Jussie Smollett Video

I think there is more to this case than “fake hate.”

It took three weeks to hand in the phone—something caused this nerd.

Thank you, Peter, for your analysis of Jussie's version of events. Most comments on other websites have discounted what happened...some pretty adamantly! I've been anticipating your take on it, and your conclusion reinforced what even the most average observer has concluded--only with more authority! I'm going to move forward with contacting you about the level 1 certification. Statement analysis is the most fascinating--and useful--subject I've ever come across!

just breaking on Drudge - motive - he staged attack because he was being written out of his show

Chicago Police just denied that they found that this was a hoax and staged. Not sure who released that info but they are denying. Part of what was released was that the two men seen on the video were from the show, Empire, (which I had never heard of). Well I had never heard of Jessie Smollett either.

Jessie Smollett released his phone but not with everything. Hmmm wonder why?

This has been suspect from the moment the report came out. Statement analysis is the truth and Peter shared that the attack is a lie. And the reasons why his words revealed this.

Keep up the good work, Peter !!

The phone records might indicate he knew the people he had a quarrel with.

And/or the phone records might indicate that he knew Kamala Harris (and Cory Booker?). If you google "Kamala Harris and Jussie Smollett" you will find pictures of them together (MLK day 2018). The alleged attack took place right around the time Harris and Cory Booker were pushing Harris's Anti-Lynching Bill through Congress (it was passed in the Senate yesterday). Both Harris and Booker used the alleged attack to illustrate the necessity of the bill. They called the attack a "modern-day lynching". It's all a bit to coincidental for my taste. Also: Maxine Waters was at the concert Jussie gave after the alleged attack. So there are more ties between Jussie and the Democrats.

Anyway, I think Jussie has deeper-lying problems (in more ways than one). He is coming unglued.

Smollett's representatives issued a statement about the phone records saying i.a.:

"Any redacted information was intended to protect the privacy of personal contacts or high-profile individuals not relevant to the attack."

Why add "not relevant to the attack"? Are there any high-profile individuals that ARE relevant to the attack?

In a recent press interview, watch Jussie’s body language closely. He is asked if he believed the attack was racially motivated. His answer tells the whole story. He says aloud “Yes”, but before he does his eyes aim downwards, close and while he says “Yes” his muscles have betrayed him and his head is shaking back and for “No”.

I read that he was afraid of being written off the show; with acting that bad, it isn’t difficult to see why. Joking aside, this screams of psychological problems that run very deep and desperately need to be addressed. My guess is that for the other involveds it was politically and financially motivated, for Jussie a huge cry for help.

Jussie Smollett heartbroken over criticism after attack: 'You don't even want to see the truth'

Snipped

spoke directly to his "doubters" in an exclusive interview that aired on "Good Morning America" Thursday, just over two weeks after the "Empire" star told police he was brutally attacked in what authorities are calling a suspected hate crime.

In his first interview since police say he was attacked last month, the singer and actor said he was heartbroken when he found out that people questioned the details of his story.

"I have to acknowledge the lies, and the hate. And it feels like if I had said it was a Muslim, or a Mexican, or someone black, I feel like the doubters would have supported me much more. A lot more," Smollett, 36, told ABC News' Robin Roberts. "And that says a lot about the place that we are in our country right now.

"It's not necessarily that you don't believe that this is the truth, you don't even want to see the truth," he added.

Smollett, who portrays a gay musician on Fox's "Empire," said the attack happened on Jan. 29, at around 2 a.m. as he was leaving a Subway restaurant in Chicago. He told police that two attackers gained his attention by yelling racial and homophobic slurs at him, according to an initial incident report.

He said the attackers put a noose around his neck, poured an unknown substance, likely bleach, on him and used their hands, feet and teeth as weapons in the assault, according to the report, which ABC News obtained last week via a Freedom of Information Act request. Smollett said the attackers also yelled, "This is MAGA country," during the attack -- a reference to President Donald Trump's "Make American Great Again" slogan.

The singer said he sustained injuries to his clavicle bone and bruised ribs during the attack, but some still questioned if he made the story up

"For me, the main thing was the idea that I somehow switched up my story, you know? And that somehow maybe I added a little extra trinket, you know, of the MAGA thing," Smollett said. "I didn't need to add anything like that. They called me a f----, they called me a n----. There's no which way you cut it. I don't need some MAGA hat as the cherry on top of some racist sundae."

Smollett said earlier reporting by various media outlets claiming his attackers were wearing MAGA hats was inaccurate.

Others suggested that he may have lied in his explanation for being outside at 2 a.m. in sub-zero Chicago weather, but Smollett said "that's ridiculous."

"I've heard that it was a date gone bad, which I also resent that narrative," he said.

"I'm not gonna go out and get a tuna sandwich and a salad to meet somebody. That's ridiculous. And it's offensive," he added.

Smollett also confirmed reports that he was initially reluctant to contact the police or handover his cellphone to help with the investigation.

"They wanted me to give my phone to the tech for three to four hours. I'm sorry but -- I'm not gonna do that," the singer said. "Because I have private pictures and videos and numbers: my partner's number, my family's number, my castmate's number, my friends' numbers, my private emails, my private songs, my private voice memos."

