Pop Quiz "I Wasn't Holding Anybody's Hand"

Celebrities, like politicians, are known for two things (among a few others):

a.  Bad behavior
b.  Providing Statement Analysis readers with sample.

c.  Taking themselves too seriously.

Here is George Clooney, dating one model while being seen holding hands with another, along with his denial.

What do you make of his denial?  Is this enough of a denial to call it reliable?  Is the word "anybody" used to avoid a direct denial, or is it something different, such as avoiding using the other party's name?

What is your conclusion?  He was asked about the article in a magazine (context)

Clooney said, “The story is made up.  I wasn't holding anybody's hand. Stop trying to sell magazines by creating scandal that isn't there.”

The statement is true as far as it goes. He might not have been holding the hand of "anybody". That statement does not mean that he wasn't holding the hand of the woman he was with, unless of course her given first or last name was Anybody. Then it would be reliable.

California 12-year-old accused of killing sister denies charge in court

I would have to say there's more than a 50% chance George Clooney lied another one of his big lies, based on what I know of him and his family from years past.

When he was growing up I knew him and his affluent parents, Nick & Nina, who helped hugely to steer him towards show busines, as did his Aunt Rosemary. His father Nick was also in show busines; his mother Nina was a stay-at-home mother. He came from a stable, loving, hard-working, upper-class good family and lovely home in rural Augusta, Ky, south of Cincinnati.

Beginning at an early age, George was handed every opportunity for success on a silver platter. I HEARD him say in an interview several years ago that he came from a hard life as a child. LIAR! Whoa! Wait right there, George! Liar, liar, pants on fire. This is not true and is an out and out fat lie.

You couldn't pay me to see one of his movies, I know what a liar he is. Keep lying George; I know who you are and you know who I am. Need I say more? Observer

I find this case very interesting, quite a bit to analyse too.

California 12-year-old accused of killing sister denies charge in court.

(Reuters) - A 12-year-old boy accused of fatally stabbing his younger sister in a crime that traumatized their California town denied a second-degree murder charge through his attorney in juvenile court on Wednesday, and the boy's lawyer said he planned a vigorous defense.

The boy, who is identified in court as Isaiah F., appeared in shackles and spoke only once during the proceeding in Calaveras County juvenile court when he agreed to continue to waive his right to a speedy trial.

The case has drawn widespread attention because of the age of the boy and the rare crime of killing a sister. If convicted, he could be incarcerated until his 23rd birthday. One of his lawyers, Mark Reichel, said the boy denied the charge.

"Our view of the case hasn't changed," Reichel said outside the courtroom after the hearing. "WE got in believing our client WAS INNOCENT, and as WE stand here, that's what WE BELIEVE."

Judge John E. Martin set a July 31 hearing to schedule a date for a juvenile bench trial for the tall, dark-haired boy, who looked back at his mother, father and his father's fiancée, who were in attendance at the hearing.

"We're concerned about whether or not a 12-year-old can actively participate in his own defense," Reichel said.

The boy said an intruder had slain his 8-year-old sister, Leila Fowler, on April 27, setting off a massive manhunt and paralyzing the sleepy town of Valley Springs for two weeks while police searched for a long-haired stranger.

But two weeks later, authorities arrested the brother and he was charged with second-degree murder on May 15.

The defense had planned to ask the judge to release Isaiah to his family, but Reichel said that they have left their home and have no place to care for him.

Prosecutors declined immediate comment on the case after Wednesday's hearing.

'BEAUTIFUL LITTLE GIRL'

The family's ranch house on a parched, unlandscaped lot appeared vacant on Wednesday. Bags of garbage, toy trucks, an exercise machine, a mattress, and a faded plastic slide filled the front yard. A sign saying "Welcome to the Looney Bin" sat in the weeds next to the front porch.

Neighbor Dana Wydner, who was adjusting a purple bouquet of synthetic flowers tied to a mailbox across the street, said it was a shock to learn of Leila's death and Isaiah's arrest.

"She was just a beautiful little girl, always out there playing," Wydner said. "They were good kids. They were just a NORMAL family."

