Missing: Angelica Hadsell

From News10:

Is Anjelica Hadsell in danger?

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Family and friends of Anjelica Hadsell have confirmed to 10 On Your Side the missing 18-year-old was on alert and scared of a certain person before her disappearance on March 2.
Hadsell communicated that information to her cousin and best friend between Feb. 13 and the day she vanished. Text messages sent by Hadsell to friends in late February about the person said, “I should probably stop texting him back,” and “HELP.”

“This person supposedly said that he wanted to hang out, and she said she didn’t think it was a good idea,” said Chelsey Zirkle, who had multiple conversations with Hadsell both by phone and in person. “She was more worried that this person would maybe do something, and this person is the person we kind of suspect did something.”

Zirkle said the in-person conversations she had with Hadsell about this person left her in tears.
The family and 10 On Your Side are not naming the person because police have not identified him as a suspect in the case.

“I’d say she’s screaming ‘help,'” Wesley Hadsell said. “She wants someone to find her. She wants us to come get her.”

The desperate search into the Norview High School graduate’s disappearance is now in its eleventh day. (update:  Day 15)

Family and friends of missing 18-year-old Anjelica Hadsell say a big piece of their heart is missing.

“My daughter is missing and it’s destroying the family, as far as our emotions,” Mr. Hadsell said.

More than 20 people were out searching for the teenager again Friday. Mr. Hadsell said her cell phone sent a signal from the area of Tidewater Drive near Thole Street in Norfolk.

She was scared of a situation, and we didn’t know about it,” Mr. Hadsell said. He told WAVY.com he believes he knows at least one person who is involved.
“She didn’t go on her own,” Mr. Hadsell said. “She’s not just sitting somewhere happy watching TV, watching this. What 18-year-old kid wouldn’t be on social media right now?”

Mr. Hadsell told 10 On Your Side police have recovered pieces of his daughter’s debit card and her jacket, which a neighbor said he saw Anjelica wearing the day of her disappearance. The Norfolk Police Department has not confirmed that information, but they did tell WAVY.com they are vetting all leads. Police say they have had detectives assigned to this case every day since it was reported.
Hadsell’s family is remaining strong and they are very hopeful AJ will return home soon.

We are going to keep fighting to find her, and if she’s watching this, she better keep fighting, too,” Zirkle said. “It’s not over yet. It’s not going to be over until she’s home.”

Hadsell was last seen March 2 around 2 p.m. driving down Millard Street toward her home. Mr. Hadsell said his daughter was seen driving “with purpose,” and a white car followed behind her less than one minute after her. Mr. Hadsell said a white car was reported in the family’s driveway at the same time.

The family is offering a $3,000 reward for anyone who brings forward information about the whereabouts of Hadsell.

Thank you so much for posting about this!

Here is the stepfather's comment on the gofundme site from a week after she went missing:

Hey guys, I'm the father. Understand that my daughter is missing and this isn't like her. While I remain positive in support of all her hard work and accomplishments it has never entered my mind that this is her playing a "joke" or a "game" or anything other than what she deserves. My daughter helped people and gave 100 percent in everything life offered. Athlete, scholar , friend, daughter, girlfriend. So why give money to my cause and my families? Well if you want to I thank you. Your money will be used to help feed supporters, searchers, gas for cars to move around and look, pass out flyers. Also I plan to use the donations to assist in any way to help find our kid. You have any issue with that please donate somewhere else. I want to find my daughter and so does anyone that helps. Anyone that knows our family knows all that we do within our community and life. Please respect us and leave negatives on face book or social media.

Man Charged In McStay Family’s Deaths Wants To See More Evidence

Monday, March 16, 2015

A man charged with killing a Fallbrook family whose bodies were found buried in the desert is asking the prosecution to turn over more evidence.

Charles "Chase" Merritt is representing himself in court.

U-T San Diego reported Merritt told a judge Monday that he has seen about a third of the evidence that could be used against him.

Prosecutors said Merritt should have all of the evidence — some 9,000 pages worth — by the end of the week.

The 57-year-old Merritt has pleaded not guilty to murder.

Forty-year-old Joseph McStay, his 43-year-old wife Summer and their sons, 4-year-old Gianni and 3-year-old Joseph Jr., disappeared from their Fallbrook home in 2010.

Merritt was a business associate of Joseph McStay.

From the information provided, it appears this young woman had a stalker or an obsessive boyfriend. I do hope it's not one of those "if I can't have you no one can" type of situations. It reminds me of the Holly Bobo case.

Snipped: "My daughter helped people and gave 100 percent in everything life offered."

Why past tense?

And what does "...anything other than what she deserves" mean?

Interesting.

He refers to himself as THE father and not the expected her father or AJ's father.
Is this indicative of a poor relationship between them?

He refers to her in the past tense twice, which is always a red flag especially after so few days missing.
She HELPED and GAVE
Will she no longer be able to help people or give 100%?

He never refers to her by name, instead he refers to her as my daughter or our kid.

There seems to be sensitivity regarding her work and accomplishments in that he feels the need to tell us he remains positive

He introduces sensitivity by telling us it has never entered his mind it is her playing a joke or game, yet clearly it has since he introduces in in the process of free editing.
Never doesn't mean did not.

or anything other than what she deserves.
This concerns me.
Why would she deserve to be missing?
Does this speak of a motive perhaps?
She did something and she disappeared is it something she deserved?

