Passivity in Acid Attack

A 20 year old woman said that she was attacked by a woman in a burqua, who threw acid in her face, leaving her temporarily blinded and with severe burns.

Here is her statement made on TV:   "No words were spoken. There was no dialogue. I looked back and remember the person just staring at me.  The eyes were cold.  It was a cold stare."

What do we see in her statement?

1. "No words were spoken" is passive.

Passivity is often used to conceal identity or responsibility.

2.  Passivity:  "There was no dialogue."

This is also passive, and it has a language change from no "words" to "no dialogue."

3.  Change in wording.

Words have the tendency to remain the same unless there is a change in reality.  When there is no change in reality, we must ask if the change of words is an indication that the subject is not speaking from experiential memory.

4.  "I looked back and remember..."

Within an open statement, one can only tell us what they remember.

5.  "the person"

The "person" is gender neutral.  Why not the "woman" since her gender has been identified?

6.  "The eyes were cold" and "It was a cold stare" has the repetition of "cold", making it sensitive, but "it was a cold stare" is passive as well.  This appears to be an emotional recall, placed at the time of the alleged assault.  If "cold eyes" is to gauge an emotion, it would make the emotion appear to be artificially placed here in the alleged assault.

7.  She went from the "eyes" being cold to the "stare", which appears to be a change in language without anything appearing to change, in context (reality).

There is enough information in the statement to question if the subject knows the attacker and is concealing information.

Police should seek to learn:

Does she know the attacker?

Is she, herself, the attacker of a self inflicted wound?

Peter does the definite article come into to play here?.

"(THE) PERSON"

When we see someone or something for the first time we say"A car came round the corner.

Once we have seen the car we then say.
I saw THE car again.

She introduces the person as THE person.
For her to say that, she must have seen the person before?.

April Jones Murder: Mark Bridger On Trial.

The man accused of murdering April Jones faces court after conceding that he is "probably responsible" for the girl's death.8:51am UK, Monday 25 February 2013
Mark Bridger was arrested a day after April went missing.

Former lifeguard Mark Bridger will go on trial today accused of the murder of schoolgirl April Jones.

Bridger, 47, was arrested the day after the five-year-old vanished while playing on her bike near her home in Machynlleth, Wales, on October 1 last year.

April vanished in October last year
The disappearance of April, who had cerebral palsy, sparked a massive outpouring of support for her family, with hundreds of people joining the search.

The girl's body has never been found despite a major operation led by Dyfed Powys Police.

Bridger, of Ceinws, is charged with abducting and murdering April, and of unlawfully disposing of and concealing her body with intent to pervert the course of justice.

He pleaded not guilty to the allegations on January 14 when his barrister Brendan Kelly QC told Mold Crown Court that Bridger is "probably responsible" for her death.

The trial, also at Mold, is expected to be occupied with legal matters and jury selection today and is due to open later this week.

On the day she went missing, Mr and Mrs Jones had allowed April to play out late as a treat after she received a glowing report from school.

Bridger was arrested the following day.

She was blinded. She couldn't see a stare. Also, a natural reaction would be to turn from an attack to the face, not toward it.

Britain's Top Cardinal Keith O'Brien Resigns
The Catholic Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh, who has been a Cardinal since 2003, is accused of 'inappropriate behaviour'.11:19am UK, Monday 25 February 2013
Cardinal Keith O'Brien had been due to vote in the election of the new Pope

The most senior priest in the Roman Catholic Church in Britain Cardinal Keith O'Brien has resigned over allegations of innappropriate behaviour up to 30 years ago.

The news comes just a day after the claims by three priests and a former priest first surfaced.

Cardinal O'Brien confirmed that he was to step down immediately, saying in a statement: "The Holy Father has now decided that my resignation will take effect today."

The Cardinal should have been travelling to the Vatican this week to help choose the next Pope.

He said he would not be joining the conclave to choose a successor to Pope Benedict XVI, adding: "I do not wish media attention in Rome to be focused on me - but rather on Pope Benedict XVI and on his successor."

The Vatican confirmed the news soon after.

The Cardinal missed the traditional Sunday Mass on Sunday (February 24) after the Observer newspaper carried allegations relating to actions by him 30 years ago.

The claims emerged just days after Cardinal O'Brien had called for the Catholic Church to end its celibacy rule for the priesthood.

He had told the BBC: "I realise that many priests have found it very difficult to cope with celibacy as they lived out their priesthood, and felt the need of a companion, of a woman, to whom they could get married and raise a family of their own."

Bishop Stephen Robson, who is auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh, made a statement at St Mary's Cathedral in Edinburgh explaining why the Cardinal could not attend.

He said: "A number of allegations of inappropriate behaviour have been made against the Cardinal.

"The Cardinal has sought legal advice and it would be inappropriate to comment at this time. There will be further statements in due course.

"As always in times of need such as this we cannot not be saddened by the events of the last 24 hours.

Cardinal Keith O'Brien is the only British Roman Catholic cleric able to vote in the upcoming conclave electing Pope Benedict XVI's successor.

The 74-year-old, who is Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh, was created and proclaimed a cardinal by Pope John Paul II in October 2003.

He was ordained a priest on April 3, 1965.

Cardinal O'Brien served as assistant parish priest and as chaplain of St Columba Secondary School in Cowdenbeath, then was spiritual director of St Andrew's College in Drygrange and rector of St Mary's College, Blairs.

On August 5, 1985, he was ordained Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh.

He is no stranger to making the news with his views.

He has been an advocate of priests marrying but an outspoken opponent of plans to legalise same-sex marriage.

Last year his stance landed him the award, Bigot of the Year, from the gay rights group Stonewall.

