Who and what was confirmed? Please state source.

Please post news/LE source of stated info.

Jazzie, nothing has been confirmed, that I can find. Maybe the heading of this post should have a ? at the end of it. Also, as far as I could tell, it was a wooded area.

I HOPE the search is for Ayla. It may or may not be.

"Searchers off of Rowe Pond Road confirmed with TV5 they're investigating an old case. They say no one in the area should be worried because this is in relation to an old case "

From Jazzie's link:
" "We are conducting a search in Pleasant Ridge on a case we are not talking about publicly," McCausland said. "Specifically what we are looking for, we're also not talking about that publicly.""

Ayla's case has been highly publicized all along. If this is Ayla, why the sudden hush hush? I know he spoke in present tense, so as not to say it is not a case they haven't previously spoken of publicly, so it of course can't be ruled out, but why so quiet if it's related to Ayla?

MissUnderstood said...

JoJo, I'm not sure why it would be hush-hush now, but they did say they would not he announcing future searches. I'm thinking, they were using media quite a bit at the start of the case, that didn't seem to get them anywhere (that we know of), so maybe they are trying a different route?

Anon 9:13, thanks for the link. I think they just didn't want locals worried that something "new" happened. That doesn't rule the possibility of the search being about Ayla in or out for me.

Jazzie said...

"Department of Public Safety Spokesman, Steve McCausland, would not go into detail about what they're looking for, but did say, " this is an ongoing investigation that's been going on for some time."

Video states "they're investigating an older case" rather than an "old case" stated in version on internet:
http://statement-analysis.blogspot.com/2012/10/new-search-for-baby-ayla.html

Do the subtle differences in wording "old case" as opposed to "older case" make a difference?

Ayla Reynolds was reported missing Dec. 17, 2011.
It's October 4, 2012.
Just wondering. In terms of LE, what is defined as "old case" as opposed to almost a year old case?

So was it confirmed to not be Ayla they're searching for?

"McCausland said searches for Ayla will continue, but police will no longer “pre-announce” the times and locations of searches, as they had done during the winter and spring."

"On Thursday morning, 17 police cruisers could be seen on an old logging road off Rowe Pond Road in Pleasant Ridge Plantation, which is west of Bingham. Troopers on scene declined to say what they were looking for.

"We will have a better idea tomorrow of whether we will be continuing the investigation," McCausland said Thursday afternoon.

McCausland said the search does not have anything to do with Ayla, who was reported missing from her home Dec. 17 and whom police have presumed dead. Her father, Justin DiPietro, says she was abducted, but police have ruled that out and have said that DiPietro and two other adults who were in the house at the time are not telling authorities the whole story.

Police found blood belonging to the toddler in the basement of the house in January. They have continued to search for evidence of the girl's whereabouts, including in the Kennebec River and Messalonskee Stream in Waterville. No one has been charged in connection with her disappearance."

Could it be that this search IS for Ayla, but Mr. McCausland and LE don't want to say so because of the DiP's ?

Oh, I hope it is for Ayla !

Wouldn't it seem pretty obvious by now that McCausland & Co don't intend to do anything about any forthcoming justice for baby Ayla? Why the cat & mouse games? Right, they've had a tip on the QT. What's another tip to them. Meaningless. If they had a worthy tip and were out searching for AYLA, they would be anxious to say so, not putting on the sneaky "keeping it close to the vest" act.

Didn't they already have plenty of evidence to bring charges against those in the DiP home shortly after Ayla went missing when they detected her blood on the basement floor and were aware that there were three adults in the home that night who were not giving them the whole story, make that four when Mama DiP ALSO was shown to be a liar? They should have all been sitting UNDER the jail! A baby was missing and unaccounted for, they found her blood and everybody lied; but oh well, so what. Not good enough.

