevol and Jaqueline West say they were told by police Monday to stay in their home during the search. Trevol West explains how the boys went missing, and the couple say they fostered the boys in 2018 then adopted them in 2019. They say they have two other adopted children and two biological children, all of whom have been removed from the home since the investigation began. The couple say their cellphones and other technological devices were seized by police.
Wednesday afternoon — Police search the home again.
Wednesday night — Investigators work under bright lights set up in the family’s backyard. It’s unclear what, if any, evidence was found

Adoptive father speaking of toddlers' disappearance:

"That's when everything played out. "

Surely this is a strange thing to say.

1/2.

A rough transcript some of which drowned out by noise etc but this should be OK as a starter for 10. There are some concerning things emerging from this already, not least their inability to answer when they made contact with the police.

Him:

OK Oh

It was cold. I was going to make a fire
There's a lot of wood in this .. this area here next to our house.
I opened up the back gate. I'm throwing wood, brining it inside the house.
My wife's inside. She was actually wrapping gifts so we thought it would be a good idea
they .. that our youngest two were outside and play with [charcoal..] the back patio.
Do not let them go in the dirt in the back yard.
Keep them close.
Playing with ??? came in the house
Saw them there, [went] in the house.
I came back out
I didn't see 'em there.
I .. immediately went back in.
Asked my wife, did she see the boys?
She said no.
They should be outside playing with [???]
I said .. well .. I didn't see 'em.
So I came back outside and I started searching my back yard.
I searched the whole [???]
I realised that I left the gate open and I panicked, came inside the house, searched the house me and my wife.

Once that .. that didn't pan out I got in the van, I looked down the street, both directions, it was getting dark, getting cold, I got in my van and I had a bunch of [corners?].
I went down this street, I turned my light on, I searched, I searched I called their names.
Talked to a gentleman on the street on the side over there he didn't see them.
So then I came home and I told my wife we need to call the cops.
It's getting dark and we need help we gotta get goin.
So I called the cops
Cops came.
First thing they did was tell us to stay in the house so they could get hold of us.
And they had us just sitting there and we want to keep searching but everybody came up in droves and I wanted to thank you guys that night when we couldn't go outside

2/2. The remainder of the transcript:

Her:

The cops told us the best are out here.

Him:
The best are out searching and we appreciate it and nobody ever could never talk to anybody and that was the issue.

Her:
We just want to thank everybody.

Him:
We really want to thank you guys.

Her
Any please if anybody has ever seen them please call (shakes head), let somebody know

Him:

If .. if you call the cops, call telephone your city police department.
Call them and let them know what you seen, if you seen anything.
Our boys .. they .. they are going to be [pause] rambunctious, OK.
UUUHGH!
They are going to be here, in this area.
And I would really would like to go in the houses, but it's not because I want to invade people's privacy.
I just want to know if they .. make sure, that's it.

Reporter: [accusation of foul play]

Her: That's understandable.
Him: That's understandable. I would feel the same.
And that's exactly the point. If we could find our babies then guess what, that's no. That's all I want is to find our babies, that's it.

And I talked to her this morning and I really wanted to tell her uh that I am completely sorry because we were [unadible]

And they came to us, and they became our children and we named 'em.
And they are our children.
So, we want 'em back.
So please if y'all .. could get back on your what you guys are doing.
We should we should be able to get hold of somebody but they took all of our [???] so they wanted to I guess uh just rule us out which makes sense, that a part of the investigation.

Reporter: Asks about how did they get a search warrant.

Him:

I don't see why they got one, but they got one.
We'll let 'em take anything.
We woulda let 'em come in and search with us.

We asked 'em to come do that.

Reporter: What did they take?

Him:

Just tech.
And that's it.

Like out phones.

Her:

We, seriously thought like we need to be out here, we did. Again (shakes head) we were the best are looking already. Just to stay put. They have more questions. It was literally a [cop???] with us the whole time in there

Him:

We should know we got the best out there.

Reporter: At what time did you notice your kids were missing and when did you report it to the police?

It's about, I believe [sigh], I think it was about 4:30 it was getting dark like I said.

That's about it. That's when everything played out.

Reporter: And when did you guys call the police to report them missing?

Him: I don't..
Her: (interrupts)

After we searched a little bit around here...
Him: Yeah

Her: it was dark so we definitely [we got worried?]

"I'm throwing wood" Hit them in the head with logs? Buried them under a pile of wood?

"Played with charcoal" Were they throwing charcoal at each other, and one or both got injured?

Interviewer: Hey guys, everyone ready?

Father: I’m ready

Mother: Uh, , we just want to thank everyone in the community for all the support we’ve seen - we’ve felt so helpless - and seeing everybody out here really looking and helping out really means a lot.

Interviewer: So, tell us what happened the night those kids went missing.

Father: O-kay

Mother: [From my yard?]

