Remains Found In Florida

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The Horry County Police Department has contacted authorities in Volusia County, Florida, where human remains were found Thursday, to make them aware of the Heather Elvis case, HCPD authorities confirmed.
Lt. Robert Kegler said HCPD notified authorities in Volusia County because of the remains found there. He says that with the proximity to Orlando, and the circumstances of the Heather Elvis case are the reasons authorities in Volusia County were notified of the Heather Elvis case, but stresses there is no indication that the remains found are those of Heather Elvis.
According to NBC affiliate WESH, the skeletal remains were found in a bag along a Volusia County road Thursday near Deland.
John Jarvis picks up roadside trash after his daily jog. When he saw a large plastic bag lying on the side of the road near the intersection with International Speedway Boulevard, he pulled over a garbage can, planning to put the bag inside. But it was heavy and deteriorating.
"I brought the can down to load that bag in it, and that's when the discovery was made," he said. "It was just, uh, the skull was seen."
Jarvis, retired from the Navy, saw what he was sure was a human skull and called law enforcement.
"Anytime anyone ends up anywhere in a bag, it's suspicious," said Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson.
Johnson believes the bag has been there for awhile, because of depressions in the earth and vegetation growing into it. The bag was probably exposed to the road after some recent tree trimming.
Investigators on scene don't yet know what body parts were in the bag, or if there's anything else in the bag, clothing or personal items. That will be determined by the medical examiner's office.
Deputies were at the scene since just after noon and were thoroughly searching the wooded area beyond where the remains were found.
"What we'll start doing is looking for reports of any missing people. What evidence we can collect out of it. We don't know what all that is yet. This is very early in the investigation," said Johnson.

The solicitor explained that the gag order is a preemptive move to keep the trial in Horry County. They expect attorneys to begin filing motions for change of venue.

Thinking of little Myra today. My 12 year old stayed the night with my parents last night and my dad dropped her off at church to acolyte this morning. He texted to let me know she was there and I texted back to let him know I was almost there. An hour later my dad texted again to make sure I was with her. She's 12 and no one at our church would've left without making sure she was safe with an adult had I not made it. Myra is 2. Where was the double checking to ensure an adult was with her?

Swingers Sidney and Tammy Moorer Charged with Murder in Death of Heather Elvis!

I don't know if this has been mentioned on here before. If it has, my opologies.

The headline is mis leading though, that is, it doesn't mention anything about them being "Swingers". Just that they had open relationship.

I guess i would be helpful if we knew what the journalist definition of "Swingers" is?.

I can't see that they would in my opinion, given how jealous TM is.

Would she literally stand by and watch while SM is with another woman. And for that matter would he?.

It is well documented that they had an open relationship, but, were they "swingers"?.

Again, what is their Subjective Internal Dictionary Definition of an "open relationship?

Has anyone heard tell of this before?

Hi Anon 12:44

I agree. It makes no sense that Myra's dad knew she was not where she was expected to be, yet he did nothing to attempt to locate her, supposedly assuming that she was with her mom.

It also says a lot about these parents, that they apparently think this sounds like an innocent excuse for what happened to Myra, when in reality it is nothing short of criminal neglect.

P.S. Good for your daughter! I served on the altar when I was younger. I remember being nervous and not wanting to do it, but my mom told me that it was an honor, and I should feel lucky to be allowed to serve, because when she was younger only boys were allowed. I'm glad I did, and I intend to encourage my son to do so when he is old enough.

Unknown said...

Hi John-

I don't believe ANY sort of open relationship actually existed between TM and SM. I think TM stated that to alibi build, and minimize the impact that Sidney's affair had on their marriage. By claiming an 'open marriage' she is basically saying... 'We have no reason to kill Heather over an 'affair', because we have an open marriage, a sexual trist is no big deal to us'.

The evidence of TM's reaction to the affair proves the exact opposite is true. She repeatedly refers to their contact as an 'affair', she stalked and harrased Heather even after the affair had ended, she threatened Sidney and made him comply with a contract including being handcuffed to the bed and removing his means of contact with Heather by locking his phone and accompanying him to work, etc.

