DJ Dave Lee Travis Addresses Allegation

Did he really deny wrongdoing?

(from article) DJ Dave Lee Travis has denied any wrongdoing after being arrested by police investigating the Jimmy Savile sex abuse claims.  Has he "denied" wrongdoing?
Statement Analysis is in bold type.  The headlines always say "denies", but for us, a reliable denial is simple and consists of the words, "I didn't do it":
1.  "I"  First Person Singular Pronoun
2.  "Didn't do it" is in the past tense
3.  Event/Allegation Specific:  "I didn't molest ____" (victim's name).
The reliable denial must be in the past tense, use the pronoun, "I" and address the accusation directly.  For the innocent, this flows easily.
For the guilty, it is tough to do.
Statement Analysis gets to the truth.  An innocent person will say so, quickly, easily and will often not wait to be asked.  What someone says first, is likely a priority.  Another thing to remember:
There are no consequences, civil or criminal, to an innocent person who says, "I didn't do it."
In fact, even when an attorney tells a client not to talk about a case, when it comes to a disgusting allegation, the innocent will take a megaphone and climb to the top of his roof and tell the world, "I didn't do it!" and not say "On advice of counsel" or "I don't want to jeopardize the investigation" or "please wait for the full truth..." or any such thing.  There is no need to delay.
Speaking outside his home near Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, the 67-year-old protested his innocence and said he did not want his name associated with "bloody evil" child abuse.
He said: "This is nothing to do with kids, all right? That's the first thing. Because that to me is the most important thing in the world and I do not wish to have my name sullied around something that bloody evil, to be honest.
"The second thing I want is to say, yes, there's a complete denial there, but there's nothing else I can tell you because otherwise I might be stepping on the police's feet and I don't want to do that because it might affect their investigations."
1.  Note the open question in a statement
2.  Note that his priority is "the first thing" and this is that he does not wish to have his name sullied.
3.  Note "to be honest" indicates that there are times when he is not honest.
4.  Note the second thing comes after the first thing.  His priority is his name.  The second thing is to affirm that there is a denial, even though he does not make it, and it is because he does not want to affect the investigation.
He is unable to bring himself to say that he did not do it; therefore, we are not permitted to say it for him.
To him, the most important thing in the world is not having his name sullied, which he reports in the negative (important) and first (priority).
For someone else, the most important thing in the world is to say "I didn't do it" and express sympathy for the victim.
He is unable to bring himself to say it.
Note that the color blue is used to show the highest level of sensitivity.  Twice he needs to tell us "why" rather than "what", making it very very sensitive. (doubly)
Note that he says that there is a "complete" denial; not just a denial, but he does not say where it is found.  It is not found in his words.
The innocent say so, early, often, and without sensitivity.
Travis had previously denied allegations, made last month, that he groped two women while in BBC studios. One claimed he had put his hand up her skirt, while the other said he had "jiggled" her breasts.
The former radio One DJ told reporters today: "There's one very important point I want to get across here - when I read the papers this morning I could not believe it. It was like, you know, 'DLT caught in Savile probe' and all this.
"I'm going to make one thing extremely clear to you - the Savile probe is nothing to do with things I've been talking to the police about.
Dave Lee Travis and Aung San Suu Kyi
Burma's Aung San Suu Kyi used to listen to DLT's World Service show
"I was accused quote of squeezing the boobs of a couple of women. One, you know... and the other was somebody from 19... God knows, 67 or something, which is incredible.
"So the point I want to make here is that none of the things I've been talking to the police about, or have talked to them about, is to do with children."
He still does not deny the wrongdoing.
He added: "I am and always have been completely abhorred by anything to do with children and anything to do with child molestation and anything like that.
He sermonizes against child abuse but does not deny child molestation.
"I don't really want to be in a headline where people look and see Savile's name and see my name and think 'Oh God, is he at it as well?'
Better to say, "I didn't do it"
"Not true, all right? You have a categorical denial about children. That is absolutely set in concrete, I promise you."
He says, "you" have a "categorical denial about children" but he has not made a denial, himself.
Note "I promise you" weakens his assertion.  He continues to avoid saying "I didn't do it", and the length he appears to go to just to avoid the denial is striking.
Travis said he had willingly spoken to police and would happily continue to help them.
His comments came after his weekend radio show was taken off air "with immediate effect" by Magic AM following his arrest on Thursday.
A spokeswoman for Bauer Media, which owns Magic AM, said: "Bauer Media has decided to take (Dave Lee Travis) off air with immediate effect from his Magic AM weekend shows, which broadcast across the north of England.
"We understand that the allegations about which he was questioned by police pre-date his time as a freelance contributor to Magic AM.
"While we can make no judgement on the matters under investigation, we believe it would be inappropriate for him to broadcast until they are resolved."
It is likely that they have heard his non denial as well and made a good decision.
His answers are deceptive and he does not deny wrongdoing, as the article stated.
The Metropolitan Police have revealed they are now dealing with around 450 potential victims, the majority of whom claim they fell prey to Savile.
Officers are looking at three strands within their inquiry: claims against Savile, those against Savile and others, and those against others.
Most of the "others" allegations have been made against people associated with the entertainment industry.
Ex-glam rocker Gary Glitter, comedian Freddie Starr and a 73-year-old man have already been arrested and bailed in connection with the investigation.
A 1977 episode of Top Of The Pops featuring Travis was due to be shown on BBC4 last night but was pulled