Reichel has said Isaiah was suspended for five days in January for bringing a "TINY LITTLE Swiss Army knife" to school. But he was otherwise "a very NORMAL boy in a very NORMAL setting with NORMAL siblings," the lawyer said in advance of the hearing.

Isaiah and Leila lived with their father and his longtime fiancée in a blended family of seven children where money was tight, court documents and police reports show.

The records show that the father, Barney Fowler, a boat mechanic, was involved in child-support disputes with three different women, including the mother of Leila and Isaiah.

Family court records show the children's mother, Priscilla Rodriguez, was largely cut off from Leila and her brother. After the court hearing on Wednesday, she declined to comment.

Whether Rodriguez chose to keep her distance, as Fowler said in court papers seeking child-support payments, or was essentially denied access to her children by their father, as she suggests, remains unclear. She claimed in a court declaration last year to be indigent and homeless.

I do not know George Clooney's internal dictionary, as you do not.

I can summize from his adult actions that he is fearful of commitment and would rather be an activist than an actor.

Thus he may consider being "steered toward acting" as a child a hard life. I don't know...I'd have to question him personally.

Now argue and rage with yourself. That is my only comment on the matter. He may hold hands with who he wants.

You posted links to pictures from Haileys memorial on one of the other topics, asking what others thought the body language between BD,DD, and CD. I can't find the link just now. On one of the photos, BD is leaning her head and upper body away from DD, distancing herself. One of her eyebrows is raised up at the centre, down at the corner. Is this sadness? And why only on one side of her face? It struck me as odd because CD and DD look happy, they are smiling.
Can you shed any light for me? I would appreciate knowing your thoughts on the pictures.

Thanks x

Hi Malaise.

In the first photo of the 3 of them, for me what is the most revealing is the distancing between DD,and CD.There is a huge gap between them, compared to BD and DD.

I don't know why they are all looking in differant directions, what ever it is,its making them smile.(Genuine)

To me though, BD looks like she is suppressing her smile, unlike DD and CD.This maybe because of the circumstances of what is happening, she may not want to come off (insensitive).

Her head is leaning away from DD.This though,is a hard one to call.Look were CD's hand is,is she pulling away from him?

In the second photo, the gap between DD and CD is more noticeable. BD does look sad in this shot,DD and CD are smiling.

Again,look were CD's hand is,on DD's shoulder,right by BD's head.

MY take on these photo's is.The second photo as we scroll through was taken before the first one,and maybe CD's hand got a little to close to BD's head, and thats why we see her head pulling away on the first photo.?

IMHO..

"Anybody" like "somebody" doesn't reliably tell us it wasn't a particular body.
I wasn't holding any bodies hand. Not just "anybody" but somebody ?
I wasn't holding someone's hand. Not just a known person but a particular person?
I also think anybody is a stranger. Somebody is known to the subject.
I don't think anyone here meant anyone any harm.
But someone could have meant someone particular/known harm. But someone not currently here could have meant harm.

Clooney said, “The story is made up. I wasn't holding anybody's hand. Stop trying to sell magazines by creating scandal that isn't there.”

I would wonder if he said "anybody" because he wanted to reflect that he wasn't holding not just the model's hand, but no one's hand. By the same token, the accusationw as about the model's hand, which he avoided responding with her name.

Stop trying to sell magazines by creating scandal that isn't there.”
- he had the need to reduce his commitment by stating more stuff. He felt the need to explain that the magazines are being sold because they create "scandal" that isn't there. He may not feel that holding another model's hand is scandalous behavior. We would want to know what scandal is to him. Perhaps holding hands isn't and that's why he was able to state that. What we say in the negative is important. "scandal that isn't there". Maybe he had hopes of getting it on with the model and it didn't happen, so the scandal didn't occur. Maybe the model saw all those wrinkles on his neck and got grossed out.

Okay, I looked up the George Clooney thing on the net and realize I mistook the article here to be referring to a photo, whereas it was just gossip that was printed.

If I hadn't been holding hands with anyone and it was reported that I was, I think I would say "I wasn't holding hands with anybody," so I don't get too much from that. Maybe, maybe not. But if I had been holding hands with one person and not another and it was reported that I was holding the second person's hand, I would use their name. Maybe he defines "holding hands" in a particular way (ongoing for a certain amount of time, etc).

