Kenneth Wagnor Statement Analysis

Kenneth Wagner

This from Christianpost.com with analysis added after the quotes.  You can read the entire article there.

Indiana Pastor Davey Blackburn of Resonate Church was talking with his college roommate, Pastor Kenneth Wagner, on the telephone as his wife, Amanda, lay dying after an attack during a home invasion two weeks ago.

Wagner, who is pastor of United Church in Delaware, is first mentioned in the affidavit of probable cause against Amanda's suspected killer, Larry Jo Taylor Jr., 18, and his accomplice, Jalen Watson, 21. A copy of the document was shared with The Christian Post by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday.

On the morning of Nov. 10, when his 28-year-old wife was fatally shot in the head, arm and back, Blackburn told detectives that he left his home at about 6 a.m. to go to the L.A. Fitness gym located at 4015 Shore Drive in Indianapolis.
At approximately 7:10 a.m. Blackburn said he left the gym and was talking with Wagner at the time.

"Blackburn stated that he remained on the phone on the way home and was still on the phone when he arrived home at approximately 7:30 a.m. He stayed on the phone in his driveway until he entered (house) around 8:20 a.m.," the statement continued.

When Blackburn entered his home he found Amanda "face down in blood on the living room floor."

Speaking at Amanda's funeral five days later on Nov. 15, Wagner revealed that he would speak with Davey religiously every Tuesday from 7–8 in the morning. He explained how close he was to Davey and Amanda and said he was horrified to learn that Amanda had been killed.

"Tuesday I was sitting at lunch and I received a call that rocked my world forever. David had walked in and found his wife in the condition that she was in. And what you need to know about this story is that me and Davey would speak every Tuesday morning from 7–8. Davey had gotten off the phone with me, finished our conversation and walked in and found Amanda," said Wagner.

This is an important statement.

Blackburn got home at 7:30AM but remained in the car for the next 40 minutes while Amanda Blackburn lay bleeding on the floor.

*Did Blackburn, during this one hour regular call, always stay outside, or did he complete the call in the house, where Amanda was?

*Was there something so sensitive about the conversation that he needed to keep this from his wife?

*Was it his norm to remain in the driveway during morning calls, or would the conversation continue in the house?

"Tuesday I was sitting at lunch and I received a call that rocked my world forever.

There is no need for us to tell us what his body posture was, but it is important to him.  This is often a signal of a slight increase in tension or importance.  "do your homework!" versus "Sit down and do your homework!" with an increase in importance.

Next:

Note the language of impact:  "rocked my world", with the strong, "my" and not "our" even though what follows next is with his wife.

David had walked in and found his wife in the condition that she was in.

Note "the condition she was in" is distancing language which, in context, may be appropriately so:  she was still alive.  He also may not want, or may have been advised not to, reveal the actual condition.  This too would justify the passive-like feel to the language, making it appropriately distant.

Note that "my world" is very close and personal venus the sudden change.  Police may have asked him not to reveal this detail.

And what you need to know about this story

Here is a signal that he knows more than what he says.  Please keep in mind that signals of deception, via withholding information are sometimes found in nurse, doctors, police, etc, when they have been asked not to, or are bound under laws of confidentiality.

Having said this, "what you need to know" has the additional emphasis of "need", rather than "and what I can tell you..."

This shows that there was a "need" for the knowledge that follows.  What would people "need" to know?  He does not make us wait long for the answer:

"about this story" is to call it a "story", which is not expected.  Is this, too, due to be told not to reveal details?  Or, is "story" the language given to him, as Davey, himself, used it?

Or...

is this alibi establishment language?

Does Wagnor show an awareness that he needs to help his friend establish an alibi?  Perhaps.  The body posture increase in tension is that this call, itself, is increasing it at the time of the statement being made since it is in his recall.

is that me and Davey would speak every Tuesday morning from 7–8.

This is what the public has a "need" of knowing.  This is to flag the "normal" aspect of their conversation.  He now goes out of sequence, going back to what they did "every Tuesday morning from 7-8."

"Normal" is used in several ways, but they are related.

In Statement Analysis we always flag "normal", no matter how it is worded, for sensitivity.

When a person calls himself or herself "normal" it is an indicator that the person has likely been labeled "not" normal, by self or by others;

When a situation is called "normal" it is a signal that it was anything but "normal."

Even young children being read to recognize this:

"It was a day like every other when..."

causing them to perk up their attention as something not very ordinary is about to be said.  It is a common signal of deception, especially in criminal statements where the subject wishes to conceal what happened;

"Normal" as in alibi establishing.

This could be of a result of two things:

a.  public suspicion.
b.  His own private suspicion.

In public suspicion, if the subject recognized that people are going to be asking, "Hey, why did he stay on the phone while Amanda lay dying?" in suspicion, here he answers it with "this is normal for him to be on the phone..." as an answer to the allegation or suspicion.

In private, however, if he is not aware of any accusation, he is "cutting it off before it happens", which reveals his own moment of doubt of his friend, such as, "Oh, no, I hope Davey is not involved!", even if just for a single moment.

Question:  how might we know?

Answer:  short of asking him, we look to see if there is any indication within his own language that he might entertain a doubt about his friend, Davey?
This does not mean Davey is associated with the killers, but that his friend even entertained, for a moment, that Davey could be.

