Beverly Carter: Suspect Statement from Jail

LITTLE ROCK, AR - " I mean, the first thing you do is panic."

"You" = distancing language.

Arron Lewis' tears fell to his jumpsuit as he talked from behind

bars -- the suspect now charged with Capital Murder in the death of realtor Beverly Carter.

On the night of Sept. 25, investigators said Lewis scheduled an appointment with Carter to look at a

house in Scott.

"It didn't have nothing to do with her showing a home," Lewis said. "Just a place to meet."

That he says "it didn't" indicates a knowledge that something happened.  "Just a place to meet" has no pronouns.
We asked Lewis how he met Beverly or how he first heard about her.

"Going on that scale is pretty much what I'm waiting to speak to my lawyer on," he said.

How he met Carter should now be considered a sensitive topic to the subject.
What Lewis did say is that Carter willingly got in to his car that night.

"I never denied her going with me. As far as kidnapping, I've never kidnapped anybody. "

The subject is unable to say "I didn't kidnap Beverly" instead changing the name to "anybody" and using "never" instead of "did not."

"You're saying that Beverly got in your car on her own free will that day?" KARK's Shannon Miller asked. He nodded.

Lewis didn't give details on what happened between that moment and Carter's death.

"You made a big mistake and you better be hoping no one finds out, " he said.

The use of "you" is distancing language from making a "big mistake" but note the inconsistency of distancing language to follow:

Investigators found Beverly's body in a shallow grave nearly thirty miles from Scott. on the property of a place Lewis used to work.

"I can say this much, we were already there," Lewis said.

"We were already there" is to tie himself and Beverly together, at the place of mistake.

"At what point did you get there?" Shannon asked? "Was it that Thursday night?" Again, Lewis nods yes.

Lewis alleges Carter's death was an accident and that authorities wouldn't buy his explanation based on his criminal history.

Lewis was asked what happened in that moment of panic.

"You've tried about five different ways," he said. "I really just want to give in."

Attempts to explain:  "you", distancing language;

Wanting to give in:  Pronoun "I"

It's not the first time Lewis let his guard down in front of our cameras. On Sept. 30, Lewis said he

wanted to plead guilty and get it all over with.

Now in prison, Lewis maintains his innocence .

"I didn't kill her, I didn't murder her."

Does the subject believe the car did it?  Note the change from "kill" to "murder", and next note the answer is read through by the interviewer, who did a good job:
"You've never physically harmed a woman?" asked Shannon.

Lewis' responded, "I've never laid my hands on a woman period."

This is a "yes or no" question, which is avoided, making it sensitive.
Next, note that he changes the Interviewer's language and introduces "my hands" into the equation.

It should be considered that the subject may have caused the death, but indirectly, through a means that did not include his hands directly upon Beverly.

We saw something similar to the man who gave a young woman enough drugs to over dose her.  He was able to say that he did not kill her; the drugs did.
As he awaits trial, Lewis sits in solitude-- sorry for everything that's happened.

"It hurts on a daily basis, just because you know that what happened was an accident, doesn't mean everything is okay."

Peter,
Thought you would find this interesting. Lena Durham is an actress who wrote a book which has sparked controversy. Here are the passages in question along with her recent statements.

Lena Dunham Responds to Accusations That She Molested Her Younger Sister Grace Dunham

We assume that both Ms. Dunham and her attorneys are capable of reading Ms. Dunham’s book, which contains the following direct excerpts:

“Do we all have uteruses?” I asked my mother when I was seven.

“Yes,” she told me. “We’re born with them, and with all our eggs, but they start out very small. And they aren’t ready to make babies until we’re older.”

I looked at my sister, now a slim, tough one-year-old, and at her tiny belly. I imagined her eggs inside her, like the sack of spider eggs in Charlotte’s Web, and her uterus, the size of a thimble.

“Does her vagina look like mine?”

“I guess so,” my mother said. “Just smaller.”

One day, as I sat in our driveway in Long Island playing with blocks and buckets, my curiosity got the best of me. Grace was sitting up, babbling and smiling, and I leaned down between her legs and carefully spread open her vagina. She didn’t resist, and when I saw what was inside I shrieked. “My mother came running. “Mama, Mama! Grace has something in there!”

My mother didn’t bother asking why I had opened Grace’s vagina. This was within the spectrum of things that I did. She just got on her knees and looked for herself. It quickly became apparent that Grace had stuffed six or seven pebbles in there. My mother removed them patiently while Grace cackled, thrilled that her prank had been such a success.

And this:

As she grew, I took to bribing her for her time and affection: one dollar in quarters if I could do her makeup like a “motorcycle chick.” Three pieces of candy if I could kiss her on the lips for five seconds. Whatever she wanted to watch on TV if she would just “relax on me.” Basically, anything a sexual predator might do to woo a small suburban girl I was trying.

And this:

I shared a bed with my sister, Grace, until I was seventeen years old. She was afraid to sleep alone and would begin asking me around 5:00 P.M. every day whether she could sleep with me. I put on a big show of saying no, taking pleasure in watching her beg and sulk, but eventually I always relented. Her sticky, muscly little body thrashed beside me every night as I read Anne Sexton, watched reruns of SNL, sometimes even as I slipped my hand into my underwear to figure some stuff out.

Lena Dunham's Tweets after accusations...

@Lena Dunham
And by the way, if you were a little kid and never looked at another little kid's vagina, well, congrats to you.

I told a story about being a weird 7 year old. I bet you have some too, old men, that I'd rather not hear. And yes, this is a rage spiral.

Sometimes I get so mad I burn right up. Also I wish my sister wasn't laughing so hard.

Thanks, Peter.
Is there enough to comment on or to do Statement Analysis on yet?

I find this very vague and I have no idea what happened to that poor lady.

The man worked as a truck driver. Often drivers are required to pass "scale" requirements and have the safty of their trucks inspected. He states:

"Going on that scale is pretty much what I'm waiting to speak to my lawyer on," he said.

The statement indicates high sensitivity. Where he met her is a major problem for him.

When he was captured, he had a knife. Some of his statements are true. Either he knifed her, drugged her (my guess) or simply suffocated her for some odd reason. Ms. Carter's car was found at the house she was to show.

After the ordeal (kidnapping, murder, wreck, etc.) he calls a neighbor to come tow him out of the mud. Yes, the moron got stuck!
If his wife is involved, why wasn't she called? Sounds like they are throwing someone in the arena to lie for his sorry arse to keep him from the needle (which seems weird, too, judging from his mental state). Can't help but feel sorry for his public defender. He's toast!

I'd be interested in her statements.

I am female. Me and my female cousin (we were about a year apart in age) often looked at and touched each other when we were young. But It stopped when we were about 8-9. I'm
Concerned that she was doing this at age 17. By age 17 I had a boyfriend and was no longer curious in that way.

Peter, the picture that is shown with this is not Ayla. Was that intentional?
I think it is Baby Gabriel but I'm not sure of the name. He is the little boy whose mother claims to have given him to a couple in a park and who wrote to the boyfriend to say something about the baby boy being blue and in the diaper bag. There was controversy about a woman she met in an airport and became friends with and how she may have been wanting to adopt the baby. I forget the name but the mother is in jail.
