Pair held without bond in child disappearance

April 20, 2013 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Prosecutors say a Maywood woman beat her son to death because he was 'crying and whining, then claimed he was abducted.
Lakesha Baker and her boyfriend Michael Scott are charged with first-degree murder in the death of 1-year-old Bryeon Hunter.
The boy was reported missing on Tuesday. Baker claimed three men attacked her and took off with the child. But prosecutors say Baker and Scott beat the boy then dumped his body. It has not been found.
"There's no reason to do anything to any child," said Maywood Police Chief Tim Curry. "They're innocent, they're helpless. But it's even more egregious that you can find it within yourself to hurt your own."
Saturday a judge ordered Baker held without bond and set bail at $750,000 for her boyfriend. Baker's lawyer says he's certain she'll be found not guilty.

ReplyDeleteThe mug shot of the mother is frightening. I had to look twice to make sure what I was seeing was actually bruises and not eye make up smeared from crying.
ReplyDeleteI do not want to see what the poor baby looks like after seeing the mom.
My heart breaks for this baby.
here is a link with gruesome details, I wish I hadn't read it, but it was a train wreck for me one I started. Some can handle this sort of thing. It did open my eyes to the pure evil of some people. Thank God the majority of us treat our children and the children around us as precious gifts.

Ugh, I just read the link. I suspect she hated Bryeon's biological father and took it out on Bryeon. Poor baby. Did she ever love him, cuddle him or treat him well? I suspect not. Despicable excuse for a human in his "mother" and her boyfriend.
DeleteI can picture it now, the boyfriend telling Bryeon's mother to hold still while he sent a few punches her way...I think this is referred to as alibi building.
ReplyDeleteBryeon's grandmother saying NO COMMENT, media would have to talk to her lawyer - why the heck does she need a lawyer?? Or once Bryeon went missing did she intuitively know how this would end?
I can't think of a worse betrayal than that from your own mother. Poor Bryeon. Heart-breaking.
I can't tell you how many times I've read an account of what happened to a child at the hands of her/his mother and/or boyfriend and tried to remember what I was doing when they were going through the horror and the hands of the ones that should have protected them. I also wonder as I sit here typing now what cruelty is being done to another child.
ReplyDeleteHow can the people around these monsters not know what they are made of?? I admit I don't surround myself with depraved people so this may be the scenario of water seeks its own level, but I am still appalled at the meanness, self-centeredness and lack of empathy so many of our nation's parents are capable of.
I wish I could have saved little Bryeon and taken him home to live with me and my family. He deserved so much better.
I'll cry for Bryeon, and little Joshua Davis, Aliyah Lunsford, Ayla, Lisa Irwin, Hailey Dunn, the Skelton brothers, Jahessye Shockley, Shanaiya Davis and so many more again tonight. I know may of you will too.
In the kidnapping story she was going to McDonald's..was released behind Burger King. A Possible dump site was in the water near a McDonald's..what's with all the fast food??

ReplyDelete@ Teary eyed...it is true, there will be so many more innocent helpless babies suffering at the hands of their parents/step parents etc, right now, as we read.
Why? When will this end? What makes them think they have the right to behave in such evil ways. More of these monsters need to be caught, convicted and dealt with severely and maybe, just maybe these tragic cases will become less.

You mean to tell me these two can be detained and held in jail for a missing child that LE & Judges "believe" her and coolio murdered without a body as evidence?

Why isn't something being done! Two years is too long. Scurry County LE is corrupt, definitely!

ReplyDeleteHe was sucha baby he fit in a book bag. I am embarrassed to say this but I hope she gets her ass kicked again and again. I'm sick of these parents. Im sick of hearing their bullshit, everything from their own childhood abuse to drugs explaining why they murdered their kids. I HATE THESE PEOPLE. I applaud law enforcement officers that allow the legal process to run its course because I dont know that i wouldn't become corrupt and want to throw a couple punches at that woman's face too.

ReplyDeletePoor little baby. I hate to say it but he is better off in the place he is now than if he had lived and been doomed to remain with this woman. I hate to think of the 4 year old's future or what he's been through.

ReplyDeleteI too, Lis, believe they are all in a better place when they get to leave this earth and the beatings and torment that is inflicted on them. Poor little angels. There's no telling the abuse the 4 yr old has suffered too and will need a lot of help in years to come; IFF he can even be helped. Unfortunately, he might have already been beaten into becoming a madman himself someday. Anon 1

There is a big difference in the two cases. The mother and boyfriend admitted they killed the boy..... Read the above link someone provided for us....