Davey had gotten off the phone with me, finished our conversation and walked in and found Amanda,

Note the order:

1.  Davey got off the phone
2.  finished our conversation
3.  walked in
4.  found Amanda

One may consider that the finish of a conversation precedes getting off the phone.

If this is out of chronological order, it may suggest a moment of doubt; that is, a sensitivity indicator where the subject is carefully guarding his words, and not speaking from experiential memory.

It suggests the need for alibi, and perhaps speaking from memory of what was said earlier, rather than from simple experiential memory,  which reveals doubt.

Please recall the words of his mentor, who knew Davey before he was married to Amanda.

He stated that he "knew" that there was something "not right about that young man" using the distancing word "that", confirming that he was suspicious.

Did Wagnor feel the same?

The word "with" shows distance between people.  "We ended our call" is to show the conclusion but from a perspective of unity.  He used "with" to separate himself from Davey in his wording.

In college, Blackburn said he was docked two full letter grades for just one inappropriate remark in  a sermon.

He does not reveal what remark would drop him this significantly, but it was enough for the professor to not simply admonish, but actually punish by 2 full letter grades.

Childhood.

We look for psychological disturbance in the childhood of murder suspects, along with an outworking or evidence of it in adolescence.  Hence, the background, for example of Casey Anthony showed that she buried pets where she buried her daughter, and accused her father of sexual molestation, and "suddenly' began lying in high school where she eventually even lied about being pregnant, having a job, and later, about having a nanny.  The links between fabrication and murder are well known.

Blackburn stated that he told a lie in high school but withholds what the lie was, naturally arousing the questioning from readers.  He further fuels interest in saying the single lie was such that teachers, faculty, his peers and parents turned away from him and in this year, they moved out of town and away from his father's church.  It is very difficult to know what lie would be so bad as to impact both peers and adults, but, he said, it destroyed his reputation.  He showed no empathy towards those he devoted. Lies that ostracize adults are usually met with sympathy from peers, as high school boys, in particular, are known for bad behavior in high school.

"I got a phone call (from someone), he explained what had happened to Amanda and then he said it happened last night. I said 'that's impossible because I talked to Davey this morning,'" said Wagner.
"I began to hope, pray that it was impossible, that it wasn't reality. The texts begin to flood. The calls begin to flood, and I realized it was true. So I go home and walk in the house and tell Sherry 'I've got horrible news,'" he said.

"Sherry is my wife. We've been married for seven years. We got married three weeks before Amanda and Davey. And I watched my wife just fall to the floor and experience some of the deepest sorrow that I have ever experienced in my life," he added.

He said he and Davey went to Southern Wesleyan University in South Carolina together where they played baseball for four years.

"We were roommates together and so during that time a lot of interesting things happened. I know a lot about their relationship that most people don't. I've been around since the days when Amanda gave Davey up for Lent," he said to laughter.

In Statement Analysis, as jokes are made, we still listen to the words chosen.  This is why the "Crazy Davey" comment is a revelation that the mentor "knew" something was "wrong" with Davey.

Here, the joke is made that Amanda "gave up" Davey for Lent.  The gist of the joke is to portray Amanda in need of getting away or giving up Davey.

The mentor said that he offered Davey the job because of Amanda, as if Amanda would "fix" what was wrong with Davey.

People joke about what is real.  When there is no correlation, there is no sense to the joke.

An analyst said he was teaching in the murder capital of the US and stated this, only to have a female officer quip, "I should drop my husband off here" out loud.  Since she spoke out loud and made the class laugh, he addressed her.

"You have thought about killing your husband?", he asked.
"No, it was just a joke" she answered.

After the seminar she approached him and asked why he asked her that.  He said that language comes from somewhere, not from a void.  She admitted, "I am getting a divorce and I have thought that it would be so much easier if he were to just die."

Here, Kenneth Wagnor jokes, too, and it is the same theme as the mentor:

"I don't know if you guys have heard that story but that's a good one," he quipped.
"We were riding in the car one day and we were talking about Amanda and we were like, you know Mark, his cousin, was like, 'Davey, you always wanted a girl who loved Jesus more than she loved you.' And that was what he had in Amanda. But me and Gavin looked at each other and we were like, 'that is the most irrational decision she could have ever made.' We were mad for him, Gavin, right?" he quipped again.

The rest of Wagnor's quotes reveal a genuine, heart felt, sober view of the murder, with personal connection; language specifically missing in Davey Blackburn's own.

It is likely that both the mentor and friend have entertained the thought of,

"Could he be involved?"

"Today what I want to tell you is that there are no words that I can say that are gonna be magical. There are no words I can present to you that are going to take the pain away … to cause an instant healing. But my prayer is this: that we would all take one step closer," he said.

Conclusion:

Kenneth Wagnor showed how deeply impacted he and his wife were at the death of Amanda, but indicates sensitivity, which may be directly the result of having momentary doubt about the possibility that Davey had done something wrong.

Even his joking is to portray Amanda as not rational to be with Davey.

Davey's mentor also choked, but from the abundance of words, even jokes, come information and knowledge.  He not only plainly told us that something was wrong, but within his inability to describe is often found diagnosis.

