Sylvia Brown: Fraud Revealed

Sylvia Browne did what every psychic does:  she played the odds, but here, she lost.  Anyone who charges for knowledge claimed to be obtained outside of the human senses, is fraudulent.

The press did not give much coverage to Jonathan Edward flying out in his personal jet to seek fame at the expense of Elaine Redwine's heart.

foxnews:

In the days since Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight emerged from their decade-long captivity in a home in Cleveland, Ohio, celebrity psychic Sylvia Browne has come under scrutiny for her incorrect prediction regarding Berry’s fate.

In 2004, the year following the then 16-year-old schoolgirl’s disappearance, Browne appeared on “The Montel Williams” show and told Berry’s distraught mother Louwana Miller – who died from heart failure a year later – that her daughter was “in heaven and on the other side” and that her last words were “goodbye, mom, I love you.”

Turns out Browne was wrong, and thousands of people have flooded her Facebook page to tell her what they think.

“Sylvia is a con artist and commits fraud for financial gain,” commented one, as another weighed in: “You should be ashamed of yourself....why would anybody believe anything you have to say after this?? All you do is rip money off the weak minded people.” Another wrote “YOU are the worst kind of predator, offering people hope where there is none,” while several called Browne everything from a “fraud” and a “lying rat” to a “scammer” and a “fake.”
“Sylvia sees dead people,” wrote another. “Only they’re not dead.”

Browne has created quite a business as a spiritual leader: she’s published 45 books over the years, runs the “Sylvia Browne Hypnosis Training Center” in Northern California, and has phone psychic reading fee of $850, currently discounted to $550.

In response to the criticism, Browne's rep released a statement asserting that for nearly six decades, Browne has dedicated her life to helping individuals, families and law enforcement agencies on hundreds of high-profile criminal investigations, and received numerous commendations for her the “positive impact her contributions have provided.”

“For more than 50 years as a spiritual psychic and guide, when called upon to either help authorities with missing person cases or to help families with questions about their loved ones, I have been more right than wrong,” Browne herself insisted. “If ever there was a time to be grateful and relieved for being mistaken, this is that time. Only God is right all the time.”
We’re told that Sherry Cole, Amanda Berry's cousin, also reached out to Browne on Wednesday to offer support.

“Our family in no way blames Sylvia. This doesn’t change anything. We still love her and believe in her,” Cole stated, according to Browne’s team.

Amongst the intense backlash, there were at least a few fans defending Browne’s psychic abilities.
“You can’t be right all the time. You would have to be God,” observed a Facebook follower, as another noted that “everyone makes mistakes.”

Earlier this year, Browne told FOX411's Pop Tarts column that she has had her “spirit guide” for 70 years, and that her “God-given gift” is simply in her DNA.

“I was just born this way. Why did Beethoven create symphonies and everything? Why did he play the piano when he was three years old? I was just born with this,” she said. “My grandmother was and my mother was and my son is, and we go back three hundred years. It may be a genetic thing.”

I have 2 other vivid memories of Sylvia Brown's "abilities."

1. A few years ago, she was being interviewed live on the Coast-to-Coast radio show. At the time, there was a breaking news story about miners being trapped. While interviewing Ms. Browne, George Noory broke the news that the miners were found and were being rescued. Ms. Browne said she was just about to announce on his show that all miners would be found alive. A couple of minutes later, the news broke that although the miners were found, most (if not all) were dead. Mr. Noory cut off the interview to avoid Ms. Browne any further embarrassment.

2. I remember Ms. Browne telling Shawn Hornbeck's parents on the Montel Williams' Show that their son was dead and gave an abstract description of where his body would be found. Shawn was found alive a few years later.

I almost never disagree with you Peter, but I know that not all psychics are frauds--maybe 99% --but not all.

I couldn't imagine injecting one's self into such an emotional period in a family's life to "help" unless what was being offered was actually helpful.

While growing up my bf's mom did astrological charts. She must have been pretty good because she was charging $100 back in 70's and 80's and getting it hand over fist. On a personal level, we used to love to hear about what our life could be like "in the future". But she gave it up after her husband died because she was too grief stricken to deal with everyone else's grief, depression and desperation. (The only time people ever wanted to see her.)

And that's the crux, isn't it. Happy and settled people don't seek out psychics.

As a segue, I'm turning 50 within the year and I was thinking of doing a past/present/future themed get together with my girlfriends. I was entertaining the idea of having a tarot card reader as the entertainment (future) and empty picture fames intermingled with pictures of me with family and friends from the past and present.

ducks tomatoes.

Why should people expect money for witnessing what may help another? Some call it a gift others call it a curse. If it's a gift how can a price tag be placed upon it and if it's a curse, how can a price tag be placed upon it? It seems both a gift and a curse, no price tag could be placed upon. What's left is to do the right thing.

I agree with Colleen that not all psychics are frauds

I personally know an "astrologer" and "psychic" who studied, in no particular order, clinical psychology which included hypnosis) in-depth in college and a masters degree, independently studied and viewed police interrogation techniques, independently studied vocal pedagogy to slow down and soften her speaking (trusting voice, hypnotic voice), and independently studied rhetoric to develop the skill of using highly ambiguous and ambivalent language.

She basically learned how to lull people into confessing their life stories and thoughts and hopes and dreams, then reframed all the information - information people seeking "answers" provided to her - reframed all the information in a way that "answered" their questions and "enlightened" them and provided them with "guidance".

When I first met her we spoke for an hour and I thought she was a guidance counsellor or child psychologist and was shocked beyond shocked when she eventually revealed her profession.

People pay her believing she's a psychic and astrologer who will predict their future, but she's not, but not for the worse (scam artist like Sylvia Browne), but for the better: they're paying a degreed clinical psychologist to tell them what they already know but are too blind to see, and getting a bit of wisdom to boot.

The practice of reading tarot cards, seeking and listening to psychic readers, dabbling in seances and the calling up of the dead, and ouija boards, are all the practice of divination and calling on false spirits. God will deal with them all severely in the judgement.