"Quit creating scandal that isn't there" is interesting, it seems to say there is scandal that IS there.

Tania Cadogan said...

Anything in the negative is sensitive, if he wasn't holding anybody's hand what was he doing?

For there to be a wasn't there has to be a was.

Anybody is used to conceal identity or gender, was the woman named in the article if so why does he use the word anybody rather than the expected name.

If the woman was named why does he conceal her identity making it sensitive, were there perhaps other persons whose hands he was holding at some point?

Why does he introduce the word scandal into his denial during the process of free editing?

If it was harmlessas dlaimed then there is no scandal to be had no matter how it is written.
There would be no reason to hide the identity of the woman in his denial, in truth if it were wholly innocent he would have no need to issue a denial at all.

It could be explained away as friends out and about, his current partner would be aware since he would have nothing to hideand giving her blessing and so on.

That he has a need to deny what was seen and probably photographed indicates a need to deceive.

When someone is deceptive they have a reason to be deceptive.

If all is innocent i would expect to hear from those involved showing a united front, no story exists all is well etc etc.

off topic

Evil' Mark Bridger was told today he would never be released from prison after he was found guilty of abducting, murdering and disposing of schoolgirl April Jones.

The judge at Mold Crown Court this afternoon gave the former abattoir worker a whole life sentence, calling him a 'pathological and glib liar', and a 'paedophile who for some time harboured sexual and morbid fantasies about young girls.'

Justice Griffith-Williams also asked him to reveal what he did with April's body for the sake of her parents Paul and Coral, who sat just feet away from him as he was jailed.

On October 1 last year Bridger snatched and murdered April, five, on the Bryn-Y-Gog estate, in Machynlleth, Powys, before 'lying through his teeth' by claiming he accidentally hit her with his car and was so drunk he did not know what happened to the body.

But after a five-week trial it took the jury just four hours to decide father of six Bridger was a fantasist, obsessed with child murder and child pornography, who had lured disabled April into his car, before killing her.

The 47 year old still refuses to reveal what he did with her body, but it is believed he burned her in his fire and dumped some of her remains in a river close to his home.

As Bridger was dragged to a waiting prison van outside Mold Crown Court to begin his life term, there were shouts of 'b******'' aimed at him from a waiting crowd.
The judge said on his laptop Bridger stored 'not only images of pre-pubescent and pubescent girls but foul pornography of the gross sexual abuse of young children' on the prowl for a child victim.
'What prompted you to live out one of those fantasies is a matter for speculation, but it may have been a combination of the ending of one sexual relationship and your drinking.

'Whatever, you set out to find a little girl to abuse. I am not sure you targeted April specifically - it was probably fortuitous that she can be seen on some of the images which you stored on your laptop of her older sister - but you were on the prowl for a young girl.
Earlier today the jury agreed there was 'overwhelming' evidence that the former abattoir worker had snatched and killed the five year old in a 'sexually motivated' attack last October.

After the sentencing Coral Jones, April's mother said: 'We are relieved that Mark Bridger has today been found guilty of the murder of our beautiful daughter April.

'April will be forever in our hearts and we are so moved by the overwhelming support we have had from so many people all over the world.'

In court earlier, a statement read on behalf of April's parents revealed they still cannot enter her bedroom at home or sort through her clothes because they are so heartbroken.

They also felt deep guilt for letting April go out to play on her bike on the evening she was abducted

Today Bridger stood in the dock as he was found guilty, he looked up to sky, trembling, with his faced screwed up, and even appeared to nod his head.

As the jury returned the guilty verdicts, April's parents Paul and Coral sat in dignified silence, holding hands.

Coral then wiped a tear from her eye while Paul put his hand to his face and wrapped his arms around April's teenage half-sister. The family, all wearing pink ribbons in memory of their murdered daughter.

Bridger is a 'cold-hearted murderer' who 'spun a web of lies and half-truths' to try to get away with his 'truly horrific' crime, prosecutors said after the verdict.