Athlete, scholar , friend, daughter, girlfriend.
Order is important.
Coming from her father i would expect daughter first as his priority followed perhaps by sister and so on, instead we have two scholarly achievements first followed by friend, then daughter and finally girlfriend.
This again is unexpected and speaks perhaps to a poor relationship with AJ.

Is he her bio dad or a step dad since he refers to my families

He lists what the funds will be used for Your money will be used to help feed supporters, searchers, gas for cars to move around and look, pass out flyers.

He then tells us Also I plan to use the donations to assist in any way to help find our kid.
Plans change
Why is this separate from feeding supporters and searchers etc when they are helping to look for his daughter?
Surely by feeding searchers, providing gas and flyers he is assisting in finding our kid?
Just because someone plans to do something, it doesn't mean they will carry said plan out.
Plans change depending on circumstances

Why does he refer to her as our kid?
To my ear this sounds strange it is a particularly english term used by those up north who refer to their children as our kid or our (insert said child's name)
He isn't consistent in how he refers to her, is our kid a nickname?
Is it distancing language ( often seen in step families or adoptive families)

Referring back to her hard work and accomplishments is jealousy an issue?

He then refers to our family at the end when previously he referred to my families?

This statement is making me go hmmmm

Could the odd verbiage be due to the fact that he is the Step-father, and well aware of that?

It doesn't explain his answer to Nancy Grace, unless his wife was on the phone also or right next to him?

Here is another link http://www.examiner.com/article/anjelica-hadsell-s-dad-reveals-new-shocking-details-about-disappearance
with another quote from the father
"I’m not going to beat around the bush, my daughter’s jacket that she was wearing when she saw me last, that someone recognized as she was driving as a dark navy blue color - something up top - obviously that’s the jacket, her longwood softball jacket with her name stenciled in it, now that was found in this guy’s possession hidden in his house," he said.

He takes no ownership of his family calling it “the family”.
Always listen to what one tells you in the
negative (Anjelica left with sinister help of someone.)
He answers questions with a questions.
He changes pronouns constantly.
He talks about Anjelica in past tense.
His information is purposefully vague. (The person)
He refers to her as his kid or daughter rather than her name.
Her mysterious disappearance is “Anything other than what she deserves” is a very disturbing freudian slip.

She was valedictorian of her class. Perhaps a former classmate? Someone her Jr. Pined over her after she went off to college and saw his chance to make his plea upon her return?

Too late! She already had a new beau, and had borrowed money for his Bday party. And, boy! What a party!

Was he at that party? Perhaps uninvited? Offered some service to the family to be in the area upon her return?

What do the rest of the texts regard?

So far, the text posted isn't frightening at all. And, there's only one. Just spelling HELP! to a friend means little. It isn't desparation in my mind especially if she kept texting him back and forth.

Stepfather mentions athlete first.

My guess is the suspect often frequented female sporting events and latched onto AJ. Also attended the same school and lives in the area. He isn't nearly as smart, though perhaps more athletic. Perhaps he makes good money which is why the cards were cut up while trying to convince her he'd take care of her.

Finding her jacket in a/the home is very telling! Regardless of what the step-father says or doesn't say, it is odd to have a piece of clothing of a person who feels they are being persued by someone they aren't interested in and,...- then-... suddenly falls off the map.

Sus said...

This is a coach or possibly student teacher. That's why they're hesitant to give his name. Athlete and scholar (as in scholarship) is on step-father's mind.

Wesley (the dad) has an interesting history
Police: Husband Of Missing Ohio Woman Spotted In N.C.

POSTED: 11:28 am EDT August 31, 2005
UPDATED: 12:13 pm EDT August 31, 2005

SELMA, N.C. -- The husband of a missing Ohio woman was spotted in North
Carolina Tuesday evening, NBC-17's sister station NBC 4 in Columbus
reported.

According to police, a tip was received that Wesley Hadsell was seen at a
retirement home in Selma, N.C. They believe Hadsell was visiting his
grandmother at the home.

When police arrived, they believed Hadsell had already fled the scene, but
authorities continued to search the area.

Investigators believe Wesley Hadsell, 27, was involved in the disappearance
of his estranged wife, NBC 4 reported.

Hadsell's wife, Michelle, was last seen Friday afternoon leaving her
brother's house. She was living with her parents and was reported missing
after her father experienced a bizarre phone call.

Her father, Bob Tallman, said he called her Friday at about 1:30 p.m. to
make sure she made it home safely when the phone picked up and he heard his
daughter's voice -- as if she was struggling, NBC 4 reported.

Last week a Delaware County grand jury indicted Wesley Hadsell on felonious
assault, domestic violence and kidnapping charges.

Anyone with any information on Michelle or Wesley Hasdell should contact the
Delaware County Sheriff's Office.

Do not help this young woman because her step father was indicted on kidnapping charges more than a decade ago while going through a divorce.

It is far better she rot in the wilderness than to ever give a dime for her return. But, if you do donate at least $5, you can run the family's life until it no longer generates ad revenue on which you can feed your dysfunctional family and someday have one disapear too...hopefully.

Thanks to websleuths forum member for transcribing the Chelsea Hoffman phone interview with Wesley Hadsell:

CH: You’re on the air. Is that you, Wesley?

WH: Yes ma’am, it’s me. Sorry, I didn’t see you were ready.

CH: *weirdly laughing* It’s alright.

WH: *guffaws*

CH: Um, I’m going to let my listeners know that this is the father of missing woman Anjelica Hadsell. This is Wesley Hadsell. How are you doing tonight?