"I was looking at myself, just like checking myself out. I saw the bruise on my neck, you know, like the little -- the rope burn around my neck," he said. "So when the police came I kept the clothes on, I kept the rope on me. ... I mean, it wasn't, like, wrapped around. But, yeah, it was around because I wanted them to see."

John Mc Gowan said...

Cont..

The musician said he's hopeful that police will track down the suspects. He also believes the two potential persons of interest in a photo released by police in the days after the attack are the perpetrators.

"I don't have any doubt in my mind that that's them," Smollett said. "Never did."

But there's no doubt in his mind that the attack was racially motivated.

"I could only go off of their words. I mean, who says, "f----- 'Empire' n-----," "This is MAGA country, n-----," ties a noose around your neck, and pours bleach on you? And this is just a friendly fight?" he asked. "It's unbelievable to me that anything of this has come to this. That every single thing that I have done, every single thing that I have cooperated with, somehow has gotten twisted into being some bull that it's not."

Smollett decided to speak out so people could hear the "truth."

"I think people need to hear the truth," he said. "'Cause everybody has their own idea. Some are healing and some are hurtful, but I just want young people, young members of the LGBTQ community -- young, black children -- to know how strong that they are."

Peter, having read your tweets I think I see what you mean. I thought Jussie may (also?) be talking about himself when he says "little gay boy" though: “I want a little gay boy, who might watch this, to see that I fought f...ing back.” Did Jussie have to fight back as a little boy? Was he not able to? Fighting back seems very important to him. He doesn’t want to be weak. He keeps repeating that. He keeps saying how strong he is, making me think he feels weak. Jussie’s first statement and his family’s statement mentioned daily attacks on his brothers, sisters and (…) siblings and the family’s statement ((co-)written by himself?) mentions “domestic terrorism”. The anonymous letter shows a figure hanging from a tree with a gun pointed at him but, as mentioned by General P. Malaise, it also looks like an adult with a child. And the gun could be a phallic symbol.

Smollett seems to be doing everything in his power to make himself, and keep himself, front and center; using the attack based on his color and sexual orientation to as a cudgel to force people to pay attention to him. Although I haven't read all the stories pertaining to this incident and had never heard of Smollett prior this, it is my understanding he's been critical of Trump on social media (along with so many others). I wonder if his struggle to make this experience of his relevant to all of us reflects a need to be, or to remain, relevant in some other aspect of his life? Is he facing the loss of his role on the show? Loss of relevance to a partner/mate? Loss of relevance on social media? Do people, in his opinion, not render sufficent 'honor' and 'respect' to his blackness or his homosexuality? I'd like to see what has changed in his life in the weeks or months preceding this incident as I'm positive there is some pivotal event of change, or pending change, in his life that prompted him to do this. He's lying about being assaulted in the manner he describes. I get the social justice warrior aspect of this, but I think there's something deeper at work here.

Tania Cadogan said...

Presumably since they poured bleach on him he would have the items of clothing with the bleach stains on.
It would also be possible to tell from said staining what direction the bleach was poured from and how it traveled over and through the fabric.

Perhaps he is going to see if he can redact and edit that?

Phoenix1966 said...

@tania - It's interesting about the clothing/sweater. If you read the redacted police report of the incident (https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5726083/Jussie-Smollett-police-report.pdf), the white rope was taken into evidence as well as the stained clothing.

Jussie can't take that back since the police do have it.

As we've all noticed, it appears as though Jussie was initially unwilling to report the crime (per statements in the police report), but was convinced by the friend in his apartment. Could that be because he knew that actually reporting the attack would turn out to be the real crime?

It gets better.

According to the Daily Mail, The persons of interest are allegedly two former extras on Empire who are brothers and friends of smollet - who traveled to Nigeria hours after the attack and returned on Wednesday when they were arrested at Chicago O'Hare airport.

Presumably they are black which is a bit of a problem since he told police he was attacked by two men “yelling out racial and homophobic slurs” who hit him in the face, poured an “unknown chemical substance” on him and tied a rope around his neck.

Perhaps they were dark black and he is a lighter black and we know the most racist people are light skinned blacks against dark skinned blacks who are seen as stupid and ugly.

It could get interesting if the 2 people seen in the CCTV and are possible suspects are black since he said he does not think he would have been met with the same cynicism if his attackers weren't white Trump supporters and revealed his belief that he was targeted because he is a vocal critic of the president.

What racist insults were hurled would be interesting to know.

'I can only go off their words. Who says 'f****t', 'Empire n****r', 'This MAGA country,' ties a noose around your neck and pours bleach on you, and this is just a friendly fight?' he said.

He added he has 'no doubt' that two people in a surveillance camera image that was circulated by Chicago police are the pair who attacked him.

'I was there. For me when that was released I was like OK we're getting somewhere.

'I don't have any doubt in my mind that that's them. Never did.'

And,

'I noticed the rope around my neck and I said, "There's a f****** rope around my neck,"' he said.

Spot the passivity.
Why didn't he take it off immediately?
I know i would and i think almost anyone else would as well.
It would be seen as a threat, a danger especially if put there by a stranger.
The risk to ones ;life would prompt its immediate removal once they got the chance to prevent further risk to life.
Keeping it on for many minutes after an attack does not make sense.
Even if kept as evidence to show LE, there would be no need to show it in situ if the chance to remove after the attack is there.
Giving it to the cops and telling them where it had been placed would suffice, especially if there are injuries around the throat consistent with attempted lynching or strangling.

