California kidnap suspect leaves money to member of victim's family
Associated Press
SAN DIEGO – A man who died in a shootout with FBI agents after kidnapping a 16-year-old girl and killing her mother and brother named a member of the victims' family as his life insurance beneficiary, a spokesman for the man's family said Monday.
James Lee DiMaggio left $112,000 to Hannah Anderson's paternal grandmother, said Andrew Spanswick. He didn't know why but believes it was for the benefit of Hannah, the girl abducted by DiMaggio.
Hannah was rescued in the FBI shootout on Aug. 10 in the Idaho wilderness and returned home to San Diego.
DiMaggio, 40, had been like an uncle to the Anderson children and the father's best friend.
DiMaggio named Bernice Anderson as the sole beneficiary of his employer-issued life insurance policy in 2011, substituting her for his sister Lora Robinson, the lone survivor of his immediate family, Spanswick said.
DiMaggio lived with Bernice Anderson for about two years before buying a house in 2009 in Boulevard, about 65 miles east of San Diego, Spanswick said.
Authorities found the remains of Christina Anderson, 44, and Ethan Anderson, 8, in the Boulevard house after it was set on fire.
DiMaggio's sister called Hannah's father, Brett Anderson, on Friday to tell him about the life insurance payment.
"They had a long conversation about their mutual loss, trying to make sense of what happened, and neither of them had an explanation," Spanswick said. "Brett seemed to recognize that Lora was as much a victim in this as everyone else. He wished her the best."
A spokeswoman for Brett Anderson and his family, Stacy Hess, declined to comment.
DiMaggio worked as a telecommunications technician at The Scripps Research Institute in San Diego. Spokeswoman Jan Coury also declined to comment.
Steven Weisbart, chief economist at the industry-backed Insurance Information Institute, said insurers generally won't challenge a claim unless the beneficiary is suspected of involvement in the death.
Investigators have given no indication that DiMaggio had any accomplices.
"Pretty much as long you're dead, the insurance company has very little opportunity to deny the claim," Weisbart said.
Lora Robinson has taken possession of her brother's cat, Princess, from Hannah Anderson, Spanswick said. DiMaggio, a cat-lover, took Princess while on the run, and the cat was reunited with Hannah after the rescue.

This case is getting hinkier by the day ...
Insurance companies usually investigate the beneficiary -- and they should in this since it is a "high profile case."
When DiMaggio was killed, he was wanted for the murder of 2 people and burning his house down.
DiMaggio's death was during the commission of a felony -- which most insurance companies will not pay out since that was the case here.
The insurance company needs to investigate this entire "story" from Hannah -- it seems LE is not investigating her "story."
She is NOT a "child" -- she is 16 going on 25 !
All My Opinion.
Here is a link to news.ball which have screen shots of Hannah's social media responses BEFORE she was "kidnapped."

Mizz, I notice one of her "friends" comments that Hannah's dad left the family because of her. I wonder if that could explain his flat effect? Maybe he suspects his daughter had something to do with this.
Peter, im really surprised you havn't touched on the Erica Parson case given that every time her adoptive parents open their mouths there is deception in almost every word..
OT..
Olivia Newton-John: Death At Star's Home..
An investigation is under way after a man is found shot dead inside the home of Grease star Olivia Newton-John and her husband.
A workman has been found dead from a gunshot wound inside a South Florida home owned by Olivia Newton-John and her husband, authorities say.
Jupiter police Sergeant Scott Pascarella confirmed the victim was a 42-year-old man who did not live at the home and was not related to its residents.
Sergeant Pascarella said the victim had permission to be at the home, but was not staying there.
Initial media reports listed the death as a suicide, but Sergeant Pascarella said an investigation is under way.
He did not say whether foul play was involved in the death.
Calls to the singer's agent and manager were not immediately returned.
Newton-John's hits include You're The One That I Want, performed with John Travolta in the 1978 movie Grease, and 1981's Physical.
She starred as Sandy Olsen in Grease and as Kira in the romantic musical fantasy Xanadu two years later.
The death is the latest tragedy to affect the 64-year-old singer and actress
Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992. She underwent a partial mastectomy and has been free of the disease for more than a decade.
In 1995, her then-boyfriend Patrick McDermott vanished apparently after going on a fishing trip.
Five years later, she said there would "always be a question mark" over his disappearance, even though the US Coast Guard considers him missing at sea.
Earlier this year, Newton-John postponed a series of concerts in Las Vegas to spend time with her sister Rona, who later died from brain cancer.

He changed the beneficiary to a member of her family in 2011! If he had done it a month ago, I would be more inclined to believe he was the sole participant in this incident..but that sure makes it sound like a long term 'relationship' was going on.
Everyone should take a min to check out that article showing screenshots of her social media weeks before this happened. She answers one question posed to her by saying she 'most misses' her family getting along. Other posters are attacking her, (don't worry, she holds her own) and even reference that she is the reason her father left. I didn't want to 'blame' Hanna (even if she & DiMaggio were involved in a relationship) because of her age. I felt like he must have taken advantage...but, not after reading her social media postings from BEFORE the 'kidnapping'.
She was no delicate teenager, being led astray...if anything I would think DiMaggio would have a tough time matching wits with her. This may explain why DiMaggio was said to have gotten angry and cut their earlier trip short (one of her friends said in an interview that he got angry and was CRYING because Hanna was on Facebook not paying attention to him, and she had deleted pics they took on his phone). Almost sounds like HE was the one taken in by the fantasy of them being together. All that being said, none of it erases his responsibility for what he did, including his contact with Hanna, (if that is the case) since he was the adult with the obligation to do the right thing.
Jen- I agree with you- the picture I got was he was taken in by this fantasy of her...she leading him on to enjoy trips and gifts, etc. all the while telling her friends he's the weirdo..she probably promised him things, being raised to get her own way and do what it takes to get what she wants, he might have had a little immaturity or "mental" problems not realizing the reality of it, = formula for disaster
Unless of course Hannah killed her family and he took her away to protect her.
yeah it makes you wonder.. who's idea was it to put an end to the family? did she bait him in to help her? or did he do it to be her "knight in shining armor" i feel like this man had less than average IQ. and Hanna was manipulative to get what she wanted. just trying to figure out the formula
After reading Hannah's ask.fm, I got a picture of her that was not very flattering. Throwing F-bombs, sexy photos, having a party-bus, giving lap-dances. Sounds like a pretty worldly 16 yr old to me. I'd like to read those letters left in his garage, I bet they tell the story.
Rek, I don't know about his IQ, most of these computer tech guys are pretty smart, but nerdy. He probably never came in contact with a hottie like Hannah, and lost his mind. Still doesn't give him an excuse, he's the adult. But she might have been getting no telling what from him. Then I'm sure if the friends noticed that he was too interested in her, she told the 'he has a crush on me' story.
Wonder if we'll ever know the whole truth.
Wasn't the "he creeps me out" comment made just recently? Could she have thrown that out if she was already planning this.
Rob, true, althought there are different types of IQ. think jodi arias- scored high on a test but very immature emotionally, and socially, i still consider that "below average" in my book
Rek, i laughed reading that. I hope Hannah is not a Jodi Arias in the making.
Off Topic, re: Erica Parsons.
This is a snippet from an article about day of the two parter Dr. Phil appearance.
"On the “Dr. Phil” show today Casey and Sandy Parsons denied any wrongdoing: “I never harmed Erica. I never abused Erica. I never beat Erica. I did not kill Erica,” Casey said.
Sandy Parsons denied allegations from Erica’s adoptive brother that he chopped Erica up and buried her in his backyard.
“Everything I’ve been accused of is a lie,” he said."
Casey seems strong on her denial that she didn't kill Erica, but weak in assertations that she did not harm, abuse, or beat her. While Sandy, in a rare opening of mouth... denies nothing.
Interesting.