It is likely that his mentor also had his doubts when he first heard of Amanda's death.

Both, as supporters of Blackburn, have likely seen the same bizarre wording that the rest of the world has seen, and are thrust into having defend him.

The high school lie is examined in more detail.

Amanda Blackburn died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head two days after her husband brandished a gun during a church service. Amanda's killer is in custody.

Great perspectives - nothing new under the sun. For something a little more lowbrow, always reminds me of an amusing description by Garrison Keillor of how the Lake Wobegon Brethren kept fragmenting into increasingly smaller groups because none of them could agree with each other.

For those who knew Amanda well, you know she's sun-tanning on the shores of Heaven sipping her virgin pina colada . . . Loving paradise!
Concerning DB's tweet above: I made several observations.
Amanda was of pale complexion... He is describing her as he wished she was...
==========
DB's text is crass/banal but your interpretation is void of evidence and SA. Amanda tanned just like she lightened her hair and had her nails done. A salon thing. Some women, young and old, starting as early as high-school, tan year round, using salons in the winter, to maintain a California look. Advisable or not from a skin cancer POV, they do it. Amanda was into this look before she met and married Davey. Maybe she maintained it.

Amanda's sister tans extensively. A lot of her pictures look like she could be Amanda's mom. How many years separate the sisters?

*Too much tanning ages a person.

Just thinking about Amanda's father and how he seemed in Sunday's sermon to buy into Davey & PN's idea that Amanda's death is the catalyst for an unprecedented surge in Christianity, while breathing life into the dead bones of sit-in-the-pews Christians.

So he gave Davey a gun after they moved to Indianapolis? Presumably that was because he knew his daughter's family was in a dangerous city and needed protection?
Yet his son-in-law drove off in the dark and left his daughter and grandchildren in an unlocked house?
I just don't see that as God's doing.

How can the father of a terrorized and brutally murdered daughter see it as a good thing?
How can he not be on his face before God, still asking , "Why? Why?"

If I remember right, it was a grampa that gave the gun??? Was it the air gun he used in the sermon?

I SO don't want to believe that PB is behind DB '100%' - even though I think he said something to that effect in his sermon on Sunday. I did catch a glimpse of disapproval when DB accused the good folks of that church of being dead bones. That was RUDE.

I doubt Amanda's father's brain will let him comprehend that the gun he gave his son in law killed his daughter. Trying to accept that as a possible truth would be extremely painful. Same reason members of the church are explaining away Davey's odd behavior as him being a godly man focused on forgiveness. It allows them to tie things up in a nice bow and not consider the fact that they may have put their faith in a man who is a cold blooded killer.

Plus, all this forgiveness talk. Have these gangbangers even asked for forgiveness? How can you grant forgiveness when not asked for it first?

This is part of Christianity - "Father,. forgive them for they not not what they do."

"Forgive me my trespasses as I forgive those who trespass against me."

Forgiveness does not wait to be asked.

He continues to disrespect his wife, even after her death. He said "what was so great about Amanda is that she was so selfless that she didn’t want her life to be put on display, ever". So he puts her funeral for the whole world to see, reads from her journal on national television, and now posts pictures of her handwritten journal entries. I cannot wrap my head around this guy.

This case is very disturbing and has certainly reeled us in. After reading the affidavit I concluded that it was a burglary by drugged thugs that got out of hand and that Davey was not involved. We all come to our perceptions and conclusions based on our experiences. I am a scientist so I make my conclusions based on the facts, data, evidence and experience. This is a tough case because I can't ignore the fact that Davey and his whole bizarre group of family and friends are acting so unexpectedly. I can't ignore so many coincidences. I can't ignore the sudden tweets by KW (if they are in fact sudden and aren't the norm). I can't ignore the fact that LE obviously are not telling all they know and they may be looking at Davey and his contacts hard. I can't ignore the leaking and as Confused points out, the telegraphing. That is part of the data and the facts that must be considered in drawing a conclusion. So I am not ruling out that Davey's guilt could be his involvement in Amada's murder. But I can tell you this, my bet is that right now a jury would find Davey innocent. The media, everyone except us has dropped this story like a hot potato. Case closed, Davey grieving and innocent. Davey forgives Amanda's killers. I hope LE hasn't dropped it as well.

Wagner appears to me to have some doubt concerning DB's involvement in the murder, but his loyalty to his friendship and the church/business is valued by him as more important so he provided the definite alibi. I think he honestly was on the phone with DB and they probably did and continue their weekly Tuesday convos.

I don't think DB murdered his wife, because the evidence seems sufficient to indicate LT did the actual act of killing, but I am very suspicious if this was some kind of framed hit.
Maybe LT isn't singing bc he was never told what was actually going on?
Maybe LT was manipulated in believing that he was completing tasks that would give him membership or higher ranking to an organized group that he values?
Could DB have befriended a higher ranking member through his ministry outreach or coaching or sub teaching?
Maybe DB and a higher ranking member bonded over their narcissistic values and viewed each other as stepping stones to achieve their own personal goals?
Perhaps the sloppy crime spree with the bag of oranges and left behind incriminating receipts were intentional to be sure LT was framed.

