Derek Medina Admission on Face Book

Derek Medina admitted to killing his wife on Facebook.  This is a modern phenomena where he seeks empathy from a faceless multitude.

Im going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys takeCare Facebook people you will see me in the news” my wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope u understand me”

Here is the same statement, with emphasis added:

Im going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys takeCare Facebook people you will see me in the news” my wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope u understand me”

"I'm going" is not "I am thinking I may go", but far more definitive.  He knows.

Note first that he says "love you guys" so close to "my" wife.  He loves the strangers, or faceless multitude on Facebook, but not his wife.  It is interesting that he uses the possessive pronoun, "my" over the woman he killed, but not her name.

This is equivilent to an "Incomplete Social Introduction" (SCAN) indicating poor relationship, which is something of an understatement given his actions.  The FB world may not know his wife's name, which would prompt its use, but its absence is noted.

He loves them and already "miss you guys" is present tense.  It may be that he had more of artificial relationships (online) than he did in person.

"You will see me in the news" may indicate his desire for infamy (be known, even if in the negative).  It is said that the worst sentence a human can face is being sentenced to "inconsequential" in this life.  Prison or the death sentence is better than being of no consequence to anyone, so he addresses his audience with both "love" and longing "miss you"; though at the time, (present tense) he was engaging with them, likely recognizing that his time on the computer was about to end.

"my wife was punching me"; not "my wife punched me", as he uses "punching" (longer) and for him, this is sensitive and we are not left wondering why.  He does not say "I couldn't take it any longer" (past tense) but "I am not going to stand" as if the event has yet to come.  This inconsistency shows the weakness of his argument.  The self defense his lawyer may attempt to prove will reflect this weakness.

Note the need to explain the action.  This is highlighted in the color blue which is the SCAN technique's simple method of highlighting the most sensitive parts of a statement.

I have seen many crimes solved simply by this use of color, holding the copy of the statement up to the light, seeing 2 or 3 "blues" in a cluster, and knowing that within this cluster is the answer being sought.

We highlight:

"so, since, therefore, because" in blue, as it gives the reason for something, and we highlight "left, departed" when it is a connecting verb as it shows that there is missing information, as the subject, in his mind, is in the place "leaving" rather than the place arriving.  We seek to enter his mind and know what it is that he is thinking, even when it means missing information.

In Analytical Interviewing, the interviewer is taught to specifically target this area for questions.  The "area" is the time frame in the subject's verbalized reality.

We see a man who appeared to have more invested in online or written relationships than he did in person.  We also see a man who feels the need to both admit (not confess) his actions and justify them as well.  A self proclaimed expert on marriage, he justifies his homicide with the word "abuse" regarding his wife.  Deluded into thinking he was an expert on relationships, it is likely that people from FB may come forward to show instant messages, emails, or postings he made giving marital advice.  Perhaps he will become a prison celebrity of sorts, or, due to envy, a target for other killers.  In any case, his future is not bright.

Change of Language

Change of language should indicate a change in reality.  We have you "guys" with love and being missed, but when it comes to the knowledge of his crime, via Facebook, he now changes them to "people", which may suggest that he sees a difference between his Facebook "friends" and the "people" who will then read this on Facebook.  It is estimated that millions have read it.

Admission versus Confession

To admit to something is to acknowledge the deed.  To "confess" (greek, homo logeo, that is, to 'say the same') is to not only acknowledge the action, but to place it within moral boundaries, accept that it is wrong and accept responsibility.  It is to "say the same" or "agree with" the higher moral authority, which could be Divine, or, in the sense of the use of the Greek word, the 'legal' sense of the word, indicating awareness that it was not only done, but was against the law (immoral, illicit, wrong, etc).

Many will show an admission, but will not make confession.  We find embedded admissions at times, within statements, or admissions by pronouns, "my victim", or "we were losing daylight", while claiming to be alone, but these are not confessions.

We find this in theft which is why interviewers are taught to avoid morally charged language, such as "Did you steal the money?"

A thief may feel that the company owed him the money he took, so in his internal, personal, subjective dictionary, he did not "steal" but "took" it as he was supposed to get that raise, or reimbursement or whatever it is that he feels justified.  We will highlight in blue any need to explain why, or justify the action.

thanks, Randi!

Interesting to note the dropped pronouns in relation to the 'guys'

he doesn't take ownership of the guys like he does with his wife.

he goes from guys to facebook people, a change in language is a change in reality, what is the difference between 'guys' in his facebook post and facebook people?

