As readers here know, I believe that Statement Analysis training is for any and every one interested in truth and language.
I think it is essential for journalists, counselors, therapists, lawyers, business owners, and parents of teens ( :) ) to know truth from deception. The common profession is investigator, with criminal the most targeted audience, yet civil investigators are often able to devote more training to analysis, because they do not receive training in vehicles, weapons, etc. (see articles on insurance investigators).

Detecting Deception with Statement Analysis
|
Investigative Statement Analysis can help police officers and investigators detect deception better during their interviews and interrogations. Detecting deception is difficult, and there are no absolute indicators of deception, but statement analysis will help you focus questioning on the most promising areas that are likely to be deceptive or that are missing information. Key principles include building rapport and establishing a baseline of behavior with whom you are talking, and look for changes in their behavior and language and note where in the story changes occur. Second, ask open ended questions which prompt a narrative account and really listen to what they are saying. Listen for changes, indicators of missing information, sensitivity, and other clues and then probe their account in those areas. This will develop additional detail from truthful people, but will also probe the areas where a deceptive person is likely to be withholding information or fabricating information. Liars tend to plan or script out what they intend to tell you, but they can't plan everything, and this detailed, probing questioning at key areas brought out through statement analysis will help to bring out the truth!
