Tommy Morrison, former heavyweight champ and star of "Rocky V," died on Sept. 1, 2013 in a Nebraska hospital at the age of 44. Morrison's death was confirmed by his wife Trisha to the mixed martial arts website, "MMA Dirty," which reported he died of "respiratory and metabolic acidosis and multiple organ failure." His death was also confirmed by Morrison's long-time promoter, Tony Holden to the Associated Press. Wildly popular because of his good looks and punching power, in 1989, one of his fans included Sylvester Stallone, who later cast him in the role of "Tommy Gunn" for the fifth installment of the "Rocky" series. The heavyweight champ, nicknamed "The Duke," tested positive for HIV in 1996, a result he challenged later in life. He had been bed-ridden for a year before his death
It's an American tragedy that this strong, handsome, physically fit fighter wasted away in a bed without any hope in middle age.

Steroids in general can mess with immune functions, def. not a good plan if HIV positive. Wonder why he never had a second or third HIV test? Easy enough to disprove..

ReplyDeleteThis s an individual who was in denial, but I think, despite being in denial, it shows that he knew he had HIV. How sad that he entered this state of ignorance, which ultimately claimed his life.
ReplyDeleteThis is the only quote I came across from him. "I do not believe I am HIV positive," Morrison said in a telephone interview. "It was a false positive. I know it was. It has been 10 years that I have allegedly had HIV."
He was right. He didn't believe he had HIV.

ReplyDeleteThe Amber Alert issued for Lakeside teenager Hannah Anderson on Aug. 5 triggered hundreds of people to phone in what they thought were helpful tips.
The missing 16-year-old and her kidnapper, James DiMaggio, were at Disneyland. They were in Goleta. South Carolina. Mexico. They landed in a space ship. Were near a body of water.
“We got so many tips on this, it was weighing down our system,” said San Diego police Officer Jim Johnson, who works with the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line.
“Once we hung up, the phone rang again. Every psychic in the world contacted us, and people were walking in off the street.”
His partner at Crime Stoppers, sheriff’s Deputy Adriana Uribe, was assigned to screen the tips from inside the sheriff’s homicide unit and pass along any that might be useful.
“Information was coming in from all directions,” Uribe said. “I think it was great that people were calling.”
But, she added, not one tipster placed Hannah and DiMaggio anywhere near where they were found.
The initial Amber Alert for the East County kidnapping case included Hannah’s 8-year-old brother, Ethan, but it soon became apparent that he had died with their mother at DiMaggio’s Boulevard home.
Investigators say DiMaggio killed Ethan and their mother, Christina Anderson, 44, on Aug. 4, kidnapped Hannah, and rigged his house to ignite after they left. Ethan’s body was burned beyond recognition.
Even though the tips called in to Crime Stoppers and a homicide hotline failed to lead to DiMaggio, the Amber Alert did.
Two couples riding through a central Idaho wilderness on Aug. 7 spotted the blonde teenager and older man hiking to a lake and thought they looked out of place. When they returned home the next day, one of the riders saw a news account of the Amber Alert and recognized Hannah’s photo. He notified Idaho State Police, launching a massive manhunt.
An FBI hostage rescue team shot and killed DiMaggio and brought Hannah to safety on Aug. 10.
“The Amber Alert did make the difference in locating her,” said California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Mary Bailey in San Diego.
Amber Alerts are triggered by any law agency wanting wide and fast publicity on a kidnapping case. In California, the information is routed to the CHP and Caltrans in Sacramento, and electronic freeway signs light up with vehicle descriptions. The Anderson kidnapping touched off the state’s first use of a cellphone notification system. Other Western states issued their own Amber Alerts for Hannah.
Johnson said as tips reached the Crime Stoppers call center in Texas, they were forwarded to him and Uribe. They assessed more than 200 tips and whittled them down to 70 worth sending to investigators. Another hundred or so tips came into the homicide hotline.
“The investigators did such a good job,” Johnson said. “They had to go over everything with a fine-toothed comb.”
Uribe said the sightings followed no pattern or geographic progression. Calls came from Canada, New York, Montana, Missouri and states in between.
There were reported sightings at various gas stations, but when local police checked security video, the men shown were clearly not DiMaggio, Uribe said.
The dozen psychics who called in with visions or dreams all said Hannah was alive, near an open space, and near water. While they weren’t ultimately wrong, Uribe said, none pinpointed Idaho. Some called back several times because their visions changed, Johnson said.
The final tip came in 12 days after Hannah’s rescue, Johnson said.
“I think that tip was that the moon was influencing their behavior,” he said.

ReplyDeleteAs a long time reader I'm disappointed by the new comers that are vomiting their ignorance all over my favorite blog. Isn't there another blog for them to loiter around? A place they can be with their own, people that will find them funny and agree with their uninformed opinions. Why hang out here? When its obvious their interruptions are born out of an inability to follow along. I, for for one wish they'd take a hike-and let the grown folks talk.