I wonder what his explanation and excuse will be when he is shown to be deceptive?

Phoenix1966 said...

According to TMZ, the two "suspects" have now been released.

"Chicago PD says, "Due to new evidence as a result of today's interrogations, the individuals questioned by police in the 'Empire' case have now been released without charging."

Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi added that detectives have "additional investigative work to complete."

And Jussie Smollett has hired criminal defense lawyer Michael Monico.

Phoenix1966 said...

I wanted to add I thought the fact that the PD referred to the attack now as the "Empire case" an interesting choice, too.

Thank you for posting your analysis, Peter. Based on the content of the show Empire, it doesn't seem like a show that a person who would use racist/homophobic slurs would enjoy watching. The cast is very diverse, as are the relationships depicted. And yet the attackers were said to have used words indicating they recognized Smollett from the show. That doesn't add up for me.

Strange that Jussie compared the allegedly so vicious and violent attack to something so positive and harmless as an ice cream. Where did that image come from (the Nigerian brothers' last name is Osundairo)?

Also: Jussie's rhetorical questions seem to hold some answers: "(...) and this is just a friendly fight?" "Did I make that up too?"

Jussie Smollett hires Michael Cohen's criminal defense attorney as the two Nigerian Empire extras held in his attack are released suddenly without charges after police discover 'new evidence' during interrogation

Snipped:

Empire star Jussie Smollett has hired Michael Cohen's high-powered criminal defense attorney, as the police investigation into the attack he reported last month took a sudden shift amid allegations of a hoax.

Attorney Michael Monico, a former federal prosecutor in the Northern District of Illinois, revealed in a radio interview on Thursday in Chicago that he is representing Smollett.

Monico, speaking on WGN's The Roe Conn Show, did not reveal how long he has been representing Smollet or in what capacity. Monico last month took over as co-counsel for Cohen, President Donald Trump's former lawyer.

It came as police in Chicago suddenly released two Nigerian extras on Smollett's show, who had previously been described as suspects in the attack, saying that 'new evidence' had emerged in their interrogations that requires further detective work.

THE FULL STATEMENT FROM JUSSIE SMOLLETT’S ATTORNEYS

Lawyers Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson issued the following statement on Jussie's behalf on Saturday night: 'As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with. He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.

'One of these purported suspects was Jussie’s personal trainer who he hired to ready him physically for a music video. It is impossible to believe that this person could have played a role in the crime against Jussie or would falsely claim Jussie’s complicity.

'Jussie and his attorneys anticipate being further updated by the Chicago Police Department on the status of the investigation and will continue to cooperate. At the present time, Jussie and his attorneys have no inclination to respond to “unnamed” sources inside of the investigation, but will continue discussions through official channels.'

Kamala Harris tweeted: .@JussieSmollett is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know.

That probably says a lot about her. There's this online article referencing an anonymous source saying that Harris is involved:

“This puppy [Jussie Smollett] is tied to Kamala. There is a chance this will come out. CPD is pissed about the situation. They had the phone records before the spreadsheet was given to them. They also had the two Nigerians from following them on video from walking to taxis, etc. They had payment records. The interview on Good Morning America will be damning. Detectives have been 2 steps ahead the whole time. Would suggest for people to contact their representatives to have Kamala investigated. She is involved and wish I could tell you how I know. Just contact your reps and push for them to look into this. It may help.”

It's just one anonymous source and who knows if it's true. The source seems to know a lot of details about the investigation, though. The article furthermore shows a video of Jussie Smollett and Kamala Harris together (shouting "Time's Up" during MLK day 2018).

Also: Jussie says he went out to get a salad and a smoke. If he wanted a salad why did he come home with a sandwich? Was Subway out of salads? Did he change his mind? Does "salad" mean something else?

'No blacks' graffiti painted on door of 10-year-old's Salford home
Boy left traumatised after racist message daubed on front door days after moving in

A 10-year-old boy was left “totally traumatised” after graffiti saying “no blacks, no blacks” was painted on the door of his home days after he moved in.

The boy’s father, Jackson Yamba, 38, said the racist message was daubed on three doors leading to their flat in Salford, Greater Manchester, earlier this month.

The trainee solicitor, a former barrister from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, said he discovered the graffiti as he was taking his son, David, to school on 8 February, five days after moving in.

He reported the incident immediately to Greater Manchester police, but was “appalled” not to have had a call or a visit from officers over a week later.

Speaking to the Guardian on Sunday, Yamba said: “As we opened the door we saw the graffiti on the door: ‘No blacks, no blacks.’ My son started crying – he’s been totally traumatised.

I couldn’t believe what I witnessed. They also painted the door that leads to my door, and the communal door. I’m the only black person here of about eight residents in the block.”

He added: “I phoned the police straight away because it’s a hate crime. The officer gave me an incident number but from the 8th until now I’ve not received a phone call or a visit – it’s just appalling.

“I’ve been told surprisingly that there’s not enough staff and that they have serious crime to deal with. But it’s a hate crime, it’s a serious crime, it’s an indictable crime.”

Yamba, a senior paralegal at the law firm BW Legal, said he had lived in Salford for six years but his son moved in with him only in September. The incident had left him too scared to be alone in the building, he said.