Wow, so many advocates of "blame the victim" are posting on here! I can hardly believe people are seriously suggesting that when Hannah was 14 in 2011, she somehow manipulated then-38 year old DiMaggio into naming her paternal grandmother as his life insurance beneficiary. Isn't it MUCH MORE LIKELY that this fact supports her statements (consistent with other friends and family members' statements) that DiMaggio and her father were very close friends?
Furthermore, assuming for the sake of argument that there was some pre-existing romantic or sexual relationship between the 16 year old girl and the 40 year old man, it is ridiculous to characterize the grown man as some sort of victim who was "taken in" by a "worldly" 16 year old evil mastermind. The suggestion that it may have been Hannah who murdered her mother and brother and poor DiMaggio was coerced into being an accomplice after-the-fact is beyond the pale. Also it is directly contradicted by known facts such as the time of death being while Hannah was at school and law enforcement's description of DiMaggio (not Hannah) shooting at them.
I'd love to know what secret evidence these posters have that contradicts all of the evidence gathered by the San Diego Sheriff (who is indeed in the process of thoroughly "investigating her story" contrary to MizzMarple's claim.)
from http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-hannah-anderson-20130816,0,7794291.story
"Although search warrants in the Hannah Anderson case revealed extensive communication between the 16-year-old and the man who allegedly kidnapped her after killing her mother and brother, San Diego County sheriff's officials maintained Friday that they still considered the teen a victim.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Jan Caldwell said the department's investigation was ongoing and declined to comment on the specifics of the search warrants released this week.
But she reiterated previous comments from Sheriff Bill Gore, who said Hannah "was not a willing participant."
"As Sheriff Gore said earlier in the week, Hannah is a victim in every sense of the word," Caldwell said in an email. "Our follow-up investigation has not changed that sentence."
Katprint, I agree with much of what you state. What puzzles me is if he didn't eventually intend to kill at least one member of Hannah's family, why did he not make Hannah's father -- his good friend -- the beneficiary? Or Hannah's mother? Why the grandmother? She didn't have custody of Hannah.
I for one am not characterizing him as a victim, you are misinterpreting what I have written if you are using me as an example. I was contemplating the formula for this to occur. No one has secret evidence. we have our knowledge of life experiences
Insurance companies usually investigate the beneficiary -- and they should in this since it is a "high profile case."
When DiMaggio was killed, he was wanted for the murder of 2 people and burning his house down.
What were you doing when they found you?
Sitting on the ground.
Why did they shoot him? Did he resist arrest?
No he was shooting a gun in the air.
less than a minute ago
HE WAS SHOOTING A GUN IN THE AIR...it sounds like death-by-cop(FBI). He drew their fire on purpose by shooting into the air.
Hannah's social media responses BEFORE she was "kidnapped."
Can you provide a link to Hannah's social media responses BEFORE she was groomed, drugged, etc...
She was no delicate teenager, being led astray...
Hannah is talking about being drugged. Who is her god father?
How do you know what he drugged you with?
He told me it was a type of pain reliever
What do he drug you with
Ambien
Why did you take the pills? Did he force you to?
Yes.
Are u sure u didn't want to be with him. I mean in Hollywood you guys roomed together ?
No we didn't.? We stayed at my god fathers house.?
Did he rape you?
I'm not aloud to talk about it so don't ask questions about it
It sounds like Hannah's Dad was the mastermind behind all this. Sounds like he and Hannah could split the money 50/50. Anyone else notice how Hannah stated that she "would have" thought her Mom would come looking for her (no mention of the Dad). Sounds like the Dad and Hannah came up with the plan knowing DiMaggio was crazy and would do whatever was suggested bc of his obssession w Hannah.

Makes me wonder if the Dad was encouraging Hannahs inappropriate sexual behavior and the Mom did not like it and that's why he left? Mom was going to tell and was sure to get custody ending all the fun times for Hannah?
If people read in DiMaggio's past, you would have saw that his father committed suicide over a 16yo... funny how son does the same in some sense, even around anniversary of his father's suicide ...There was an article about his past and DiMaggio's Xwife gave some insight into the quiet video gamer and his relationship with the Amderson family..

The "secret evidence" is called STATEMENT ANALYSIS !
Peter is an EXPERT on this subject and I respect and rely on his analyses.
I want to know MORE about HOW and WHY Ethan, an innocent 8 year old was murdered, as well as WHY Christina, Ethan and Hannah's mother, was murdered.
This is Just My Opinion but Hannah knows "something" about those murders -- her responses indicated DECEPTION !
She was "kidnapped" and her mother and brother were murdered, and 2 days after being rescued and finding out about the deaths of her 2 close family members, she is on social media with an "attitude" IMO and discussing her a "manicure."
NOT normal behavior, IMO for someone who could have been killed by this nutcase who killed 2 other people!
He was found. He was running from some sort of debt. I think it was a few years ago.
Did I miss something? When did she turn into Lolita and he turn into Humbert Humbert? This is all very Mildred Pierce-ish. She was 16, that does make her a 'child' regardless of what was posted earlier. I dont think anything she did as a selfish, narcissistic teenager, if she turns out to be that, is relevant or is even meaningful since he slaughtered her family and set them on fire. Her friends may just be bitches.
However, if she told him to kill her family that's different. Im not getting that vibe, but again, I do get the feeling I must have missed something because it doesnt matter to me if she was a bitchy Lolita to his disordered, obsessive irrational self. Please fill me in if there's a big chunk I missed.
Btw, was she assaulted? I read a while back she told a friend she thought he was creepy and she was afraid of him. I find it impossible to believe that no one in the family had any inkling he was deviant. Their credulity beggars the imagination. I think most of us have a native intuition. We may choose to ignore it, but in my experience it usually always bears out, no matter how preposterous it seems to me or others .
Yeah, that's a good point. I'd like to add to that by saying hyper sexual, provocative behavior is an indication of prior sexual abuse, and the damage that causes puts them at high risk of being victimized again at some point throughout their lives. Maybe thats who this wordly seeming teenager really is, a kid arrested at that stage of development pretending to be an adult in control of her life and sexuality.
Yes!!! Thank you, Katprint! She's been turned into the anti-heroine of a Nabokov or James Cain novel.
She lost her mother and her brother. He may have assaulted her at 14 for all we know. Her parents were BLIND to his fascination with their daughter. That disgusts me, your parents, scrutinize adults in your children's lives, pay attention! I believe she MAY have been a victim of sex abuse at ab early age. Everyone analyzing her for being a manipulative, cunning sex pot. No one thinking, if that's true, what other traumas could have caused her to be that way? I work in a field in which you would not expect to find pedophiles but I can spot them now, I can feel when Im around a sociopath or a narcissist. I do not get how the parents missed ANY clue, I dont believe it. Maybe they ignored her claims and she ended up the subject of disgust because her family failed her.
OR her dad was negligent and she felt closer to her mom. This is sick.
Why was Ethan murdered? I don't understand that . He wasn't a threat to anyone. Was it so the money couldn't be spilt up? Did he know something or witness something? It doesn't make much sense.
starts 70 minutes from now
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/badgirlpollyanna/2013/08/21/was-hannah-anderson-kidnapped
Someone said, "why was Ethan murdered?" I don't understand.
Well, maybe Uncle Crazy killed him cuz Uncle Crazy is ummmm... CRAZY.. A nutjob..
Or maybe in that big stack of letters from Hannah, she was conplaining about the mother, brother, pops, even the dog... So Uncle Crazy only has eyes for his Hannah so in his fantasy world he read and re-read those letters and took them out....Tortured them and killed them... Maybe he was frigging shoving them in their faces and reading them to them!! Do I know? Hell no but it makes more sense since torture was involved...
Maybe, THAT would explain the torture in their deaths, but to say Hannah was a part of it when the frigging
FBI, and sheriff and all the different departments
CLEARED her is ridiculous !!!
Hannah and her father having anything to do with the insurance money is so way out there!! So off the wall!!
Sometimes people that are sexually abused as children grow up and become people from whom others need to be protected. At some point they morph from being an innocent victim into being a perp. Sexual abuse should never be an excuse. It may be a reason, but it should never be an excuse. Our prisons are full of people that were sexually abused. Hannah reminds me of someone I know who was sexually abused at a very young age and is now a very dysfunctional person. I wonder if law enforcement is excusing Hannah, because she was a victim of sexual abuse.
I want to clarify my opinion on this...no matter WHAT the relationship between Hanna/DiMaggio, he was the adult, and the one who was SUPPOSED to do the right thing.
Even if Hanna was throwing herself at him, (which I'm not saying she was) he was a 'trusted' adult in a position of power over Hanna since he was the one giving rides, financing trips, playing the role of uncle/confidant, etc. He should have NEVER crossed the lines that he did with Hanna (overnight trips, multiple daily phone calls, etc), and the fact that he did suggests he was mentally unstable, (or at least emotionally immature) to even WANT to spend time with a girl nearly 30 yrs younger than him.
I am not blaming her for HIS actions, I was only pointing out that she (by her own words) was 'experienced,' and certainly didn't hesitate to stand up for herself when challenged by people 'judging' her, both before AND after the incident. This Is significant to me because it makes me question the idea that she went along with DiMaggio without resisting, especially if the 'obsession' was only one-sided.
uuhmmm the FBI C.A.R.D. team has not solved a case until this one...... because they don't make mistakes or get it wrong. i'm thinking they need this "win" for further funding, so i doubt they will ever admit they fubarred this case also.
her innocence is not so clear... even though "LE" cleared her.
On another blog it has been mentioned that cells phones in CA and other states a;; got an amber alert text when hanah was reported missing.
If this is the case why did hannah not know she was being looked for given she had her cell phone with her.
it was also mentioned that she would likely have makeup in her purse and probably visited restroom why did she not leave a message in a restroom saying who she is etc.
It has been suggested that perhaps she did not want to be found!
There are also claims she and dimaggio were spoted hours before the fire was reported, just what time did the Mom and Rthans and the dog die?
Jersey-Jane.
Hannah has not been cleared by LE, They have a lot of unanswered questions to ask her.
At a minimum they need to know what exactly was her relationsg hip with dimaggio in that there were handwriiten letters from her, phone calls and texts between them and 13 calls on the day of the murder when both turned their phones off at the same time ( were they aware that cell pings could place them togeather at the scene of crime and before the scene of crime which would be more incriminating?)
Hannah can only be cleared of involvement in the tirture and murder of her mom, brother and dog if she passes a polygraph and answers all questions truthfully and fully.
As it stands her answers indicate sensitivity, why would they be snsitive if she was the innocent victim in this?
The family of kidnapper James DiMaggio is asking the girl he abducted for a DNA sample so that they can determine whether DiMaggio was her father.
A spokesman for DiMaggio's family told 10News.com that the family made the request after it was revealed that the DiMaggio left $112,000 to Hannah Anderson's paternal grandmother, who he named as the sole beneficiary of his life insurance policy. DiMaggio died August 10 in a shootout with the FBI in a remote area of Idaho. Authorities believe he kidnapped 16-year-old Hannah after killing her mother, Christina Anderson, and 8-year-old brother, Ethan, at his house in Southern California.
"He expected the grandmother to take care of the two children with the money. He stated he did not want it to go to their parents because they were having marital problems and he didn't trust them with the money on their own," Andrew Spanswick told 10News.com.
Explaining the request for a paternity test, Spanswick said "We are requesting DNA samples from Hannah and anything they can get from Ethan. There are rumors Jim was the children's real father. The parents didn't marry until 2002. We think it's strange he left them so much money with no explanation." DiMaggio named Hannah's grandmother, Bernice Anderson as the sole beneficiary in 2011, replacing his sister Lora Robinson.
Spanswick also described Hannah Anderson's recent behavior as suspicious, saying, "Some things that Hannah is saying on her Facebook doesn't add up so far; her latest posts are disturbing." He did not elaborate.
A spokeswoman for the San Diego County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that DiMaggio used a timer to set fire to the home where Christina and Ethan Anderson were found dead.
DiMaggio was spotted on a Border Patrol surveillance camera at 12:10 a.m. Aug. 4, about 20 hours before his home caught fire, said the spokeswoman, Jan Caldwell. He is seen inside his 2013 blue Nissan Versa with 16-year-old Hannah Anderson at a westbound highway checkpoint.
Investigators who searched DiMaggio's home found an incendiary device, handcuff boxes and "arson wire," according to a search warrant. It also says they discovered letters from Hannah and a handwritten note, without elaborating on the contents.
Hannah Anderson says she didn't learn her mother and brother died until after she was rescued. She said on a social media site last week that she was "on the road to Idaho" when the fire ignited.
Also on Tuesday, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office said Christina Anderson died of blunt force in a brief posting on its website. A search warrant unsealed last week says firefighters found Christina Anderson's body near a crowbar and what appeared to be blood next to her head.