If there was anything 'open' about their relationship, it apparently wasn't to Sidney's benefit. I wouldn't be surprised to hear TM had a different set of rules for herself, but she clearly demanded total fidelity and dedication from Sidney, or else!

I agree Jen. No way would a dominant woman like Tammy want to share her man with another woman, even if Tammy was there (like a 3some situation).

I too served nervously, with a big nudge from my mom :) She had the same reasoning, girls weren't allowed when she was young. I come from a long line of acolytes, my maternal grandfather served, my dad did as well as both of my sisters. I'm glad my mom gave me that nudge and kept the tradition of service alive!

The mother of a missing 8-year-old is pleading for the return of her daughter, who police believe was taken by a janitor at the homeless shelter where the girl’s family resides.

Shamika Young told FOX 5 DC on Friday that she is afraid for the safety of her missing daughter, Relisha Rudd, after police obtained an arrest warrant for the shelter’s janitor, 51-year-old Khalil Tatum, charging him with the murder of his wife, Andrea Tatum.

Andrea Tatum’s body was found Thursday in a Red Roof Inn in Oxon Hill, Md., one day after Relisha was reported missing. The discovery came as police also found the white truck connected to the case and believed to belong to Khalil Tatum, according to the Washington Post.

Andrea Tatum’s body reportedly showed signs of trauma, but police did not reveal how she died.

According to The Post, police said that Relisha’s family allowed her to be cared for by Khalil Tatum, whom a relative said the family had come to know during the 18 months they resided at the shelter.

Relisha, 8, is 4 feet tall and weighs 70 to 80 pounds. Police did not know what she might be wearing when she disappeared because it has been weeks since she was last seen by close family members, the Post reported.

Police say Young asked Tatum to care for Relisha on Feb. 26.

Young, 27, is residing at a homeless shelter at the former D.C. General Hospital with four of her children and their stepfather, FOX 5 reported.

“Relisha is a sweet, quiet girl,” Jamila Larson, executive director of the Homeless Children’s Playtime Project, which runs programs at five D.C. shelters, including the one at D.C. General, told the Washington Post.

About midnight Thursday, authorities issued a bulletin that included pictures of Relisha, Later, police, acting on a tip, went to the Red Roof Inn and found Andrea Tatum’s body in a room. The white truck was in the Inn’s parking lot.

Law enforcement, cited by the Washington Post, said that Young, Relisha’s mother, did not initially consider her child missing and told officials that she had talked to her by phone as recently as Wednesday. But Young also had met with Tatum and asked him to return Relisha, the same officials told the paper. He promised to but did not follow through, the police said.

On Thursday, as police went room to room at the Red Roof Inn, several people staying at the hotel said they had not seen a young girl.

On reading this my first thought was WTH, closely followed by why does this not surprise me any more?

According to The Post, police said that Relisha’s family allowed her to be cared for by Khalil Tatum, whom a relative said the family had come to know during the 18 months they resided at the shelter.

Seriously?

What is meant by cared for?
Do they mean looked after her whilst her mom worked? (no mention of a dad anywhere in the picture)

Do they mean she lived with them full time?

Why did the mom allow someone she barely knew to care for her daughter?

Was this an informal adoption of some kind?

How many children does the mom have and by how many men?

Police did not know what she might be wearing when she disappeared because it has been weeks since she was last seen by close family members, the Post reported.
Judging by this comment i can only assume they cared for Relisha full time, if so, did the authorities know in order for welfare payments, welfare checks etc?

No mention is made of non close family members seeing her or even teachers or the pastor at their church if they attended one.

What about neighbors?

If he was the janitor and caring for her, where were they living and why wasn't the mom keeping regular chacks on her daughter?

This sounds more like an informal adoption.

Tania Cadogan said...

The mom unable to cope perhaps handed her daughter over, to what amounts to, a stranger.

Did she ask him or did he offer?

If she asked him, what were the circumstances surrounding the request?

A request was made feb 26th, was this her first request?

Had she asked at other times?

Was this the first time Relisha had stayed with a non family member?

If not the first time, when were the other times?