“He used to go to school alone but since that day he can’t even go through the corridor by himself. He’s traumatised by the incident
,” he said.

“Everywhere I go now, he has to be with me. He can’t even stay five minutes on his own because he’s scared. In his mind he thinks whoever has done it can come and harm us.”

David, who started school in Salford in September, said: “Me and my dad were going to school and when we were walking out it said ‘no blacks no blacks’ on it so I was scared and my dad kept telling me to go out.

“I was worried they were waiting for us outside to see our reaction. We went outside and called the police. We started walking down the stairs and we saw more ‘no blacks no blacks’ and I was scared because I thought the person who’s done this knows where we live. I kept holding on to my dad.

“When I first saw it I wished we could move because that’s never happened to me before. I thought the police would come – I wish they would come and catch the person who did it.”

Soft Language ("No Blacks") ("the person") (incident")
"we" opened the "door". Does he want us to believe they both put their hand on the door handle to open it, because that's what he is telling us.
Element of time ( re phone call) "straight away".
Note the repetition of "Door" by Dad. (sensitive) Yet his son does not mention "door" once.
"Painted". When it's quite clearly spray.
Note the fear from his son and not Dad.
"When I first saw it I wished we could move" (is this his motive?)

ROBIN ROBERTS: “If the attackers are never found how will you be able to heal.”
JUSSIE SMOLLETT: "Ahm, I don’t know. Let's just hope that they are. You know what I’m saying? Like, let’s, let's not go there yet. Let’s ahm … he he. I was talking to a friend and I said, 'I just want them to find them.' And she said, 'Sweetie, they're not going to find them.' That just made me so angry. Because, so I'm just going to be left here with this? You know what I’m saying? Like I'm just going to be left here … with, … with, like, so they get to go free and go about their life and possibly attack someone else? And I'm here left with, left with the aftermath of this bull? That's not cool to me. That's not OK.

Very weird that Jussie called the alleged attack “this bull”.

Also odd that his “friend” told Jussie they wouldn't find the attackers. What prompted her to say that? How would she know? Perpetrators are sometimes found years later. This interview was only 2 weeks after the alleged attack. She’s not much of a friend if you ask me. Unless…..she said it to reassure Jussie: “Sweetie, don’t worry, they’re not going to find them.” Who exactly is this female friend of Jussie?

Jussie’s anger in this part of the interview feels real. My question is: what did his friend say that made him so angry? I find it hard to believe that Jussie got so upset because his friend said the attackers would not be caught (however insensitive that may be). She’s not the CPD or the DA. So whatever she thinks about the probability of the attackers being caught is totally irrelevant (unless she could pull some strings at the CPD or the prosecutor's office). Something else his friend said was "not cool" and "not OK" to him. Maybe I’m reading too much into this but I get the feeling his friend may have had prior knowledge of (or involvement in) this hoax and told Jussie he’s on his own (“so I’m just going to be left here with this?” -> “left” 4x) and she refused to have anything more to do with it (“so they get to go free and go about their life (…)?”). WHO are “they” who get to go free, etc.? I don’t think it’s the Nigerian brothers. The brothers didn’t leave him “with the aftermath of this bull”. On the contrary: they got dragged into this by Jussie instead of the other way around. I think more people may have had prior knowledge of this hoax.

To clarify my previous comment: of course Jussie didn't really get upset at the thought of his attackers not being found. That would have been the ideal scenario for him. My point is: I have the impression Jussie truly got angry because of something his friend said. What was it.

Is she a threat if she is allowed back into the UK?

Full transcript of ISIS bride Shamima Begum's interview hours after giving birth
Here is every word she said to John Sparks of Sky News in an interview broadcast across the world

ISIS bride Shamima Begum appeared on TV screens across the world today, just hours after giving birth to a baby boy.

The teenager was interviewed in a refugee camp in Syria by Sky News correspondent John Sparks.

With her newborn baby at her side, the 19-year-old spoke of her hopes to come back to the UK - and why people should have "sympathy" for her.

Ms Begum left the UK in 2015 with her London schoolmates Kadiza Sultana and Amira Abase.

Since leaving Britain, she claims she's had two children who have died, and is appealing to be brought home with her son.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid has said he will do everything in his power to block Ms Begum's return.

Here is the full transcript of the interview:

Tell me a bit about the child.?

It's a boy. I named him after my old son [who died] - that's what my husband wanted.

What are conditions like in the camp?

Right now, it's okay. I get fed and I have a heater, but it's kind of difficult going around doing stuff yourself - especially now I have a child.

Will you be able to care for him here?

It's going to be a bit difficult because right now I don't have money.

For people without money, it's hard to get around with the amount of things they give us.

Is life in the camp better than it was in Baghuz over the last few months?

Definitely. I mean, I'm not starving, I have a roof over my head, whereas before I was sleeping outside.

There was no medical care so everyone was getting sick. My kids died because of sickness. So yeah.

You have obviously been through a lot over the last few years. Can you describe what it has been like to live with and under the Islamic State?

At first it was nice, it was like how they showed it in the videos, like 'come, make a family together'.

Then afterwards, things got harder, you know. When we lost Raqqa we had to keep moving and moving and moving. The situation got difficult.

Was there a point when you started to have second thoughts about your life under Islamic State?