Anons at 7:07 and 7:18 -
The similarities to the plot of Nabokov´s Lolita struck me from the beginning. But (unlike what most people associate with the word Lolita) the novel is told by an unreliable narrator. Nabokov makes it quite clear that Humbert Humbert is a monomaniac who does not see things, and report what happened, in an objective way. The Lolita in the story is not a child-woman seductress (as he claims), she is a teenager who falls victim to a predator, who ends up justifying his acts by blaming the victim, as so many pedophiles do.
Reading between the lines, we have the story of:
- a close friend of a parent, almost a member of the family (Humbert starts out as the lodger of Lolita´s mother, flirts with her, eventually marries her, while being obsessed with Lolita from the first time he sets eyes on her).
- the death of the mother to get hold of the daughter (Humbert´s wife has a deadly "accident" *cough*, leaving him the only family that Lolita has left).
- possessive jealousy (Humbert tries to prevent Lolita from joining after school activities or doing other things teenagers do)
- taking the girl on a road trip to isolate her (Humbert and Lolita set out to travel twice)
- Lolita does not love Humbert, nor do they share any common interests. He "buys" the sex between them with pocket money, gifts, even food, or small liberties.
- Lolita learns to adapt to the circumstances and to manipulate Humbert to a degree, but she plans her escape soon. She does not start out as a manipulator, she is forced to become one by Humbert.
- Humbert ends up leaving Lolita a large sum of money, which secures her future, and going to prison where he dies.
Surprisingly close.
Has anyone seen the picture of her in the "Lolita sunglasses'?
The exact same sunglasses as on the cover of the book?
Hello?
A lot of psychopaths were sexually molested. Their lifelong patterns of behaviour are in place by the age of 7 years old.
Does that mean we don't hold them responsible when they are legally adults? What if they are psychopaths before they are adults? Then they are innocent?
If she is a psychopath there would be no changing it and the mark would already be on her at the age of 16.
"Hannah Anderson says she didn't learn her mother and brother died until after she was rescued. She said on a social media site last week that she was "on the road to Idaho" when the fire ignited."
if these are her true words does this sound like a victim being held captive describing where they were.. "on the road to idaho?" really that is how you describe being held captive?
I think people are missing some of the points.. we arent saying she was the one that murdered them, i for one could care less about the insurance payement..doesn't seem like somethign we can speculate on too much. what i'm more intrigued with are HANNAH's words..some substance we actually have to think about..and "on the road" just sounds like youre chugging along to your destination
"The family suspects that DiMaggio may have had a physical relationship with Christina Anderson, who DiMaggio also killed, and that her children may be his and not Brent Anderson's, reports CBS station KCBS in Los Angeles."

I said DAYS AGO the dna test and swabs in the mothers car was for testing who was child/parent or sibling related!!!
I did this very test twice. 400.00 a pop!
"I'm trying to stay strong. And get out the truth. You don't know I could be crying answering these questions at the moment. You can show real emotion over social media. Do you really think I would be Ohkay with being kidnapped and hurt Nd finding out my dog lil brother and mom was killed.? Your fucking crazy."
Order is important. MY dog, lil brother and mom - she takes possession of the dog and mentions it first.
"DiMaggio was spotted on a Border Patrol surveillance camera at 12:10 a.m. Aug. 4, about 20 hours before his home caught fire, said the spokeswoman, Jan Caldwell. He is seen inside his 2013 blue Nissan Versa with 16-year-old Hannah Anderson at a westbound highway checkpoint."
20 Hours??!!!
12:10 am August 4th ??!!!
Hannah answered a question on the "ask" account - did you mother and brother get burned alive? she answered "yes" 20 hours later? and how could she answer this question so bluntly. I would expect "I don't know" "I hope not"
At the very least, you would think her family or friends would keep her from posting or going to all these sites on the internet that are accusing her, just to keep her from being hurt more. But no one seems to care that there are nasty things being said about her and to her and continue to allow Hannah to go out and read and respond to it.

A search warrant unsealed last week says firefighters found Christina Anderson's body near a crowbar and what appeared to be blood next to her head.
did you mother and brother get burned alive? she answered "yes" ...
It says that she dies of blunt force trauma, likely from the crowbar found near her head and a pool of blood...unless he told her that both her mom and brother died by fire, then how can she say yes? I thought she learned of their deaths AFTER being rescued, and also learned about the crowbar after being rescued, and I think after article about the crowbar too...what the hell? and that is sooo telling she lists her dog first, before her brother and mom...she also says her mom, brother and her were "inseparable", but by not saying We, she shows the mom and brother had a tight bond, but she did not, and is likely lying about being "inseparable"...
Also when asked how he separated them that day, she says he tied them up in the garage, but will not say where she was...and abruptly closes the dialogue.
MizzMarple, I disagree that comments here are only about statement analysis. Speculation about why she did didn't use her cell phone? How do you know she was able to use it?
You are NOT using statement analysis to prove your opinion. There is a lot of judging going on here.
I have 2 daughters about 5 years older. I think it's terrible what their culture is like. The language, the sex. She is not outside of her teen world. Oral sex starts in middle school. I tracked my girl's down every time I had to. Wow she admits to having sex, I'm shocked! That behavior does not equate to a sociopath who would kill her mother, brother and dog. Being attractive can bring trouble at this age but it is not a crime.
@Mizzmarple and Hobs-
I was watching a show and they mentioned that only certain cell phones in California got the automatic alerts. I believe they were the more expensive plans/phones.
I know here in Iowa, my husband gets all alerts, weather, amber etc... My old ancient phone gets nothing like it.
<3 Sella
Stella 35 Good Point. You need a data plan. you can see a phone in Hannah;s hand exiting the car at a fund raiser. Can;t say it;s the same one but looks like a smart phone. My point is that we don't know that he allowed her to have her phone. He may have been the one to turn it off and kept it from her. No statement analysis proves otherwise.
I think Peter does a great job and love reading his analysis. I think there is more to this, but sociopath? Jodi Arias? Lured this guy?
Hobnob--I was wondering if that is why the Mom had a DNA swab test in her car--was she going to try to find out if DiMaggio was Hannah's father or younger son's father? (This is before I saw the story you posted.) Hannah looks a lot like the Dad--I think he is her bio Dad. Maybe he is the younger brother's father though?
PS. Neither Hannah or her Dad seems very upset about the whole thing. I feel the Dad and Hannah had this planned out. This is why Hannah did not think that her Dad would be looking for her. I had also pointed out how the Dad had said that the run in with the horsemen who spotted Hannah was a "chance encounter" but it "saved my daughter's life". And then quickly changes the subject.
Of course we know the run in was a "chance encounter": the fact that he points this out is bizarre since NOONE would think that it was anything but a "chance encounter". Except HIM. To him it was not such a "chance encounter" since he probably knew where they were. To him it would be an expected encounter--if he knew where they were then anyone they encountered it would be expected--not chance. TO HIM.
I would be shocked if Dad and Hannah weren't the mastermind's behind this. Sociopaths who knew that the nutjob DiMaggio was unbalanced, and could be guided into acting how they wanted him to. So they could get the money. I wonder how it ended up in paternal grandmother's name in the 1st place.
With the fire being set 20 hours after DiMaggio and Hannah left, did they find a timer, or is it possible someone else set it?
If the younger brother was Hannah's fathers son also, he (the Dad) did not seem upset at all.
No way this guy (the Dad) was not involved. He showed no grief for the boy.
Sociopaths focus in on anniversary's birthdays, etc.
So these 2 sociopaths knew DiMaggio was a nutjob waiting to happen and used the anniversay of his father's suicide (I think that's what happened?) to find his most unbalanced time of year basically. That's what I think,
I read some where that both of their phones shut down at 4pm.
Was it a mutual decision?
He take her's away and shut them both down?