Anyone who doesn't believe this, or cares about their eternal salavation enough to look into these practices will be looking up what God has to say about them all in His Holy Word and will pay attention.

It is no joke. These practices are very dangerous and leaves one wide open to demonic influences in their life and those around them.

When people say things like this, it makes me want to skip out of society and live in the woods. I use Tarot. It's fun and innocent. I am surrounded by positive energy and talk to God daily.

I was raised a Catholic in a small southern town where the neighbors and eventually much of the school claimed we held black masses in our yard and prayed to the devil, such was their ignorance about the Catholic faith.

The tarot are just cards. They hold no magic powers. Please, educate yourself and stop fear-mongering and sewing divisiveness.

So, she's saying grifting runs in a families genetics?

Anonymous said...

I would think that grifting, in the nature vs nurture argument, would tend toward the nurture side, myself.

Who's "they" John and how do you know if some may have averted some type of disaster? If the incident seen was averted and not allowed to come to fruition it would be a non publicizable or newsworthy event.
Aside from this if a person were to notify authorities about something they may have seen how would this person go about presenting their information without risking their own rights to freedom? Hmmm.

I beg to differ, ALL psychis and anyone practicing any kind of divination ARE frauds. God has not lied to us and has forewarned us not to seek them out and not to go there. You either believe God, or you don't. It's not a game.

God is not telling a single one of these false teachers anything he wants us to know by some 'subject-to-be-wrong' third-party, that he will not lead us too Himself if it is His will and we trust him. God does not want us deceived and searching out our future from false spirits. He wants us to seek and trust Him and Him alone. You can't have it both ways.

This includes false prohpets like Televangelist Benny Henn who goes to the cript of Katherine Kulhman and lays his hands on it, claiming that she talks to him and guides him, and this is where he gets the holy healing spirit. He too is nothing more than a practicing psychic and calling it God's will. Well, God doesn't work like that, having already forewarned us NOT to call up the spirits of the dead.

There is NO WAY I would ever let this man or any of his ilk lay their hands on me. Yes, I do believe we ought to pay attention who we ask and allow to pray for us. We don't know WHO they are talking too but it sure isn't God if it's against what he has already forewarned us NOT to do.

Be warned, not every one or everything claiming to be the holy spirit comes from God, nor is everyone who claims they are talking to God, or that God told them thus and so on, came from God. It didn't, not when it is against anything he has already told us not to do.

Fear mongering Anon @ 6:24? Not quite my dear. Did you not know "the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom"? His words, not mine. This has nothing to do with being raised catholic or in any other denomination or lack of.

I am merely presenting the truth that God has forewarned us about many times over in his Holy Word. If you don't want to hear it, that's your choice and your right; you have been given free will just as we all have been.

It is MY choice however, to believe what GOD said and not anything that any mortal man/woman says or does, particularly when it goes against those things that God has already told us NOT to do.

Anonymous said...

Believe what you like Anon @6:52. That too is YOUR choice. I've made mine as I KNOW God's Word is found in the Holy Bible. No mortal man even thinks like this book is written, never has and never will.

You will just have to find that out for yourself. I hope it isn't the hard way, after it's too late.

Jilly, during Clinton's last year as president Sylvia came on Montel and said he'd leave for four years and come back for a third term. There was silence in the auditorium and acpoker face on Montel as he realized she'd had a psychic stroke on stage, predicting a third term, having had visions as it were, all through her fourth grade civics class.

How we are still talking about this tool is beyond me. Check out Noreen Rainier if you want a fraud, straight off Psychic Detectives.

But thank you for the LOL about Sylvia!

I am not a member of The Westwood Baptist Church or any other church. Also, I am not knocking myself out (not today) to lead anyone to Christ, this would be your OWN choice to make; did you see me say that I was, did I even mention Christ? Not, you didn't. That is not to say that I wouldn't mention Christ as I most assuredly would. THIS subject is about psychics and there is plenty in God's Word against this practice.

Anyone who wants to poke fun at God and His Word, or dismiss it, or insult me in trying to convey the truth to you; go right ahead. You are free to do so, having your own free will. Just remember, we will ALL give an account of every idle word. There is not one word spoken or uttered, or one act performed that will not be seen and heard by Almighty God.

MAN wrote the Bible.

No part of that is defined as "G-d does not exist" or "There is no G-d" but thanks for demonstrating you're illiterate.

MAN wrote the bible. Biblical scrolls prove MAN wrote the Bible.

Most adults know multiple people originally stitched together scriptures, then amended and redacted and expanded them, creating an accretion of biblical scrolls for thousands of years, most adults know HUMANS with varied worldviews were responsible for constructing the biblical scrolls.

No part of the above translates to "No G-d exists" or "There is no G-d".

No mortal man even thinks like this book is written

Except for the entire Western and Eastern (Bible excluded) canons of philosophy and literature, Soren Kierkegaard, Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Nietzsche, Wittgenstein, et al.

Writers who write at the same level as the biblical writers: Qu'ran, William Shakespeare, Dylan Thomas, Nikos Kazantzakis, Boris Pasternak, Ovid, Virgil, Hermann Hesse, Homer, Walt Whitman, Cormac McCarthy, Vladimir Nabokov, James Joyce, Salmon Rushdie, Herman Melville, C.S. Lewis, Kahlil Gibran, Gerard Manley Hopkins, T.S. Eliot, Sylvia Plath, William Blake, Hart Crane, Jack Kerouac, Roberto Bolaño, D.H. Lawrence, Virginia Woolf, and a boatload of others

No mortal man even thinks like this book is written

Siddhartha Gautama codified it long before the early Hebrews wrote it

Sumerian writers wrote it long before the early Hebrews wrote it

Babylonian writers wrote it long before early Hebrews wrote it

Pre-Caanite poets wrote it long before early Hebrews wrote it

Archaic writers of Asia Minor wrote it long before early Hebrews wrote it

Archaic Egyptian writers wrote it long before early Hebrews wrote it

Ugaritic writers wrote it long before early Hebrew writers wrote it

Archaic Indian mythologists wrote it long before early Hebrews wrote it

If you actually read the Bible like you pretend to have you'd know the Bible contains fragments of writings and poetry and geneological tables and etiological tales and mythological stories and leitmotifs and words and word etymologies and grammatical arrangements and syntax taken from all the archaic peoples/cultures I listed above. There's even fragments that are unidentifiable, and much of the Hebrew employment was directly culled from pre-existing lexicons of other cultures/peoples that the Hebrews culled and morphed.