Only at the end, after my son died. I realised I had to get out for the sake of my children - for the sake of my daughter and my baby. Yeah.

Only at the end?

Yeah.

You didn't have any regrets up until that point?

No.

What was it about Islamic State that attracted you? What did you like about it?

The way they showed that you can go [to Syria] and they'll take care of you.

You can have your own family, do anything. You're living under Islamic law.

Did you know what Islamic State were doing when you left for Syria? Because they had beheaded people. There were executions.

Yeah, I knew about those things and I was okay with it. Because, you know, I started becoming religious just before I left.

From what I heard, Islamically that is all allowed. So I was okay with it.

You didn't question that?

No, not at all.

There's a struggle going on in the UK now about whether you should be allowed to come home or not.

Yeah, I know.

John Mc Gowan said...

Cont..

What are your feelings about that?

I think a lot of people should have, like, sympathy towards me for everything I've been through.

I didn't know what I was getting into when I left and I just was hoping that for the sake of me and my child, they could let me come back.

Because I can't live in this camp forever. It's not really possible.

The head of the intelligence services in the UK says people like you are potentially very dangerous. What would you say to him?

They don't have any evidence against me doing anything dangerous.

When I went to Syria, I was just a housewife for the entire four years - stayed at home, took care of my husband, took care of my kids.

I never did anything dangerous. I never made propaganda. I never encouraged people to come to Syria.

They don't really have proof that I did anything that is dangerous.

Your family have made an appeal for you to come home. They are pleading with the British government for you to come home. Do you have a message for your family?

You know, just keep trying to get me back. I really don't want to stay here.

I don't want to take care of my child in this camp, because I'm afraid he might even die in this camp.

What do you think life would be like back in the UK?

I don't know. Because I know they would be a lot of restrictions on me, I wouldn't be free to do things that I used to be able to do.

I don't know if they'll take my child away and all these things. That's one of my biggest priorities.

I left because of him, so I don't want him to be taken away from me and I'm just trying to give him a better life.

If the authorities took the child away from you, would you accept that?

It would be hard to accept. I would try my best to keep him with me.

I don't see any reason why they would take him away from me.

There are concerns because of what you have been through, views that people think you may have or still have in regard to Islamic State.

That's something they have to question me about before they take my child away, I guess.

One question that people are asking is whether you can be rehabilitated.

It would be really hard because of everything I've been through now.

I'm still kind of in the mentality of having planes over my head and an emergency backpack and starving, all these things.

I think it would be a big shock to go back to the UK and start life again.

May I ask, what was it that attracted you? Was it from watching videos, was there somebody who recruited you? What was it that prompted a 15-year-old girl to go to Syria?

During the time I left, al-Dawla (Islamic State) was on the news and stuff, and like a lot of videos were coming out and I saw all the videos on the internet and that just kind of attracted me to them.

Like it attracted a lot of people.

Do you know whether your friend Amira Abase [who she travelled to Syria with in 2015] is still alive?

I don't know. I haven't heard from her in a long time.

How did you feel when your other friend, Kadiza Sultana, died?

It was a big shock because it was at the beginning of when we left. It was maybe a year after we left. It wasn't something I suspected.

Like, now if I heard that Amira was dead, I wouldn't be surprised.

I would be hurt obviously, but I wouldn't be surprised because of the situation she's still in.

When Kadiza died the situation was still good in Raqqa, it just came out of nowhere.

Do you feel that you have made a mistake? When you look back at what you've been through over the last four years, do you feel like you've made a mistake?

A mistake in going to al-Dawla?

Yes, a mistake in coming here, living under Islamic State.

In a way, yes, but I don't regret it because it's changed me as a person.

It's made me stronger, tougher. I married my husband. I wouldn't have found someone like him back in the UK.

I had my kids. I did have a good time there, it's just that at the end things got harder and I couldn't take it anymore.

I had to leave.

Have you had any contact with your husband, does he know that you have had a child?

No, I don't know how to get in contact. I don't know if they'd let me get in contact with him and I don't know where he is right now.

I would like to get in contact with him.

Have consular officials from the British government been in touch with you?

No, just another journalist, that's it.

Are you able to see the news coverage centring on you?

No, I don't have my phone, I can't go on the internet, I don't know what's going on around me right now.

Just getting in contact with my family was difficult. I just got lucky, I guess.

You have had some contact with them have you?

Yeah the last journalist that came he contacted my family for me.

Do you have a message for them?

Just please don't give up on me. Try to get me back I really don't want to stay here.

It must have been a terrible shock for your family when you left.

They were [shocked]. Because at first obviously they did try and ask me to come back, but I kept saying no.

Then they gave up, and now I'm kind of, after four years I'm asking them for help now.

It's kind of, a big slap in the face to them.

But I really need the help.

What would you say to them?

I'm sorry for leaving.

Do you feel that there is the possibility of a good future for you and your son?

Yes, if the UK are willing to take me back and help me start a new life again.

I'm just trying to move on from everything that's happened over the last four years.

A grand jury is slated to hear the Jussie Smollett case next week, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation into the Empire actor's alleged hoax attack.

Chicago police insiders told TMZ that authorities are keeping a close eye on two Nigerian brothers, who were arrested and questioned about the attack before being released on Friday, to make sure that Smollett doesn't try to contact them.