WH: Uh, as well as can be expected in the situation we’re in right now.

CH: I understand it's a very tough situation. You're going through a lot right now - not only with your missing daughter, um the details of the case that you’re having to deal with that you can't really release all of them I understand. And –

WH: Yes, yes.

CH: – On top of everything else that goes with being part of a case that gets attention in the media. It’s definitely not pleasant.

WH: No, no. There’s – it’s a double-edged sword and I do apologize if I’m not emotional to people’s standards but trust me, um, we have our moments. We’ve gained a little bit, uh, better control of ourselves, you know, when we’re around people; but I’m gonna tell ya, people that know us, our family, our close friends, they know – this destroys me, my wife. We have five children in all, you know, and uh our family is under attack from a faceless enemy right now because I guess I don’t believe my daughter walked away – drifted away like people have said in the media and Facebook posts. My daughter was responsible, she cared about us as a family, and, uh, she was, uh, an overall good girl. I know my daughter, so I will fight for her and I won’t stop until we do find her and bring her home, so…

CH: That leads me to my first question then, and that's very well said, and you can hear – I can hear the pain in your voice and if people don't believe that then I don't know what to tell them.

WH: Yeah, um, I can’t prove to people how I feel. You know? I was emotional so much in the beginning and I’ve learned to keep those feelings in check for my daughter, because.. IF she is watching, you know, we are her strength. And that’s the only thing I hold onto, is that when I talk to someone about her, she needs to feed off of our strength and if people don’t understand that mentality, that rationality… then God help them because I have my faith and I have my hope and no one’s gonna change who I am. That’s my character, that’s my person. It’s just, I’m here for Anjelica and there is no right or wrong way to deal with this in my eyes.

Lily said...

CH: Well said. Now, like I said earlier, there have been some conflicting reports regarding when she was last seen, who last saw her, and all of the circumstances. Do you care to clarify on any of this?

WH: Yes ma’am. I can clarify this very clearly. I don’t understand why it is so muddled with the media. My wife left at seven o’clock in the morning March 2nd. She leaves for work, she drops her siblings off at school and whatnot. That morning I had actually dropped off the red truck for her so she could drive: she’s home from spring break and I knew she would need it on Tuesday. I didn’t speak with her, I left the keys in the mailbox – just for the truck, the ignition key only, not the door key. I left and then I heard from Anjelica. She did give me a phone call, so people know, she called me on the phone and asked to borrow money. She doesn’t ask to borrow money. I want to clarify, yes, she does not ever ask to borrow money. She didn’t ask to borrow money but her exact words were “can I get some money?” Let me clarify that, if I can, the reason she asked me to borrow or um get some money (in her words). Today was her boyfriend’s birthday. We had a birthday party for him and let me just say it wasn’t a party, okay? It was not a celebration. It was what my daughter wants. *voice cracks* I overheard a conversation between my daughter and his mother the week prior and I heard them talking about a GoPro. Now, I do heating and air. I don’t know what a GoPro is. I had to google it and it took me a few hours to figure it out. But I figured it out and when she asked if she could get some money I understood what she was probably asking, so I gave her $200 because these things are a little over that.

CH: Uh uh

WH: It depends on which way you go with them. I gave her a hundred dollars the week prior and I figured she still had it because she’s very good with money. She just doesn’t spend money loosely... so bottom line is that’s why I gave her the money. I left work at 11:53am and I drove over to the gas station - the police know all of this – the public does not know, so I’m going to release this information so people can stop attacking my family and my character. I met her, I would say, around 12:10, 12:15. [That’s on] record with the police department. We talked, uh, we didn’t really talk about much- we aren’t a talking kind of family.

CH: Mhm

WH: We kind of just hung out and stared at each other, you know. I asked her how she was doing, we talked about a little school, um, we are a family of few words with a lot of love. She departed my presence at I would say about 12:40, 12:45pm. I was actually late getting back to my job and I got reamed from my boss. Fact: okay, you know I’m not beyond reproach with my work either but my daughter called me, that’s something she don’t do, I dedicated extra time outside of my lunch break because 12:45pm I’m supposed to be on the clock for lunch.

CH: I understand.

Lily said...

WH: I got back around 1:15, 1:20pm – fact. Boss reamed me. Okay? Now, this is something the media public does not know: About, I wanna say, and I can’t really speak a whole lot about this [unintelligible] fact, I know someone saw her after one o’clock departing, our neighbor she waved to. What happened was, it’s a kid, I can’t really speak a name because of the case, but the information is simple. The kid that we all know and love, we always wave to him, she saw him. I mean, they saw each other and then he brought to the police that at 2 o’clock he saw her pass by again. His words are “driving with purpose” and “not herself.” Those are his words, not our words. He went to the police on his own accord and he struggled with it. He came out later than he should have because he didn’t know she was missing to begin, and we didn’t report her until the next day since we didn’t know what to do exactly. Now 2 o’clock is the last physical sighting of her driving the red drunk back towards the house. Now this info is also not in the public - well not truthfully in the public - a minute or minute and a half later he recognized a white small compact car following her. Did not know this. Bottom line is my neighbor reported at 2:03 [unintelligible] 2 o’clock– he smokes, he doesn’t smoke in the house, he smokes on the porch –

CH: Mmhm

WH: He said a little after 2 o’clock he saw behind my red truck that was parked in my driveway a small white 4 door compact car. I understand that there is a person in the media right now, and I will mention her by name CINDY B, my brother has a white car. Yeah yeah, he does. My neighbor knows my brother’s white car, you know? My brother works. My brother was at work the whole day. I wanna clear the conspiracy theories, the b.s. involved in this. We have a serious situation here and I would appreciate people’s, ummmm, I would appreciate people’s help as far as helping push the police. Helping with the investigation, not hindering the investigation, not sidetracking the investigation.