Maybe the drinking and smoking session, put LT in a suggestible state and he was told by his 2 buddies that if he wanted to make a name for himself in their community that he should get a killing under his belt that would make the news, like a calling card of a specific group. Maybe the 2 others were in on it or maybe not. Interesting that it's been noted that the 2 others talked LT out of killing the sleeping person earlier in the night, but left him alone with Amanda.
The Best is yet to come.
Maybe this is the mantra for more than just the church.
Maybe one of the 3 stooges was in on it and knows the best is yet to come because although he may serve a few years for being an accomplice, he didn't commit the murder and the pay off is worth it. Maybe he understands that he can do his job behind bars just as easy outside and regardless the best is yet to come.
The best is yet to come as the pay off from the life insurance policy that will be freed up as long a DB is not connected to the crime.

I'm sad to see Amanda's diary pages on Twitter
but something jumped out at me.
She makes a point, I think, in underlining YOU.

..."Glory and praise to You."

I believe she underlined that to make a point...that the glory and praise should come to God and not to the self-glorified Davey.
We saw the disappointment in her face as Davey spoke in the videos, didn't we? The tension between her eyes was so obvious even if you don't know anything about body language and facial expressions.

Speaking of micro-facial expressions, check the church service video from Sunday. Do I note disapproval sweeping across the FIL's face when Davey talks about those dry bones in the seats at his church? I'll go back and watch again.

My neighbor goes to a mega church here in Indianapolis. Something has always seemed "off" with this woman. She is young, pretty, blonde, cute husband, nice kids, but still ... she's "off' somehow. It is as if just because she is "churchy" then that gives her a blank slate to do and say whatever she wants no matter how kooky it is. It is as if they all can say or do what they want and then just ask forgiveness later and all will be perfect with their lives. Gives me the creeps.

"This is part of Christianity - "Father,. forgive them for they not not what they do."

___________________________________________________________

I respectfully disagree.

Offering forgiveness without repentance does not follow the biblical model of forgiveness (Luke 17:3,4)

The Bible says that we are to forgive as God forgave us (Ephesians 4:32, Colossians 3:13). God forgives us when WE REPENT (Mark 1:15, Luke 13:3,5, Acts 3:19). He DOES NOT grant forgiveness to those that refuse to repent. We have to hold ourselves accountable and recognize our sin, and repent to receive God’s merciful forgiveness. God requires repentance and SO MUST WE.

Repentance is necessary to break the cycle of destructive behaviors and patterns of relating to others. IF I, as a Christian, don't require repentance on the part of the offender, I stand in the way of that person’s coming to see his need for God and experiencing His forgiveness. It's a 2 way street.. repentance on the part of the offender and pardon on the part of the offended.

If someone can say, "I forgive them after they have just slaughtered his wife and unborn child, it's not REAL to me. It really is because we are so desperate for relief from the hatred/revenge aspect that we are tempted to let it go, or “forgive” without ever confronting the person or waiting for him to show remorse.

It’s wrong, however, to assume that if we don’t forgive someone, we’ll be weighed down with hatred, bitterness, and revengeful desires. That’s not necessarily true because the Bible says we are to love a person regardless of whether or not he or she shows any remorse. We can love our enemies, but continue to have an issue with them. We have to be led to see that it is more loving to withhold forgiveness until a change of heart is demonstrated than it is to offer forgiveness without the offender’s acknowledgment of deliberate harm/wrongdoing.

So what I have had to do, instead of giving in to revenge, is to pray The Lord softens my heart toward those who have hurt me while I humbly REPENT that I have also hurt others. It is only by God’s grace that we can enjoy His goodness toward us at all. I have to have faith that God will avenge if it is necessary (Leviticus 19:18, Romans 12:19-21) and that He will hold each of us accountable (Romans 14:12; Hebrews 4:13 ). We don’t need to worry because God doesn't ignore our pain(Psalm 147:3). Keeping this in our minds and hearts, we leads us to a deeper trust in God and a willingness to pray for those who’ve hurt us.

Yes, an unconditional pardon can be granted without the offender ever knowing they’ve hurt us. But this one-sided “forgiveness” is not in our best interest, nor in the best interest of the person who hurt us. It DEVALUES the significance of repentance and robs both the offender and us of the opportunity to grow in Christ.

THAT'S what I meant to say..

That doesn't change DB's message about the dry bones or Holy Spirit though. The parishioners at First Baptist (where Amanda's FIL is a pastor) were also sad about Amanda's death or "her story".

I would like to point out once and for all that DB was in attendance last Sunday, November 29th, and made his ghastly end-of-service remarks at his Father-in-LAW's church -- First Baptist of Elkhart, Indiana, Pastor Phil Byars.