Investigators have said they believe Smollett may have paid Empire extras Abimbola 'Abel' and Olabinjo 'Ola' Osundairo $3,500 to assault him in an orchestrated, rehearsed attack on January 29.

Sources say Smollett initially agreed to sign complaints against his assailants, but declined to do so once he heard that Abel and Ola were the men in custody because he knew them and felt bad for them.

Reports of a possible grand jury emerged hours after the Chicago Police Department said Smollett was not yet being considered an official suspect, despite insider claims to the contrary.

'We have some information that needs to be corroborated and verified with the Empire cast member before we can answer this question,' CPD said in a statement to TMZ.

'After new developments, we've reached out to his attorney and requested additional time to interview him.'

Smollett has furiously denied claims that he orchestrated the assault and said 'nothing could be further from the truth'.

Abel and Ola reportedly told detectives that the 2am attack was supposed to happen earlier and that they did a practice run beforehand, according to CBS Chicago.

Sources said one of the brothers put a rope around Smollett's neck and poured bleach over him while the other wore a red hat and yelled racist and homophobic slurs at him.

The brothers, who reportedly had a relationship with Smollett and were extras on Empire, told authorities they had bought the items used in the attack at the actor's direction.

Smollett had told police that on January 29, two assailants tied a rope around his neck and poured an unknown chemical substance on him while yelling 'Empire f****t' and 'Empire n*****' at him.

That narrative, however, is now under serious scrutiny by investigators, who reportedly have evidence that Smollett directed his 'attackers' to buy the rope used in the 'assault' at a local hardware store.

Documents prove two Nigerian brothers, who work as extras on the highly rated Fox drama, bought the rope which was found around Smollett’s neck at Crafty Beaver Hardware Store in Chicago.

Sources said that the brothers used Smollett's money when they made the purchase on the weekend of January 25.

They also bought two red plain hats that they wore during the alleged attack, according to sources close to the investigation.

Police believe that the red hats were purchased at a local beauty supply store in the Uptown section of Chicago.

'We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation,' Chicago Police spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said.

'We’ve reached out to the Empire cast member’s attorney to request a follow-up interview.'

Chicago police are now ‘eager to speak to Jussie Smollett’ in light of the new information that was uncovered, according to ABC News.

‘We have been in touch with Smollett's attorneys,’ a Chicago Police Department spokesperson said. ‘We made our intentions clear.'

WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR ABOUT THE JUSSIE SMOLLETT CASE

Here is what we know so far about the alleged attack on Empire star Jussie Smollett and the ongoing investigation by the Chicago Police Department.

Since CPD is not commenting citing the ongoing probe, the public has been left to rely on Smollett’s version of events.

On January 29, Smollett was allegedly assaulted by two men at around 2am.

Reports indicated that he was allegedly beaten up and had a noose tied around his neck.

The alleged assault took place as Smollett was on his way home after buying a sandwich at a local Subway.

Initial reports indicated that the attackers were ‘white men’ who yelled ‘This is MAGA country’ while yelling racist and homophobic slurs and pouring bleach on him.

But during an interview with Robin Roberts of ABC’s Good Morning America, Smollett denied that his assailants wore red MAGA hats.

Smollett also told Roberts that contrary to reports, his ribs were not broken as a result of the incident.

After the assault, some began to wonder if Smollett concocted the entire story.

That there were those who doubted Smollett stems from a number of factors.

A Chicago Police spokesperson said on the day after the alleged attack that investigators were unable to find evidence of an assault.

The only surveillance camera at the scene was pointed in the opposite direction.

Smollett also phoned the police from his apartment rather than from the scene.

When Smollett initially refused investigators’ request to hand over his phone, this raised eyebrows.

Smollett then handed over his phone records, but they were redacted in order to protect the privacy of people not involved in the attack.

On Friday, police arrested two Nigerian men in the connection with the attack - only to have them released later.

Since both men are black, this has led some to be suspicious of Smollett’s claim that this was a hate crime.

Information emerged later on showing that Smollett knew the two men who were arrested since they were extras on Empire.

A theory floating around on social media stated that Smollett staged the attack because his character was being written off Empire.

But the show’s producers and writers quickly refuted that claim.

Ola and Abel were picked up at O'Hare Airport while disembarking a flight from Nigeria on Wednesday night.

The brothers were paid $3,500 before leaving for Nigeria and were promised another $500 upon returning, according to WBBM-TV.

Earlier on Saturday, Smollett hired Michael Cohen's high-powered criminal defense attorney, as the police investigation into the attack he reported last month took a sudden shift amid allegations of a hoax.

It came as police in Chicago suddenly released the two Nigerian extras on Smollett's show, who had previously been described as suspects in the attack, saying that 'new evidence' had emerged in their interrogations that requires further detective work.

'Due to new evidence as a result of today's interrogations, the individuals questioned by police in the Empire case have now been released without charging and detectives have additional investigative work to complete,' Guglielmi said in a statement on Friday night.

The Osundairo brothers' attorney, Gloria Schmidt, spoke briefly to reporters after their release, hinting that Smollett's legal future could hold difficulties.

'There's so many moving parts to this that will come out in time,' Schmidt said when asked if her clients had helped Smollett stage the attack. 'I'm going to let them tell their story when the time is right.'