CH: Understood

WH: The neighbor did not see my daughter. No one has seen my daughter after 2 o’clock – she came to the house, whatever. No one saw anyone get in or out of this white car. He said it was there a little bit after 2, he said 2:03, he didn’t have the exact time but a few minutes after two is what he said on record. Understand this: Justice, my second oldest daughter, comes home from school. We know for a fact she was in the house at 2:25pm that day.

CH: Mmhm

Lily said...

WH: My 18yo daughter, Anjelica Hadsell, was not present at the home. The red truck was still there. Now understand this: that red truck was moved from the left side of the drive to the right side. I don’t know why. I can’t tell you why. I don’t have the fact. No one saw anything, but that is the fact of the last time that anyone saw her and the events that led up to us knowing that something wasn’t right, basically.

CH: Do you have any idea being in the area of anybody who drives a small compact white car?

WH: I did not at the time. I do now. We can speak on that on your other questions down the road if you’d like to, um, keep on track with the questions or not is up to you. I don’t really care how we do this because the facts are the facts. I have a wealth of facts, and I want to find my daughter

CH: Understood

WH: That’s my goal. That’s my bottom line goal and I can only release some facts out there. I can’t release names due to the nature of the investigation. God, I would love to release names.

CH: I bet you would. Um I was gonna ask you the media reports say that you found pieces of her debit card. Some say a friend found them and some say that you found them. Did you find them?

WH: All I can tell you about this is a person.. I can explain how it happened and what was described to me and the police. A person of interest found part of her credit card. Now, understand why I say a person of interest. Because the first person to find the pieces of evidence could be a person of guilt, it could be coincidence. I don’t really believe in a whole bunch of stuff, I believe in fact. The fact is that this person found half of her credit card – the bottom half, the part with her name on it. This was Thursday. Thursday afternoon the first week she was missing, I don’t know the dates I just know it was the first week that she was missing on Thursday. I got a call – I was at work out of town, not out of town, but an hour away. I wasn’t in my home residence, Norfolk home. But I was working and they called and said “so and so” found part of a credit card with her name. I didn’t ask questions at the time, rushed home whatever, the next day I organized a search party to search from my driveway up the road like you would be driving out of the neighborhood. That’s the only logical thing I can think do to. Now understand this, in that search party the searchers found three or four more pieces of the credit card after the evidence was found. I didn’t find anything. At all. It was searchers that found it I just happened to have the drive, the will to find out answers and we found more parts of the credit card. That doesn’t give us many answers, really, but it did hold a very crucial piece of an answer to me. And I did relay this concern to the police. The person that found the credit card... the piece he found, I could have pulled it out of my wallet and handed it to him, that’s how nice and pretty it was for lack of anything better to say. But, the pieces that we found were ran over, fractured, destroyed - been on the road. Now my brother was actually present [when the first half was found], and he took a picture of the gentleman – arms spread wide… tried to maintain as best we could, all the evidence we could give to police. Well, the next day we searched the same location. We used the picture that he took against the house and put someone about the same spot, took pictures, matched them up pretty well and let me tell you they searched three, four houses down on the same side, three four houses up on the same side. They found no more pieces that day... but the next day that’s when they found the additional three to four pieces of the credit card.

CH: Interesting. That’s very suspicious.

Lily said...

WH: Very, very suspicious. Raised a lot of questions, a lot of doubt, concern, mostly fear for my daughter. All of this is about my daughter. Where is she? What is she doing? This solidifies more and more every day that she is not on her own, that she did not walk away. The texts were not real from her (supposedly from her).

CH: Now, in some of the reports that have been covering this case regarding the cell phone – oh, I’m sorry – the credit card finds, a 7-11 store is reportedly nearby this area. Have the police thought about looking at surveillance footage? Or are there even cameras?

WH: Yes actually there is cameras and and it’s sad because the police showed me a video on their cell phone [I can’t be bothered to type this part out. Saw a video of a girl who looked like AJ but he says it wasn’t. He describes what the girl was wearing in extreme detail while CH feigns interested grunts.] That was the only piece of information that they showed us in this whole case.

CH: Oh, wow, well hopefully they have more than that and they are on the right track to finding her and getting to bottom of what happened.

WH:Yes ma’am, yes ma’am.

CH: I know like you said you can’t name names –

WH: No ma’am

CH: And you cant share too many specifics but can you think of anybody who would want to harm her?

WH: Yes ma’am yes ma’am. You know I read your questions and I don’t really have to write the answers down because its all in my mind, burned in my brain. You know, you asked me former boyfriends or enemies, if they investigated any possible POIs or suspects. Let me say it like this: there is an answer in that question. Former boyfriend, exboyfriend, whatever, current boyfriend, enemies... my daughter didn’t have enemies. But lets say she had someone, and I can’t put them into context, but say she had someone who liked her… loved her, obsessed about her… information I know out here backs all this stuff up. Without going into detail, I won’t put them into a category but yes it is a category. I will just say that the current boyfriend is a great guy – he’s helped the family a lot and that could be raised into question or not. I wholeheartedly believe and I’m honestly sure the police believe he had nothing to do with this. He helped every step of the way he has just been there for us and the family. The police have interrogated someone. I will give you this. The same person has been interrogated four times. Three times because, let’s say they interjected themselves into the case without their finding anything. You probably get what I mean - how someone could interject themselves into the case – bringing themselves to the front line of the case. Do you understand what I’m saying?