This is the latest from Davey, transcribed.
Starts at about 1:32:40

I told Dad uh yesterday that I didn’t want to say anything, partially because I uh don’t know how well I can hold it together when I, when I speak to people, um partially because I haven’t talked to my congregation yet or addressed them, but I suppose, um suppose sometimes you have to talk to your parents before you can talk to your kids about what’s going on in your life. (clears throat)

I had a, um a thought this morning in the, the shower, and um, felt like the Lord spoke to my heart and said um “Davey I want my church, I want my bride to come alive. And if I had asked you, Davey, before this if, if you were willing to give up your bride so that my bride could come alive, what would you have said?” (Laugh) And of course, just like anybody, I said “absolutely not.” There’s no way. I’m good. I’m good with being married, and having two little kids and pastoring a church of a hundred and twenty for the rest of my life. I’m good with comfort. And the Lord said, “That’s why I didn’t ask you the question beforehand.” Because sometimes when you say I, I surrender all, you really mean I surrender some, until you’re put in a situation where you have to surrender all.

And um I, I wanna’ share with you just real quick something the Lord has spoke to my heart just right there and I feel like it would be disobedient for me not to share it. And so I, I’m used to having carefully crafted phrases and sentences and speaking things that are powerful into people’s life because the Lord has allowed preparation, and He hasn’t allowed that right now, and so I want to ask for your grace in all of this. The Lord brought my attention to Ezekiel. He’s a prophet that God used in a mighty way to speak into the heart of his, his kids. And he brought me into the passage in Ezekiel chapter 37 where he brought Ezekiel to the top of a mountain and he looked across, over the valley and there were dry bones, um a vast army of dry bones that had been dead for some time.

Davey's speromn at FIL's church, cont'd:

And He said, “Ezekiel, speak life,” He said, “Speak over these bones.” And Ezekel spoke, and immediately the bones began to rattle, and began to shake, and they began to contstruct themselves back together, and then tendons and muscle tissue and skin actually formed on the bones, but it said the bones had no life in them.

And He said, “Ezekiel, speak again over the valley of dry bones,” and so Ezekiel spoke again, and it says the breath was breathed into the beings. And that breath is the breath of life. It’s the Holy Spirit of God, that breathes life into you and me, and I believe Ezekiel spoke the Gospel of Jesus Christ over that valley of dry bones. The Bible doesn’t indicate what he spoke and so we have to kind of fill in the blanks there, but I know there’s only one truth that can bring life, and that’s the light of life, that’s Jesus Christ and the good news of Jesus, how he gave up his life, so that we could have life.

And um last, last year close to this time, I spoke a message here, and whether you get offended by this or not, I don’t know, and honestly I don’t, it doesn’t really bother me if you do. But when I looked out across this congregation I saw a valley of dry bones. I saw people who had life once, but there was staleness. I believe from that moment I’ve heard story after story after story after story about how God has been beginning to reconstruct this congregation in such a way that it can advance forward as an army. And I believe what God has done over this past year through Revive and through many other efforts is that He has built tendons and muscle tissue and skeleton and structure back into this place, and I believe what God is doing now, through this event, God is now breathing life into this vast army.

And I believe that, that in some ways, some shape, some form that–, and we can’t wrap our minds around it theologically, God didn’t, God didn’t cause this to happen but He allowed it to happen in such a way, He allowed the breath of Amanda to come out of her so that the breath could be breathed into you and into me so that we could advance the Gospel in a way that history books have never even told. And I believe that it’s going to come out of this house, I believe it’s going to come out of, out of our house in Indianapolis, I believe in this region God’s going to do something from the crossroads of America that’s going to scatter across America and we’re going to see a revival like we’ve never seen before.

I believe God wants to use you and you and you and you and you and you and you and you and you and you a thousand times over to do that. So please do me a favor. Don’t let this be wasted. Don’t let this be wasted. Breathe the breath of life and exhale it into the people that you come in contact with on a daily basis, who don’t know Jesus, and let’s watch Jesus take trash and turn it to treasure, take ashes and turn it into beauty, take ruin and turn it into His glorious grace. Let’s do it together.

I love you guys. Thank you.

This is my first comment on this site. I was disturbed by DB's interviews on Good Morning America and other venues, and that led me here. With DB's latest tweet about Amanda tanning on the shores of Heaven with a virgin pina colada, loving Paradise, I am beyond appalled. No mother wants to leave her 15 month old child behind, for any reason, not to increase numbers in a church, and not to sit on a beach in Paradise. I say this as a Christian, although not evangelical, and as a mother. I would tear apart heaven and hell to try to stay with my child, as would most mothers. How could one sit on a beach in Paradise, knowing that your 15-month-old child is crying for you, wondering where you are? DB's comment seems to comprehend nothing about the needs of a child, or the bond between a parent and a child.

As for Jesus, he was deeply and fully human and pointed us towards that fullness, not towards a surface experience of life, not towards ignoring human pain. I can't get the thought of Amanda being hit in the mouth with a gun out of my mind. I know that wasn't even the worst of her wounds, but there's something about that image that pains me deeply. It's so wrong, just all over wrong. She must have been terrified. This is hard for me to bear, and I didn't know her. Even if an individual was unhappy in a marriage, I think he or she would be traumatized by such a brutal murder of their partner. DB shows no trauma and looked, in his interviews, like he was sleeping well. He even glowed. Unless he is on some kind of medication, it just doesn't add up.

You peeps do realize, don't you, that nothing will ever come of investigating these type religious cult breeding grounds? It wouldn't matter how many news hounds got behind them, or how good they might be in rooting them out, unless a crime is found to be committed at one there is nothing legally that can be done since we do have freedom on religion in America.

