There are hours of time "missing". Rehearsal was at 10:30, so he had to leave before then. And he said he left from rehearsal, not early, but "so early". So did that get him home before lunch? Did he take the kids and dog to the park right away when he got home and if so, that is a long time to spend at the park with two kids under two. No lunch and at 1:39, it would be time for the kids' afternoon nap.

I can understand that area being quiet on a Sunday morning. But by 1:39, wouldn't people be up and about? Gemma said she came from the retail park and arrived even before first responders or air ambulance. So there has to be activity around the area. Not that a father walking his kids and dog to/from the park would be extraordinary. But if there was a man running around swearing followed by a vehicle crashing into a wall, wouldn't someone have see and/or hear this? I took it to mean that there was only bench seating (no back seat) in his truck.

In any event, if there is only one set of car seats in her car, why would he not just take her car. Is this why he is is walking the kids and dog, without push car, to his mom's instead of driving? But he at one point is in the car, presumably with kids and car, although he does not report buckling anyone in.

I'm not familiar with Ireland's traffic laws. However, in N.A., it's illegal to drive with the kids not securely fastened into a car seat or bumper seat - be it a bucket seat in reverse position, or after a certain height and weight, a car seat in front position, or a bumper seat up to a certain height and weight (and age). They cannot sit in the front until they are 12 years old, let alone be without a seatbelt.Nichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09150573665283919209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7164794708270892518.post-76971174563801271082018-01-09T11:09:48.358-05:002018-01-09T11:09:48.358-05:00I don’t know Nic, I was trying to answer the analy...I don’t know Nic, I was trying to answer the analysis question

There is too much time within his account of seeing the car coming towards them and it hitting the wall - I think that would put him further from the scene than he says.

I wonder if he had left Pearl sitting on the stairs with her drum, with the front door open, while he put Ace into the vehicle. If Pearl toddled off, maybe following the dog - if he was half in the vehicle fastening in the baby when he heard the wall come down - realised Pearl was not on the stairs or in the garden, grabbed the baby and ran up round the corner to the wall. In those circumstances he would have had quite a few seconds in which to panic and swear enough for it not to be repeatable. He may have turned his head to the sound of the vehicle hitting the wall while he was leaned into the vehicle putting the baby in - someone said his body language indicated he might have been in a closet - was he perhaps leaned into to the vehicle? The lack of a pushchair makes it seem unlikely he was on his way to the park - if he was preparing to go there, that could account for him having the baby, the dog, and Pearl with him without also a pushchair.
.
What I wondered was if he left the front door open with Pearl on the stair with her drum while he was going to put Ace into the truck - if actually he intended to take them in the truck to the park - or maybe in a family car? - (can a truck accommodate two baby seats?) Pearl might have followed the dog out of the garden - he might have realised she stopped tapping the drum, looked up and seen her up by the wall just as the Range Rover rolled down, raced up with the baby in his arms, and laid the baby in the road while he pulled Pearl from under the wall. The pavement likely would have been covered in bricks, so he would have no choice but to lay the babies in the road.

If it happened that way, he would’ve had time to swear enough as he ran up to the wall, also could account for his seeming to someone upthread that he was in a closet - he could have been leaning in to the vehicle to see to the baby and seats, and looked up when he heard the impact of the Range Rover bringing down the wall. It’s difficult to make sense of why he would be out with the babies and dog and no pushchair if he were going to (or returning) from the park - a scenario like that could account for it. What say, he had looked up, and seen Pearl ‘plodding’ up the pavement after the dog, and didn’t react straight away - it was relatively quiet up there on Sundays - maybe called the dog, thinking Pearl would follow the dog back to him, but she didn’t. If it was something like that the guilt would be enormous - he might prefer to say she was right there at his knee, and that he threw his baby into the road in his desperation to save her from the fallen wall, when already she was under it. Not saying it happened that way, rather thinking round the possibilities and how what he says might be to cover for a few moments negligence.

Not SA - I don’t even hear him say that he, or Pearl, or Ace were at the grandmother’s house - not to say they were not, but he skips time and doesn’t make clear if actually they were.

He and Gemma reportedly live in a bungalow, also on Heolgerrig - bungalow, no stairs. Maybe a dormer bungalow, though which do have stairs. Or misreporting - though if they also live on Heolgerrig, it would account for Gemma saying she shouldn’t have been on Heolgerrig, she shouldn’t have been here. It’s a long long street, they might live half a mile or more from the grandmother. Must be some distance, to take the truck rather than walk. The impression she was at his mother's house is created by his saying she likes to tap a drum on the step when she is at his mother’s house. He did not say he took Pearl or Ace to his mother's house - he says 'jumped in the truck'.

I think this is where the dog/the behaviour of the dog (to heel) is sensitive in Paul's mind. The way Paul presents what happened that day, the dog is "well trained" to heel. All he has to do is click his fingers. But he is also lumping Pearl in with "listening" to his command/responding to his command. i.e., to heel and "sit" or "stay" (on the bottom step).