Was the janitor (or his wife) the first person she asked to care for Relisha?

If no, who else had she asked?

Had she asked others only to be refused?

What did she say as the reason for handing care over to a non family member?

Where is the father in all this?

When did Relisha move in with the janitor and his wife?

Was it his wife who asked to care for her?

Was it the wife who was asked?

Who is defined as a close family member?

Why had no close family member seen her in weeks?

What stopped them for checking on her, to check there were no problems, that she was healthy and happy?

Was it a case of out of sight out of mind?

When was she last seen by an independant witess such as a teacher?

Why contacting her by phone rather than actual visiting like moms should?

How do we know she last spoke to Relisha on wednesday as she claims?

Were CPS or LE involved with the family or the family known to them since they were living in a shelter?

A relative says the family had come to know the janitor in the 18 months they had resided at the shelter not that they knew him well or even that they knew him.

Were the janitor and wife paid to care for Relisha?

What did the mom gain from having her daughter cared for by a non family member?

Were CPS or the shelter informed?

Shrien Dewani is to be extradited to South Africa on April 7 to face trial for plotting the murder of his new wife on their honeymoon.

Dewani is due to appear in court on April 8, the following day, South Africa's Department of Justice spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga announced on Sunday morning.

It comes after Dewani lost his latest legal battle to block his extradition, exhausting his appeal rights - three High Court judges rejected all of his current grounds of appeal against removal from Britain.

The 33-year-old is accused of arranging the murder of his new wife, Anni, in November 2010 during their honeymoon in Cape Town.

Authorities in South Africa say Dewani paid for others to hijack their taxi, throw him out and shoot the 28-year-old before abandoning the vehicle. Dewani, who is compulsorily detained in hospital under the Mental Health Act, denies any involvement in his wife's death.

Speaking after Dewani's latest court battle to remain in the UK on the grounds of his mental illness, Anni's father Vinod Hindocha said: "We are quite happy with the decision and we hope to get the answers that we have been seeking for the past three and a half years.

"I really don't know what happened to my daughter. We need answers. We hope to get justice."

So far three men have been convicted over Mrs Dewani's death.

Prosecutors claimed that he was a hitman hired to carry out the killing.

Taxi driver Zola Tongo was jailed for 18 years after he admitted his part in the killing, and another accomplice, Mziwamadoda Qwabe, also pleaded guilty to murder and was given a 25-year prison sentence.

Woohoo

Let's hope there are no last minute appeals to stop his sorry ass being sent to South Africa.

I wouldn;t be surprised if his attornies file to the supreme court of the ECHR (european court of human rights) on some frivilous motion or he tries to harm himself claiming PTSD/depression or some other medical excuse.

Hey Hobnob,

Do not worry, Shrien Dewani's lawyers cannot file any motion before the European Court of Human Rights, as it is not a national appeals court, supreme court or constitutional court to see these matters.

Only if his fundamental rights as defined in European Convention on Human Rights are claimed to be violated, they can first exhaust national courts and take their case to the ECtHR to request a judgment of violation of a certain right. It only gives monetary remedy except for certain situations and his situation does not fit those.

If national appeals courts denied his appeals against extradition and he won't face death penalty in South Africa, he will have to return and stand trial.

What I don't understand about Heather Elvis' case is why call the pay phone back and why abandon Heather's car at PTL? The electronic contrail being what it is, between third party phone records and phone GPS's why so sloppy? Did they think that no body meant no arrest?

Part of me wonders if SM(?) called the pay phone back by mistake. For example, if Heather suddenly realized that she was in danger and opened the phone icon to call for help and SM(?) grabbed her phone and accidentally hit a 'call back' button on the panel. Maybe the plan was for him to call Heather from the pay phone and say he wanted to get back with her and then the the next call was suppose to be from Heather's phone to his "old number" and the story being that they/he told her to stop calling.

But why abandon the car at the PTL?

There are so many questions.

Angelina said...

Nic are you saying you believe they had Heather's phone at the time the payphone was called back?

Nic said...

Angelina, I think SM went to Heather's apartment after he made the phone call. I think the phone call was to butter her up/allow him back into her life/allowed him entrance to "console her".

