Another Fake Hate

State police say a 20-year woman suffering from extensive burns apparently made up a story about being set on fire by three men wearing white hoodies who wrote the initials KKK and a racial slur on her car. Instead, authorities said Tuesday she burned herself and then fabricated the story about being attacked.
On Sunday at 8 p.m. Sharmeka Moffitt called 911 from a walking trail in Winnsboro and told authorities she had been doused in flammable liquid by three men wearing hoodies. She suffered extensive burns on more than half her body and was taken to LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport for treatment.
After two days of investigating the case, authorities on Tuesday said the evidence showed she apparently set herself on fire.

"Mental illness is a devastrating disease."

Another devastating issue is so much hatred for people who are not "like" themselves, that they will commit a crime against themselves and try to blame those they hate.

I truly think when these things happen, and obviously they are happening more often, the person who makes the false-hatred claim should face hate crime charges, themselves.

OT- Peter could you check this out?

"Well, the fact of the matter is she has been cooperating," Stavley, Spicher's lawyer, said in 2010. "She met with detectives in the case for three-and-a-half hours, and has had several follow-up conversations with detectives. She's cooperated fully. And frankly, the suggestion that she has urged others not to cooperate is absolutely false."

--Question. What would be more of a reliable statement, "that she has urged others not to cooperate is absolutely false", or "that she has urged others not to cooperate is absolutely not true". Would they both be weakened statements because of "absolutely"? If absolutely was not part of his statement, which would be more reliable?

I didn't view the video, but, from what I read that the uncle said:
``Bring the girl back to the parents,'' said Ram Venna, 36, the girl's uncle, who had flown in from his home in San Jose, Calif.

"We are pleading for everyone's help in finding my 10-month-old niece. Please call the police if you have any information that can help locate Saanvi. All of the family is grieving my mother's tragic death and praying for the safe return of my niece Saanvi," said Rem Venna.

--I am not certain why he said to bring "the girl" back to "the parents". I suspect he is speaking to the kidnapper/s and refers to his niece as "the girl" (the use of the indicates that he is familiar with her as well as "the" parents). I am not certain if this is distancing language.

He did say appropriately. Since we are to check for what is expected,"All of the family is grieving my mother's tragic death and praying for the safe return of my niece Saanvi" - He distinguished that they are grieving for his mother (not also his niece) and praying for his neice's safe return. -- Interesting that he said this since Lisa Irwin's mother had stated that they were grieving for their daughter. -- which is unexpected.

As for any other statements, I would have to listen to the video.

I read this online before it was known that it was a "fake hate"... And as soon as I saw that the woman talked about 3 men, the Statement Analysis light-bulb lit up above my head! 3... the liar's number!

I clearly remember a time when I lied when asked a specific question (not crime related- it was an everyday question) and I said "Three", without thinking it! It was the first number that I could think of!

Frannie said...

Was it mental illness or perhaps an attempt to get sympathy money gone awry? In any event, when I read the article prior to the hoax being discovered, I got to the "three men" part and, well,...lets say Peter's training paid off.

Anonymous said...

You all do know mental illness exist, do you not? I say, innocense until proven guilty. The police suspect she did it to herself. She has not been convicted of a crime. I know it was difficult for certain individuals to comprehend when the 'three' white men in Texas tied a black man to the fender of their truck and drove off dragging him to death. How quickly you people forget when whites committ crimes against blacks. It happens more often than you think. Another example is the killing of 'three' black people in Tuls,Ok by a group of white thugs. I,m not saying she is not guilty, however, I refuse to condemn her until 'ALL' the facts are given. Peter's training did not pay off. Three people 'carjacked' and robbed two women last night in my state. Are they liars too? Three people was in the house when Ayla Reynolds was 'taken' in your fine state of Maine. Are they being charged and condemned. I think not. You actually have people supporting this bunch of white thugs. Wow... you people are freaking unbelieveable and vile. j/s

Or crazy as a bat.

I feel sympathy for someone who is so confused and filled with self-loathing that they would burn themselves, but what if the fake description of "3 men" leads to innocent men being arrested and possibly convicted of a crime they did not commit? That would be a despicable thing to do to another human being.

Thanks Anon for the laugh.

I too as soon as i read the article knew it to be deceptive.
The number 3 got my attention immediately and when accompanied by weraing white hats/hoodies caused the lightbulb of deception to spring into light.