Tania Cadogan said...

Ed Beltrami, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Wales said after the verdict: 'Mark Bridger has relentlessly spun a web of lies and half-truths to try and distance himself from the truly horrific nature of the crime he perpetrated. He has refused to take responsibility for what he did to April and has stopped at nothing to try and cover his tracks.'
April disappeared as she was playing with her best friend near their homes on the Bryn-Y-Gog estate, Machynlleth, Powys, on October 1 last year.

Bridger, a former slaughterhouse worker from Ceinws, denied abduction, murder and intending to pervert the course of justice.

The child killer's refusal to confess - either to murdering April or to where he had hidden her body - forced the child's grieving parents to endure five weeks of harrowing evidence, causing her mother, Coral, to flee the courtroom on various occasions, distraught and in tears.
Bridger's heartless lies have also had a huge financial cost, with months of painstaking police searches, forensics, legal work and the money involved in providing him with security and transport to court each day of the trial costing the public as much as £9million.

During his five-week trial he repeatedly wept at Mold Crown Court as he painted himself as a man who had 'accidentally' run over a child and then panicked before blacking out due to alcohol.

He said he killed April when he accidentally 'crushed' her with his Land Rover but claimed he can't remember what he did with the body because he was drunk and panicking.

But it was all lies and it emerged:

Bridger was an impotent alcoholic who was bitter after being dumped by his girlfriend
He stalked local teenage girls on Facebook who searched for horrific images of child sexual abuse on the internet
He used the fact that five-year-old April would have known him as being the father of a girl she knew at school to lure her into his car and later kill her
Killer confessed to prison priest after his arrest that he disposed of the schoolgirl in a river, evidence kept from jury reveals
Experts said today getting Mark Bridger to crack and finally reveal what he did to April Jones could take years.

He has rigidly tried to stick to his fanciful story that he “accidentally” killed cerebral palsy sufferer April - and could not remember what he did with her.

Nottingham Trent University senior psychology lecturer Serena Simmons said: 'He clearly is deluded and has a distorted view of the world. He certainly displays this mentality of "if I keep stalling then eventually things will blow over". But that is far from the case.

'He definitely knows what he has done to April Jones and how she came to her death.

'The cracks in his story have already started to show during his trial. He will face more questions while in prison from his psychiatrist.

'Whether he chooses to engage with that process is a different matter, but I fear finding out the full extent of what he did could take a very long time.

Tania Cadogan said...

After viewing child pornography and a rape scene on television at home, Bridger decided to abduct April, which kick-started the biggest missing person hunt in police history.

She has never been found but police say they would try again if Bridger came clean about her death.

As hundreds scoured streets and countryside in the desperate hope of finding April safe and well, Bridger was cleaning her blood from his house and trying to remove DNA evidence - but he failed.

Later he shed tears over the ‘terrible news’ of her disappearance and helped volunteers to look for her, but was seen close to a river with a black bin liner, but said he was 'going for a wee' in a lay-by
In an emotionally-charged month-long trial the jury was shown the last, poignant image of five-year-old April Jones before she was killed. It was taken from CCTV footage at her local leisure centre as she came out of the changing rooms from her regular Monday evening swimming lesson. The time on the film was 5:29pm.

They were also shown Mark Bridger's Land Rover Discovery driving away from town at 7:19pm.

April would already have been in the passenger seat after Bridger abducted her from outside her home nearby.

The next morning, while hundreds scoured streets and countryside around the mid-Wales market town of Machynlleth, Bridger calmly went out for a walk with his dog.

He was captured on film by a police helicopter above the cottage in which the Crown says April lay bleeding on the hearth.

Smoke billowed from his chimney, which prosecutors suggested was a way of disposing of evidence.

Half an hour before his arrest, police officers went into Bridger's white-washed cottage searching for April.

They said the house was uncomfortably hot, there was a strong smell of detergent, and a smell of cleaning products, air freshener and washed clothes as he tried to hide his crime.

The only trace of the innocent blonde schoolgirl would emerge the next day - her blood in the ex-slaughterman's home, found with fragments of a child's skull among the ashes of his fireplace.