If the call to the phone booth hadn't happened, it would've just looked like she was running after him when phoning from her phone to the Moorer's. SM's story was that he/they told her to stop calling. Maybe calling more than once "looked like" she was being ignored.

Maybe they thought the pay phone would provide the anonymity/alibi they needed while at the same time manipulating Heather to let him in? The Moorer's documented their "date night" (indecent exposure charges). So maybe they thought that no one would think that he would step out on his wife after having sex with her just a few hours beforehand. That Heather was on a date that night herself. The Moorer's phone was "at home" and the last person to have seen her, was her date. That they left for a 3 week vacation that very morning. ... Who would have time to kill someone in the small window of time?

LE said GPS showed the Heather's phone at her house and "SM's" phone at the Moorer's. But it wasn't SM's phone "anymore". It was Tammy's. So who would call Tammy? Not Heather... unless she was going to be brazen and go after 'her man'.

GPS has her going to PTL. Why? Why so close to the Moorer's? Why leave the car at PTL if she was killed there (as per warrant) and they had divers, etc., there? They had video surveillance. Did they really think they were the only ones? So many questions!

http://www.wlox.com/story/24968111/pond-clear-in-search-for-myra-lewis

MADISON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
On Thursday, dive teams from Madison and Ridgeland wrapped up their 2nd day of searching the pond across from Myra Lewis' home in Camden. The dive team tells us that the pond is clear as it relates to the search.
"We've overlapped the patterns," said Madison Fire Department shift commander Dwayne Meeks. "Did grid searches in the pond. We've overlapped the grid searches. So we have put our hands on the bottom of this pond."
Crews used sonar in the pond twice before sending in divers. The first time was the first day Myra went missing. They repeated the process on Tuesday. Meeks said the divers serve as a double check.
"It's stumps and logs and the divers can actually get up under those stumps and logs and check to make sure there's nothing in this pond," described Meeks.
Meeks said anytime you put a diver in the water, it's dangerous. The depth of the pond on Mt. Pilgrim Road can go from 2 to 14 feet quickly when divers are searching. They have to keep safety a priority.
The crews also used the search as a training opportunity for the two agencies.
"Clear this pond," explained Meeks. "That way there's no question of anything that could be in it."
The Madison County Sheriff's Department says the divers are part of the investigative process and not the result of a new lead.

MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The woman whose daughter has been missing for more than three weeks will remain in jail for now.
Ericka Lewis's probation revocation hearing was delayed until May 19th.
The reason? The original sentencing judge could reportedly not there for a scheduled hearing today.

District Attorney Michael Guest tells us Ericka has three violations of probation pending.
1) Felon in possession of a firearm
2) failure to pay court costs
3) failure to pay supervision fees.
The District Attorney also tells us his office had nothing to do with the removal of the other Lewis children from the home. He says that was DHS.
Since Myra disappeared on March 1, the Sheriff's office and FBI have put hundreds of hours into chasing leads, with assistance from the local District Attorney's office.
We also learned this morning her husband, Gregory Lewis, says he didn't even know that his wife had been convicted of food stamp fraud.

He tells us that there are many things he wasn't aware of, saying he works long hours.
Myra Lewis' Grandmother told us she believes Myra was abducted.

You'll hear what she had to say tonight on our newscasts.
For now, Ericka Lewis is being held behind bars and without bond.http://www.wmctv.com/story/25057430/myra-lewis-mother-to-remain-in-jail-for-now

Well, doesn't citing "a gag order" as the reason for not giving the ID to media...kinda scream "WE FOUND HER"?

I mean... how many missing persons cases involving a gag order are there in the general region where these remains were found?

And, since the family of another missing young woman still "have hope" it makes me suspect that, (initially)when the roadside remains were found, they were told by someone that female remains were found, and investigators were working to determine if they could belong to their daughter.

So we have:
human remains found roadside in the region where the Moorer's traveled right after Heather went missing. That are likely female... AND tied to a gag order sealed case.