CH: Yep

WH: Okay, without saying it out loud, but yes someone has brought themselves to the forefront. They did interview them three times. And let’s just say someone happened to see something that maybe they didn’t want them to see... maybe a friend, you know, was hanging out with someone. There was a search warrant executed on this person and their house

CH: Oh

WH: and lets just say that my daughters jacket, because I’m not going to beat around the bush, my daughter’s jacket that she was wearing when she saw me last, that someone recognized as she was driving as a dark navy blue color - something up top - obviously that’s the jacket, her Longwood softball jacket with her name stenciled in it, now that was found in this guy’s possession hidden in his house

CH: Oh

Lily said...

WH: Now the police did verify that information, never showed us a picture. That was on Saturday the first week. Understand that the case moved this past Monday, you know, they brought some new detectives on board. The cream of the the crop.. “la crème la crème” [sic] was how it was put to me.. homicide detectives. I knew what they were saying. I said: just give me your card, I know you’re homicide cops. I get it. I do, I get it, ok? It’s been a week. I get it, you know, whatever – I have hoped, I have prayed... I get it. I’m getting angry now, but uh…

CH:I understand

WH: But lets just say I asked, they showed me a few pictures of stuff that was found I really couldn’t tell if it was my daughter’s stuff. It was just generic stuff that could be anybody’s. But they didn’t show me a picture of the jacket. I said: wait a minute, my wife told me you found my daughters jacket. Ok well, [the cops said] “we don’t know.” I said what do you mean you don’t know? It’s a Longwood softball jacket with her name stenciled into it. [the cops said] “We cant verify it’s hers because...” – I don’t know where he was going because I cut him off. I don’t have patience anymore. You mean to tell me this person of interest could have bought a Longwood softball jacket and had her name stenciled into it... because of what reason? He just calmed me down - “handled me” that’s what I call it. These facts you’re getting are facts the public don’t have yet. I’m tired of being attacked, I’m tired of publicly being attacked for my past because it has nothing to do with my future and my present. I wish people would respect our family, respect my daughter. You know, if you didn’t know us then you maybe missed out on something but my daughter was an awesome person. She helped people, she excelled, she inspired, she loved people. Her friends, I mean, I can’t sit here and tell you who she was but her friends and family can. So, yeah...

CH: And I-I-I-I agree. I’m not here to attack you for your past. Everybody has a past. In cases like these, this is probably your first time with a big huge deal like this, but the trolls come out full force. They’re always gonna be suspicious of everybody, no matter what. You could have a speeding violation and they’ll try to tie it in.

WH:Yes, it’s sad.

CH: Whats important is finding Anjelica. Do you think the cops are doing a good job? Do you think they could be doing better?

WH: I don’t have any experience with this, really, never had a problem with them doing their job before. You know its wham, bam, done. This case is sensitive, I get that, and I am honest to God trying to find the faith and the courage to give them that time. I could blow this case wide open. I could put the names out there, I could do so much damage to the case – that’s what I consider damage because my daughter, I have to hold my anger and not give in to these trolls because my daughter is the common goal. If I damage the case, how does that help my daughter? If people want to judge me, I’m sorry but I do honestly feel the police are doing their job the best they can because she is a missing person. There is no evidence of foul play. They have now publicly said they are not ruling out foul play. To me, that’s a small victory for my daughter because before they said there was no evidence of foul play. So, just those words. If people would listen to the media, just those words are hope that we’re moving in a direction. They may not offer that hope to most but to me they speak volumes for my daughter. I do believe they’re doing their jobs.

… chatter 2boring2type ...

Lily said...

CH: Is there anything you want to say to anyone listening right now before we end our call?

WH: No ma’am not really. The words I have to say is if my daughter’s listening she knows how we feel, she knows I have her back. The family’s not going to leave her, we aren’t going to forget her. We’re gonna be there for her and I do wanna say that if you had anything to do with this, anyone, if you can hear these words: you will be brought to justice whether legitimately or not. But if you had anything to do with hurting my daughter the media won't be able to handle the repercussions of this. That’s all I can say because they stole a piece of my heart, a piece of my family, and uh yeah justice will be served. AJ will be brought home.

Alarming…

**********************************************************************

Then this statement below bothers me

**********************************************************************

WH: We kind of just hung out and stared at each other, you know

**********************************************************************

Who says that? I can sit in a room with my son and not be speaking. But I would say we sat quietly. Not that we “stared at each other”. That is just really weird. That statement concerns me. It may have meaning that we don’t understand yet. Like maybe he killed her accidently and then sat and stared at her. Not sure. Just flagged in my mind.

Also, don’t like the way he talks about her asking for money. Shes still a student…That would be normal in my mind for them to ask for money. My step son asks us for money, but it would be the last thing that I would talk about if he was missing. Outside him explaining a phone call, he goes on and on about the money. I wonder if there was a fight about it…

WH: She doesn’t ask to borrow money.

1. She's not his daughter. 2. If this is the same guy, he has a scary, dark past. He was previously accused of kidnapping & raping his wife in 2005,and I believe there were other charges as well.
Google this tidbit:

"Investigators believe Wesley Hadsell, 27, was involved in the disappearance of his estranged wife, Michelle Hadsell, NBC 4 reported."