Tomorrow on TODAY: Hannah Anderson speaks out
Hannah Anderson, the 16-year-old held in the wilderness decided to speak with NBC News to thank her supporters. Watch at 7am ET tomorrow on TODAY
http://www.nbcnews.com/video/nightly-news/52813573/#52813537
Thanks Hobnob for the update about the Today Show.
Do you know if they post transcripts ?
If so, it would be great if Peter could do an analysis.
Oh, and it would also be great to get an opinion from a "body language expert."
it looks like there will be a transcript.
on the http://www.nbcnews.com/video/nightly-news/52813573/#5281353
it shows two tabs related videos and transcript of this video which will come from the close captioning
his content comes from Closed Captioning that was broadcast along with this program.
>>> first time from hannah anderson. she's the 16-year-old who was held hostage in the idaho wilderness for six days before being rescued. she decided to speak with nbc news to thank people for their support during her ordeal and address some of the inaccurate reports surrounding her capture. in a conversation to air tomorrow morning on "today," she credits the amber alert system for saving her life and calls herself a survivor.
>> in the beginning i was a victim, but now, knowing everyone out there is helping me, i consider myself a survivor instead. my mom raised me to be strong.
>> hannah anderson, brave and grateful tonight. you can hear what she has to say tomorrow morning on "today."
captioning can be a bit hit and miss, it doesn't always repeat exactly what was said so it is worth watching the video and comparing the captioning to see how accurate it is. it may not include repeated words, stutters, or nonsense sounds.
Thank god someone who made a "Lolita" comment had actually read the book.
I do not find their lack of emotions unusual- goes along with being poor- deprived- and living in unstable chaotic environment- they do care less for each other- due to not valuing themself- which was transferred to their children via their level of attachment- i.e. how well their basic needs were met during first year of life and then next 3....it’s not that way for all low socio-economic ppl, of course, but a majority I think. I observed it with my clients for last almost 40-years- its also the subject of my dissertation.
I think the DNA test thing is totally bogus. Hannah Anderson looks very much like her father. If I saw the two of them out together I would immediately peg them as father and daughter.
This girl's behavior is very strange, to say the least. I am sure that the interview airing tomorrow will show deception.
From Today show:
“This was a hard time,” she said. “And there’s gonna be harder times in life. But if I could get through this, I’m sure I can get through a lot more.”
"Was"? a hard time, she is over it already? And there are gonna be harder times? She lost her mother and brother, I don't know that I would want to think that there could be worse times ahead. Unless her definition of worse is having more information come out about her involvement.
I agree Jo.. as I recall the day I got the news that my dad had passed...I walked back to my desk at work and said "i just got the worst news of my life"
I mean what could be harder (that you are anticipating) than having two of your loved ones murdered in such a heinous way?
Thank You Hobnob !
----------------------------
Jo -- I agree with your comment !
And she said she exchanged letters a year ago with DiMaggio because she and her mother weren’t getting along and DiMaggio helped her work through the turmoil.
“Me and him would talk about how to deal with it,” she said. “And I’d tell him how I felt about it. And he helped me through it. They weren’t anything bad. They’re just to help me through tough times.”
She says the letters were from a year ago when she was having issues with her mom. I wonder if the letters are dated or if there is anything to show they are from a year ago and weren't exchanged just before her mother was murdered.
She starts out describing the letters in past tense and then goes to present tense - They’re just to help me through tough times.
My own transcription from 5 min youtube video:
Hannah:
“The, the phone calls, weren’t phone calls, they were texts, because he was picking me up from cheer camp.. and he didn’t know the address or what, like, where I was. So I had to tell him the address and tell him that I was gonna be in the gym and not in front of the school just so he knew where to come get me.”
“in (and?) the letters, um, were from like from a year ago when me and my mom weren’t getting a long very well, me and him would talk about how to deal
with it, and I’d tell him how I felt about it,a nd he helped me through it, they weren’t anything bad, they were just to help me through tough times”
Regarding online criticism:
“they don’t really know the story so they kind of have their own opinion on what they hear”
Re: her brother:
“he had a really big heart, and.. (sniffles, tears )”
Re: her mother:
“she was strong hearted and very tough. She knew how to handle things”
Re: amber alert/nationwide search
“I didn’t really know what it was but I know it helped people find me, and it made them like realize that it’s hard to find people out there, but with everyone’s support it can help a lot”
Regarding her rescue:
“I’d like to say thank you because without them I probably wouldn’t be here right now”
“I wanted to thank the horsemen and the amber alert and the sherrif and the fbi, with everyone a-a- put in their time to find me, and my dad, and my friends and my family and just all of my supporters that helped spread the word and the news because the news helped get out there fast
Regarding critics:
“you are who you are, you shouldn’t let people change that and you have your own opinion on yourself and other people’s opinions shouldn’t matter”
It has been clarified that the DNA test belonged to investigators, it was not found in Christina Anderson's car (on a sidenote, how generous of the station to print a tiny little retraction at the very end of this article).
Quoted from the article:
" Ed. note: NBC 7 News initially reported on a DNA test kit listed among the evidence removed from Christina Anderson's vehicle on the search warrant documents. A sheriff's department spokesperson clarified the contents of the list explaining the DNA test kit was used by investigators and not found in the vehicle."