Chuck the fraudulently translated King James "bible" (LOL^infinity for citing the KJV as your source: that translation was created for literary appeal, not serious study) and begin reading a direct Hebrew-to-English transliteration+translation of the TaNaKH (what you call the "Old Testament") and a direct Koine-to-English transliteration+translation of the New Testament. Or begin by reading the TaNaKH in Hebrew (which I do) and the New Testament in Koine.

Start with Robert Alter's transliteration+translation of the Torah, Joshua, Judges, Samuel, David, Kings, Job, Psalms, Ecclesiastes, and Proverbs, and pay attention to his historical and linguistical footnotes

Start here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Alter#Selected_works

And buy yourself a handful of world mythology books and world literature anthologies focussed on pre-biblical mythology and pre-biblical literature. You will find the early Hebrews culled and morphed the most popular parts of the Torah from pre-existing mythologies and literature and pantheons.

And NOTHING I posted above translates to "G-d does not exist".

Attempting to pretend it does exposes your lack of knowledge regarding the historicity of the Bible and further exposes you as a blind "evil atheists you're all going to hell" nutjob.

on wiki they have quite a page on Sylvia Browne. Including the fact she added the e to Brown to...
snipped: "...during the third of her five marriages, and added a final e after she was indicted on security fraud charges." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvia_Browne

I have not verified all that is on that page but I believe Sylvia is a con man. This woman has made tons of money off of many people including those who are desperate for information on their loved ones.

I can remember her claiming that various health issues like ADD is made up. I hope people don't trust her. She just throws stuff out there trying to sound like an authority. Her attempt to sound like 'she tells it like it is, AKA a straight shooter,' makes me sick. I wonder how many people she has harmed with her advice?
http://bit.ly/16kOrZg

Personally I think she is an authority on how to rip people off. I believe her ex-husband is telling the truth that S.B. is a fraud.

I guess you can probably tell Sylvia really bugs me. It bugs me that Montel, King and others have her on with all her phony baloney bravado. She has been proven wrong so many times. But, she must get them the ratings. So glad to hear people are calling her out for her cruel lies.

@religious freak

You must hate Ecclesiastes because Qoheleth's (the Speaker) pronouncements are moral maxims that are challenge and/or undermine and/or radically dissent from the consensus view of the Biblical writers. Unlike the bulk of the TaNaKh (what you call "Old Testament"), which streams with the underlying doctrine that wisdom is the one true road of meaningful progress culminating in microcosmic and macrocosmic fulfilment, and includes the subdoctrines that righteous will be rewarded and the wicked punished, and that man's spirit ascend upward after death, the Speaker of Ecclesiastes profers that everything humanity endeavours to do is futile and everything operates in endless cycles of repetition and ALL: the Righteous and the Iniquitous, are the same, the spirit of man and beast alike and descend into the earth upon death.

You must hate Ecclesiastes because Qoheleth (heleth = hevel = flimsy vapour exhaled in breathing) is the opposite of G-d (life-breath, the animating force in living creatures, the life-breath of the Creation parables).

And you must hate Job too because like the typical "evil atheist" Job investigates the problem of Theodicy (how can an Omni+ G-d allow all the suffering and evil in the world......), not to mention Job is cosmosgnostical and geognostical, not Sinners-Burn-In-Hellical. Job illustrates that we humans create our own internal hell and burn in it......The Book of Job is one of the two books (Ecclesiastes is the other, see above) of the Bible that radically challenges the canonical Jewish and Christian doctrine of reward for the righteous and punishment for the wicked, and Job also categorically rejects the anthropocentric conception of Creation expressed from Genesis onward.

Good Christians pay attention to Ecclesiastes (we're all equal and we're all nothing so think twice before telling people they'll burn in hell because YOU will also burn in hell and we are all burning in hell-on-earth right now) and Job (G-d not responsible for all the good nor all the bad, good people end up in hell, bad people end up in heaven, 'tis)

Bad Christians need to be interred in a Yeshiva and learn something already.

Do you know of a psychic who is not fraudulent? I am on the fence.

Maude-lin:

Yes. I know from first-hand personal experience. After someone I love died quite suddenly and unexpectedly a few years ago, I fell into a deep depression. Despite trying grief counseling, therapy, anti-depressants (numerous ones), nothing helped me get any better. In fact, I was getting worse.

I knew the only thing that would help me would be if I could somehow be sure his spirit was still alive; he was safe; and that I had the chance to see him again someday.

I'm extremely skeptical and it takes me a long time to trust anyone. Over the years, I've read about and watched numerous psychics on TV and thought they all were frauds except for one. I was still skeptical but she was the only one I thought I would ever give a chance if I ever had the opportunity. She's not well known nationally like the others with books, etc. I saw her once on a old talk show and remembered her name. I tried everything else, so I figured I'd give it a try. I called her and scheduled a reading (via long distance).

A day before the reading, all she asked me to fax her was a picture of him and his name.

During the reading, she relayed some messages from him relating to something from our past that absolutely no one else could have known about--I'm not talking about vague generalities. And when she was giving me these messages, she spoke in a way I know he would have worded it. I know that last part is subjective, and maybe I thought that because I wanted so much to believe it, but the facts she relayed stand on their own.

Bottom line: This experience helped me tremendously and I believe the communication was real.

Is this poster that woman labeled the "God Warrior", Marguerite Perrin, that was on the show 'Trading Spouses' a few years ago?