Looking at it i wonder if he meant to insert a comma or fullstop after take care?
It makes sense speaking the words as in take care. Facebook people you will see me in the news since this is where he made his confession and posted the pic of his murdered wife.

Notice also he introduces a body position in relation to his wife punching him, "I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse" it doesn't flow, a logical, fluent explanation would be i was not going to take any more abuse.
Anything in the negative is sensitive, here he puts abuse as the last word with distance between himself (I) and the abuse.
So is used to explain why something happened, here it follows on immediately from the word abuse, who was abusing whom i wonder?

Why does he change from you to U?
The change is spelling stands out since he useed the word YOu reviously.
The change in 'language' comes after telling them why he did what he did and in relation to asking them to understand.

As it stands i have doubts about what actually went on between them up to the moment of her death.
He used the word punching as opposed to punch, he doesn't say why she was punching him, could it be she was defending herself?

I need more statements from him to come to a conclusion, right now i am thinking hmmm what isn't he telling us that led to the murder of his wiffe?

The first thing he says is he KNOWS he is going to prison or the death sentence.....the last bit is about how he was abused, as if it were an afterthought. If he really were abused that would have probably been one of the first things he would say, such as, I couldn't take the abuse anymore so I lashed back and killed her - which if that WERE true, then he would not KNOW he would go to prison (and if it were self defense why would he fear the death penalty?)

interesting they appear to be east indian and i have a east indian friend who punches her husband- don't know if its a cultural thing...but he's done various thing to negotiate with her to stop the punching- like joining a health club etc...she punches him when she's mad at him- in the shoulder I think- but she's small and he's big- doesn't really hurt him...i told her it was "acting out" behavior and she needed to stop it and deal with her feelings liek an adult...they moved agawy- but i'm going to email her this story....

i understand brah!
maybe she WAS punching him when he lashed out or decided enough is enough, and he probably "knew" she would do it again because it was an ongoing thing. he may have had other options to deal with the situation that may not have ensured he would go to prison, but he made the best choice.

"my wife", that possession, he "owns" her and can do what ever he likes with her.

even if the woman is little and cant punch hard, the psyche it plays on ones mind is just as hurtful.

This man is preparing his alibi. He is going to say in court that he killed her in self defense.

I am sad for her 10 year old daughter who was there. I pray she didn't witness the murder. I do hope she heard what led up to the crime and can clarify it for the investigators. Sad story. He wanted attention, obviously. Why did he go out of his way to take the picture and not call 911 if it was supposedly self defense...I call BS...
RIP Jennifer

Hi is one of the creepiest and demented looking people I've ever seen. He looks possessed. I saw an article with several photos of him with his wife, and he looked just as creepy as in this picture.

breaking news

The man suspected of abducting 16-year-old Hannah Anderson has been killed and his kidnap victim has been found safe in the Idaho wilderness, San Diego County Sheriff's department said this evening.

San Diego Sheriff Bill Gore said James DiMaggio was shot by an FBI tactical agent during an arrest attempt at about 4pm Pacific Time, near Morehead Lake in the remote Frank Church-River of No Return wilderness.

DiMaggio was suspected of killing Hannah's mother, Christina Anderson, 44, and her eight-year-old brother Ethan, whose bodies were found last Sunday night in his burning house in California.
Hannah's father was said to be elated at hearing his daughter was safe. He is due to be reunited with Hannah, who has been taken to a hospital, on Sunday morning.

'He was very relieved and very excited and looking forward to being reunited with his daughter,' San Diego Sheriff William Gore said.

The full details of how DiMaggio came to be shot by FBI tactical agents have not yet been released, but he was found after their campsite was spotted from the air.

Sheriff Gore told Fox 19: 'Hannah Anderson was located with DiMaggio. She appears well, was rescued and will be transported to a hospital in Idaho.'

Federal and local law enforcement officers had spent Saturday combing the rugged area in search of Hannah and her 40-year-old abductor.

The search in the Idaho wilderness - 1,000 miles from where Hannah's mother and brother were killed - began Friday morning, about 40 miles from Cascade, when DiMaggio's car was found at the start of a trail.

The isolated area, which has only a few cabins and limited cell phone service, was searched via helicopter and officers on horseback, according to NBC News.

Police revealed that two riders on horseback believed they saw DiMaggio and Anderson on Wednesday.

Hannah appeared healthy and safe at the time, leading San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore to conclude: 'As far as we know, it didn't appear she was being held against her will.
DiMaggio's Nissa Versa car was found in a remote, hard-to-reach area. It was covered in brush in an attempt to conceal it and its license plates were removed.