I thought it was the prefect crime in the perfect spot at the perfect time, too many coinicidences.

She couldn't identify them, even their race.

She happened to be handily next to a spigot to douse the flames.

People on fire either drop and rollas taught or panic and run fanning the flames, they aren't thinking ooh lookie i am right next to a spigot, how convenient.
If this was an attack she would have been panicking,

They missed her face and hair when dousing the liquid, this would be the obvious target, to scar and send a message to others and the victim.

No cctv cameras.

No witnesses.
People would have noticed 3 men in white hoodies/hats.

They daubed her car in toothpaste (easily washed off rather than the expected paint or paint remover whichs cost bux to repair.( does her grill have a shiny smile and minty fresh exhaust?)

How did they know whaich was her car unless they saw her leave it and followed her.

I wondered also if the blames burned faster and hotter than she expected hence the 3rd degree burns and v burns to 60% of her body

I asked myself is she was another charlie rogers. an activist ( since it was mentioned about an obama shirt) either political or for race, especially so close to the election.
Was this aimed at getting sympathy votes, to cause fear in the neighborhood, to get money?
It was done for a reason.

I wonder if she thinks the lifetime scars were worth it.

Westminster police have arrested a 17 year old boy for investigation of the kidnapping and murder of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway.

Austin Reed Sigg was arrested late Tuesday night after police received a tip that led them to a home near Ketner Lake Open Space, according to a news release from the Westminster Police Department.

Authorities also said that charges will be filed against Sigg for the May 28 attempted abduction of an adult jogger near Ketner Lake, which authorities confirmed earlier this week was connected to Jessica's kidnapping and murder.

Sigg will be charged with two counts of murder in the first degree and a second-degree kidnapping charge, among others.

According to police documents, Sigg is a student at Arapahoe Community College. On March 23, he won second place in the Crime Scene Investigation division of the Health Occupation Students of America State Leadership Conference competition.

According to arrest documents, Sigg lives about a block west of Ketner Lake Open Space and about 1½ miles south of where Jessica Ridgeway was snatched from the street as she walked to school the morning of Oct. 5.

Police will release additional information at a news conference at 12:05 p.m. at the Westminster Police Department.
On Monday, police confirmed between Jessica's disappearance and the attempted abduction of an adult jogger on Memorial Day near Ketner Lake. That woman told authorities that a man attempted to cover her face with a chemical-soaked rag.

The woman said she initially jogged past the man before he grabbed her from behind, "trying to put a rag over her mouth. She said the rag had a chemical smell on it. She was able to get away and call 911 from her cellphone."

The woman described the man as white or light-skinned and between 18 and 30 years old, with brown hair and a medium build. He was about 5 feet 8 inches tall.

Jessica disappeared after she left her Westminster home
to walk to school. Her dismembered body was found 11 miles away in an Arvada open space on Oct. 9

IFFF she did do this to herself and it was not an act commited by others as she stated; she did it because she is seeking pity and has become mentally ill. She is sick in her soul, seeking attention and sympathy, like a little child. Poor thing. I feel sorry for her.

I don't pity her, or the basketball player that carved on herself, or the women who put acid on her own face. they aren't just wanting attention, they are wanting to bring another innocent person down.

Rob, this is not about the lesbian basketball player or the woman who put acid on her own face. This is an entirely different case. They are not all one and the same just because the perp did it to themselves.

However, can you deny that they are all in need of serious indepth mental health guidance and treatment?

Have you ever witnessed a mental health episode crisis in progress? Guess you haven't. If you ever had, maybe you could have a little pity, compassion, for someone in the throes of an irriational crisis. It's pathetic.

In any event, I don't think all the answers are in yet on this particular one.

Convicted murderer and Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel has been denied parole, a decade after being given a life sentence for beating his teenage neighbor to death with a golf club.

Skakel's request was rejected following a two-hour hearing on Wednesday in which he proclaimed his innocence.
The chair of the parole board at the Connecticut prison, Erika Tindill, said it was odd for Skakel to ask for early release while proclaiming he is innocent.

The victim's mother, Dorothy Moxley, said during the hearing in Suffield that Skakel should serve at least 20 years.
Skakel told the board that it 'is not an easy question to answer' as to whether he should be paroled, according to the Hartford Courant.