When at her grandmother's, Pearl knows she is to sit on the (bottom) step. She has a drum she taps while she sits on the bottom step. This is how she is "trained" to behave when outside at her paternal grandmother's. (Probably her grandmother can "hear" that she is on the step and if the drumming stops, she knows Pearl has moved?) Since the grandmother does not have a gate, then safety is an issue while Pearl is outside at her paternal grandmother's.

Paul is clear about his regret of not letting Pearl sit higher on the stairs. But whose stairs? He doesn't say Pearl was sitting on his grandmother's step that day. He just reports what she is "trained" to do and the result (she "stays"). Do they have a drum for her to tap when sitting on the bottom step at home? If the accident happened at home, was because he employed Pearl's "behavioural training" used when at grandma's house with the expectation she would behave the same way? (That she would "stay"?). Would he be able to "see" Pearl on the bottom step from the cab of his truck with a rambunctious dog wanting to go to the park for his morning run? It sounds like Paul was afraid she would fall and hurt herself from a higher step (reference the "what if" regret he articulates if he had let her sit higher up.) hence is gave the command "no" and then went into what happens at grandma's house.

Getting the dog at Paul's mom's place comes out of the blue in the story. His mom's place is (I read up thread,) three doors away from the wall. So why would sitting on the bottom step at his mom's place, three houses away from the scene, put Pearl in proximity to the falling wall? There is no movement from the grandmother's bottom step to the accident scene. But he had to have a reason to be at his mum's ("to get Rolla, his boxer dog"). The dog didn't do anything wrong. The dog listens to "daddy".

It's easy to verify whether Paul left early from rehearsal. I think it would have been reported otherwise and he would be under investigation had he lied about leaving early from rehearsal or not showing up at all.

Does Paul know his mom's neighbour's? Does he know the house occupant who owns that car? Have there been prior incidents of run away cars? If Pearl died at home, then it's sounds like a quite an ordeal to coordinate/orchestrate in such a short period of time, on his/their own.

Nichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09150573665283919209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7164794708270892518.post-37395764822918759392018-01-09T06:13:58.961-05:002018-01-09T06:13:58.961-05:00Analysis Question: Does he reliably report what h...Analysis Question: Does he reliably report what happened to Pearl, or is there more to the account in which he is not reporting?

----

There is much missing information, and he does not reliably report what happened to Pearl.
Pearl is not reliably placed at his mother's house - neither is he.
He does not say that the wall fell on Pearl, or that he saw the wall fall on her - rather he says, ''the vehicle then hit the wall' - 'the wall came down' - 'the wall snatched' and 'the wall took her from me' . I think his descriptions there are passive sounding.

---

He said to the writer of the play that Pearl wanted him to take her to the park, he also said he wanted to get to the park with her - he didn't say that he was actually going to take Pearl to the park, only that was what she, and he, wanted. I wonder was it an excuse to leave early?

He said to Gemma to have her ready, and he would take her 'with him' - it sounds as if he was intending to go somewhere in addition to the park, and he would take Pearl with him, rather than that going to the park was the priority and reason for coming home early.

"Came home, Gem had her ready - Peppa coat, Peppa wellies, Peppa jeans, the works. Jumped in the truck - off up to my mum’s to get Roller, my boxer dog" - by the lack of pronoun he doesn't commit himself to coming home, jumping in the truck or going off up to his mum's to get his dog - he does not say if Pearl and Ace were with him.

He says she (Pearl?) went to climb the stairs and he said no. He did not say he took Pearl or Ace to his mother's house - he says 'jumped in the truck'.

He absents himself here also: ‘um, realised there was nobody in it, let her hand go, and grabbed her coat,’ - it's unreliable.

Hey Judehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05118508358051764200noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7164794708270892518.post-24399226303036809932018-01-09T04:11:44.025-05:002018-01-09T04:11:44.025-05:00I said take her to the park

Seeing the driveway the car rolled-down from it seems like a very steep hil, also the road of the scene lays on a hill, so if the handbrake would not have been set good enough, or be worn out (because of age, 17 years),and somehow snapped.
That's why it would be intresting to know how the car was found.
https://goo.gl/maps/QKBQTKFia9B2

There is a difference between standard and automatic. In an automatic car, if the emergency break failed (which forensics reported it did not) then the automatic transmission still ensures that the car will not move. You literally have to put the key in the ignition of an automatic car and start it before you are able to shift the gear out of park to move the vehicle. Park position locks the transmission, so shifting out of park unlocks the transmission enabling the wheels to move. But you must have the key to turn on the car, first, in order to unlock the transmission.

Having said that, I found this (if you don’t have blocks, you could always use the emergency brake!):

https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080813113552AAhRa1l

Best Answer: get under the car after blocking the wheels so it wont roll find the trans theres a cable running to the side of the trans with whats going to look like a switch and a lever dis conect the cable and push the lever till it clicks twice then push away this will put the truck in nultruale then once u get it where u want it push the lever in to park agean and atach the cable
Source(s):
i am a heavy diesel mechanicfor the army
have run tow truck and recovery trucks and repos and impounds with out keysNichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09150573665283919209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7164794708270892518.post-4033590867649769952018-01-08T23:51:10.711-05:002018-01-08T23:51:10.711-05:00Paul's story is bullshit. There is zero animation or dialogue from Pearl.
