The Hailey Dunn Hoax Tonight on Crime Wire

Billie Jean Dunn wants media attention.  She said this in August of this year.

I have been sent transcripts of online conversations, including question and answer, regarding the mother of missing 13 year old, Hailey Dunn, and her accomplice, Shawn Adkins.

In this exchange, Dunn leads her followers to believe that she has a new boyfriend, and is living in fear of Shawn Adkins.

Without saying they broke up, she says he "hasn't been an issue for months."

What is she doing?  Crime Wire gets some answers here

Followers are hopeful that Billie Dunn will now "give up" Adkins, as the 'lone suspect' in the disappearance of Hailey.

Don't bet on it.

It is not going to happen.

Billie Dunn is not going to turn in Shawn Adkins for arrest.

This is the hope of most observers.

Hailey Dunn was last seen in late December, 2010, when she was reported missing, according to a script, by her mother, Billie Dunn.

Hailey's mother, Billie Jean Dunn, appeared on the Nancy Grace Show of which analysis can be found here and her own words can guide you as Nancy Grace asked her, "What happened?"

Billie Dunn loved the spotlight and hung tough for 10 appearances on the show, each one more difficult than the preceding. Her lies not only unfolded, but her methodology of deception became apparent.  Nancy Grace began, with her guests, sympathetic of the mother, but suspicious of answered questions in which Billie Dunn deflected or avoided, causing Grace to follow up with more questions.  Finally, Nancy Grace said it was like "pulling teeth" trying to get Billie Dunn to give a straight answer.

There is one reason why Billie Dunn will not throw Shawn Adkins under the bus, and tell police what she knows.

Tonight on Crime Wire, we will cover this hoax and the seeking of media attention by the mother of Hailey Dunn.

Did they break up?

Is she afraid of him?  Is he really stalking her?

Did he act alone in Hailey's disappearance or did they act together?

Tonight, 9PM EST

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A defense lawyer for a South Dakota woman charged under the state's new child death reporting law says it's unconstitutional because it violates his client's right against self-incrimination.

It's one of the first attempts to question the validity of the new child death reporting laws that have been passed by several state legislatures following the high-profile death of 2-year-old Caylee Anthony in Florida.

Laurie Cournoyer and her husband, Taylor Cournouyer, 21, are charged with failing to notify police of the death of a 2-year-old girl found in a closet at their rural South Dakota home. They also face five counts of child abuse and drug charges. The Cournoyers are accused of using sleeping pills, methamphetamine and marijuana during the day and a half in July when the child's death still hadn't been reported.

They are the first people charged under a South Dakota law passed earlier this year that says a parent, guardian or caretaker who knowingly fails to report a child's death within six hours could face a felony charge punishable by up to five years in prison. It was modeled after Florida's "Caylee's Law," which was passed following the death of Caylee Anthony, who wasn't reported missing until 31 days after she vanished in 2008 in Orlando.

An 11-year-old boy also has been charged in the South Dakota case. Details of his alleged involvement are not being released because he is a juvenile.

Scott Swier, the lawyer for Laurie Cournouyer, 29, said in a motion he gave to The Associated Press ahead of its filing that he is asking the charge of failing to notify law enforcement be dismissed.

In the motion, Swier said the charge should be dismissed because it violates the fifth amendment. Swier planned to file the motion and a memorandum in support of it in Charles Mix County Court on Tuesday.

The law "presents a defendant with the proverbial choice between `a rock and a hard place' - either incriminate herself or commit a crime for failing to do so," the memorandum in support of the motion says.

According to police affidavits, Laurie Cournoyer had a difficult time recalling recent events and the last time she had seen the toddler. At one point when questioned about the exact time, she said, "Maybe it was yesterday, I don't know." She could not recall who had placed the toddler in the closet.

A spokeswoman for South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley was not immediately available to comment on Swier's challenge.

I am not sure why he is posting on both sites, it could be something as simple as he signs in and goes to the old one by default and then after having several coffees goes oopsie :)

If she has a new boyfriend and is in fear of shawn then surely if she were innocent of any involvement of any crime then it would be in her interests to turn shwn in.

With murder, rape child porn etc he would be behind bars and unable to get to her. She could also turn lance in for drugs etc and same thing since neither should be able to make bail especially shawn.

She can then do the "i was a victim as well, i was so scared of him i lied to prtect myself" spiel. She would get sympathy and probably a book deal and shawn gets death.

Since though she is involved up to her back teeth, she knows if she turns on shawn he will turn on her.
"If i am going down you are coming with me"
he will say she drugged hailey and raped and abused her, she killed Hailey and forced me to dispose of the body, she was the one who got the child porn and put them on my computers etc.

They are tied to each other due to their involvement.
Like the mccanns tey can't turn the other one in because if they do they other will drag them down as well.
It is possible they have split up given shawns penchant for nubile young girls and with billie looking like a raddled slapper, she has nothing he wants any more, sex is jaded since there are no boundries to break anymore unless they get into orgies.

There is no challenege any more in his eyes, he will be looking for fresh meat, someone who he can corrupt
She with her fading looks will end up with any man who will buy her a drink or get her drugs.

This wasn't part of the plan.
They were going to be togeather forever, he at her beck and call, if she can't keep him with looks then she has murder, rape and child porn over his head.

She will do what is best for her, she will be working out her much her story is worth, possible plea deals and so on.
She knows she can't trust shawn and knows he can't trust her, she knows what she will do to save her own skin.

It is going to come down to money, when the time i right she will speak out, play the victim, do a deal and sell her story, heck maybe even the movie rights.

Peter (or anyone else)
I can't post a link but there's an interesting article in the Brattleboro Reformer entitled "Jamaica bear hounds still missing". Google it. Seems a man in rural VT claims his valuable dogs ($5000 each) were stolen while he was away for 8 minutes...not 5, not 10, but 8. According to him the GPS wearing dogs were nabbed by some master criminal who most likely saw them on Facebook and may have sold them to hunting guides in your state of Maine.

I wonder if these dogs were insured...like baby Ayla.

I wish the facebook info would be sited and not just thrown out there for the rest of is to struggle finding it. It really doesn't seem fair. If only the name of the page or its initials or something. I have always been taught to cite my sources.

From what I've read, her main concern is when "issues" arise. Even he stated, "This will all blow over soon."

Ignore it and it'll go away. Possibly true. Could explain why Hailey is no longer around.

It's understandable to be afraid if he has stated he will kill her. To be afraid he would steal something so petty that could easily be prevented by locking the door is another thing.

Not locking her doors or windows and saying she told Hailey if she stayed home by herself that day not to go outside is more than enough information. If the area was THAT BAD, she would have locked her doors in the first place. (Someone really needs to point this out to her!)

The reason information cannot be gained from her is "pointed questions" will not work.

"Didn't over there." Where is GO?

She wants to not burn bridges in case this all "blows over."

If her intentions were to tell the truth, she would not seek media attention, she would just contact LE and would tell them what she knows.