He added that he knew the best chance of being paroled was for him to admit to the crime.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr had appealed for his cousin's release, saying in a letter that Skakel is a model inmate and devoted to God. Skakel has submitted 65 letters in support of his release.

Skakel, 52, spoke slowly and softly during the hearing at McDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield, Connecticut saying: 'I did not commit crime.'

Other Kennedys have rallied around their relative, claiming that his trial was a miscarriage of justice. However relatives of 15-year-old murder victim Martha Moxley say Skakel has shown no remorse and should remain in prison for the rest of his life.

Skakel said on Wednesday that he prays every day that whoever committed the crime is brought to justice, but he is the wrong man.

'If I could ease Mrs. Moxley's pain in any way, shape or form I would take responsibility all day long for this crime,' Skakel said.

He added: 'I cannot bear false witness against myself.'
The heavyset, 52-year-old Skakel with gray, thinning hair wore a beige prison jumpsuit to the hearing. To support his claims of innocence, he told of how he became sober.
'I pose to you: how can a guilty man stay sober for 30 years with that kind of guilt on his mind?' he said.
Skakel, convicted in 2002, is eligible for parole consideration because of laws in place at the time of the crime including good behavior credits.

In letters to the parole board, Skakel's supporters, including his cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr., said Skakel has helped alcoholics recover.

They also portray him as religious and devoted to his son.
Many letters cite Skakel's art work in prison, saying he has made uplifting paintings that show his true nature, give joy to others and encourage family values.
Letters objecting to his parole cite the brutal nature of the crime and say releasing him early would be devastating to the victim's family.
'This person committed a heinous crime that gave many people a sentence of suffering that was irreversible,' one of the letters states.
'Why then should this person be given relief, when none is available for those who suffered the loss of a daughter, a sister, a dear friend.'
On Tuesday, Skakel filed a defamation lawsuit against CNN television host Nancy Grace and Tru-TV host Beth Karas, alleging they made false statements about evidence of Skakel's DNA near the crime scene.
The lawsuit, filed in Superior Court in Stamford, also named media companies Time Warner and Turner Broadcasting as defendants.
Skakel was sentenced to 20 years to life for beating Martha Moxley to death with a golf club in 1975 in Greenwich when they were 15-year-old neighbors. Skakel is a nephew of Robert F. Kennedy's widow, Ethel Kennedy.
'There's never been a person more deserving of parole than Michael Skakel,' his attorney, Hope Seeley, said in a statement.
'His track record during the past 10 years shows the person we all know him to be - caring, generous and committed to his faith, family and friends.

Tania Cadogan said...

'His conviction was a miscarriage of justice, but that aside, his further incarceration would also be a miscarriage of justice in light of the fact that he should have been sentenced as a juvenile.'
Skakel has lost appeals challenging his conviction that raised the juvenile issue and other claims.
He last appeared in court in January 2011, asking for his sentence to be shortened. A three-judge panel rejected the request, saying it was 'unjust and excessive'.
At the appearance, Skakel continued to maintain his innocence, telling the court: 'I didn't commit this crime... give me a polygraph. I pray for Mrs Moxley every single day.'
Martha Moxley's mother, Dorthy, and brother, John, want him kept in prison for life. Skakel has shown no remorse, John Moxley said.
'Michael Skakel is representative of the most dangerous aspect of our society in that he was raised in an environment in which he was exposed to and at some point embraced the mindset that the rules of our general society did not then and do not now apply to him,' Moxley wrote in a letter to the parole board.

'And, I believe that Michael Skakel's inbred sense of self and his self-confessed quick temper will always represent a threat to society.'
He said the murder continues to haunt him.
'No child should ever have to witness the pain I have seen my parents go through, which I know in my heart contributed to my father's early death,' Mr Moxley wrote.
Asked about the impact of the crime, Mr Moxley added: 'When you lose a loved one, it just never goes away.'
The state Supreme Court ruled in 2010 against Skakel's bid for a new trial, saying a claim implicating two other men in the killing wasn't credible.

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the case. Skakel has a habeas corpus appeal pending in state courts, accusing his trial attorney, Michael Sherman, of doing a poor job, a claim Sherman has rejected.

