I know you are speaking of little Noah; my advice would be to ask your question on Peter's latest blog--the one he wrote today. It is more likely to be seen there.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7164794708270892518.post-29482831046012694352016-01-20T22:15:31.858-05:002016-01-20T22:15:31.858-05:00What does it denote of parents and extended family...What does it denote of parents and extended family when they absolutely refuse to address the public through media and only use members of their family ie aunt, cousin. There is a missing child in the area I live in. His parents and grandparents ( the maternal grandmother was the last to see her 2 yr old grandson). Theynonly allow msgs of their gratitude toward the volunteer sesrchers and authorities through facebook post on different pages. This behavior has caused extreme back lash from the community at large. The general consensus is they ( mom and grandmother) know more than they are telling. Anything the subject says is worthy...Hi Skeptical.

Anything the subject says is worthy of analysis, they are telling us what is on the forefront of their mind at that moment.

Often we see the subject saying i'm innocent of all these charges, i'm not guilty of doing what they said.

They are technically speaking the truth but not for the reason we think or rather they want us to think.

Until they are found guilty in a court of law, they are technically innocent of said charges.
What we look for is the first person, past tense , event specific denial. I didn't/did not do whatever is alleged.

If they can't say it, i can't say it for them.
Another ppopular claim is my lawyers have advised to say nothing, i will have my say in court, the police have advised not to talk or any other version of delaying the reliable denial.

Innocent people will shout their innocence from the roof tops, they have no fear of retribution, they did nothing and will lose nothing by declaring their innocence. Their innocence will have no comeback on them.

Guilty people however don't want to answer the allegations, they won't or can't make a reliable denial, they say nothing because their lawyers know the truth and want to stop anything incriminating or bad to come out. Depending on the crime, other victims may come forward or witnesses may say hang on, i know different.

A recent case here in the UK was stuart hall was facing child sex charges, he did the whole i'm innocent, they are lying etc blurb. The media said he was vehemently denying it, i was saying no he isn't he's guilty as charged. Come the trial he admiited the victims were right and he was guilty. Since then they left one rape charge on file and he now faces further rape charges. The same with jimmy saville, no strong denial and blaming the victim and now we know he was a paedophile and rapist. Max clifford has also gone down the i'm innocent road, he too is guilty or will be found guilty.

With the mccanns we have them telling us Maddie is dead with kate saying all togeather, if Maddie was alive they couldn't all be togeather, kate talking about a murder not an abduction , gerry talking about the night we found her and their involvement in her death ( not disappearance then?) listen to what they say not, what you think they are saying. it can be a huge difference :)
Tania Cadoganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06511272355142175684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7164794708270892518.post-37280434252833091782013-04-13T21:47:05.541-04:002013-04-13T21:47:05.541-04:00Red Ryder-

Neither "i'm innocent "...Hi Skeptical! Neither "i'm innocent " nor "I'm not guilty" are reliable denials as they do not meet the 3 criteria of first person, present tense and event specific e.g. "i did not steal the company car." I'm not sure if that's what you were getting at but there you go:) Also, a person could say they were innocent even while on trial as legally they are until found liable. I think I'm not guilty is unreliable because guilty is an emotion or a state of being rather than a report of whether or not you did something, not a verb. One could commit murders, say in the name of a cause, and truly believe they are not guilty. They also may feel they are right and justified, not guilty. I think 'I'm innocent' is unreliable to. They both refer to how you View your actions rather than whether or not you actually physically did something.
Really good question, looking forward to Peter's response. In reading "Defending Jacob" by William Landay, a former district attorney, he said that a jury can only say that a person is not guilty. It cannot say they are innocent. Does this nuance of language show up in Statement Analysis?

(Two cases came immediately to mind.

1. Casey Anthony was declared not guilty. The jury did not say she was innocent.
2. One of the books premises is the "warrior gene". Some people may be genetically predisposed to kill.