I am still REALLY bothered by the step dads comment “We kind of just hung out and stared at each other, you know”

I was thinking about how when I first dated my husband, we would do that. Hang out and would sometimes just stare at each other. It was the beginning of our relationship. We were falling in love. That would be expected.

But…since I do have a step child myself (he is 18 so close in age to the step daughter) I tried to imagine saying that about him. Would there be an appropriate situation under normal circumstances (step dad is saying there is nothing wrong at that time they were just hanging out at the house).

The answer is NO. NEVER. To me sitting at staring at someone just takes me back to falling in love with my husband.

So I am trying to think how it would ever be appropriate outside of a relationship, and the only thing I could think was if you were in a traumatic situation together. To stare at each other because you are both in the situation, both scared, both not sure what to do. I could see then it would be comforting…. But outside that, to just be hanging out.

No. Never.

So now I am wondering, were they staring at each other during a traumatic situation? He was killing her? Was she dying?

Otherwise I don’t see how that is a normal statement.

Anyone else think that was an odd statement?

It is really bothering me and I think there is something major to that.

trustmeigetit said...

Do we know for sure that step dad is the same Wesley Hasdell that was suspected in his ex wife's disapearance?

I can't find any news on the prior case past they saying that he was indicted and they were looking for him.

Can't find photos or anything else about the case from that point on.

Sure does make him look very guilty if it's the same man.

My daughter was responsible, she cared about us as a family, and, uh, she was, uh, an overall good girl. I know my daughter, so I will fight for her and I won’t stop until we do find her and bring her home, so

Then it gets worse
She departed my presence at I would say about 12:40,
Why does he use the word departed?
Previously he has used words like leaves and left in relation to his wife and himself, yet we have a change in language in relation to his daughter and the meeting. is the change in language warranted by a change in reality.

Departed is often a term used in realtion to the dead, they are referred to as the departed, or they departed this life.
He doesn't say she left him, or the scene, she departed his presence.
His language hereis so out of whack, so unexpected, it has more red flags than a chinese parade.

This sounds almost as if this was the moment she was killed.

he then tells us he was late back to work and got reamed by his boss.
Is this because he was doing something that caused him to be late?

but my daughter wasb> an awesome person. She helped people, she excelled, she inspired, she loved people. Her friends, I mean, I can’t sit here and tell you who she was but her friends and family can. So, yeah...

Oh dear, so many past tense references.

It is also worth noting he gives a motive for the person who 'took'her
but say she had someone who liked her… loved her, obsessed about her… information I know out here backs all this stuff up.

Is he talking about some other male or is he talking about himself?
She is his stepdaughter i believe

Police need to polygraph him soonest

Jen Ow said...

He appears to acknowledge that he is toward the end of his Chelsea Hoffman interview, when he speaks of his 'past', and asserts that it has nothing to do with his future, or step-daughter's disappearance.

I was ready to dismiss his past tense references, (they are dealing with homicide investigators at this point) and his we/our statements, (as he is the stepfather) but hearing that he may have been involved in a previous disappearance is a show stopper. (What are the odds, right?)

Also, his description of being the last person in her presence when he delivered the money, his focus on the money, and how he stared at her/the didn't speak, and how he was 'reamed' after returning late for work, (why exactly would you sit in silence/staring to the point where you were late getting back to work??) etc...is all really troubling, and makes no sense.

I'd like to listen/transcribe that portion of the interview for myself. He is describing the last time he saw her, and possibly the last time she was seen, period. The neighborhood boy sighting seems weak at best, and his focus on it, and why it happened, (he doesn't smoke in the house) and it's exact timing, etc., suggests persuasion, as well as his need to repeatedly state 'FACT'.

Facts stand for themselves. They don't need to be over explained, justified, and convinced of their merits. Of course, the accusations he is facing will have an impact on his language, but I see lots of red flags in areas other than defending his innocence, as well as plenty of illogical/suspicious circumstances.

(Like the fact that HE organized, and determine the area to be searched, in which the additional pieces of her debit card were found, AND he states that the pieces were not there when the area was searched the previous day! He believes this is suspicious, and I completely agree...he clearly knew exactly where to look!? Also it's strange that her debit card is the item of evidence that was found. Is there a connection to the money issue? She had a drivers license, and presumably a college ID, etc...why would her debit card be destroyed and discarded feet from her home. It would seem that a thief of kidnapper would want to keep her debit card, and finding it close to her home suggests 'planted' evidence, more than anything else!

Jen Ow said...

Agreed!

"Departed my presence" = the moment she died.

I can't think of a situation where I would use that phrase, unless I was talking about the moment someone died.

To me, it only sounds proper in an obituary...as in, 'departed this earthly life', or, 'departed this world', etc.

Could he possibly be entering into the language of L.E.? They sometimes use this formal term in report writing.

OT CBS news reporting this :

"Investigators have reportedly looked at Durst in the disappearances of two teenage girls in Northern California in 1997.

In June of that year, 18-year-old Kristen Modafferi disappeared after leaving her job in San Francisco. Investigators placed Durst in the Bay Area around that time.

Five months later, 16-year-old Karen Marie Mitchell vanished after leaving her aunt's store in Eureka, California. Durst allegedly visited that store multiple times while dressed in drag. A police sketch of a suspect appears similar to Durst.

Author Matt Birkbeck, who has reported extensively on Durst, insisted there's a connection.

"Before these cases even came up before the public, he had been living this random bizarre lifestyle," Birkbeck said. "Durst had visited with or seen Mitchell at a homeless shelter that she had volunteered at."