I'll be very surprised to learn that this ISN'T Heather :(

Myra was last seen at her Mount Pilgrim Road home in Madison County on March 1, 2014, and since then, authorities have launched an extensive ground and water search for the child. The FBI has established a $20,000 reward for anyone with information leading to Myra Lewis and the case is still high profile in the Mississippi region. An active Amber Alert remains for Myra although there is no suspect or vehicle description reported in the case.

Those with information on the case or who would like to report a tip may do so at the FBI Jackson, Mississippi office at 1-601-948-5000. Please call 911 in an emergency situation.

During the investigation, authorities discovered an unregistered firearm at the home of Myra Lewis’ mother, Ericka Lewis. Ericka Lewis was currently on probation and the weapon violated her terms. She was taken into custody and remains in jail. She is scheduled for a court hearing on March 24, 2014. Ericka Lewis arrest is not directly related to her daughter’s disappearance.

On March 10, 2014, the FBI Jackson, Mississippi branch issued a press release regarding the reward. It is posted below in its entirety.

“Myra was reported missing by her family on Saturday, March 1, 2014. According to family members, she was last seen between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m., playing with her sister outside her home on Mt. Pilgrim Road in Camden, Mississippi.

“Since her disappearance was reported, multiple state, local and federal law enforcement agencies have participated in a massive, collaborative search effort. Significant resources have been dedicated to this investigation, including extensive ground and air searches and utilization of specially trained search teams.

“We are confident that information will be uncovered which will lead to Myra’s return, and we continue to solicit the public’s assistance in locating this little girl,” stated FBI Special Agent in Charge Daniel McMullen.

“Myra is 37 inches tall and weighs approximately 27 pounds. She was last seen wearing white or khaki-colored pants, a turquoise sweater with a bear on the front, and pink tennis shoes.

“Anyone with information concerning the disappearance of Myra Lewis is encouraged to call the FBI at (601) 948-5000, or the Madison County Sheriff’s Department at (601) 859-2345.”

This is interesting.
This is a very valid point, why would she call his phone since he had originally called from payphone and Heather knew it was Tammy's phone, also had been told Sidney's leaving Tammy for her. Someone else using Heather's phone to call Tammy? It's possible.

aren't there apps that allow a person to spoof almost any number onto the incoming call id to someone's phone?

And, would a forensic computer tech be able to easily tell if one was used?

I've thought for long time it was very possible Heather went to somebody else for help -- that oerson was like -- give me that phone lets give these people a taste of their own medicine. And something went further awry. It doesn't make sense that Heather would call Tammy direct while alone - as scared as she was of her.

I think this: if there moorers meant to eliminate traceable contact that night they would have KNOWN they had failed the first time heather called Sidney's phone and at that time in all likelihood they would have postponed their murderous plans to a later date when they would not belinked to her dissapearance.

or if they did not care about eliminating traces of phone contact -- then the reason Sidney was calling from payphone was because he really did want a private converstaion with Heather, he likely really did want to leave his wife -- and Heather likely would have still known not to call Sidney on his real phone -- and so all the more questions surround why her phone called his phone so much that night.

Angelina said...

One thing I don't understand. I can believe Sidney wanted to leave Tammy, but timelinewise how did he fit in the private payphone call to her within the around town sex with Tammy? After?
If this was his desire or intention, to leave, how did it morph into murder plans with Tammy?

Anonymous said...

I don't believe he wanted to leave his kids or wife for heather, if he had such feelings for her to leave his family he would not have been around town having marital relations, or smiling in those pics afterwards.

lots of people continue to sleep with spouse that they want to leave. leaving is a process. stopping sex can be alarming and give partner you are tryint to leave too much info before you have fully layer out your exit plan for yourself.

IMO it's very unlikely Sidney wanted to play out his affair with Heather with Tammy as stand in. That sounds all for Tammy's bennefit and rather humiliating for Sidney.

somanyways said...