They can tear the Bible to shreds, change it around to suit their little hearts content, distort and put Jesus to shame as they please, name themselves as prophets, mock the Holy Word of God by selling whatever merchandise that suites them, slander their women, lie, cheat and steal their income from the church till and do whatever else they damned well please and we can do nothing. They protect their own and will continue too, and will get away with it.

They can scam all they want too, tell all the lies they choose, even set up labor camps and cloister themselves, but until a crime has occurred AND YOU CAN PROVE IT, they can do as they please. Their members can come and go as they please and keep right on glorifying, praising and worshiping them, and we can all see what fools they are being made of, at their own choosing, even dooming their own souls to hell, but this is freedom of religion in America.

On the flip side, did you know that in some states you can set up Bible studies in your own home and claim your home is being used as a place of worship, thereby being able to exempt paying property taxes? Yep. Sure can. Check it out. ABB

Its cultural

Guns and bibles

Murica has some special problems that throws up demons like DB into public adoration

See: OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson

Murica is a country of WORSHIPPERS.

Australia doesn't worship anything really except the beach the footy and ice cold beer

Don't worry you will catch up - it may take another century but kids of today aren't fooled, and their kids will be laughing at the Daveys of the world as anachronisms, a social experiment gone wrong.

Which doesn't alter the current Public Support DB has one bit...

Murica worships Heroes. Davey has cast himself in a heroic role (yes I know my wife and a fetus died on my living room floor But I will Save You All Regardless) and ITS WORKING just like it worked for Matt Baker and Tyler Deaton and Richard Shahan and AB Shirmer!

Thank God for Statement Analysis is all I can say...;p

So I've been following this and commented once awhile back. I think one reason I've really been somewhat obsessed with this story is bc it reminds me of my old church and their ideology. Both DB and his father in law suppress emotions to "celebrate" Amanda's life which reminds me of how my church pushed us to suppress feelings in order to advance the gospel and what not. I've been having memories pop more and more with my church which I tell my husband about and he is shocked by the things we were taught and the obsession with sex etc.

However one thing I've noticed is comments saying, "poor Amanda, she must have seen him for who he was" or speculating that she was trying to get out, etc and I wonder if that's true. I wonder if she questioned it at all. Not bc I'm questioning her intelligence but that based on her dad's recent sermon and Davey's remarks she may have been conditioned to ignore her gut and believed Davey was doing his best. I was treated like shit by my parents but was conditioned not to question them bc I should "honor my father and mother" even though I was reaching out to pastors regarding abuse. I grew up not knowing what empathy and love really felt like and if I had married the wrong man, someone like Davey who has no empathy, I wonder if I'd even recognize he treated me badly. Luckily my husband is wonderful and by his treatment I'm seeing more and more how terribly both my parents and church community treated me. They failed me on so many levels. I can't help but wonder if Amanda grew up in a similar environment

Anonymous said...

Wait, wait, wait. Has anyone watched the full video of Amanda's dad's sermon? I know you all have talked about it and how Davey got up and *sniff sniff* found the strength to speak, but back 'er up a little.

Before the grand poobah gets up and does his shtick, Phil Byars first gives a little speech on a thousand bibles he has and how he wants each person to go out, take one bible and spread the word. Phil then says, "alright, here's how we are going to end today. If you're scared, like to death right now and you've never done this before, stand up, we're going to pray for you." Of course he says a few more words, but then lo and behold, Davey can't take it anymore, he needs the attention and up he goes. Phil says, "Davey, what are you doing standing up? You're a Pastor."

Has anyone else seen this? I thought Phil's words of being "scared to death" were very interesting. Davey is his own worse enemy. All cops have to do is sit back and let this ego driven punk hang himself.

Amy Smith said...

Samantha V said...

I've been following along here since almost the beginning. A question I have - something I can't recall being discussed at any length here - is, does anyone know why the police were so quick to declare Davey Blackburn "100% cleared"?

I get that they had surveillance evidence of the thugs and so forth, as well as evidence that Davey was at the gym. But how could they be so sure he didn't hire the thugs? Wouldn't it have taken a lot more time than just a day or two to rule out any connection between those criminals and DB? Or even more time to figure out with certainty that the shots the neighbor heard during the time DB was at the gym were the only shots fired that morning?

That's the part that has been puzzling me the most. Why would law enforcement be so quick to say publicly that Davey Blackburn was cleared, and in such sweeping, emphatic language? Isn't that highly unorthodox? A friend theorized that maybe this was a strategy to get DB to relax and slip up, but wouldn't this strategy just give a future defense attorney a great bit of ammunition? "Of course my client is innocent, even the police said so!"

At the very least, it seems to me like the cops would have found DB's demeanor questionable enough to make them more cautious about publicly stating he was "100% cleared."

"valley of dry bones"

Sounds like a serial killer's dumping ground.

Any clusters of unsolved murders/missing person's cases, especially of prostitutes (considering DB's fixation on women being "whores" if they dress a certain way) in the South Carolina area during time period he was there? Or even Indianapolis?

Any chance this guy had killed before and Amanda started asking too many questions, found something, etc. and he felt he had to get rid of her?

Anonymous said...