Detective Superintendent Andy John, who led the hunt for April's killer, said: 'Mark Bridger is an evil and manipulative individual. I think we have clearly identified during the course of our inquiries and during the course of the investigation that he is somebody who fantasises, he is somebody who likes to be in control and clearly believes that what he says is the true version of events.

'He is somebody that can't be trusted and, ultimately, he is somebody who has committed the most horrific of crimes.'

Tania Cadogan said...

Police believe Bridger, who was experienced in 'survival and bushcraft', dismembered April in his lounge before getting rid of her body in the forests and waterways in the hills surrounding his home.

Mr John said: 'I think that the body has been dismembered and various parts of the remains have been placed in different areas and possibly those remains have been so small and damaged that that's why we have had such difficulty in locating them.'

'He knows the geography of the area. We've got the rivers close by and the rivers were fast flowing and at the time this offence occurred they would have been very high.

'We can't rule out that body parts may have gone into the river. We can't rule out that certain parts would have been burnt.'

Mr John said he believed the attack was sexually motivated but that he did not think April was 'specific target'.

He said Bridger's life was spiralling out of control after he had been dumped by his girlfriend and he was also having financial difficulties.

'I think that April Jones happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and as a result was abducted,' he said.

The youngster's blood was found all over Bridger's cottage and a boning knife - obtained from his time as a skilled slaughterman - was found to have been burned in the fire to apparently eradicate any DNA evidence.

Bridger, who the prosecution said was 'forensically aware' had cleaned his Mount Pleasant cottage in the tiny Welsh hamlet of Ceinws from top to bottom.

Following his conviction, April's parents want the property to be demolished, police have said.

Detective Superintendent Andy John said: 'I know that the views of the family, on the basis of what we know is likely to have gone on there, are that they believe that the property should no longer exist.

'That is something that will need to be progressed now that the trial is concluded.'

In court Bridger, who could be seen with a large snake tattoo on his forearm, often wept when describing what he said happened to April. He wept most when he felt a piece of testimony or evidence might be backing up his wild claims.

When one forensic scientist said he could not say for sure that an assault took place in Mount Pleasant, Bridger openly wept and nodded.

But when the same scientist added that this did not mean an assault did not take place outside the house and Bridger brought April inside, he regained his composure.

The jury heard he had researched serial killer Ted Bundy on the FBI’s most wanted website, and also read about the James Bulger murder and was ‘volunteering’ information he knew about other murdered children, including Caroline Dickinson, Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.

His laptop had child porn on it, as well as files of pictures of local children, including April, grabbed off Facebook.

Tania Cadogan said...

Mark Bridger was described as a paedophile and a 'pathological and glib liar' as he was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in jail by Mr Justice Griffith Williams (right).

Here are the judge's sentencing remarks in full:

'The sentence for murder is life imprisonment but I have to decide the length of the minimum term you must serve.

'Schedule 21 of the Criminal Justice Act 2003 provides that if the court considers the seriousness of the offence is exceptionally high, the appropriate starting point should be a whole life order and that the cases which would normally fall within that category include the murder of a child which involves the abduction of the child or sexual or sadistic motivation.

'While I am satisfied that the seriousness of your offending is exceptionally high, I must nonetheless consider whether a substantial minimum term, in excess of a starting point of 30 years, would be sufficient to reflect the gravity of these offences.

'For the last four weeks, the court has listened to compelling evidence of your guilt, evidence which has also demonstrated that you are a pathological and glib liar. There is no doubt in my mind that you are a paedophile who has for some time harboured sexual and morbid fantasies about young girls, storing on your laptop not only images of pre-pubescent and pubescent girls, but foul pornography of the gross sexual abuse of young children.

'What prompted you on Monday October 1 to live out one of those fantasies is a matter for speculation but it may have been the combination of the ending of one sexual relationship and your drinking. Whatever, you set out to find a little girl to abuse. I am not sure you targeted April specifically - it was probably fortuitous that she can be seen on some of the images, which you stored on your laptop, of her older sister - but you were on the prowl for a young girl.