Authorities have not said whether they think Hannah knows her mother and little brother were murdered at DiMaggio's house.

Police said Thursday they feared that DiMaggio might have rigged the vehicle with explosive booby traps. A bomb squad was still working to reach the car Friday afternoon and inspect it for bombs.
The riders said they encountered a man and a young woman hiking in the wilderness on Wednesday. The pair had a tent and each was carrying a backpack.

DiMaggio is said to be an avid outdoorsman and authorities had previously said he could be hiding out at a campground or in the forest.

The Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness is 2.3 million rugged acres of cliffs and mountains and river valleys. It is the second-largest wilderness area in the contiguous United States.

When the riders returned home at the end of the day, they heard news reports of the nationwide hunt for DiMaggio and 'put two and two together,' San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said on Friday.
Friends say DiMaggio 'had a crush' on 16-year-old Hannah and that he stated he would date her if he was her age.

Police feared DiMaggio was armed with improvised explosives and would use them if confronted. They also believed he may have booby-trapped his abandoned car.

'Working on the theory that he abandoned the car, we think there is a possibility that the car might be rigged,' San Diego County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jan Caldwell told CNN.

A source told the Los Angeles Times that investigators believe Mrs Anderson was bludgeoned with a crowbar.

DiMaggio was described as being like an uncle to the children. But Hannah's friend, Marissa Chavez, painted a different picture.

Tania Cadogan said...

'He said he had a crush on her, but didn't mean it in an intimate way,' 15-year-old Marissa Chavez told The San Diego Union-Tribune. 'He said, "If I was your age, I'd date you."'
Marissa said she witnessed the exchange when DiMaggio was driving them home from a high school gymnastics meet.

Hannah asked Marissa to join her from then on whenever DiMaggio drove her to meets because she was uncomfortable with the attention, according to Marissa .

'She was a little creeped out by it. She didn't want to be alone with him,' Marissa said.

She also said that DiMaggio took her to Hollywood in late June or early July for her birthday, and that he cut the week-long trip short because he was upset that Hannah was paying more attention to her phone than to him.

'After that she never responded to his texts and e-mails,' Marissa told the San Diego newspaper.

DiMaggio was in a 'close platonic relationship' with Hannah, a sheriff’s statement said without further explanation.

Brett Anderson, father to Hannah and Ethan, flew to San Diego Tuesday to be interviewed by investigators and to plead with DiMaggio to return his daughter safely.

'Jim, I can't fathom what you were thinking. The damage is done,' he said outside San Diego County Sheriff's Department headquarters.

Addressing Hannah, he said he loved her very much and pleaded, 'if you have a chance, you take it. You run. You'll be found.'
Mr Anderson lives in Tennessee after moving away from the area for a job a few months ago.

On Tuesday, Mr Anderson joined hundreds of family friends and neighbors at a candlelight vigil in the parking lot of El Capitan High School in Lakeside, where Hannah was about to start her junior year.

Pink paper cups stuffed between holes in the fence read 'Pray Hannah' and dozens of white, blue and pink balloons lifted into the air.

At the vigil, Mr Anderson and other family members address the large crowd.

'Hannah will come back and Ethan and Tina, I love you both,' he said. 'We all love you. I know everybody’s here for support of all three of them and I want to thank you all. God bless.'
Her Facebook page reveals a popular teenage girl with a passion for dance. She was also a gymnast on her high school team.

'You would never see her without a smile on her face,' said Marlee Friszell, 16, who attended Hannah's birthday party last week.

Ethan Anderson liked to play football and baseball and go fishing, neighbors said.

OT-I just watched the beginning of a documentary "My Amityville Horror" with Danny Lutz, the kid whose parents were suspected of a hoax about the house being haunted. Anyway, he is the biggest liar I have ever seen, I couldn't get through more than about 30 minutes of it, but for some classic statement analysis principals I'd recommend it!

Hi Missy-

Thats the same thing I thought when I first saw his picture....he looks like a deranged nut job, which leads me not to believe a word he says. Not to mention he PROVED how deranged he really is by murdering his wife and then taking to Facebook.

Plus, I don't care if his wife was hitting him with a baseball bat..he didn't have a right to murder her and then post pictures of her dead body on FB.

Interesting! I watched some of "My Amityville Horror" and I agree! He gave too much detail, nearly everything he said about "past" incidents" was stated in the present tense with past tense bits sprinkled here and there AND his emotion was too precisely placed. He's a bad actor but a great guitarist! :D

What really got me was a psychiatrist who said that because of his detail and emotion he was quite believable!