I wasn't suspicious until I just saw her speak saying she's not a victim she's a survivor. but before said "in the beginning I was a victim". ---why draw contrast between the beginning and later?
what are the chances that she wanted to be taken away from her family (in the beginning)? It's pretty normal desire for teen. but then the reality of what this guy did about it -- I assume surpassed her fantasy.
there is something "gray area" about how this crime was manifest.
Where is the outrage for what he did to her family? she feels some sympathy for her brother it seems..the interview seems to be about her, she is her own focus, she is not dwelling on the audacity someone commited this crime. she calls herself a survivor in light of her mother/brother being murdered in this way. why the need to identify with being a survivor? it seems like she is trying to reassure herself but where is she identifying her mother/brother were victims? instead she moves on to focus on herself and moves away from labeling herself the same we would label her brother/mother.
she also says "i'd like to say thank you" which is not the same as "thank you!" she does say thank you later but the first sentence is telling.
her description about her mom is also a little off putting to me
Agree REK, her focus is on herself and making sure she is marketable as a victim/survivor. She talks about how DiMaggio would help her with issues with her mom - I think this comment could be very telling:
me and him would talk about how to deal with it, and I’d tell him how I felt about it
I would be curious to ask her how he suggested that she "deal" with her mom? I suppose the letters she got back from him may not be available to LE so again it will be her side of the story only.
She talked about context of the text messages, LE should be able to confirm that.
This girl strikes me as being very self-centered and attention-seeking. In fact, she is so self-centered that she really appears to be having a hard time accepting what actually happened. I think she is so focused on being the center of attention, that she has not started to properly process what happened. This is also why I think it likely that she was in a romantic relationship with Dimaggio. It would fit right in with her need for attention.
Where is the outrage for what he did to her family?
http://blog.eyesforlies.com/2013/08/hannah-anderson-speaks-out.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+EyesForLies+%28Eyes+for+Lies+Blog%29
What experience and/or research backs this claim of yours?
•"I got my nails done to help support my mom and brother. (maybe rather than sending money, people should get their nails done too in support of the family) The blue is for Ethan and the pink's for my mom. And my toes - They say Ethan and Tina on them."
•Her father, who lives in Tennesse, had been by her side since her rescue. "He flew out to Idaho to the hospital to come and visit me (not to be with her, to visit her?).. It was helpful and, it got us closer." (were they not close before?)
•Using social media to communicate with her friends helped her during this difficult period: "I connect to them through Facebook and Instagram -- it just helps me grieve, like, post pictures and to show how I'm feeling. I don't think she posted any sad pictures) And I'm a teenager. I'm gonna go on it." (she was also a teenager when she handwrote notes to DiMaggio, why no internet or instagram for that?)
Perhaps Hannah wrote letters to JD because her mom grounded her from seeing him and from using her cell phone. Grounding from cell phone use is a popular punishment for parents to use with teens nowadays, because they are soooo addicted to their social networks, and they become motivated to modify their behavior (or at least give parents the appearance of modified behavior) so they can get their cell phones back. The letter writing is very odd, because it's almost unheard of under normal circumstances today for teens. Teens text mostly and call sometimes from what I've observed. The letter writing also gives the appearance of a desperate move to contact and maintain a relationship with a forbidden love. I have a feeling that Hannah's mom had her suspicions about their relationship, and that her suspicions may have led to power struggles and conflicts with regard to her relationship with Hannah. Perhaps Tina struggled with her suspicions vs. trust for JD. What I would like to know, is when was the last outgoing phone call from Christina's cell phone?
I wonder why Hannah did not write "Mom" on her toes instead of "Tina". Did she call her Mom "Tina"? If not, then she obviously did this to impress the public. She said she did it as a tribute to her dead family members. She's so detached and cares so much what others think. Her level of narcissism is off the charts! She's aware of this to some extent, based on her statement, “you are who you are, you shouldn’t let people change that and you have your own opinion on yourself and other people’s opinions shouldn’t matter.”
She needed to remind herself that other people's opinions shouldn't matter suggesting that they DO matter to her.
I was just coming back to post about her using her mother's name instead of using "Mom". The expected would be for her to use "Mom" as even the public would know who she was referencing. My experience with teenagers that call their parent by their name instead of Mom/Dad are kids who do not get along well with their parent(s). It is done as a way to rebel and to separate themselves from the parent/child relationship.
Thnak You HOb Nob and others for the quotes from the show!!!
"in the beginning i was a victim, but now, knowing everyone out there is helping me, i consider myself a survivor instead. my mom raised me to be strong"
1. "but" refutes what was just said.
2. She said because "everyone out there is helping me" is the reason she is a survivor. This makes no sense. It is not "everyone"...ALL the people in the USA or everyone around the world....it was trained FBI men who tracked, shot and killed Dimaggio.
3. "everyone out there is helping me" is present tense. I find this odd since it is context to the kidnapping scenario (which is done and over).
4. Victim: "a person harmed or killed as a result of a crime" Survivor: "a person remaining alive after an event such as removing cancer." A survivor has a CHOICE in the situation. (such as "should I choose surgery or not?") A victim DOESN'T have a choice.
5. RED FLAG to me. "This was a hard time,” she said. “And there’s gonna be harder times in life. But if I could get through this, I’m sure I can get through a lot more." There is a TIME GAP. A.) This situation was a hard time. B.)The future will have hard times. She is telling us, she isn't having a hard time right now. No hard times, not pain, no burden....This isn't right! The word "And" supports skipped info.
6. "Me and him would talk about how to deal with it,” she said. “And I’d tell him how I felt about it. And he helped me through it. They weren’t anything bad. They’re just to help me through tough times.” She skipped giving us info by using the word "And"... It It It It.....she never tells us what "it" is. "tell" is present tense, "They're" is present tense, "help me" is in present tense"...
THESE WERE JUST A FEW THINGS I FOUND
6.
For those who made comments about Tina/Mom...This was an excellent catch.
She puts her mother far away from her with her words. She has been doing this all along.
ANOTHER FLAG:
Peter Hyat said: "When someone is asked, "What happened?" the key to solving the mystery is when the subject moves away from "what" happened, and begins to explain "why" something happened.
This is the critical high point of analysis in a "what happened?" case.
It shows that the subject has the need to explain why he did something, actually anticipating being asked "well, why did you...?" in the questioning.
This is why we highlight:
"so, since, therefore, because, hence..." and so on, with the highest level of sensitivity in analytical work.
When you find a word, any word, that is like, "because" or "so" that explains why someone did something, grab it. It is your key."
______________________
"The, the phone calls, weren’t phone calls, they were texts, BECAUSE he was picking me up from cheer camp.. and he didn’t know the address or what,((she quickly changed was she was going to say out loud)) like, where I was. SO I had to tell him the address and tell him that I was gonna be in the gym and not in front of the school just SO he knew where to come get me.”
Also, present tense words indicate deceiption:
"to tell him the address"
"tell him that I"
"gonna be in the gym"
"so he knew where to"
"to come get me."
The text may very well reveail what she just said, however, she is deceptive. It is more likely she is "deceptive" as to WHY she and he made the texts.
"tell him the address and tell him that I was gonna be in the gym and not in front of the school"
She texted to tell him she wouldn't be infront of the school but, that she was inside of the school.
1. Hold the phone! Dimaggio was a life long friend of the family...like he doesn't know where the school was???!!!!!
2. He already knew where to go......because he was going to meet her outside the school!!!
MARBLES ARE FALLING OUT EVERYWHERE.

Where is the outrage for what he did to her family? August 22, 2013 at 3:51 PM
FYI in response to comment below- Jodi Arias IQ was a little bit above "normal"- which is just the cut-off between "normal" and "below normal"- which is saying very little and is in no wat anywhere near "high"- she may be "high normal"- but way below the lowest cut off for say- a child getting into a school system gifted & talented program- which is typically between IQ 132-134. She is just smart enought to be dangerous but nothing the least bit exception- and as far as different types of IQ- not relevant for her unless you use "sexual-IQ":@ REK said...
Rob, true, althought there are different types of IQ. think jodi arias- scored high on a test but very immature emotionally, and socially, i still consider that "below average" in my book

she's not a victim she's a survivor this is so charlie rogers
This content comes from Closed Captioning that was broadcast along with this program.
>>> we are hearing more tonight from hannah anderson, the 16-year-old held hostage in the idaho wilderness for nearly a week by a family friend. she spoke out exclusively to nbc news and tonight a lot of people are reacting to her story. nbc's kate snow has our report from san diego tonight.
>> it's kind of hard, but i'm hanging in there.
>> reporter: it's been less than three weeks since hannah anderson was abducted by family friend james di naimaggio.
>> this gentleman that was a friend of ours for a long time has taken everything.
>> reporter: hannah had no idea there was an amber alert across the west.
>> i love her dearly.
>> reporter: she didn't know dimaggio had killed her mother and 8-year-old brother ethan.
>> i had a really big heart and --
>> reporter: the family had clearly trusted the man they called uncle jim at his burned-out home, letters were found.
>> the letters were from like a year ago when me and my mom weren't getting along very well. me and him would talk about how to deal with it.
>> reporter: dimaggio would often give hannah rides to and from activities. that, she explains, is why the two exchanged 13 text messages on the day of her kidnapping.
>> he was picking me up from cheer camp and he didn't know the address.
>> reporter: but after picking her up, he drove her to this remote part of idaho where a group of horseback riders saw the odd couple and alerted authorities.
>> i don't know if we saved her life. i know we set the stage for somebody else to save her life.
>> i'd like to say thank you because, without them, i probably wouldn't be here right now.

>> it just helps me grieve, like post pictures and to show how i'm feeling and i'm a teenager. i'm going to go on it.
>> reporter: but that opened her up to judgment from complete strangers.
>> i didn't know people could be so cruel. they don't really know the story so they kind of have their own opinion on what they hear.