To suggest that someone is positing God doesn't exist because they challenge your assertion...and I use the word "challenge" lightly because I'd hardly call Anon's astute posts "challenging... as denying, denouncing, questioning or anything of the sort toward God's existence is a huge logical fallacy; take your pick, it falls under many. It may be true that Anon does question God's existence, however, you could not logically derive that from their claims that the Bible was written by man and has works found in even earlier works of literature around the world. I'd also like to note that even though the Bible is not singularly unique as one Anon's post ellucidated, it does not mean has to lose significance or beauty for its readers and believers; it doesn't make it any less valuable unless you choose to defensively make it so. Perhaps this speaks as evidence that your god spoke a message to many around the world. Why cause it to be self-limiting or assume it is somehow sacrilaged because it is found elsewhere, multiple times around the world? I do not believe this to be the case but it doesn't mean you can't. Why allow exclusivity to shut out more people and blind yourself from historical fact? Your Bible states that God's word is for everyone; is it not plausible that he transmitted it to many people's the world over since the beginning of time?

The works of your Bible are canonized, they were specifically selected by men of a much more modern-day church. there are many, many texts that have been selectively left out, some thought to be authored by the same individual(s) as texts that are included. Many works are not signed and it is guess work as to who authored them. It is the work of more recent church authorities of the last couple or so centuries that have decided what should make up your KJV Bible. Do you believe God chose these men and spoke to them about what to include?

I do not wish to trivialize your holy text, only to ask you to think even more critically about this. God didn't select the works in your Bible as being more holy than the dozens of others that were purposefully excluded. What of the words God spoke/gave to people that are in texts not included in your canonized version? I am digressing a bit here yet it is all related. Your argument is so slippery. If we assume that your Bible is written and/or inspired by God, what about the non-canonized works? You say these words are like none other and that is fine, it shows how dear your religion is to you, but it is food for thought. Also, please consider my other 'food for thought' per the abundance of similar works speaking for your God and showing just what the Bible says, that God wishes all would choose to follow him, instead of choosing to see it in an offensive or slighting light.

To the Anon who writes it as "G-d", are you Jewish? I was fascinated to learn a few years back why people of the Jewish faith write it that way. It gave this atheist added admiration for a faith, people, and culture I already found so much beauty in.

"I was just born with this,”

-"this" is close. "This" does not specify, again, what she was born with; she hopes we interpret it as something special and meaningful.

“My grandmother was and my mother was and my son is, and we go back three hundred years. It may be a genetic thing.”

-She does not specify what her grandmother "was" or her mother "was", or what her son "is." Charlatans, like her, I think.

After I posted my recollection of George Noory's interview with Sylvia Browne, I did some research to ensure my memory was accurate. I found a transcript. After Mr. Noory informed her that the good news had been premature, that 12 of the 13 miners had died, she clarified (or backtracked) that she predicted they would be found--not found "alive."

My opinion of her psychic abilities remains the same.

there.... I DON'T REALLY THINK there's anybody alive. If there is, I THINK MAYBE only one. I JUST DON'T believe that there's.... I HAVEN'T heard ANYTHING 'CAUSE I've been with you, but uh... I JUST DON'T THINK they are... alive.

WOW."I DON'T THINK" LOL.I have heard so many qualifiers in one sentence.

There are plenty of negatives also, and as we know, anything said in the negative is sensitive.

She says: "CAUSE"which is a short way of saying BECAUSE.

When there is a need to explain,So,Therefore, because etc,This become's highly sensitive.

What a joke..

I'm the "literary freak" (different from religious freak) from earlier I want to finish in closing:

For more than a thousand years Christian philosophers/scholars/historians have questioned and deconstructed and criticized Christianity (doctrine and history, culture and philosophy, etc) that does not mean they do not believe in G-d. One of the main reasons why the Western world is considered "civilized" is BECAUSE Christians achieved the ability to not only accept challenges and criticisms and deconstructions of Christianity without resorting to violence and with an open mind but because Christians themselves learned to be able to challenge and criticize and deconstruct Christianity themselves while still retaining their religious beliefs.

Paul had trouble describing crucifixion, shifting between a sacrifice, expiation, atonement, reconciliation, a sharing, redemption, a ransom, an adoption. That does not mean he did not believe in the resurrection or G-d or Jesus as G-d or was fork-tongued.

The Bible was not created to be a weapon to vilify people, it was designed by suffering people to be a historical record of suffering people for other suffering people to learn from. It was created to be a pure golden honeycomb dripping its gold on earth for the suffering. It was created to instruct and command and teach and give succour and guide and enlighten and guide and save.

Not use to accuse people you don't like of not being good moral ethical righteous G-d-believing people and scare them with fables about hell if they don't live the "good moral ethical righteous G-d-believing" way you want them to live.

The corpus of ancient Hebrew literature is an infinite wellspring of literary art figurative language. The Bible offers unparalleled rich and varied evidence of purposeful literary elements and heightened polysemic language.

Look at biblical language - it is heightened and stylized and decourous and dignified, it is filled with intentional patterns and linguistic morphology, and unique lexicography; the writers employed unique syntax and grammer, resplendent cadences and dialects, they used catacosmesis before anyone decided to use one word to describe that type of phrasing, they utilized tautegoricalisms, metaphors, metonymy, asyndeton, hyperbato, anaphora, epistrope, epanalepsis, anadiplosis, periphrasis, congery, syllepsis, symploce, polyptoton, metalepsis, polysyndeton, epanadiplosis, parisology, macrology, parataxis, hypotaxis, antimetabole, auxesis, chiasmus, catacosmesis, zeugma, protozeugma, mesozugma, hypozeugma, cycloides, amoebaeon, coenote, epibole, synantsis, epexegesis, mimesis, all the sweet stuff Ovid and Virgil and Shakespeare sugared on, long before people decided to apply single words to describe technical writing elements.

Nearly all literature alludes to the Bible (Hebrew Bible and New Testament).

Novels and poems and plays and music and art and films reference, allude to, emulate, pay homage to, criticize, mock, and directly evocate the bible, biblical phrases, biblical images, biblical motifs, biblical situations, etc.