'April would not have been afraid of you, partly because you have some charm and she may well have seen you about the estate and probably because you let her know your son was a friend of her brother (just as you had tried to charm her sister into allowing you to be her Facebook friend by mentioning your links to her parents). And so it was that, innocently and trustingly, April got into your Land Rover smiling and happy.

'What followed is known only to you but this much is certain - you abducted her for a sexual purpose and then murdered her and disposed of her body to hide the evidence of your sexual abuse of her, which probably occurred on the way from the estate to your home because there is some 60 minutes of your time which cannot be accounted for.

'I cannot infer from the evidence where you murdered her but if she was alive when you took her to the house, she died there.

Tania Cadogan said...

'How you disposed of her body must remain a mystery. It will serve no purpose for me to speculate as to what happened but all the indications are that you burnt at least a part of her in the wood burner.

'The grief of April's parents cannot be over-stated. They lived with the torment of a missing daughter, praying that she would be found alive and then, following your arrest, with the knowledge that you were providing the police with no assistance at all as to her whereabouts. To add to that torment, they have had to endure the spectacle of your hypocritical sympathy for their loss and of your tears, flowing not because of any regret for your crimes, but because of your enduring self-pity.

'Without the knowledge of what happened to April, her parents will probably never come to terms with their grievous loss, described so eloquently in the impact statement. It is to be hoped, for their sakes... and for the sakes of all those who mourn April, that the verdicts will bring some measure of closure.

'Your offences were aggravated by their premeditation and by the destruction of at least a part of her body and the concealment of the rest. It is also a relevant consideration that you not only abducted April with a sexual motive but then sexually abused her in some way.

'While I have had regard to the absence of any relevant conviction, I have no doubt there can be only one sentence.

'For the offence of murder, I sentence you to life imprisonment with a whole life order. There will be no separate penalties on counts 1 and 3.'

Did the crazy cakes car just drive up and empty their vehicle? It's like walking thru a mine field trying to get past all the hateful spewing and nasty posts coming from the car. Off they go to ignore land.

Instead, waving hello to my fellow bloggers who share their intelligent, thoughtful, comments on statement analysis! Peter & Heather, I hope you and your family are doing well! :)

@ Hobnob
So happy Bridger is off the streets and in prison for the rest of his life! I don't think he will ever tell the truth and give April's family the respect they deserve. I hope he won't be protected on the inside with other paedophiles since he has denied it! He is evil beyond words.

""Someone is trying to make this site so unpleasant that people stop coming here to read""

That would be Peter Hyatt for posting entries attacking Democrats.

Misusing statement analysis to attack Democrats triggers replies attacking Republicans and nullifies his credibility as a professional statement analyst.

If Peter were doing unbiased, objective statement analysis, he would dissect statements of conservative republicans, but refuses to do so.

***********************************

What in the world does Democrat or Republican have to do with the article posted? Was George Clooney holding hands with Barack Obama or with a model? No where is politics mentioned except by you. You don't know the first thing about statement analysis, you come here to spew only. There is a statement given to analyze. Lay down your sword and analyze the statement.

Thank you just another anon. At least he's already in prison. Her body being found should help them in the murder case.

"If you're going to single out and attack Democrats on a public blog, expect blowback, and don't be surprised of people step and reconsider whether or not you're a professional objectively applying statement analysis or an agenda-driven liar misusing statement analysis to pursue inflammatory agenda-driven goals."

Wow. Have you considered therapy? You do realize it isn't normal to be that identified with politics? Is this your religion? Are you on some kind of crusade? Do you harass every site on the internet that doesn't present the picture you want to see?

I find it concerning that you consider analyzing their actual words to be an "attack." If they have not spoken falsely, they would not be in danger of being shown to be liars, would they?

It upsets you more that others aren't being shown to be liars than that members of your own party are shown to be liars. Have you really thought about this in depth? You are giving a lot of allegiance to people who are liars. Why would you feel the need to do that?

Hey Waterville 6 or 4 or 3 or Billynotdunnnothing, I just skip the anon posts. We all know what you are trying to do here and it's not working. Peter keep up the great work you do here for the missing, murdered and neglected kids. It is clear to me that you are and have been rattling some cages.