>> if i can get through this, i'm sure i can get through a lot more.
>> reporter: when we asked what she's learned, she hints at pain and regret.
>> to just not hold a grudge because you never know when someone can be gone.
>> reporter: hannah says she's getting ready to go back to high school the day after labor day . it will be overwhelming, she says, because so many people now know her story and are so vocally critical of her. but she says her friends have her back, and, lester, one thing she emphasized is she does not want anyone to see her as a victim but as a survivor.
http://www.nbcnews.com/video/nightly-news/52822854/#52822854
>> it's kind of hard, but i'm hanging in there
She doesn't tell us it is hard only that it is kind of hard. Something that is kind of is similar to and not the same as.
if it is only kind of hard, what is it in reality?
But is used to negate the previous so she is telling us it isn't hard or even kind of hard.
What is it if losing her mom and brother isn't hard or kind of hard especially knowing they were tortured before death.
>> this gentleman that was a friend of ours for a long time has taken everything
Gentleman?
GENTLEMAN!
This is the man who tortured and murder her mom brother and pet dog, why does she refer to him as a gentleman and no man, killer or murderer?
This is a huge red flag to me and would lead me to question not only her realtionship with dimaggio, i would also question her claims of being a victim here.
This is entirely unexpected language, especially from a teen.
This is close, that is distancing,
Why does she distance him from being a close friend of ours and also from the word gentleman.
Logically what would flow naturally is WHO was a friend of ours.
i had a really big heart and had is past tense, does she not have a really big heart now?
Really is a qualiefier, the sentence works without it. Qualifiers weaken the statement who is she trying to convince about her big heart
the letters were from like a year ago when me and my mom weren't getting along very well. me and him would talk about how to deal with it.
She doesn't tell us they were from a year ago, only they were like a a year ago, when was the last letter?
What was said in these letters by whom and how was it proposed to deal with it?
Why letters rather than the more usual text messages or PM's in social media as normally expected from a teen?
Was it so they couldn't be traced later on, with the expectation that they would perhaps be destroyed by the recipients?
Are the letters incriminating?
>> reporter: dimaggio would often give hannah rides to and from activities. that, she explains, is why the two exchanged 13 text messages on the day of her kidnapping.
>> he was picking me up from cheer camp and he didn't know the address
He picked her up from activities often yet he didn't know where the school was?
If he was picking her up from activities, what were those activities and where were they being held?
Why would it take 13 messages to find out where she was? Most phones and /or cars have gps feature so getting directions isn't needed just set in the location you want to get to and followed the directions.
The 13 text messages are senstive hence her need to explain them away.
>> reporter: but after picking her up, he drove her to this remote part of idaho where a group of horseback riders saw the odd couple and alerted authorities.
>> i'd like to say thank you because, without them, i probably wouldn't be here right now.
She doesn't say thank you, she'd like to say thankyou., she explains why she would like to say thank you. when someone has the need to explain why something happened it makes it sensitive.
It is interesting to note she doesn't tell us she wouldn't be alive right now which is the expected given what happened to her family and that she was an alleged victim, she insteads says she probably wouldn't be here right now.
Where is here?
She says here instead of alive, here is in a studio telling her version of events rather than with dimaggio, a man who murder her mom and brother and dog and with whom she was having some sort of relationship that involved long trips away and overnighters.
if she wasn't here right now ( the studio) where would she be? with dimaggio in the wilds perhaps?
it just helps me grieve, like post pictures and to show how i'm feeling and i'm a teenager. i'm going to go on it.
she is a teenager and so will post online showing how she is feeling and not because her mom and brother are dead.
the problem is her pictures and language aren't that of grief, she has had a makeover, she is carrying on as normal as if nothing has happened to anyone. If her pictures are showing how she is feeling then she is not griefstricken, she is enjoying her 15 mins of fame, the interviews, the media attention, the donations.
Randie said...
She puts her mother far away from her with her words. She has been doing this all along.
And where did she put their names, on her toes, as far away as she could put them.
HobNob - I believe when she was speaking about a big heart, she was speaking of her brother having a big heart.
>> i didn't know people could be so cruel. they don't really know the story so they kind of have their own opinion on what they hear.
Why is she claiming people are being cruel when they have good reason to question her version of event?
there is a 20 hr temporal lacuna ( why set a timer to go off 20 hrs after they had left when in that time someone could have entered the house and found the bodies and the arson wire, the timer or the arson wire could have failed or any number of other reasons why the fire didn't start.
if you are going to burn the evidence then the natural instinct is to use accellerant , set it alight and then run.
Why was there a need to leave a 20 hr break?
it would be obvious that the victims had been murdered as was seen even after the fire, was it to buy time? if so why given once they left the area they had no idea if anyone would go to the house.
It doesn't make sense.
She says they don't really know the story.
It's a story and not what really happened.
Really is a qualifier and weakens the statement, people know the story yet not really ther story.
people are questioning the story due to the discepencies, the 20 hr temporal lacuna and the evidence in letters, texts and behavior.
They j kind of have their own opinion not that they have their own opinion.
kind is a qualifier and weakens the statement.
Their opinion is kind of based on what they hear.
What they are hearing is causing many to question her role in the whole thing.
Are people being cruel because they aren't buying her story?
What are they eharing that is causing them to have an opinion that is cruel to her?
They are hearing she may not only be involved, she may even be the instigator.
She is aware and sensitive to what is being thought and openly said by the public and media.
>> she says her mother raised her to be strong.
>> if i can get through this, i'm sure i can get through a lot more.
Why is it important for her to tell us her mom raised her to be strong, strong against what?
What could be worse than having her mom and brother tortured amd murdered, her dog killed and being abducted?
The only thing that could be worse in her case, given the alleged killer and abductor is dead, is being questioned, polygraphed charged and prosecuted for her involvement.
Given what has allegedly happened what more could she be strong against ( i haven't phrased this very well)
Strong enough to resist questioning by LE?
strong enough to pass a poly?
Strong enough to challenege the case in court as a defendant?
>> reporter: when we asked what she's learned, she hints at pain and regret.
>> to just not hold a grudge because you never know when someone can be gone.
no pronouns, also she uses the distanicng pronoun you rather than the expected i.
just is used to minimise.
It is interesting she talks about holding a grudge as you don't know whensomeone can be gone.
Because explains why something happened.
Someone is gender and identity neutral. Given that it was her mom, brother and dog all of which are intensely personal why does she not say loved one, family member, mom, brother etc.
She distances herself from her family and introduces holding a grudge.
Is this her motive?
Was she holding a grudge because of something her mom and brother said or did?
was she told no or to stay away from dimaggio and this was her revenge?
She says can be gone rather than leave, die or in this case be killed.
Why the minimising language of can be gone rather than die or be murdered.
Was their torure and murder the result of a grudge?
It fits with what was done.
Torture is up close and personal, since money wasn't a motive the only other logical one is rage, payback, retribution.
Why would he take the time to torture then murder when at any moment he could have been caught?
the assumption then is he knew they would have time.
How would he know this unless he was told which points right to hannah.
With her introducing grudge i wonder if she took part in the torture? if the torture was at her instigation?
one thing she emphasized is she does not want anyone to see her as a victim but as a survivor. wasn't this what charlie rogers sputed before being found out as being a liar, prosecuted and found guilty and the same as jodie arias when she was found guilty of murder
Will we see t shirts being bandied about a la charlie rogers and jodie arias?
Good Job HobNob!!! Excellent posts!!
“It’s just ridiculous,” Brett Anderson said in a brief telephone interview Wednesday. “They identified Ethan through my DNA.”
he never said hannah was or wasn't his kid.
"It's" is minimizing so you can say the lie. "just" makes it easier to roll the lie off the tongue. offering other unrelated info as back up shows he is lying.
so how did i do? am i right?