The Biblical writers practically invented a thing called "allegory" and when reading the Bible it must be read as literary art replete with allegory in order to have a chance at understanding it. It's not only open to interpretation, if you study it's philology you'll discover it REQUIRES interpretation because its lexicon+philology is highly highly highly complex and diversified and innovate.

This was a VERY good point. Rather than swoop in and tell the parent their child is dead, it would be much better to call the night before and tell them someone was going to take their child the next day.

But alas, none of this is real.

I have myself gone to one, and she predicted many things. Not one aspect was reality.

GOOD POINT! Its true. I think its possible god is just as "fake" as a physic. I find no proof he exhisted and if he did, he told Abraham "kill your son to prove your loyalty to me" Not a god I would every love or follow. This world puts too much into false beliefs.

This is why I so love SA. Its something that is so black or white. They lied or did not lie.

In a world so full of mystery, SA takes that out. It may not tell us for sure what happened, but that they are in fact not telling the truth.

Helps me at work, with my husband and my son.

Another interesting case where she was VERY wrong. I mean in this case, it was not even like she can claim "my images were wrong" because her level of details were way out there.

I have the link (the person looked into cases shes predicted and discovered she was wrong most every time)

http://www.csicop.org/si/show/psychic_defective_sylvia_brownes_history_of_failure

Sometimes Browne is not only wrong but also tells suffering families horrible things. In 1999, Browne did a reading for Opal Jo Jennings’ grandmother, who wanted to know what happened to Jennings, a six-year-old abducted from her front yard in Texas. Browne told the grandmother, “She’s . . . not . . . dead. But what bothers me—now I’ve never heard of this before, but for some reason, she was taken and put into some kind of a slavery thing and taken into Japan. The place is Kukouro. Or Kukoura.” Browne was wrong. Child molester Richard Lee Franks was charged with the kidnapping that same year and convicted the following year. Jennings’ remains were discovered in 2003. Medical examiners concluded that “Opal was killed by trauma to the head with[in] several hours of her abduction.”

As a MO gal, I had closely followed the Shawn Hornbeck tragedy, and also saw the Montel segment as Browne "revealed" his death and actually purchased one of her books. After he was found alive a few years later, I read up on things like "cold readings" on a site I believe is called "skeptics" and have come to believe that most of the prominent "psychics" like Sylvia Browne are just particularly good at this technique.

It's sad.

Maude-lin,
I don't know if there is a difference between a Spiritualist and a psychic, but I visited a Spiritualist once.

She relayed messages to me from my little brother. It was all about guidance in my life, and topics only known to my brother and myself.

Another spirit attempted to speak to me using a nickname only one person ever used. I declined to speak to that spirit.

I was completely convinced of the Spiritualist's authenticity when she kept insisting my brother and my dad's father were together and wanted me to carry their messages to my dad. I thought my dad would scoff at the whole thing, but I told him word for word. My dad cried.

There was no way anyone could know what those messages meant but my dad, my brother, and my dad's father. My dad is 80. His father hung himself when my dad was 3 years old. I wont go into my little brother one. It's too private.

I believe that some people can go beyond the earthly senses. Some are frauds.

Authorities have confirmed that the body of Mall of America store manager who has been missing since February and feared murdered by her husband has been found in the Mississippi River.

The body of Kira Trevino was spotted in the river in downtown St Paul by a passerby on Wednesday afternoon, Randy Gustafson from the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office told CBS.

Authorities swarmed the scene and pulled the body from the water, but were not initially certain whether it was a man or woman. They have now confirmed the identity as 30-year-old Kira Trevino.

Mrs Trevino was last seen leaving the Mall of America, where she worked as a store manager of a clothing store, with her husband, Jeffrey, on the night of February 21.
Mr Trevino, 39, has since been arrested and charged with his wife's murder after authorities discovered 'copious amounts' of blood throughout their home and on her abandoned car.

Authorities initially focused their search on Keller Lake, which is less than two miles from the Trevinos' St Paul residence, after witnesses said they saw two men carrying a body-sized bag there.
Volunteers later came across a plastic bag containing a bloody pillow, a bar, shirt and a sponge, and DNA on the items matched that of Kira Trevino.

A hole was also discovered in the frozen lake, and divers were called in to search an 85-foot radius, but nothing was found, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported.

Despite the lack of a body, authorities felt they had enough evidence to charge Mr Trevino with two counts of second-degree murder. He is being held on $1million bail.

After she went missing, security officials at the Mall of America found the woman's car in a corner of a parking lot. Her purse and cell phone were inside, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported.

Trevino's mother, Marcie Steger, said her daughter’s car was backed into the parking space, a maneuver she said her daughter couldn't execute.

The car was towed to an impound lot, and that is where the tow driver spotted what appeared to be blood around the trunk. Police that were called to the scene recovered Trevino's stained trunk liner nearby, and tests confirmed that it was soaked with human blood.

The gruesome discovery prompted investigators to search the couple's home in the 500 block of East Iowa Avenue in St. Paul just hours later.
Inside, officers found several freshly washed towels in a basket next to a dryer alongside the Arkansas Razorbacks shirt Jeffrey Trevino said he wore on February 21 when his wife went missing.

Going through the house, police also found two bleach-stained towels, a mop, bucket and cleaning products. In the master bedroom, detectives came across a gory scene, with blood stains around the bed and a large human-shaped blood stain on the carpet, according to their report.

In the bedroom, blood was found on the floor, box spring, mattress, bed frame, bookshelf, closet door, baseboard trim and the wall.

Processing of the home found 'evidence of extensive cleanup efforts,' including furniture moved to hide evidence, a spray bottle of bleach solution and a carpet cleaning machine. A carpet cleaner had what appeared to be blood and human tissue inside of it.
More blood was found throughout the house, including in the kitchen, main flood living room, hallways, bathroom, stair landing, on the stairs leading down to the basement - revealing evidence of a long and brutal struggle.

Tania Cadogan said...

According to the charges against him, Trevino claims that his wife had been suffering a mid-life crisis and that she had been leaving their home for two or three days at a time.