'I told you I was innocent': Freddie Starr wants gravestone epitaph if stress of grope allegations kill him

Comic urges police to quiz him over claims he tried to grope girl in Jimmy Savile's TV dressing room

Freddie Starr has joked he wants his gravestone to read 'I told you I was innocent' if he dies from a heart attack brought on by allegations he tried to abuse a teenage girl in Sir Jimmy Savile's dressing room.

The 69-year-old made the remark as he appeared on ITV1's This Morning with his fiancee, Sophie Lea.

Fellow comedian Spike Milligan infamously had the epitaph “I told you I was ill” on his gravestone after dying in 2002.

Freddie, who looked unwell throughout the interview, said he had been suffering from heart palpitations brought on from stress and was going to hospital for a check-up later today.

He quipped: "If I do have a heart attack and die, on my gravestone will be, 'I told you I was innocent'.

In the interview he also urged police to contact him - so he can clear his name.

Freddie had denied ever meeting Karin Ward, despite a video later emerging showing them together on Jimmy Savile’s 1974 TV show Clunk Click.

Ms Ward told ITV News last week she had been “horribly humiliated by Freddie, who had a bad attack of wandering hands and groped me”.

Speaking to Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, Freddie said: "I have never, ever, groped a woman in my life.

"I want to be questioned by the police, badly."

Sophie added: "We want the police to contact us. We want the police to get involved. We want to clear Freddie's name."

Earlier in the week Freddie claimed he had been “mistaken” after footage from 1974 showed him alongside a teenage girl who claims he abused her.

On Friday, the 69-year-old comic invited reporters into his home in Studley, Warwickshire, and claimed the woman was “a nutter”, accusing her of “picking my name out of a hat”.

He said: “I’ve never touched an under-age girl in my life.

“I have never been in any situation with Jimmy Savile and Gary Glitter, and I have certainly never been with this woman.”

The comic had also insisted he only met Savile twice in his life, and had never even been to the BBC.

But he was proved wrong about never having met her, after watching 1974 footage unearthed by Channel 4 News.

Starr is seen on Savile’s BBC show Clunk Click - on the very episode Miss Ward said was being filmed the day she was abused.

Miss Ward, 14-years-old at the time with long brown hair and wearing a yellow blouse, is standing next to him.

Starr’s lawyers issued a statement admitting the mistake, but denied the “awful allegation” of abuse.

It read: “Freddie is now 69 and cannot be expected to recollect every show that he has appeared on and to remember every person that he has met.

“It would now appear from seeing footage of a Clunk Click show aired in 1974 that in fact Freddie was mistaken and therefore that he had in fact been on a Jimmy Savile show.

“However this does not detract away from the fact that Freddie vigorously denies the awful allegation that has been made by Karin Ward, which despite this footage is still totally unsupported and uncorroborated by any other evidence.”

David Travis sounds unsure and doubtful about his actions. I think he indulged in so much sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll back in the day that he is unsure of what he did. He sounds as if he hopes he didn't do anything to a child but he can't be sure beyond a shadow of a doubt.