Smollett has vigorously denied speculation that details of the attack were fabricated or staged, speaking out in an interview that aired on Wednesday just hours before the Osundairo brothers were detained.

It is unclear at this time what the Osundairo brothers told police that would alter the course of the investigation.

JUSSIE SMOLLETT COULD GET 3 YEARS IN PRISON FOR FILING A FALSE REPORT TO POLICE

Filing a false report to police in the State of Illinois is considered an act of disorderly conduct, which is a Class 4 felony.

That means that anyone found guilty could face between one and three years in prison.

By law, the crime of disorderly conduct is committed in Illinois by anyone who 'transmits or causes to be transmitted in any manner to any peace officer, public officer or public employee a report to the effect that an offense will be committed, is being committed, or has been committed, knowing at the time of the transmission that there is no reasonable ground for believing that the offense will be committed, is being committed, or has been committed.'

Late on Friday, police sources said that cops had seized a bottle of bleach from Smollett's apartment, according to Fox News correspondent Matt Finn.

Meanwhile, new information surfaced about the Osundairo brothers, who in the course of 48 hours went from 'potential persons of interest' to 'potential suspects' to being under arrest because investigators had 'probable cause that they were involved in a crime' to being set free.

Since their release on Friday night, they have been staying at an undisclosed location.

Police said that the brothers were the two men who were seen on a surveillance image released to the public, and Smollett positively identified the two men in the image as his attackers in a televised interview.

The two brothers are both strongly opposed to President Donald Trump and fervently pro-LGBT, fellow Empire cast and crew members tell TMZ. Both men are said to be loyal fans of former President Barack Obama.

Smollett is said to be close with the brothers and would frequently approach them on set to discuss health and fitness.

Colleagues on the tight-knit Empire set said they had a hard time imagining that the Osundairo brothers could have been involved in the kind of homophobic and bigoted attack that Smollett described.

Tania Cadogan said...

cont.

Police initially said that they tied the brothers to the reported attack using meticulous investigative efforts, including surveillance videos and information from ride-sharing companies.

Although Smollett said he did not know who attacked him, both brothers are known to the actor and he follows them on social media.

Their shared Instagram account also features a video of them working out at the private gym in Smollett's luxury apartment block.

The brothers left Chicago for Nigeria hours after the attack.

Their shared apartment was also raided by police, who took away bottles of bleach, electronics, a red hat and a pair of Nike shoes.

The FBI is also involved in the investigation after Smollett reported receiving hate mail.

Federal investigators have taken the lead on the mail case, and are supporting Chicago police in the investigation into Smollett's report of an assault.

Police have been cautious in their official public statements about the case. At last report, investigators still officially considered Smollett a victim in the case.

Smollett has continued to angrily denounce any speculation that the attack did not occur as he described, ascribing racist motives to skeptics and saying that no one would doubt him if he had reported being attacked by non-white assailants.

'I will never be the man that this did not happen to,' he told ABC on Wednesday. 'I am forever changed.'

January 29, 2019
Jussie Smollett tells Chicago police he was physically attacked by two men in downtown Chicago while out getting food from a Subway restaurant at 2am.

The black and openly gay actor tells authorities the men used racial and homophobic slurs, wrapped a rope around his neck and poured an 'unknown substance' on him.

Smollett told detectives that the attackers yelled he was in 'MAGA country,' an apparent reference to President Donald Trump's 'Make America Great Again' campaign slogan, which some critics of Trump have claimed is a racist dog whistle.

January 30

Chicago police say they've reviewed hundreds of hours of surveillance camera footage, including of Smollett walking downtown, but none of the videos show the attack.

Police obtain and release images of two people they would like to question.

January 31

Trump tells reporters at the White House that he saw a story the night before about Smollett and that, 'It doesn't get worse, as far as I'm concerned.'

Smollett's family issues a statement calling the attack a racial and homophobic hate crime.

Smollett's family says he 'has told the police everything' and 'his story has never changed,' disputing assertions leveled on social media that he has been less than cooperative and changed his story.

February 1

Smollett issues a statement telling people that he is OK and thanking them for their support.

He says he is working with authorities and has been '100 percent factual and consistent on every level.'

February 2

Smollett gives a concert in West Hollywood, California, opening with an emotional speech, saying he had to play the show because he couldn't let his attackers win.

At the end of the set, he announces that he fought back against his attackers, calling himself 'the gay Tupac'.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters is in attendance at the concert.

February 13

Good Morning America airs an emotional interview with Smollett, in which he blasts speculation that the attack was staged as itself racist and hateful.

Hours later, Chicago police pick up two Nigerian brothers at Chicago's O'Hare Airport on their return from Nigeria.

Cops identify the two men as the individuals seen in the surveillance images released from the night of January 29. They were identified using records from a ride sharing service.

Sources confirmed that the men were brothers Olabinjo 'Ola' Osundairo, 27, and Abimbola 'Abel' Osundairo, 25.

Both had worked on Empire and they were known to be close to Smollett.

Cops questioned them about the case. Police also searched the apartment where the men live.

Two television stations in Chicago report the widespread belief among investigators that Smollett staged the attack as a hate hoax.

Chicago's police superintendent later said that he had no evidence to prove that the attack was a hoax.

Producers of 'Empire' dispute media reports that Smollett's character was being written off the show.