YES ... GREAT POINT !
WHY NO outrage about what DiMaggio did to her little brother and mother ?
Hobnob, Great Analysis ! Thanks !
Unbelievable that she called this "murderer" and "kidnapper" a "gentleman."
JMO but what an odd choice for a "teenager" to use that word -- AND especially since he killed her family and dog, and "kidnapped" her !
I take it you didn't watch the show. If you had, you would know you just analysed a bunch of crap.
Some of the above were not Hannah's quotes, but dubbed in from earlier press conferences and spoken by others. Most of the other so-called quotes are transcribed inaccurately.
Unless you're all on the police force now, I believe it is time to lay off the 16 year old girl. Of course her words are sensitive....she has much to process and may even feel somewhat to blame. To top it off, her feelings of security and trust have to be severely damaged at this point. She was told to trust this person by her parents, and look what he did.
Of course she is explaining. She knows people like you all are questioning her. And of course she cares what others think...whoa...big discovery there! You'd be hard-pressed to find a teen-aged girl that doesn't care what others think.
She didn't. I notice commenters on this site run with inaccuracies all the time.
How long did you all go on about the DNA kit that was left by an investigator?
JMO ... but sometimes it is not what a person states, but what a person DOES NOT state.
Example : Did Hannah in any of her interviews say HOW DiMaggio kept her "captive" -- she was "kidnapped" and usually an abductor keeps the person "bound."
So ... did he keep her bound ? did he keep her in the trunk ? did he blindfold her ?
Also ... they drove over 1000 miles so they had to stop for gas ? Or did he have gas cans in the trunk like Jodi Arias ?
Also ... they had to stop and eat so did he bring food or did they stop to get something to eat ?
And IF they did stop for gas and food, she could have attempted to make a "get away" - this is what any "kidnapped" person would try to do.
Lots of unanswered questions which are being avoided not only by Hannah, but by the media and LE !
Just My Opinion ...
Thanks SUS!!
Once again no one reads Jackshit !! DiMaggio travelled BACK roads, no bathrooms for that lipstick message, some of you ponder..lololol...
Hannah was at Cheerleading Camp, hmmmm, THAT'S an easy one, NOT at her school or local school!!...some of these camps only allow a bagged lunch, towel, change of clothes, female products, cell phones, and no wearing of make-up or lotion for safety issues (sweating=slippery).... Do you really think Hannah would run with him without jeans and hiking shoes? Remember horseback rider said she word pants u would sleep in...mmmm...sounds like something u slip in after camp or a Lyrca yoga pant ....
Did you know that this wasn't the first 16yo that DiMaggio was trying to get cozy with? Read up, don't let days days go by you all thinking (Hannah brought her cat! Lolololol) and ( the DNA test being the mom's lololol).....
Why do you think the sheriff made it clear in his announcement that Hannah is a victim in a way that he DID NOT want you to think otherwise? The sheriff KNEW or foreseen THIS bullshit!! Anyone on this planet can be a victim, a drunk, the homeless, a prositute, a baby, yes, and an unruly, big-mouthed, lewd, know-it-all teenager that fights and can't stand her family....
Well said Sus and JerseyJane. The LE have read the letters and the text messages. They know what they contain. They know what she did and did not have along with her. He had a gun. They know a lot more than we do and they have determined she is a victim.
Jersey Jane, thank you for sharing that... me personally I am seeking the truth of the matter. the formula, if you will.
Jane Caldwell is the spokeswoman for the San Diego County sheriff.
Search warrants unsealed last week said Hannah was picked up from a cheerleading practice at 4 p.m. on Aug. 4, but Caldwell said "the practice was a day earlier".
The reason that Hannah called him a gentleman is likely because her father used those same words.
This is what her father, Brett Anderson, was recently quoted as saying: “A gentleman that was a friend of ours for a long time has taken everything,” Anderson told the somber crowd, many of them crying and hugging each other.
Many of Hanna's words during this interview seem very scripted and she appears to parrot the words of others including the words of her father and members of the media who have offered comments and explanations about teens and their social networks and greaving, etc.
Socynical,
You state that the reason Hannah uses "gentleman" is because her father recently used it.
this is an interesting point.
I am not sure if it is a word that is expected due to the murders, which is for another discussion, but your point is well taken and raises questions:
did she enter into her father's language?
In spite of the propensity of a young person to do so, would she have done it given the nature of murder?
Although I question her use of it,
Your post is interesting and should provoke some good dialog.
Peter
Perhaps she's reaching out to potential future jurors with the interviews.
One issue that I wonder is if the LE will close the case and/or not do a full investigation because she's the All American Blonde girl next door who can do no wrong.
From what some other sites have said, it sounds like Brett Anderson had pretty much given up the father reigns to DiMaggio. Wonder how long they were separated and the custody arrangements.
Why would Hannah's friend say that her dad left the family because of her?
Also someone elsewhere mentioned that Brett is/was a friend of the sheriff? Not sure if it's true and/or if it has anything to do with the quick claim to Hannah being a victim. Maybe the sheriff is in on it too? :)
As far as the crowbar? Any fingerprints on it?
Hannah was picked up from cheerleading camp/practice and they went straight to Idaho or to DiMaggio's house?
Was Hannah at gunpoint the whole time?
Lots of questions / theories. Hope she's not involved, but anything is possible. Hope it isn't swept under the rug.
To Jersey Jane and Sus: Is it true that Hannah and JD stopped at a Seven Eleven store during their journey where JD went into the store without Hannah and was in the store for some time - enough time for Hannah to exit his car, run and ask for help (all seen on video camera), but she didn't run or try to escape? The reason I ask is because I read this on another web blog. Thank you.
Brock...good question.
"Hannah was picked up from cheerleading camp/practice and they went straight to Idaho or to DiMaggio's house?"
I have read conflicting reports. I still don't know the answer.
The answer to this question begs the answer to "where" was she when Dimaggio was tying up her Mother and brother.
"Hannah was picked up from cheerleading camp/practice and they went straight to Idaho or to DiMaggio's house?"
Q: How did he separate you from your Mom and brother?
A: He tied them up in the garage, I’m done answering questions about it. So don’t bother asking.
SHE WON'T ANSWER THE QUESTION!
If he tied them up in the garage....HOW DID HER BROTHER GET INTO THE HOUSE AND DIE THERE??!!!
Hannah seems to display a disinclination tword her dad. Given what Peter said about the propensity of a young person to do "mimic" or "copy" someone AND add the pride she takes in her own right to feel how she wants (which is plain as day in her Today Show interview)....
I would think it very hard for her to mimic her Father.
By the way...for Bret A. to chose the word "gentleman" shocks me! I didn't know this. After what JD did to Brett's own flesh and blood...the use of the word "gentleman"....... is delusional!
"Hannah was picked up from cheerleading camp/practice and they went straight to Idaho or to DiMaggio's house?"
her phone that they had 13 text on, of her telling jim where and when to pick her up from cheer camp, was burned up in the house fire.
they obviously went to his home before leaving.
The words referring to Dimmagio as a"Gentleman" were Hannah's fathers words only. NBC inserted a clip with him saying those words, and that's why they show up in the transcript. Hannah did not copy him. Sometimes it's hard to tell who is doing the talking based strictly on transcripts. With that clarified, Hannah does seem like she may have copied things that were said by different members of the media and psych professionals to explain her social media comments, nail painting, smiling selfies within hours after returning home from alleged captivity.
How does your dad feel about this?

Yeah I remember Hobnob wrote a pretty offensive post about how the 3 Cleveland girls were probably faking it too, when they were first found.
The cops will never be able to pin this on Hannah-- she is too brilliant a criminal mastermind, and everyone else is dead. Plus, she probably seduced the sheriff as well, for good measure.
Crazy Kid,
Don't go so fast there. Hannah still has to knock off her grandmother who received the insurance policy. She'll want it all to her self. But that's probably already in her master plan.
crazy kid said...

---------------------------------
Exactly -- anyone who could testify against her is dead -- and any evidence or DNA evidence was burned in the fire -- oh, except the "letters" which have not been revealed to the public.
Also, LE will NEVER EVER admit that they made a mistake or that they were wrong ...
LE issued the Amber Alert "assuming" she was "kidnapped" ... so LE is not going to retract this.
WoW, a child DOESN'T have to be pulled into a car for it to be a kidnapping!!!!! A lollipop would suffice! LoL Are u serious??

What jumps out at me instantly is her use of the words "Yes", "No", "Nope", and "Yeah" in response to the questions. "Yes" and "No" are strong. "Nope" and "Yeah" are weak.
“Hannah is a minor, and we have to bear in mind that anything we say, anything we do, anything we write is going to stay with her the rest of her life,” Jan Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, told NBC San Diego.
Hannah is a minor and she needs to bear in mind that anything she says, does or writes is going to stay with her the rest of her life.
"20 hour head start"
it is kidnapping to hold a minor against the will of the parents for more than 24 hours. mom was custodial caretaker at the time. she could not say not to take hannah to the river. and it hadn't been 24 hours yet when LE engraved "JIM" on their bullets.
Did you have your phone when you got kidnapped?
-No, it got burned in the fire with everything else.
Problem...Jim picked Hannah up from Cheerleading camp around 4:00 Saturday afternoon and her phone was shut off then (his around then). The fire, however, didn't start until about 8 p.m. Sunday night. We know from LE that Jim and Hannah were on tape at the Border Patrol checkpoint at 12:01 Sunday morning. That's an 8-hr time gap. Where was Hannah all that time and where exactly was her phone then?
There's already a glaring absence of details during this 8hr time gap, during which: her mom ends up hit in the head with a crow bar and buried under a tarp in garage; her beloved dog ends up shot to death and hidden under a tarp in the garage; and her little bro ends up under a blanket in the house. So, where exactly was Hannah all this time? Note that Hannah never said at any point during this "kidnapping" that Jim took her phone away from her. So, how exactly did her phone get in the fire?
You know, for someone who repeatedly asserts that she wants to "get the truth out there", her story lacks critical details. She gives zero details of exactly how she got separated from her mom and Ethan and where she was/what she was doing while somebody was beating her mom, killing her dog, and somehow getting an 8 yr old to stay under a blanket.
I'm kind of thinking Hannah's telling a story and she hasn't figured out how to explain those important details yet, so she simply refuses to discuss it. People keep asking more and more detailed questions, so she suddenly comes forward now with "he drugged me with sleeping pills and I don't know how I got into the car".
It's odd that she "can't talk about" whether or not Jim raped her, even though he's dead. He can't exactly be tried for rape and there is no rapist to face at a trial. Why not just say "he raped me " if he did? Of course, the hospital would know if she was raped or not, if they fully examined her (wonder if she let them). Note that she has no problem answering if her mom and Ethan were burned alive though.
When a person has a traumatic experience, the chemicals released by the "fight or flight" response cause the event details to be permanently burned into their memory...even down to sounds and smells. Why is Hannah's story so devoid of details? It sounds and feels like she is making up details as she goes along.
Something else odd...
Hannah has previously stated that she "basically didn't sleep for six days" and she states he fed her trail mix and mashed potatoes and complained she was hungry. She claims she "carried 50 Lb backpacks back and forth across mountains" in what has been described by the horseback riders as extremely treacherous and unknown terrain. Yet the hospital only kept her overnight and her only visible injury was a twisted knee. Really?
It's interesting that Hannah doesn't address details until others bring them up.
Like someone commented that the drive to Idaho was so long, Jim had to have either brought food or stopped for food. Suddenly, we have Jim feeding Hannah trail mix and instant potatoes.
Posters began asking questions about the actual "kidnapping" and suddenly we have Hannah being drugged and somehow ending up in the car.
Someone asked if she knew she was being kidnapped and suddenly we have she was handcuffed.
Someone else asked why she didn't kick him and suddenly we have Hannah's feet being zip-tied.
It's really odd that, for someone going on social media specifically to "get the truth out", Hannah didn't just simply tell her story in detailed order from start to finish? That's what people do when they recount a true story. They may add an additional remembered detail later, but the major events are recalled in order and in detail the first time around. Think about your own memories of significant events (good or bad).
She has yet to address the 8hr gap between getting in the vehicle with Jim at school and being seen on the Border Patrol surveillance video. So, did she ride the go karts at Uncle Jim's or what? Exactly what was she doing while they were being beaten/tied up/incapacitated? Did she see or talk to her mom or Ethan after Cheerleading camp? Where did she and Uncle Jim go after he picked her up from Cheerleading camp? How do we know she was actually at Uncle Jim's house Saturday after 4 and not somewhere else (her phone was off and she never actually said she was there)? If she was at Uncle Jim's, was her mom and Ethan already there? Did she see them? Where were they? What was Christina doing? What was Ethan doing? Did she talk to them? What did they say? At what point did she not see mom or Ethan at Uncle Jim's (because they were clearly not together when the house burned down)? Did she eat dinner Saturday night? What did she eat? Where? With whom? Was there food found in Christina's system? Was Hannah found in the same clothes that she wore to Cheerleading Camp on Saturday? If not, how and when did she get a change of clothes?
When was the last time Christina and Ethan were seen by someone other than Hannah?
Lest I be accused of picking on Hannah, I'm looking at and listening to her actual statements...what she is saying and what she isn't saying and do they match up or are there major information gaps? Are there inconsistencies?
A mother and an 8 yr old boy are dead, brutally murdered. I want to know who, what, where, when, how, and why. Christina and Ethan deserve the truth. Hannah should want that too and have no problem answering the inevitable questions, if it's really as cut and dried as she says. As several people have already noted, there seems to be a major lack of outrage and anger from Hannah on behalf of her mom and Ethan. She may be a "survivor", but Christina and Ethan were not. Given her language (the use of/choice of/timing of cuss words, cutting people off when she doesn't really have an answer, etc.), she seems to have no problem with expressing anger. However, she only appears to be angry that people aren't automatically buying her story. Can you blame them? (Casey Anthony, Mark Redwine, Billie Dunn, Justin Dipietro, Jodi Arias, Lena Lunsford, etc.)
I want to know who, what, where, when, how, and why. Christina and Ethan deserve the truth.
Why was Hannah released from LE custody without the who, what when etc. questions answered?
I have the same questions as Foolsfeedonfolly. I also feel there are too many gaps and inconsistencies in Hannah's account of what happened. Hannah does seem to be making it up as she goes along.
As for the quote from LE, (“Hannah is a minor, and we have to bear in mind that anything we say, anything we do, anything we write is going to stay with her the rest of her life,” Jan Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, told NBC San Diego.), Jan Caldwell isn't saying Hannah had nothing to do with it, rather she seems to be implying till they have actual evidence, they aren't saying anything.