He also said that he recently learned his wife had been lying about where she was staying and it has emerged that family and friends both informed the police that the couple were having relationship problems.

According to the suspect, he last saw Kira Trevino at 8.30am Friday before she left for work. She told him that she was planning to work out at her gym in New Brighton, squeeze in a tanning session at a Roseville salon, run some errands and stop in at work to interview new employees.

Kira did not go make it into work that day, however, nor did she arrive to work on Saturday and Trevino did not report her missing until 10.30am Sunday - the same day he told her family that he could not locate her.
Later that day, Kira Trevino’s mother called police, reporting her concern for the safety of her daughter, who recently shared with her that she and her husband were having martial problems, and that Mr Trevino was 'checking into her bank accounts,' the complaint says.

Days later, police in Bloomington recovered video from the Mall of America that showed Kira Trevino’s car entering the parking lot Friday morning.

The video isn’t clear enough to show who was in the car, but it shows someone at the back of the vehicle throwing what appears to be a trunk liner away from the car.

The person then got into a cab, which had a GPS tracker, and was dropped off near Trevino’s home, the complaint said.
Kira Trevino met her husband in Wausau, Wisconsin, where her family is from, when he was in town working on the construction of a hospital. They married about three years ago.

A 'Find Kira Trevino' Facebook page shared the tragic news on Thursday.

'The body found in the Mississippi yesterday afternoon is Kira,' a post read. 'Though not released and laid to rest yet, she will be. It is no longer a question of when and where.

'To all the volunteers who helped us search for our lost friend, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Words can not express how much the support has meant to all of us and Kira's family.'

The Jewish faith considers the name of God to be so holy, it is never written. Since His name must be used at times, it is written without vowels..G-d. You are likely familiar with YHWH, the written form of Yaweh, or Jehovah. It is done in reverence, not anything else.

I found the terms in the dissertation unusual. Such phrasing is not commonly used, and to find them contained in an internet posting even more so. I wonder if anon either has borrowed, and altered somewhat, from scholarly writings, or is himself a scholar with published materials.

Aren't you glad there isn't a 'general' thread?

My migraine is leaving, so I'll chime in. The Bible cautions against consulting those who contact the dead. That is reason enough for many to stay away from mediums and psychics.

Aside from the vulnerability upon which they prey, and profit, it is unwise to give evil a foothold. Yes, the words may feel comforting (there are ways of fishing information to feed back to the 'client'. This keeps them coming back, and puts $$ in the psychic's pocket.

Worse than money is the possible loss of faith. Some folks fall into depending on the psychic for direction, or direction from their loved one through a medium. Rather than trusting their own instincts and feelings, or faith, or even family..their grief draws them to the one making a living from them.

'night all..and a Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms, Grandmothers, Aunts, and mothers in deed..

Perhaps this will help, anon
It is written on a basic, easy to grasp level.

http://www.jewfaq.org/name.htm

"Writing the Name of God

Jews do not casually write any Name of God. This practice does not come from the commandment not to take the Lord's Name in vain, as many suppose. In Jewish thought, that commandment refers solely to oath-taking, and is a prohibition against swearing by God's Name falsely or frivolously (the word normally translated as "in vain" literally means "for falsehood").

Judaism does not prohibit writing the Name of God per se; it prohibits only erasing or defacing a Name of God. However, observant Jews avoid writing any Name of God casually because of the risk that the written Name might later be defaced, obliterated or destroyed accidentally or by one who does not know better.

The commandment not to erase or deface the name of God comes from Deut. 12:3. In that passage, the people are commanded that when they take over the promised land, they should destroy all things related to the idolatrous religions of that region, and should utterly destroy the names of the local deities. Immediately afterwards, we are commanded not to do the same to our God. From this, the rabbis inferred that we are commanded not to destroy any holy thing, and not to erase or deface a Name of God.

It is worth noting that this prohibition against erasing or defacing Names of God applies only to Names that are written in some kind of permanent form. Orthodox rabbis have held that writing on a computer is not a permanent form, thus it is not a violation to type God's Name into a computer and then backspace over it or cut and paste it, or copy and delete files with God's Name in them. However, once you print the document out, it becomes a permanent form. That is why observant Jews avoid writing a Name of God online: because there is a risk that someone else will print it out and deface it. See a 1998 discussion of the issue at The Sanctity of God's Name, Part 1: Erasing Sacred Texts from a Computer Screen if you're interested, but be aware that the lengthy article is thick with technical religious jargon, not always explained.

Normally, we avoid writing the Name by substituting letters or syllables, for example, writing "G-d" instead of "God." In addition, the number 15, which would ordinarily be written in Hebrew as Yod-Hei (10-5), is normally written as Teit-Vav (9-6), because Yod-Hei is a Name. See Hebrew Alphabet for more information about using letters as numerals"

OT: Thanks for your encouragement ABC!

Now, more OT:
Peter and all commenters:
2 months ago 16 year old Alicia Moore's body was found in a trunk. Her uncle was arrested for her murder on Monday. Below are some of his statements from jail. I am hoping that you will analyze them with all your experience. Thanks for your skills and insight in advance!

GREENVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) – Michael Moore was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the killing of his niece, 16-year old Alicia Moore of Greenville. Now, in an exclusive jailhouse interview with KRLD’s L.P. Phillips, Michael Moore is adamantly denying his involvement in the murder.

“No, I didn’t murder Alicia. I loved Alicia,” said Michael Moore. “I wanted to help her. She had some mental problems and I wanted to help her. She has some sexual problems. She was addicted to sex.”

Alicia Moore’s body was found inside a trunk alongside FM 47 in Van Zandt County on Nov. 6, just four days after the teenager disappeared after getting off her school bus about a block from home.

Sources say that DNA found on Alicia’s body ultimately linked the murder to 57-year-old Michael Moore. But Moore, who is being held on $10 million bond, claims that if DNA was found on the teenager’s body, it was planted.

“Who is going to believe me over the U.S. Marshals and the FBI? Nobody’s going to believe me. If there’s my DNA on her body, then they put it there.”