California law enforcement has not yet responded to "CBS This Morning's" request for comment on the two missing girls.

Durst could face the death penalty in California if convicted for the murder of Berman."

I am Emil Bouchard,I want to say thanks to Dr Agumagu for everything he did in my life. To everyone who doesn't believe in spell, I was one like you at first. I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to do this since I've tried others so-called spells casters and they did not work and was a waste of my time and money. However, when I read so many testimonials of Dr Agumagu how he help people to get back their ex lover. Dr Agumagu answered all my questions and was very nice about everything, I decided to give it a try. I figured it would be my last try to get my ex girlfriend back. So my story is that I was at my office when the girl I suppose to marry told me that she wasn't in love with me and never will it be and that she didn't want to speak or see me again, especially since she was talking to this other guy. i email Dr Agumagu and tell him everything.he let me know which spells would be most appropriate for me and I chose the one that was to get her back to me and stay with me and to marry me.As soon as he finish the spells, my girlfriend came back into my life! It was a miracle to me and I’m so thankful to him, that is why i am sharing this testimony to those who need his help. Things have been going well, and pretty much according to what Dr Agumagu said would happen. I’m very happy for the love spell Dr Agumagu have done for me, my ex girlfriend is now back to me and we are living so happy. if you asked me or my friends if I would have anticipated how things were right now…no one would believe it! contact him is email address (agumaguspelltemple@gmail.com or agumaguspelltemple@outlook.com tell +2348158847627) and here is my private email bouchardemil@gmail.com. BRING AJ HOME

Wesley and Michelle were found together in Illinois in 2005. She went back to Ohio. He may have served prison time for assault and DV on her. That was the original charges before they separated and divorced.

I could be way off, but his past tense seems to be because the police are using homicide detectives and leaning that way.

I feel he is barely containing himself suspecting who has AJ, and on the slim chance she is alive, not going for vigilante justice. Again, I could be way off, but this is exactly how I expect a father to act. It would be difficult to wait politely for police to bring back my daughter. I'd be at that suspect's home strangling him for answers. Don't any of you have children??

If someone uses poor language skills (due to lack of education) are we predisposed to reading deception in to their words? I noticed while reading and analyzing this interview, that it took me much longer due to such a poor use of the English language. I had to sift through such poor sentence structure and organization of thought processes to look for deception. I eventually realized that I was reading with a bias that predisposed my thinking toward deception because of the poor language. Any thoughts on this?

Why would anyone ever say that someone helped everyone and gave 100 percent in everything life had to offer if the person isn't dead. Definite past tense references but to mention her life like that really makes me think she is dead. The money is really something with him and his statement about they just sat there and stared at each other makes me question their relationship. He mentions other guys especially one that may be older being obsessed with her and I wonder if he was as well. Way too many red flags unless blood was found. It's interesting that money is something he keeps talking about and the only thing they have found is her credit card broken into pieces and some of them in perfect condition. If that's truly him suspected in his wife's disappearance I don't have much faith this girl is alive. Makes you wonder if he knew she left her jacket somewhere and he threw it out to raise suspicions elsewhere.

Also he feels the need to explain why he isn't emotional and details being burned into his brain. did he burn her body somewhere? i hope they ran tests on the red trucks since he doesnt know why it was moved.

Jen Ow said...

Hi Sus,

If his wife that disappeared was found, then I guess I'm back to thinking like you. He is talking to homicide detectives after all, and a step parent which probably makes for a different dynamic, and different language than bio parents.

I still find the search he organized strange, and that he says he interrupted the officer who was sharing the info about the school jacket. (Why would he interrupt to rant, when the officer has the info he wants/needs, and why didn't he get the info after calming down?)

I don't know what to think. Sure I would never be able to sit around and wait for the police to find my child, but then again I would expect him to express frustration with the police, and their lack of progress, and he said they are doing a good job. His description of last seeing her is really strange, and illogical considering he states they didn't even talk, yet he was late getting back to work from meeting her.

What a strange case, and a strange guy.

Sus said...

Jen,
I'm more up in the air than I sound. I am not too concerned with the past tense. I have learned my lesson on that one. The police and family have details we don't. And he makes it clear how concerned he is to be dealing with homicide detectives.

I do , however, notice that he sure wants to over explain meeting AJ at his lunch, the "loved" neighbor kid seeing the red truck after their meeting, and how the white car that happens to look just like his brother's car can't be his brothers. That all bothers me.

Switching back, I'm hearing more and more about athletics. It was the first word Wesley used to describe AJ. Now I find she played softball and worked at a local field as an umpire and in the concession stand. And then there's the coat. I don't know how, but is an older coach in this? Was her stepfather or any neighbors her coach?

You all are most welcome for the transcript, but I can't take credit at all! Someone else transcribed it and I am just posting. I have really enjoyed reading all the comments.

Some additional transcription of the interview (the transcriber went back and added some additional parts that she had left out previously):

CH: Have the police thought about looking at surveillance footage? Or are there even cameras?