Skakel, who was arrested in 2000, has not had any disciplinary issues in prison, said Brian Garnett, spokesman for the state Department of Correction.
'Does Michael deserve to be paroled? Michael doesn't deserve to have been locked away for the last 10 years because he is innocent,' his brother John Skakel wrote in a letter to the parole board.
'But through this horrendous decade, Michael has been a model inmate and has chosen to use this time constructively.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2222434/Murdering-Kennedy-cousin-Michael-Skakel-facing-possible-freedom-serving-10-years-life-sentence.html

This is close, that is distancing. he says this crime which makes him close to it. The expected would be that crime if he were innocent.
If he did not commit this crime, what crime did he commit since he admits commiting a crime.
If he were innocent o any crime i would expect to see a first person, past tense event, specific denial, or i did not commit any crime which although weaker and would require further questions.
If he can't deny murder, neither can we.

I don't know when he will next come up for parole.
It is also interesting how many criminals suddenly find god when in prison.
Find god, act pious and get out of jail free.

Anybody can take anybody's words and snarl them all around Hobnob.

Personally, I do not believe Michael Skakel to be guilty. Never did. And not because he is a Kennedy relative. There was other evidence that was never considered that was not related to Michael. For instance, the private tutor was also on the grounds that night and had some time unaccounted for.

As to your comment that Michael never said he didn't kill Martha, he has said it many times, over and over, in every way imaginable. Also, in this case, you put too much emphasis on the word "this" as opposed to "that" in the manner which it was used.

As to him "finding God" in prison, the Kennedys and their relatives are devout catholic and always have been. Talking about God is nothing new to them, including Michael.

Anonymous said...

It's ludicrious that Michael Skakel was never given a polygraph, yet to this day he continues to beg for one.

I can understand him not showing remorse for a murder he did not commit! The very idea. How can you be remorseful for killing someone you didn't kill? Yet he's supposed to show the parole board how remorseful he is?

This is a statemnt analysis site. anything said can and will be analysed.

As peter points out often and clearly the subject is dead, the statement is alive.

I do not interpret what i think he mean, i do not accept misspeaks i look only at the words used, words which are said a microsecond after being thought.

The same rules are applied to all statements whether i am a fan of the subject or not, whether i believe they are innocent or guilty.

I do not say xxx is guilty because... and give the reasons in my analysis and then say zzz is innocent because any analysis of their statemwnt is wrong the analyst is jealous because
the subject rich, famous, good looking, same political party or religion, under the influence, poorly educated, their race or gender and I apply the same rules to everything i analyse.

Like Peter and his admiration of lance armstrong, i am disappointed when someone i liked reveals themselves to be a liar.
No one likes seeing someone they admire and held to be a good example turn out to be human like the rest of us and capable of crimes, infidelity, drugs or lying.

In the UK there is uproar over a now dead dj/tv presnter, volunteer and charity raiser jimmy savile.
Rumors had abounded for decades about him abusing young children yet everyone ignored it because he was the epitome of the good guy.
Police had investigated allegation yet nothing came of them, now going back to the late 50's victims are coming forward. It is now such that charities are and have distanced themselves from him, his headstone was removed and destroyed.
Looking back at interviews , when he was asked about the claims he passed them off and called themnonsense.
he never made a reliable 1st person past tense event specific denial.
If he couldn't deny it neither can we.
Before he died, in an interview he pretty much said the truth will come out and he will be seen as the bad guy but he didn't care.
The BBC is being investigated as to who knew what, multiple LE areas are involved and as of today 9 people including celebs are being investigated for child abuse. There is also a tv actor aged 17 charged with abuse.
Many of his supporters have now said they knew of the claims but believed he was innocent and the claims were out of spite or greed.
Because of his standing in society he was to all intents and purposes untouchable and he knew it.
It's not true, it's good ol' jimmy, he wouldn't harm a fly, he raises millions for charity. If he is prosecuted all the charities will suffer, think of all the children... blah blah blah.
he was freely given access to children in schools, hospitals including broadmoor and on tv.

I've seen this before - multiple charges of murder - and it is just a way of the DA to offer jurors choices to get a guilty conviction either way. However, the cases I know of offer first- degree then lesser degrees as options, such as manslaughter first etc. so maybe I'm wrong. Didn't the Colorado theater shooter get something like 146 charges?