I’d also like to know how she knows it was ambien? She claims he told her it was a pain reliever so how and when did she learn it was ambien? if they didn’t find her until days later then the drug would have left her system I would imagine. Another part that bothers me is she says she twisted her knee..”hiking” up a hill. Personally I feel if you feel you are under captivity of any sort.. it would leak into your language..instead of it being “on the road to Idaho” and “hiking up a hill”. She specifies Idaho as a destination..did she know Idaho was the planned destination? If you were being held captive and someone was driving you some place you probably wouldn’t know where you were going to end up at all.. would you describe it as being on the road to that place? And if you were forced to hide in the woods would you describe it as hiking? Sorry but that just bothers me. I’m not here saying Hannah was a murderer because I don’t see the language as such.. I see deception to what the anticipated “kidnapping” story is. Maybe it's something more like she thought she was “on the run” with him and maybe felt like she was doing something wrong but had no idea everyone would think it’s a kidnapping. Maybe he carried guns in his car- as in concealed weapons, so she has no problem saying he had guns and weapons. With all these statements about zipties, ambien, handcuffs I would assume there will be recoverable evidence to show some truth.
also i personally was held captive in an abusive relationship..many times. one night i was so scared that i tricked him into thinking i was going to the bathroom and bolted out the back door to the police station. my point being...there had to been some moment in the 6 days she was with him...where he had to have fallen asleep and she could leave.
And why tell your victim where you are heading in case she would make contact with someone or get away.
If she were bond at night while he slept, she should have had marks around her wrist and ankles when rescued.
On other blogs, its been mentioned by more than one person that she was captured on video at a convenience store buying food while her alleged captor was filling the gas tank outside. She was inside for some time doing her shopping and did not ask anyone for help or pass a note to request help. I'm not sure if this is true though. It has not been widely reported by the media, but there are some who seem to know something about this. One person mentioned the store was a Seven Eleven. Another person on a different blog mentioned only that it was a convenience store.
I am skeptical about Hannah's story. However, perhaps there is a logical explanation. Hannah has certainly raised more questions with all her post-rescue posts. However, some of her social media posts were captured by a website called Newsball. This is a very opinionated website; the only benefit is that they captured some hate posts that were written to Hannah from her Ask fm account within the month prior to her kidnapping. There is a link near the top of the web page about a "$10,000 reward to help find James Dimmagio + the other side to Hannah Anderson". If you click on that link, you will find many hate-type questions that all sound like they were written by the same person over a period of 11 days to about a month prior to her kidnapping. That person posted anonymously, but seemed to possess knowledge of her friendships, friends, familial relationships, etc. The anonymous person comes off as having zero emotional intelligence. I'm going to stick my neck out and say that I think the person posting anonymously was James Dimaggio himself. If you scroll down, the last question is probably the most telling. The anon poster says, "Ur really ugly can U just die already." It's the word "already" that bothers me, as it can mean "sooner" or "earlier" that the anticipated time. If JD was the anonymous poster, the posted questions are clues to his motive. Perhaps JD sexually abused Hannah for many years when she was younger. He controlled her, even using abusive language to put her down and destroy her self esteem. He gave her gifts and bought her attention to try to keep her and maintain control over her. Then the time came when Hannah began to grow up, think for herself and to pull away from him caring more for her friendships and her peer relationships. But he wasn't ready to let her go. He wanted her to miss him and want him and remember her first kiss with him, and he couldn't bear the thought of her having sex with other guys, especially black guys. So, he planned to kill her. If he could not have her, then no one else was going to have her. He may have planned on killing himself too along with his favorite cat. Why he ended up killing Hannah's mother and brother, we may never understand. So given that law enforcement is adamant that she had nothing to do with the death of her mother and brother, I think we need to wait for the truth to come out after they complete their investigation.
Police could help her, if they back up their information that she is a victim "in every sense of the word".
If they answer: What was his motive? Why did the mother and the little boy have to die?

This appears to explain the caution behind the lack of information about the phone messages DiMaggio and Hannah exchanged the day they left or about the content of letters she had sent that were found in his home.
Seems the media is leaking marbles as well. The article says "the day they left" rather than the day she as kidnapped.
Jo, there's been lots of confusion about the phone messages or texts. The search warrant indicates the cell phones were both turned off at around 4 p.m. on 8/4/13 (Sunday, the day of the fire). The search warrants indicated that Hannah was picked up from cheerleading practice around that time on 8/4/13. We now know that is incorrect. The ONLY correction that law enforcement has ever publicly made is that Hannah was picked up from cheerleading practice on Saturday and not on Sunday. I would think that law enforcement professionals can accurately read a date on a cell phone record. Therefore, I'm going to assume that they did indeed read the correct date and that the cell phones were both turned off at around 4 p.m. on Sunday, the day of the fire and the day after Hannah was kidnapped. It sounds like there were calls on the cell phone record from JD's sister on 8/4/13, as well, but she claimed she made all those calls, because she was worried about her brother, given there was a fire in his home. I'm not sure if he exchanged calls with her. The question I have is who turned off the phones? Did the fire itself cause the phones to "turn off"? Were the cell phones used as the timing devices to start the fires? I know that when a cell phone is turned off, calls go straight to voice mail, etc. but there is still a record of incoming phone calls. I would think that JD wouldn't be so stupid as to take phones with him on the road, as they likely would have pinged cell towers along the way revealing his route until 4 p.m. Sunday.
If hannah had a sexual relationship with DiMaggio, regardless of whether she was the instigator, she's still (legally) considered a victim. If those letters LE found are love letters, why would they make them public? It's not like DiMaggio is gonna be charged, he's dead. Which tells me there's no written evidence (thus far) to suggest she had anything to do with the murders.
her shitty storytelling and the holes in her story could be her covering for something else (sex) and the LE isn't wanting to call BS on her because they obviously believe she's a victim in that sense.
I don't thinks he cared for her mother, her brother, Dimaggio, or even the damn dog. It's obvious that she's not mourning for any of them. Who can smile after finding out your mother and brother were tortured and burned alive? (speaking of, with the 20hr timer, were they drugged too or else why didn't they scream for help?). I'm not a weepy person at all, but I would be destroyed if I lost almost my entire family.
I believe Hannah was culpiable in the murder of her family. I do not believe that DiMaggio did it on his own. Yes, LE continue to say she is a victim, but LE does not always show their cards. Hannah has some seriously sketchy behavior and I am sure LE is thinking the same thing. Go read up on the Skylar Neese case and you will see there are evil teens out there. The teens in that case exhibit the same "attitude" as Hanna. And in both cases LE let the girls roam free and gave them enough rope.... I think it would be naïve to totally dismiss the sketchy Hannah as 100% innocent in any of this. Something is not right in this case and something is not right with Hannah.