Michael Moore also claims to have an alibi, saying he was in Grand Prairie with his dad on the Friday his niece disappeared.

“I was home that Thursday and Friday. My car was broken down. I didn’t fix my car until Saturday.”

Michael Moore also revealed that he was investigated as a suspect in the murder of a child in California. He says police ultimately looked elsewhere, and another man was convicted of the crime.

The Texas Rangers arrested Moore on Monday night at his home in Grand Prairie.

“I wasn’t surprised when they came to arrest me. No I wasn’t.”

While Moore wasn’t surprised by the arrest, members of the family were shocked.

“We’re glad it’s an arrest, but we’re just shocked about the person who they arrested,” said Alicia’s aunt, Jessica Byrd. “Would have never thought it is my uncle, but if that’s what the DNA say, that’s what the DNA say.”

To choseaname - I don't know SA very well, but I do know I feel. Something is hinky with a 57 year old man/uncle stating a 16 year old girl/his niece is addicted to sex. This made my skin crawl. Let alone he was "trying to help her". Yuk!

Speaking of psychics, the post below is copied from http://www.justice4caylee.org/t20153-dylan-redwine-13-yo-vallecito-colorado-springs-co

Last week psychic medium John Edward, who claims to speak with the dead, watched the Nancy Grace show when she was covering Dylan Redwine's disappearance. He (John Edward) called the La Plata County Sheriff in Colorado and said he wanted to speak with Dylan's mother, but only to her, and only in person. He arrived in Colorado Springs, CO. by way of a private jet that landed after dark and met with Dylan's mother privately then within a hour and a half of his arrival he (John Edward) boarded the same private jet and left Colorado for destination unknown. There was no media coverage of the John Edward meeting. And the family has not given a statement so we do not know what he told Dylan's mother. But we know the FBI was in the house while John Edward was there. John Edward has not made any statement either.

I wonder how they know of this since they say there was no media coverage of the meeting and why would the FBI be involved in a psychic meeting with Elaine Redwine?

Sorry I can't cut and paste on my phone. I hope go all read this article.

Rush Limbaugh admits he hasn't read all the facts about the kidnapped women in Cleveland, but it sounds to him as if it could be welfare fraud. Unbelievable! He says three men with three women, not married. They get double welfare for adding a baby.

Then he found a way to blame Obama. Limbaugh guesses they voted for Obama. The city of Cleveland voted for Obama.

OMG! Do people really listen to Rush Limbaugh's ridiculousness?

Re: Letter from jail.

The letter goes on: "I should have told police everything. They are trying to say it was sexual. I promise you it wasn't.

They are trying to say it was sexual.
I promise you it wasn't.

Here, he has a prime oppotunity to issue a reliable denial.

I=First person singular.

Did not/Didn't=Past tense.

Event specific=Sexually assault Tia.

He doesn't say it,so we can't say it for him.

"What happened I will explain in time, but put it this way, it was an accident and I panicked. Stupid I know but for my stupidity I'm looking at 15 to 18 years. I regret it every second of every day.

"it was an accident and I panicked".

This is minimising/passive language.

"What happened I will explain in time, but put it this way, it was an accident and I panicked".

Here, he has an oppotunity again to tell us what happened. He doesn't,so we cant do it for him..

but put it this way, it was an accident and I panicked"

It has been said that the word "but" stands for "Behold the Underlining Truth." No matter what was said before this word the most important information in the sentence is what comes after this word.(McClish).

It is more important for him to tell us it was an accident and he panicked".Than to explain what happened.

"I know Christine (Tia's grandmother) and her family will never forgive me. I'm truly truly sorry xxx."

Truly X2,weakening his apology.

Hazell also wrote that he wanted to kill himself and asked God for mercy.

"God have mercy on me. Don't listen to the papers, like everyone else. I will tell you all in time. God I hate myself. I think about ending my life because if I don't someone will, that's definite".

Hazell also asked his father to send him money, saying: "I've got no money, no fags, no hope."

Order is important.

Money and,Fags come before hope..

John thank you for bringing Tia back to the blog. I read the letter written by Hazell.

From his letter written to his father:
They're trying to say it was sexual but I promise you that it wasn't. It was an accident and i was a prick to do what I done.

One mistake and my whole world has collapsed my own fault I know but don't listen to papers like everyone else does. I will tell you in time.
--
No mention of Tia
No remorse, a mistake,
One he says (that he was caught?) as he is, who he is, a pedo.

They're trying to say it was sexual.

It was sexual. As the evidence collected from the home proves. Including his camera found, with a photo of Tia', after death, as he posed her body, in graphic form, for his enjoyment, entertainment.

Within the evidence, he filmed Tia, as a voyeur, she in her own privacy, was photographed /video stalked by him.
--
The prosecution referred to a pathologist who examined Tia's body, who said marks on her skin suggested she had been deliberately moved into the position seen in the photograph after she died.

On the opening day of the trial, the prosecution alleged Tia's blood was found on an item belonging to her grandmother, which they claim suggests Hazell had a sexual interest in the youngster.

Jurors heard two memory cards found in the house contained "extensive pornography", including some of under-age girls, as well as several images of Tia and video footage the prosecution claimed was filmed secretly.
--
Video: http://news.sky.com/story/1087925/tia-sharp-hazell-took-photo-of-girls-body

Grandmother in testimony to say Hazell was a drunk and a druggie, never crossed her mind, he would hurt Tia. This is a little too late and not of much worth, as it is an oxymoron. He not within his own control, he a substance abuser, her mind not crossed, that Tia was in danger(alone in his presence) She allowed him to remain in her home. She is responsible for him living in her house, she procured his freedoms.

Her Grandchildren always came first. First in what? first in line to become his personal Cat Toy? first to be victim of him, as Tia was 12 yrs old, an innocent, defenseless. She to claim Fog.

Wasn't the grandmothers social page/pages found that she too was of the dark side, within sexual content, her Hobbies. I do recall this. Desensitized fits here.

Tia Sharp is the only victim. He cannot introduce this, nor say it.
His written to his father, he caught, he is now his father's son, a martyr.