Even Phil saying "how many of you are scared to death" that was chilling. Mostly because I thought it was tongue in cheek directed at Davey, other part was because his daughter just died, so using "scared to death" seemed a little inapporpiate.

You're not wrong

Take sociology

Learn about indoctrination

Weekly meetings are essential to keep the vibe going

As its based on Absolutely Nothing but Men in Dresses telling the rest of us how to live and to give them $$$ for the privilege

If Religion wasn't so ephemeral Pastors wouldn't need to rev up their parishoners to the point of hysteria on a weekly basis

The enthusiasm of a Cheerleader for a losing team

The subtle mechanism of extracting $$ from "believers" thereby enslaving those believers via their own pockets

People aren't willing to quit on something that's cost them $$$

Tithing is just another way these Pastors enslave congregations

Who are too frightened/brainwashed/simple to Ask Questions or disrupt the status quo

This is what they teach at Christian Universities

How to Enslave Folk more than How to be Holy.

If they were genuinely holy they wouldn't be stood there in their $200 haircuts (lol) and stages and fancy microphones and bible sales and brand new jumpers when there's no doubt some homeless folk mere metres away.

Its truly scary how some folk are so disjointed from their own brains they cant see a Charlatan when he's selling his snake oil...!

I still have Amanda on my mind every day, in a variety of ways. Sometimes I can't stop thinking about how terrifying her last moments were. I am certain her only thought was protecting Weston. Other times I think about what a truly good person she seemed to be. She and DB essentially had the same message they wanted to get across - but she seemed sincere and he seemed smarmy.

I think it's likely her family has at least some tiny doubts about the possibility of his involvement, but their priority has to be maintaining contact with Weston, so they have to appear to believe and support DB 100%.

The support his friends are giving really seems like they're trying to convince themselves as much as anyone else.

I may be flattering myself, but I consider myself a pretty good judge of character and have a background as a nurse in psych, substance abuse, and corrections settings. DB pings my hinky meter to high alert. Most of the time I feel comfortable interacting with inmates, even those charged with murder. (Not "smuggle them out in a dog cage" comfortable, but "not afraid they're going to shank me" comfortable.) Occasionally there will be one that I don't even want to be in the same room with, and DB is that kind of person.

I just watched the video with the father and DB.

The father seems to have an empathy deficit. He doesn't seem to be mourning his daughter. I will say, though, he gets a slightly disgusted look on his face as he is looking at DB as DB goes into the "valley of dry bones" speech.

All I could think of during DB's speech is that his demeanor reminds me so much of Ted Bundy when Bundy gave an interview with the head of Focus on the Family shortly before his execution to try to win a reprieve with the governor.
It is EERIE how similar they seem.
He has the same chuckle as Scott Peterson in interviews, but I am getting a Ted Bundy vibe.

For profiling purposes, I am going to think of him as potentially having Ted Bundy type traits.
My guess is, like Bundy, underneath the mask, he's got a ravenous appetite for destruction, it may shed light on why he is using such images as "valley of dry bones" when he looks out at the congregation. It sounds terrible but he may be fantasizing that they are dead which is commonly what serial killers think when they look at people.

I think he killed his wife. I think he's dangerous. I don't think it'll be the last time he does it. Of course this is speculation.

I pray that the Christians posting here haven't given the impression that most American churches mimic this creation of the Mentor, Davey and the other young "Lead Pastors". This is certainly not the norm.

Most of us and those with whom we worship are God-fearing people who believe that the Bible is the unchanging, divine Word. We believe that each person comes to God through Jesus Christ, not through fast talk and the dry bones of dead mothers.

It saddens us when someone undermines God, whether its through ultra-sexual funky-time videos or downright denying that He is the creator of the universe and our only hope of salvation.

Everyone has this hope...the murdering thugs, the men with murder in their hearts, the ones who would change God's word and those who don't think they need Him at all until a crisis comes or they're at death's door. Repenting is the necessary part. Forgiveness is another. I pray that all of us here understand this and pass it on.

Hes quite possibly (IMHO) a psychopath with grandiose tendencies

I bet he's going to come out with some sort of "initiative" involving the White House

He wants to be another one of Americas Famous Preachers

With the fame the glory and adultation and $$$ that incurs

Watch him organize a Charity Baseball Tournament (all the big names) in the name of Amanda's bones (no word on Everett)

This is certainly not the last we've heard from Davey Blackburn!

Maggie - Thanks for the FB update. I think it's pretty telling that suddenly DB has unfriended the guy who has connections to the crowd that is in jail. Hope LE sees that too...might mean nothing, but it might be the thread that links them all. I think that also means the chances of DB reading the comment section here is pretty high since the FB friend connection was just discussed yesterday or the day before?

Lynda,

I agree. The entry is undated. It looks like Amanda wrote it:

"What an amazing Sunday yesterday. Truly filled my heart to see so many people in your church. Learning. Growing. Meeting you and taking next steps. Thank you for letting me get to see all of this with my own eyes.

I love you Lord. Glory and praise to YOU."

When Davey read this in the meda interview, he added the word "JESUS."

"What an amazing Sunday yesterday. Truly filled my heart to see so many people in your church, JESUS."