High-powered criminal defense attorney Michael Monico reveals that he is representing Smollett.

February 15

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielimi says the two 'persons of interest' are now considered suspects. He says the men are in custody but have not been charged with a crime.

Hours later, Chicago police release two men without charges after arresting them on suspicion of assaulting Smollett and holding them for nearly 48 hours.

A police spokesman said the two are no longer considered suspects and that investigators have 'new evidence' to consider as a result of questioning them.

Even if his career wasn't at risk before, it is now.
This may even make him unemployable as an actor as who would want to hire a criminal who faked an assault and alleged lynching as well as claiming racisim and homophobia.
Who would want to take the risk of being accused of a hate crime by someone seeking attention and inciting race and homophobia hate?

I wonder what his excuse/explanation will be when charged?

"You don't even want to see the truth"

I see three professional actors. They act out a scene in a script. One plays the victim of violence and hate. The other two act the part of the attackers, The actor who played the victim, then tries to persuade the police and the public that it is real instead of fake.

I see the actor who played the role as victim be exposed as a fraud by the police when the actors who played the part of the attackers reveal that it was scripted and they received compenssation.

What truth does Smollett want others to see that they don't want to see?

I see that he is a bad actor and writer who cannot peddle his narrative to the police after the media enabled him to voice his story.

I see that being confronted with the facts was not in the script, so now he has inserted a perceived "truth" that no one wants to "see."

Smollett is now typecast as the leading man in fake hate and violence. Nice work.

Below is a transcript of the interview (it's also worth looking at the video -> very strange body language):

KAMALA HARRIS: “Wwwich tweet? What tweet?”

INTERVIEWER: “Eh, the, about, eh, saying that it is a modern-day lynching. That, ehm, eh…”

KAMALA HARRIS (looking away from the interviewer and then looking back at the interviewer again): “Sorry, ha, ha, ha…”

INTERVIEWER: “Jussie Smollett.”

KAMALA HARRIS: “Ehm …, I, I, [or: a, a] eh, OK, so, I will say this about that case. I think that the facts are still unfolding and, ehm, I’m very c… , ehm, ….. concerned about, obviously, Jussie.”

Youtube video of a longer interview with Kamala Harris. At 4.12 the interviewer starts asking questions about the Jussie Smollet Case. Below is a partial transcript.

INTERVIEWER (4:12): “Ah, you were involved in law enforcement for a long time. You just passed, eh, this, eh, anti-lynching legislation that would make lynching a federal hate crime.”

KAMALA HARRIS: “Yes.”

INTERVIEWER: “Ah, and then, eh, the parallel situation with Jussie Smollett in, in Chicago. Are you angry that it looks like now that he may have fabricated this and, and created this situation in which a lot of people came to his defense in a way that now appears to be unwarranted?”

KAMALA HARRIS: “Well I think the facts are still kind of rolling themselves out. So I don’t actually know what happened. Ehm, but I will say that I’m very proud that finally, eh, the United States Congress and then the United States Senate after 200 years passed legislation that acknowledges that lynching is a crime and should be punishable as such. As a career prosecutor I prosecuted a variety of violent crimes including homicide. Lynching is part of a real dark stain on America’s history. Ahm, it involves people being forced to be taken from their homes. It involves people being hung, dragged, men being castrated while crowds would applaud. Ex..extreme acts of violence that never went with any kind of arrest, most of them, with any kind of arrest or prosecution or sentencing or punishment. And, ehm, I’m very proud that, that unanimous United States senate, again for all of our diversity, ha, ha, ehm, it was bipartisan. Ehm, unanimous agreement that finally our country needs to recognize part of our history that we don’t want to remember but must and that we’ve done something about it.”

INTERVIEWER: “Yeah, some of those pictures are terrifying, eh, just to see what has happened in our past.”

KAMALA HARRIS: “Yeah, but, but also, listen, there w.. we have a case as recent as 2011 that was a lynching case in our country, so, it’s part of our past but it’s also part of our present. You know, we’ve had people at hi.. hi… the highest levels of government en..engaged in black face and, and in, in this kind of, eh, behavior. There’s so much of our history that we have not fully come to, to, to, to reconcile that causes people to either be ignorant about what happened or overlook the significance of it. So we have to keep these conversations alive.”

INTERVIEWER: “People always talk about the conversation and people thought the Obama presidency would be this restorative moment in some way. But how do you move that ball forward of racial reconciliation when it seems to be going in the wrong direction right now .”

KAMALA HARRIS: “Well there’s no question that we right now in our country have very powerful voices that are trying to sow hate and division among us and I, I say that, that it’s not reflective of who we really are. It’s not reflective of the nature of who we are. I strongly believe that we as Americans have so much more in common than what separates us. And it is with that knowledge in our hearts and in our minds and in our souls that we have to lead and we have to move forward. Ahm, the issue of race in America is still an issue that we must deal with and, and deal with the uncomfortable truths. Racism is real in America. Antisemitism is real. Look at the Tree of Life synagogue. Look at what happened in Charlottesville. Look at what we’re dealing with in the country still. Homophobia trends, phobia. These are issues that we must talk about uncomfortable though it may make us. So that we can deal with it and combat them. And, ahm, and I think that we all know that it’s so very much an issue in our country.”