The 3 women who were plucked from life as they knew it.

It is fair to say, that they are not to be classified as kidnapped victims. They are POW's. No different. I searched it on google, and it is agreed, yes they are (no different than) P.O.W.'s.

Perhaps it was Jocelyn (herself) the 6 yr old that provided them empowerment to survive. For Amanda to risk life and limb, to scream that day, was her lioness. Nothing worse could be done to Amanda, her daughter at risk, this to propel her - she to be waiting, praying for a single moment, he to leave during the day, praying someone would hear her. The seasons changed, she to know, Spring, people are outside. *Not insignificant, I cannot imagine being hostage in a dark basement, randomly being allowed to the main floor, to see sun peering and not be able to feel it upon your face. The human mind/body requires sun, if not it slowly deteriorates. Their spirits mortally wounded, their bodies to survive them.

They are posting in press that Ohio is a death penalty state. That Castro may face the death penalty. Death is to good for him. He should be put in Gen Pop for 48 hours, he to have a meet and greet with men who will show him how to Salsa, their way. Then Put him in solitary confinement for the rest of his existing breaths taken. Till he rots within his own misery, his mind.

Never mind about my post at 7:36. My apologies. First, I had her name wrong, it isn't Marilyn, it's Michelle. I googled her name and learned that her mother went to the hospital taking flowers but Michelle refused to see her mother, then learned Michelle had been released with no info as to where she went. This is so sad.

The woman needs help and her mother wants to help, now doesn't know where she went. The mother has an atty, maybe they will be able to locate Michelle and her mother can get follow up treatment for her.

Thanks for the links.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the links Vita. In one video, it does say that Michelle met with her mother during her hospitalization and she asked her to leave. Awful, awful, the living hell this poor woman has been through.

Apparently her brother was allowed in to see Michelle and perhaps this is where the info comes from where the grandmother says Michelle needs facial reconstruction and has lost the hearing in one ear as a result of her beatings.

According to these videos, Michelle had serious issues with her family prior to being kidnapped, with none helping her after her rape and the loss of her toddler in a custody dispute.

Although her mother did put out missing persons flyers over the years, thinking she was a run-away; how could she not be bitter against her family after watching news reports of vigils where the other two girls are being remembered and searched for, but she wasn't for eleven long years while she is being beaten, forced to endure rape, pregnacies and forced abortions, starved and tortured?

I wasn't able to conclude if it was her mothers' boyfriend who raped her earlier on, causing the pregnancy of the toddler she lost, but there were remarks that her mother testified against her in the loss of her custody battle for her child.

I seriously question that any of these girls could ever fully recover. As to tragic Michelle, I can't imagine that this poor woman will ever be able to live with all the hell on this earth she has been through at the hands of others. I'm sorry to say it, and I certainly hope not; but it wouldn't surprise me if she eventually commits suicide. I am so sad for them all.

Attack on the Torah? If you are an Orthodox Jew, I sincerely apologize for my comment.

It was my understanding that Orthodox rabbis have held that writing on a computer is not a permanent form and therefore God's Name can be typed onto a computer screen without violating your laws.

When an individual alters the name of God, many people, myself included, assume this person is an atheist. Such altering is becoming a more frequent behavior of atheists.

Anon @ 12:39, just let the atheists have their say. The here and now is the only say they will ever have. It won't matter in the final outcome as there will be none left standing.

In the end, NOBODY can defy The Almighty God, His word, or His chosen and only righteous Son Jesus, who came voluntarily and who was sent to show us the way home and to whom this earth has been given; it is His footstool.

No atheist can prevail, nor any other who denies Jesus The Christ; this is the greatest offense, if there were no others. They have their breath for today, know not from whence it cometh, deny and defy the one who gave it to them. Just let them be. Their time is short.

Anonymous said...

I agree, Anon @ 8:50. They shorten the spelling of His Holy Name because they despise and cringe at using the name of GOD. They believe a lie, coming from the father of all lies; being convinced they are too smart to accept a leader, one who is smarter and wiser than they are. For this denial, they lose their soul.

They despise the Name of Jesus, partly because He came by birth as a jew, but also because they would have to turn from their wicked ways. They are anti-semitic. Be assured, the jews know who Jesus is. They use His name every day, in one way or another. The Messianic Jews dug deeper, are spiritually enlightened and accept who Jesus was and is. They know. There are lots of them.

Many more (orthodox and reformed) jews, Godly people, learn and turn to Jesus before their end comes, many that we don't even know about. They learn, there is no other name by which we might be saved, they cry out to Him. Jesus loves them (and all of us); they are those that Jesus came to save. They were searching and waiting for a messiah; God sent them one.

The love and power in the Name of Jesus is the best kept secret on this earth. The atheist will discover this too late, I'm sorry to say. Anyone can call me a fanatic who wishes too, but a REAL religious fanatic is what THEY are going to be when they see Jesus split the eastern sky and THEY are left behind to suffer an eternal damnation. I don't want to be here when that day comes.

You may rest assured ABC, that I see Gods' beauty and love all around me, THAT being in His Son Jesus The Christ; but I also see that you fail to use the Name of Jesus, which is where all good things originate and end. HE alone is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end.

What? Are you ashamed to use His Holy Name? Then you are the one who is to be pitited. You are ashamed of His Name now, He will be ashamed of you in the judgement to come.

~ABC said...

Anon @ 12:15
The Creator of this Universe has many names. I prefer to use the one most appropriate to the situation. I see that you are filled with a desire to see others suffer and so I called on Divine Love. I have no problem saying Jesus, Jesuwah, Yahweh, Jah, Jehovah, The Great Physician, etc. I can even say God, although it is a generic word and perhaps the least respectful one might use.

There is no contradiction between conflicting interpretations of the Bible because the normative power, the "truth," of Scripture is considered to be rich enough to sustain a proliferation of interpretations and different expressions. All aspects of meaning are subsumed by the Book. There are ever-proliferating dimensions of meaning, free of any binding obligation to the historical veracity of the literal sense of Scripture.