This whole whipping out the private journal thang feels deceptive on so many levels!

Ezekiel had an incredible relationship with God, but he went through a ton of crap in order to be that close with Him (see Ezekiel 3:1-2, 4:4-8, 5:1, 24:15-24). God killed Ezekiel’s wife so that he could feel the pain that Israel was about to endure! I mean, what the heck! The lines at the top of the journal entry are from a classic hymn of the faith: Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus written by Helen H. Lemmell in 1922. Canada, I don't think it's so much piling on him as it is observing his behavior. You have two options here, either Phil is completely in the dark and trusts and love his son-in-law, oblivious to the notion Davey could possibly harm his beloved daughter. Or you have a father that knows something is up with his lunatic son-in-law and has to "play the game" until law enforcement arrests Davey. Either way you toss the coin, it's going to come up looking crazy. If Amanda's dad is suspicious of Davey, I find his acting skills to be phenomenal. I just don't think Amanda's family has any idea of how deep the rabbit hole goes.

CJ said...

Yup, looks like he is taking a page out of Ezekiel.

Ezekiel 24:15-25New International Version (NIV)

Ezekiel’s Wife Dies
15 The word of the Lord came to me: 16 “Son of man, with one blow I am about to take away from you the delight of your eyes. Yet do not lament or weep or shed any tears. 17 Groan quietly; do not mourn for the dead. Keep your turban fastened and your sandals on your feet; do not cover your mustache and beard or eat the customary food of mourners.”

18 So I spoke to the people in the morning, and in the evening my wife died. The next morning I did as I had been commanded.

19 Then the people asked me, “Won’t you tell us what these things have to do with us? Why are you acting like this?”

20 So I said to them, “The word of the Lord came to me: 21 Say to the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to desecrate my sanctuary—the stronghold in which you take pride, the delight of your eyes, the object of your affection. The sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword. 22 And you will do as I have done. You will not cover your mustache and beard or eat the customary food of mourners. 23 You will keep your turbans on your heads and your sandals on your feet. You will not mourn or weep but will waste away because of[a] your sins and groan among yourselves. 24 Ezekiel will be a sign to you; you will do just as he has done. When this happens, you will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.’

25 “And you, son of man, on the day I take away their stronghold, their joy and glory, the delight of their eyes, their heart’s desire, and their sons and daughters as well—

Canada,
Observing Phil Byars, Amanda's dad, he has a wary look about him. He is surprised when Davey stands up and when he moves close and asks to speak. He nods slightly in approval when Davey is speaking during the church service. There is a hint of impatience as Davey drones on and on about Amanda's breath sacrifice and a hint of disapproval when Davey tells his congregation they were dry bones last year.

I have to think he is quite conflicted. He can't give a hint of his suspicion that Davey was involved in the murder because their access to Weston could be cut off in a heartbeat. I imagine when he and his wife are alone, they express their anger and probably read about the public suspicions. They saw the very tweets we did about tanning on the beach and not being well-read. They read that Davey said Amanda went to a bad college. They saw him diss her in the marriage videos. They saw the look on their sweet daughter's face as he put her down. It's all just too sad, isn't it?

Louise K said...

Not in, out, walk, drive, hide from cameras you apparently know exist, GET RECORDED ON THEM ANYWAY, make a crap headshot and leave without so much as the wedding rings!

He shot her right? he was alone with her right? no one in the neighbourhood twitched at the gunshot so why didn't he load her car up with all the big screens and crap no doubt Davey has?

Yeah, yeah"

Still classless and in poor taste IMO. And he should have credited the lyrics anyway. Makes it even worse that he didn't b/c it comes across as just his own judgement of her. Ugh.

Someone posted a link to an article about Larry Taylor being a snitch.
Could you repost?

If that's true, it makes me believe that Larry Taylor was set up. He wasn't a member of the Kilt Gang like all the others. Everything I've read says a snitch is the bottom of the barrel with these gang bangers. They would probably go to great lengths to get him busted. They could carry out a hit...perhaps making sure he was in the house to leave DNA even if he didn't actually pull the trigger.

Many here have said that Alonzo Duguoise Bull (known to smoke Swisher Sweets) fit the description of witnesses better than Larry and was it Larry who was "supposedly" wearing Alonzo's $300 unique jacket? The cell calls from and to Alonzo's phone back at the apartment could have been from and to the wife, Donae Mitchell, right? So maybe Alonzo, who was a solid Kilt member could have been right there in the middle of everything including doing the hit? And the 17 year old wife/new mother who has had a shady past could either be very aware of what happened or just not very smart.

That makes so much sense to me. Am I crazy?

My opinion:

Davey likely only had connection with one or two of the killers.

The young punk was just that - a gangsta wannabe given a job to earn his colors.

Davey probably didn't even know him.

Somehow Davey crossed paths with one of the older ones and kept up this friendship over however long, because it thrilled him and suited him in equal measure.

I'd say DB has a history of crossing lines for the heck of it. Associating with gangstas would fit his vibe - or at least, the vibe he's attempting to create.

Anyway that's my deal with this horrid crime

A contract hit disguised as a burglary

The victims, as always, the children

and I include the 18 year old in this who surely has not had a happy road in life and therefore was vulnerable too