In both cases there are no reliable denials.

I am disapointed with these two men since i enjoyed listening to them over the years, freddie always makes me giggle.

He insisted the police interviewed him and then got upset when the police took him up on his offer.

I told you i was innocent is not a reliable denial, it is as relaible as saying i told you elephants were purple with green polkadots, saying it foesn't make it so or true.

With dlt, he was djing when radio first made it big, radio 1 dj's were treated almsost as gods, who can remember the radio 1 roadshaows where thousands of people would crowd the beach.
As with anyone big in the entertainment industry there will be fans who throw themselves at their favorite celebrity regardless of their age, some even being creative about their age if it meant they could meet their hero.
It was and is up to the adult to show restraint and control, just because it is offered on a plate doesn't mean you should take it.
Lines became blurred when the celeb were barely adult themselves, drink and drugs were the accetptable and expected norm, what happened on tour stays on tour. it does not excuse the crimes.

What went on in the 60's and 70's is now coming out of the woodwork and rightly so. I fully expect a lot more entertainers to be interviewed.
I also wonder if money is playing a part in this as well?
The UK has become a litigitous society, we all see the repeated ads on tv for compensation. i wonder how many are jumping on the bandwagon because they see money of offer.
A close friend of mine knew gary glitter and his band way back in their heyday. she and friends often went round to his house and hung out.
Her story would have rung true as she could describe the various rooms, people there and so on
In her case nothing untoward happened yet her friends who know this are telling her to file a claim and make money out of it.
I listened closely as she talked about her experiences with him with my SA on full and detected no deception in her story. She told me she could never lie and make claim as she would feel guilty for doing it, it would be selling her soul, and also that she knew i would know the truth and be disappointed in her. She valued my friendship over that of her friends and making a fast buck.
It would be better for all if they came clean, if they said i did this and that, i thought they were older, i didn't ask for their birth certificates, i did wrong rather than drag it out and be found out in the long run.

Question about a strong denial. If someone uses "haven't" vs "didn't" is it still considered a good denial of accusations. Example: "I didn't cheat" vs "i haven't cheated" just curious.

Hi hobs,
Wow you brought back some memories there with the radio1 road show, happy days, well for some.it looks like all the oldies are going to be dragged in for questioning .
Don't be surprised if Tony Blackburn,Diddy David Hamilton and all those top DJs at the time become suspects.i just hope that they don't cloud the seriousness of what went on just to sell newspapers, and also your right, there is a compensation culture around, and no more so than in here good old Liverpool.
I believe the truth will out.
Also what's that all about,Jimmy savilles grave,he had two feet of concrete poured on top with re-enforced steel rods running through it,very odd.
I wonder has he took all his secrets to the grave, liiterally and there are items in his coffin to confirm his disgusting ways..IE diaries and so forth??

OT..Peter.

This has to be one of the weirdest quotes from family members of a missing child.

Check out the last two paragraphs.GLOUCESTER, Mass. (WHDH) -- The discovery of pink fabric on Good Harbor beach in Gloucester has missing 2-year-old Caleigh Harrison’s family accepting -- for the first time -- that the little girl was probably swept out to sea.
"We understand they’re most likely Caleigh’s pants and we’re willing to accept that Caleigh’s probably in the water and it’s sad but at the same time it’s going to bring the family relief to have some closure," said Melanie Pyle, Caleigh’s aunt.
William Goodwin, a retired principal, found the fabric while walking the beach like his had so many times before.
"It was bright pink. There’s not a lot of bright pink stuff that washes up in the middle of the winter. Picked it up, started untangling it, kind of realized it looked like a piece of clothing,” said Goodwin.
Though Caleigh's parents couldn't confirm it's their daughter's clothing, police say the fabric is consistent with what Caleigh was wearing.
Pyle says she and Caleigh's mother will join searchers on the beach hoping to actually find a piece of her daughter's body.
“She’s going to always question, ‘what if?’ That’s always going to be the back of her mind and I think that if we had an actual piece of Caleigh’s body that would really help us have full closure,” said Pyle

I would ask if you haven't cheated, what have you done?
What is their definition of cheating?

A strong denial is first person, event specific, past tense.
I did not cheat on my wife loobyloo.

Anything other than that warrants further questioning.