Just MAYBE Phoebe's connections down in the courthouse turns out to be bigger than anyone ever suspected. Ever think about THAT? 'Something' certainly prevented McCausland & Co from acting. NOW I'm really starting to wonder, whose the illegitimate DiP kids' daddy? See how the mind can wonder when you see and KNOW there's a sneaky stinking rat in the woodpile somewhere in all this? Or is it all just an inept LE who doesn't appear to know their a!! from a hole in the ground?

I wouldn't get my hopes up at this late date. They expected someone to hand Ayla over to them on a silver platter, and someone to come forth and admit 'yeah, I did it', but since no one did they have no case. uh huh... it ain't EVER gonna happen. Do baby killers ever come forth and admit what they did and hand over the dead baby? Rarely if ever. McCausland & Co let every opportunity go by to take action when they could have and failed to do so, and there's a pretty good reason for that. No confession, no body? Not good enough. Just an excuse.

I hate to be the one to say it, but the shows over folks. It's just another cold case to them, what's one more missing dead baby? I wish, hope, AND PRAY that it turns out that I'm wrong, and I'll be the first to admit it and apologize if I am, but it certainly doesn't look that way.

I believe the case has became huge with the drug connection and State Farm Insurance policy revelations. It is not just a homicide case but so much more. Many agencies are working on the case(s)

When it comes the legal system Everything seems to move so much slower than we wish. I truly believe Ayla will have justice in the end and we will all have something to celebrate.

I will continue being optimistic that all these recent cases will be solved and major changes will come from it.

Don't throw the sheriff/police dept under the bus so quickly. It's the prosecutor's office that decides whether or not to bring charges. I truly believe that McCausland wants this case solved as much as we do. I hope that do find her body, but one so small, its a needle in a haystack. Unless, of course, someone grows a conscience, and with this family, it doesn't look hopeful.

Anon....not all cases are closed shut right away. Some take YEARS, and it may be that Ayla gets her Justice years down the road. It's not a fast food drive thru, it's not about instant gratification, have faith that time will give Alya her justice. It's not LE's fault, it's the game being played by the Dips. Pull yourself back a bit and look at the big picture.....life does not always give you instant gratification, even though it's natural to crave it. Have faith for baby Ayla.

They ARE searching the water again today for Ayla:

I agree that none of these cast of human rejects are going to have a sudden attack of conscience...they are all in way too deep & with an overbearing gorilla like Justin as their ring leader, challenging anyone who won't believe his ridiculous story to a throw down...I'm sure they all know in the back of their minds that he would just as soon do away with all of them as well to save his a$$. Also the sister & girlfriend have their own kids to worry about losing to the state which I don't understand why that hasn't already happened! If LE wants to resolve this they need to arrest Justin, (of insurance fraud if nothing else), once he's in jail go round up the girlfriend and sisters kids and place them in state custody until they can prove they had nothing to do with Ayla's disappearance...it won't take long for them to decide protecting Justin isn't worth losing their own kids and roll on him once he's not there to threaten and keep the line. Missunderstood: Link doesn't work...and I can find nothing in the Press Herald.

MissUnderstood said...

Here's a different link, that sadly says they didn't find anything:

Ayla Reynolds: Police search Messalonskee Stream

Steve McCausland from the Maine Department of Public Safety says the dam operator lowered the water levels for routine maintenance. He says detectives and officers used the opportunity Friday to walk along the riverbank, focusing on the North Bridge area, to look for any signs of the missing toddler.

Searchers didn't find anything.

This one might work for you, in regards to the previous link. This is from The Morning Sentinel, but has the same content as the Press Herald article.

"Maine State Police detectives, Waterville police and a game warden searched a roughly half-mile area of the river, he said. Nothing related to Ayla Reynolds was recovered.

Police found a “pink bicycle. That’s it,” said McCausland."

OT: I wonder if anything new was learned from BJD's new spill on Blog Talk Radio this week. I wonder dud anyone hear it and if so was anything at all learned from it? I can't get the link to work with my app. Nothing appears.