I guess I don't think it did morph into murder plans. I think Sidney really did want to leave Tammy. I don't think it was like a -- let's leave tonight thing -- I think he just wanted to let her know is thoughts and intentions. Consider how it might effect him to know he was going to live out their affair that night with Tammy as replacement -- it might stir up sentimentality -- it might make him miss Heather and want to call her and tell her he intends to leave his wife and he still loved Heather and he doesn't know where or when he just wants her to know he's gonna figure it out. And that's why Heather sat there and posted sad stuff and took no immediate action -- it wasn't about immediate action -- it was just about Sidneys thoughts and changing feelings.

this seems most realistic to me.

why Heather then called pay phone and sidneys pohone all night and her can ended up at PTL -- I don';t know --

If he was going to leave tammy for heather than I doubt tammy would have talked him into helping her kill her, if tammy killed her on her own And he was going to leave tammy for her I would think he would have rolled on tammy already, none of the actions or circumstances we know so far support him wanting to leave tammy, other than the friends statement about what the pay phone call was about. Which could have just been a lie on his part to Lure heather out.

I can believe he would still have sex with Tammy while wanting to leave her for Heather, and I do believe he could have called her just expressing his feelings without immediate action on his part being intended. But I still just don't understand how it could have morphed into murder plans that very night? I can understand if Tammy found out he had called, somehow, (how though would she have found out if it was from payphone?) or maybe just suspected because she realized Sidney had snuck out and maybe was calling heather, but still, a person's heart leads them, if Sidney wanted to be with Heather, how could Tammy have gotten him to switch gears like that from mushy love feelings to murder of the one he loved? In other words, I get Tammy planning murder but not Sidney.

somanyways, the thing that struck me about Heather's Tumblr acc't is the manner in which the images were posted. It was rapid fire. It's like she had them in a queue and then just posted them all at the same time, coincidentally after an emotional call from SM. I don't know. The stuff she posted wasn't like decor stuff that she had researched and would have collected over an evening and then pull from an electronic file to be able to post/share later. IMO, the images and poetry/sayings, etc., all require surfing/finding/reading/absorbing being touched by them, then posting.

I don't have any kind of social network site, so maybe I'm wrong about that.

Recall as well that earlier in the investigation around the time the indecent exposure charges came out, there was discussion that Tammy sent an 'unsolicited' (my word) picture of her vagina to Heather and that was what one of the charges was about. Heather may have been crying on the phone with Sidney about the harassment and he might have spent some time trying to placate her/easing her mind agreeing that it was nasty and that he couldn't believe she did that and say then that he was leaving her because she was just too out of control and harsh and jealous and, and, and he wanted to leave her and be with Heather. ???

I wonder if Big Brother records pay phone conversations, LOL

"Swingers" are very different from an "open marriage" And i remain befuddled why journalists keep touting either in connection with this couple. Other than TM's post there is NOTHING to back the claim, not even SM or family. At most, they can claim exhibitionism.

Back to Tumblr and the information they found at the Moorer's on the Elvis family. Maybe Tammy hacked Heather's Tumblr acc't? It would be easy for LE to see from which ISP address the information came from, non?

eh - she prob just found a bunch of them in one or a few locations and posted them all because they all spoke to her equally. I think it's kinda normal behavior to do a rapid fire -- much like a quick long worded rant online - etc.

it does make her "killing time on tumbler' behaviour after pay phone call make sense if he said - wait there I'm coming over. and explain her brevity on phone with roommate -- if she was expecting company. & explain the call backs if she's like hey it only takes 5 min to get anywhere in this town -- what happened to you. ( that's assuming he did not show up)

Thanks Red Ryder,
I guess if the remains are id'd to be someone other than Heather, le will or might release that info. It could be anyone. But if it's Heather, we won't hear about it. It could take a while to id the remains.

Here is an article I hadn't seen before.
"The bag appeared to be full of debris and was about 2 feet in diameter, Jarvis said.

“There were roots growing through the bag,” he said. “It looked like it had been there over a year.”
Jarvis could not confirm whether the bag contained a full human skeleton, but said the skull appeared to be that of a young person — not an infant, but not an adult. He said there was also deteriorated fabric in the bag that looked as if it might have been a yellow or tan bedsheet."

This is sounding like it is not Heather. Still, it is someones's loved one and will be a relief of sorts to get closure and lay this person to rest properly.