Obviously this guy's claims of self-defense are bull--he stated that he first pulled a gun on her.
My impression of this whole thing, as disturbing as it is to think this, is that this guy did this crime so that he could post the crime and picture on facebook to get attention. It is too hard to believe that it was an "afterthought" to post the picture on facebook along with writing underneath the picture RIP (and then the name of his wife). He also looks incredibly stupid like maybe he has brain damage??? Obviously something deeply wrong with this guy.

drdebo: they appear to be east indian .... Where do I start? First, they do not appear to be east indian, west indian or anything of the sort. They are white/hispanic. You know, the same as your hero, George Zimmerman. It also appears MEDINA AND ZIMMERMAN have a lot more in common. lol
According to neighbor, Yoshi Dade, Medina is a self-proclaimed neighborhood watchman. Dade says, " He walks around with a concealed gun, so he tries to be the neighborhood watchman. He's always there late night and he's WEIRD to me he's always kind of LOOKING AROUND and trying to be a hero."

Finally, there is some stupid bitch ( screen-name, MariNY65)trying to deflect the attention away from this weird murderer by posting b/s "about herself" ( more bullshit, making up bullshit)and posting the same comment over and over. Sound familiar? Anywho, the shit is not going to work. What this creepy ass white/hispanic did to his wife is horrible. No amount of deflecting is going to change that. js

"According to an arrest affidavit by Miami-Dade Police, Medina told investigators he and Alfonso had a verbal dispute around 10:00 a.m., during which he grabbed a gun from a closet and pointed it at his wife. She reportedly told Medina she was leaving him before the dispute moved downstairs.

There, Medina told police, Alfonso began punching him. He retrieved the gun from upstairs and again confronted his wife, prompting her to pick up a knife. He told detectives that when he took the knife away, his wife began hitting him again, at which point he shot her several times."

1. She told him she was leaving him.
2. He grabbed a gun and threatened her.
3. She grabbed a knife to protect herself
4. He grabbed the knife from her, and to protect herself she started punching him.

5. He shot her.

This guy does not look like some poor abused man to me.

In fact, to me, something in his eyes to me looks evil.

I do think there are men that are abused but I feel like this man was the abuser and just used that to begin his defense. "I was abused"

Maybe someone can hook him up with Jodi Arias. They are both single now.

This guy has no chance at any defense at trial. He confessed to the crime (in writing) under no duress (can't claim he was pressured into confessing). He posted a picture of the crime. Case closed.

I'm sure you must be alluding to all the info that has come out about TM after GZ killed him in self defense. If GZ had taken a photo of TM and posted it online like a trophy, along with an admission, I imagine it would have told a different story about GZ's motives. You're comparing apples to oranges.

Derek Medina may be stupid enough to think he can use the self defense defense, but what he has described is retaliation. He even tells that he went upstairs to RETRIEVE THE WEAPON. That's retaliation and possibly premeditated murder. If his victim intended to hurt him I don't think she would have left the weapon upstairs!

ABC : I'm sure you must be alluding to all the infor that has come out about TM after GZ killed him in self defense... I'm sure I'm not. I am not comparing anything. YOU are trying to make this situation about Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman. Here is what I said, " According to Medina, she (his wife) was punching him, so maybe he was "standing his ground" just like Zimmerman. See, I did not use Trayvon's name. To make it more simple so you will better comprehend, I'm simply stating that Medina is likely saying, he killed his wife because he felt his life was in danger and at that moment he killed her to save his life. If you think I was comparing apples to oranges, then that is your problem. js

Still think him and Jodi Arias should meet. LOL

But all kidding aside, I am very curious to see how he pleads.

I mean, I never expected Jodi to come up with 3 seperate stories.

Yet that is what we had. And now, despite the fact that they were supposed to be back in court July 28th, well, were half way through the next month already and nothing.

So who knows.

But I think the facebook post was the beginning of his alibi building.

This statment in paticular.

my wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse
*********************************

There we have it.

He is claiming he could not stand any more abuse. He had no choice but to kill her. Cause a grown man could not take on smaller woman or for that matter, divorce her.

Maybe he will aslo end up with PTSD from the trauma he endured after years of abuse.

I think the guy is the abuser and full of shit. But what he decides to use as his defense we will have to wait and see.

Even Castro initially pleaded not guilty and the women were found in his home. Hard to deny that. Granted he later recanted and pled guilty (due to a plea to save his life) but still.

So this could go any direction.