Father: O-kay - okay. It was cold. I was going to make a fire. There’s a lot of wood in this-s area right here next to our house. I opened up the back gate, I’m throwing wood, bringing it inside the house. My wife’s inside - she was actually wrapping gifts and we thought it was a good idea that they - that our youngest two - go outside ‘n play with chalk on the back patio. Do not let them go on the dirt in the backyard ‘n keep them close. They’s playing with chalk. Came in the house - I saw them there - went in the house - I came back out, I didn’t seem ‘em now. I - immediately went back in, asked my wife, “Did you see the boys?”
She said, “No, they should be outside playing with chalk.”
I said, “ […] I didn’t see ‘em.”
So I came back outside, and I started searching my backyard, I searched the whole [ o’this area?]. I realised that I left the gate open and - I panicked, came inside the house, searched the house, me and my wife. Once that hadn’t panned out, I got in the van, I looked down the street in both directions, and it’s getting dark, getting cold, and I got in the van and I had a bunch of cornets, I went down this street, I turned my light on, I searched I searched, I called their names, talked to a gentleman on the street, on the other side over there, he didn’t see anything. So then I came home, and I told my wife, “You need to call the cops. I - it’s getting dark and I need help, we gotta get going.”
So I called the cops, cops came, first thing they did was tell us to stay in the house so they can get a hold of us, and they had us just sitting there and we want to keep searching, but everybody came out in droves and I wanted to thank you guys that night, but we couldn’t go outside.

Mother: The cops told us the best are out here

Father: The best are out here searching - and we appreciate it and nobody ever could tell - […?] could never talk to anybody, and that was the issue.

Mother: We just want to thank everybody

Father: We really want to thank you guys

Mother: And please, if anybody has seen them, please call - let somebody know

Father: If - if - call the cops - call California City Police Department. Call them and let them know what you’ve seen if you see anything. Our boys, they - they are going to be - rambunctious - okay. Arghh. They are going to be here in this area, and I really would like to go in the houses, but it’s not because I want to invade people’s privacy, I just want to know if they

Mother: Make sure

Father: make sure, that’s it. Because - oh, go ahead, I’m sorry - if you’ve got any questions

Interviewer 2: oh, no, you’re good. I was just going to say, you know, this is the first time we’re hearing from you guys and I can’t imagine what you guys are going through, I can’t even fathom it. Um, for you guys, for people who are thinking that there’s some kind of foul play involved, um, you know, we just spoke to the biological mother- she says she had a conversation with you guys and that she thinks there’s some kind of foul play involved - she thinks you guys did something

Mother: That’s understandable

Interviewer: What’s your response to that?

Father: That’s understandable - I would think the same thing.
Mother: Yeah.
Father: I mean - that’s exactly the point, and we need to - to find our babies - and guess what? That’s - that’s no. And that’s all I want is to find our babies, that’s it. And I talked to her this morning, and I really wanted to tell her that um I’m completely sorry because we were entrusted with her children, and they came to us and they became our children. We named ‘em. And they are - they are our children, and so we want em back. So please, if y’all could get back on your - what you guys are doing, we will - we should, we should be able to get hold of somebody but they took all of our texts, so - they wanted to, I guess, uh, just rule us out, which makes sense, as a part of the investigation - so, that’s pretty much it.

Interviewer: Have you guys, um, you talked to the police all last night?

Mother: Yes.

Interviewer: Um, what - so you guys wilfully gave them your technology

Mother: Everything

Father: Yes!

Interviewer: The car?

Father: Yes!

Interviewer: Did they get a - how did they get a search warrant- did you guys - ?

Father: I - I - I don’t see why they got one, but they got one.

Mother: They didn’t need one.

Father: We would’ve let them take anything, we would’ve tell them take everything. We let them come in and search with us - we, we asked them to come do that.

Interviewer: What did they take?

Father: Just tech - and that’s it. Like our phones.

Interviewer: From the house?

[Inaudible - a few seconds]

Father: Okay. I guess - I don’t even know

Mother: I see - yeah, we seriously felt like we needed to be out here, we did. Again, we were told the best are out here looking already, just to stay put - they have more questions. There was literally a cop with us the whole time - in there.

Father: He had us sitting down. We would ask him to go help, they had us sit down.
Mother: He said “No.”
Father: He said, “No, we got the best out there. We need you guys here in case we have more questions.”
Mother told: I don’t want you guys thinking we didn’t try. We actually looked
Father: We tried.
Mother: before we called police.
Father: We looked [....?]

Interviewer 2: I imagine the mind boggling part is the search for information- what happened, where are they?

Father: Yes.

Interviewer 2: Etcetera, etcetera.

Father: Yeah.

Interviewer 2: And just so we are able to present the information correctly, at what time did you guys notice your kids went missing, and at what time were they reported missing to the police?

Father: It was about - I believe - I think it was about four-thirty going on five - it was getting dark like I said.

Mother: Fiveish.

Father: Fiveish. That’s about it. That’s the way everything played out.

Interviewer 2: and when did you guys call the police to report them missing?

Father: I don’t

Mother: After we searched

Father: Yeah

Mother: A little bit around here we - it was dark so we definitely were - we got worried, really