WH: Yes actually there is cameras and uh it’s actually, honestly sad because the police showed me a video on their cell phone and there was a girl and it looked like she was walking from across the street into the 7-11. But, when that girl entered the 7-11… Now, she may have been of Asian descent. My daughter is Asian and Caucasian. Now - I understand that - I really couldn’t tell the descent of the person, but she did look Asian. But, I do know my daughter’s hair. It was almost down, 3/4ths of the way of her back, and that wasn’t my daughter. My daughter normally wore her hair pulled up, whatever. That day in particular she had it pulled up --

CH: Mhmm

WH: -- into, like, a bun. Now it wasn’t… she had a headband on, but what was holding her hair in that little bun was, uh, what you call a “pre-wrap.” You know, she plays sports, and a pre-wrap is the stuff you put down underneath like an Ace bandage - it’s like the foamy stuff. Well, her personal style was to use that pre-wrap, um, because you know scrunchies I guess, whatever, people lose them so easily. So, she used that to make her own scrunchie or hair-tie. So, that’s what she had in her hair and it was pulled up, like, into a bun in the back so, um… She didn’t wear her hair down a lot but when she did, you know, it definitely wasn’t that length. Uh, it wasn’t my daughter. I mean, they did - I do believe they cleared that, of that, because they asked us. That was one of, one of.. that was the only piece of information that they showed us during this whole case… is that video.

CH: Oh, wow, well hopefully they have more than that and they are on the right track to finding her and getting to bottom of what happened.

WH:Yes ma’am, yes ma’am.

Jen Ow said...

Hi Sus,

I'm in the same boat as you. I can dismiss some of his language (like the past tense/we/our) because of the circumstances. I'm most troubled by his description of meeting her with the money, being late back to work, the 'loved' neighbor boy seeing her, and his organization of the search which turned up more pieces of her debit card. His language in all of those parts is persuasive, and as you said, he over explains while still managing to relay zero information.

For example, he goes on and on about how he decided how much money to give her, how much he gave her before, how she was good with spending, etc, etc....but then tells us ZERO words that she spoke to him when he met her. He even relays questions that he claims to have asked her, but no answers from her to those questions. Then he goes so far as to say they just sat in silence, staring at each other, and they aren't a family that talks.

SAY WHAT?!

This conversation would be the last words she spoke to him before going missing, but he glosses over it after rambling on about how he overheard her talking about a GoPro, didn't know what a GoPro was because he works in heating and cooling, researched the GoPro for hours to find out what it was, and then gave her money to correspond with a certain model, etc. What is more important to the public/LE, the history of him researching the gift she planned to give her boyfriend and it's cost, (kind of strange for him to do in the first place) or the last words she said to him before she disappeared?!

I haven't heard anything about a coach, but I guess that could be a possibility. That may explain the caution from LE to release any information, until they have solid evidence.

Jen Ow said...

Hi Lily, thanks again for posting these!

Here is another example of him rambling on and on, yet saying nothing. After all he said about her Asian decent, the length of her hair, how she usually wears it, how she was wearing it earlier that day, her personal style of wearing pre-wrap because some people lose scrunchies, etc...he finally says he THINKS it wasn't her based on the length of her hair, and the fact that "she didn't wear it down a lot".

He tries to imply that the police agree, or have cleared the person in the video, saying:

"I mean, they did - I do believe they cleared that, of that, because they asked us."

-He starts out saying, "They did", then changes to "I do believe".

-He weakens his assertion with 'believe', and repeats/stutters, 'that, of that', showing distancing from the topic.

-He give his reasoning for believing LE has cleared the video, saying "because they asked us".

(As if LE asking them about the video is the end of the line for the investigation about who appears on the tape.)

Hair length/style is not a permanent characteristic like the other things which DID match up to the girl on the surveillance tape. Also, since she has been at school, and she doesn't often wear her hair down, (according to him) what gives him the confidence to gauge the exact length of her hair, and to toss aside a promising lead, based on his estimation of her hair length?

Some additional info:

Wesley was convicted and sentenced to 10 years but was released early. He married AJ's mother in 2010 and according to AJ's previous stepfather, Wesley legally adopted AJ.

Wesley and AJ's mother are currently living apart but I don't know for how long.

Sus said...

Thanks for the info on living apart. That clarifies a lot. It explains why he dropped off the red truck in the drive and left the key in the mailbox rather than giving it to her in the house. It explains why she called him to ask for money. It explains why he wasn't sure of times.

Is it possible that AJ's mother discouraged contact between AJ and Wesley? That is why Wesley is defensive about meeting her? Just throwing it out there. According to the former step father, that's exactly what the mother did to him. He raised AJ from 1 1/2 to 13, then cut off all contact between them. There's some real sick games between Wesley, the former step-father, and the mother, with AJ as the pawn. I'm can't figure out who is the most sick, though.

THANKS TO DR BENEDICT FOR SOLVING MY PROBLEMS

An amazing testimony on a spell caster who brought my wife back to me.. My name is Andy Sowers,i live in Australia, and I'm happily married to a lovely and caring wife, with two kids.A very big problem occurred in my family seven months ago, between me and my wife.so terrible that she took the case to court for a divorce.she said that she never wanted to stay with me again, and that she didn't love me anymore. So she packed out of my house and made me and my children passed through severe pain. I tried all my possible means to get her back, after much begging, but all to no avail.and she confirmed it that she has made her decision, and she never wanted to see me again. So on one evening,as i was coming back from work,i met an old friend of mine who asked of my wife.So i explained every thing to her,so she told me that the only way i can get my wife back,is to visit a spell caster, because it has really worked for her too.So i never believed in spell, but i had no other choice, than to follow her advice. Then she gave me the email address of the spell caster whom she visited.{benedictsolutioncentre@gmail.com}. So the next morning,i sent a mail to the address she gave to me,and the spell caster assured me that i will get my wife back the next day. What an amazing statement!!