In 2007 he caused controversy when speaking on the 40th anniversary of the Abortion Act he said the termination rate north of the border was equivalent to "two Dunblane massacres a day".

Catholic priests are usually guilt ridden child abusers so they"disguise"every aspect of themselves.

It´s been reported that two people, a man and a woman, are now in custody in connection with the attack on the young woman.

its been reported that police have confiscated her computer and she has done searches on acid attacks before being attacked.

A young Victoria's Secret sales assistant who says she was the victim of an acid attack may have inflicted the injuries on herself, according to reports.
UK police have discovered that Naomi Oni visited websites related to acid attacks before the gruesome Dec. 30 incident, which left the 20-year-old with temporary blindness and severe burns on her face, arm, hand and leg, the Telegraph reported.
Following the alleged attack, Oni told cops that a woman wearing a burqa tossed an unidentified liquid on her as she walked home from work in Dagenham, east London.

This is the article about the suspects arrested in the acid attack.

Her account sounds similar to Bethany Storro's who doused herself in acid several years ago. Her deception was discovered because the splash marks appeared to be inconsistent with an outside attack but were self inflicted. It will be interesting to see if the police come to the same conclusion in this instance.

Tania Cadogan said...

Her language was off, there was a lot a passivity with no anger. It was worth noting the alleged attacker was in a niqab thus concealing the face and identity making it easy for her to be unable to give a description.
Also there is no motive for a complete stranger in a niqab to throw acid at a complete stranger especially since nothing was apparantly said.
I would expect a verbal reason to be given for such an attack, be it her looks, her dress, her job, jealousy etc.
Even those with mental issue will say something, anything if they are deep in their psychosis.

A 21 yr old not naomi oni and a 28 year old man.

"When I first saw my face, I was shocked," she told ITV's This Morning. "I was angry that someone had done that to me. I couldn't understand why someone would want to hurt me like that.

This is close that is ditancing, why does she distance herself from what was allegedly done. For there to be a THAT there has to be a THIS, what is the THIS?

I wonder also why she was looking up acid attacks?
It is not something most people would do and is one hell of a coincidence if proven, "i looked up ascid attacks and lo and behold wihin a short period of time i get acid thrown at me."

I have to wonder if it was self inflicted or she had someone do it for her, does she have a history of mental issues, self harming perhaps, is she an attention seeker?

I would love to have a looksee at her police statement and see what was asked and her replies.
As it stands, from her tv interview it isn't passing my straight face test, something is off.

Does the arrest of suspects change anyone´s take on this?

If she would have used "this" instead, would have been more troubling. The fact that she distanced herself from the attack appears to be the expected. If I would have been doused with acid on my face, I would distance myself from what was done. I would have questioned who would do "that" to me.
I would prefer an expert "weigh-in" on this as it would help with identifying deceitful statements with the "expected".

Police arrest two suspects in attack.

Her language showed that she was seeking to conceal identity or responsibility in the attack. Why this would be, I don't know.

While 2 suspects have been arrested, it is that the NY Daily News is reporting that on the victim's computer, there were searches for acid attacks before her own attack.

Lottery like odds of coincidence?

Q: Did you run up and pull Lemons hair?

A: No, I didn't do that.

Q: OK What did you do?

A: I walked up and pulled her hair.

Do you see what is meant by this and that?
He didn't do the that which was run, he did the this which was walked.

For there to be a that, there has to be a this option

I am very surprised to think that she "knew" it was acid that was being thrown at her. What kind of container? I am very interested to see what experts think is the angle she was attacked from when this fluid was flying toward her. Also, up north, I would think it was water or maybe coffee. Here in the south, maybe sweet tea. It could have been anything. Why acid? With all the terrible crimes in the news today, MAYBE she had just happened to read about it. However, I would like to know if it was an article she stumbled upon from a news site or if she typed in acid into Mr. Google. If she did this to herself, she should be regretting it with all her heart and soul. If you can even imagine that kind of pain..... I'm betting she would have been surprised at how much pain was actually inflicted. What appears on the internet as words becomes ever so personal when its your skin burning off your face and your eyes being burned to the extent of blindness!!

Anon "I"

Something similar to John's statement that I noticed was the phrase "the eyes." The gender was revealed as Peter says, yet she goes a step further and disembodies them altogether, as if the eyes themselves were to blame. I wonder if she was looking at herself in the mirror when she did this and had some kind of disassociative experience.

Anonymous said...

Also, the inclusion of a burqa absolves her of responsibility for being able to identify her attacker, making the lie that much easier, if she is indeed lying. I thought perhaps she is distancing due to PTSD but her words have no passion and no emotion. No anger. One other thing is it is impossible to discern the order of events from her narrative. I think this may also play into the possibility of a disassociative identity episode. I disassosciated once after a horrible car accident. I could feel myself, my soul perhaps, but a separate entity that was more remote from the trauma and devastation and anxiety I was feeling still, five days after my accident. I remember looking down and thinking I do not want to be in this body anymore. This body is troubled and has (something like) a bad life. I came out of it quickly but it was terrifying. I had PTSD. But I remember clearly thinking of it as 'this body.' Depersonalization.

There's a great investigator in the UK who'd get to the bottom this "Jeremy Kyle".

Peter, could it be that it was her boyfriend? He would probably know she looked at acid attacks and maybe even was in on it or was retaliating for something. It would be interesting to know if she has a background of domestic violence. No mention of boyfriend as a suspect unless he was the male who was arrested and for some odd reason they aren' disclosing that.

The UK version of jerry springer.

I was at mom's for dinner one day and she had the show on. it was trash tv at it's finest, after 10 mins or so of him shouting at the guests and the guests lying through their teeth even she said enough and changed over.

Hasn't he quit? I do hope so.
