FBI Offers $20,000 For Myra Lewis

(CNN) -- More than a week ago, a 2-year-old girl with a wide grin and butterfly barrettes in her hair vanished in Mississippi.
Authorities hope she's still alive, and are offering a $20,000 reward for her return.
Myra Lewis was reported missing by her family on March 1 after playing with her sister outside their home in Camden, the FBI said.
She was last seen about 11 a.m. the same day wearing white or khaki pants, a turquoise sweater adorned with a bear, and pink tennis shoes. Myra is 37 inches tall and weighs 27 pounds.
"Since her disappearance was reported, multiple state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies have participated in a massive, collaborative search effort," the FBI Office in Jackson said.
"Significant resources have been dedicated to this investigation, including extensive ground and air searches, and utilization of specially trained search teams."
Despite the effort, the toddler remains missing, and the FBI is offering the money incentive for her return.
"We are confident that information will be uncovered which will lead to Myra's return, and we continue to solicit the public's assistance in locating this little girl," said Daniel McMullen, the FBI special agent in charge.
Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker told CNN affiliate WAPT that he believes the little girl is in the area.

Malaysia 'Nothing To Hide' Over Plane Search.

Officials have dismissed reports the plane continued flying for four hours after its last transmission early on Saturday morning.

John,

I have been following the airplane story closely. I just read today that the radar images of the "suspected crash site" released by the Chinese gov yesterday (even though China said they had them since the day after plane went missing) turned up nothing when searches went to look (even though Chinese gov said they were 3 very large pieces of debris). Then, the Chinese gov said that it was a mistake to release the image of the suspected crash sight, because they werent images of plane debris (after they said they thought it was)?? I am starting to believe the Chinese gov is behind the whole thing and has taken the plane!!!
Also, they are reporting the last words from someone on the flight crew to ground communications right before radar lost contact with the plane was "Alright, good night". I wanted to know what people here thought of those words. my impression is the words give away that they were not planning on communicating any further past that statement.

It seems to me the FBI think the little girl is alive, and possibly"sold"????? Offering the relatively small reward makes me think they think it's probably a scumbag scruff.

@John,

What do you think happened to the plane?

World News tonight reported that the plane continued to ping radars (showing it was still in flight) for 4 hours after it was lost from radar. The pings don't tell the direction of the flight or where (if) it landed/crashed. WN also reported that 3 systems aboard the plane were shut off one at a time, indicating that they were turned off and not as the result of the crash.

I didnt know that about the 3 systems being shut down! Cnn is saying now that us official thinks it may be on bottom of ocean floor, but earlier they were saying that no beacon had gone off alerting that it had crashed into ocean or land. I think the plane was hijacked or an inside terrorist job but what I dont get is if they just planned to crash it into ocean why would they make the plane go "invisible"? I think they may have landed it somewhere for whatever reason, taken the plane. So many things dont add up!

The fact that it was still in the air for 4 hours means that the search area could be in a diameter of 2400 miles in any direction (according to the News). WN also mentioned the unlikely possibility of pilot suicide.

__________

He calls it an 'investigation' not 'search'. The inclusion of the amount of 'resources' could be in response to the father's comment regarding the search being inadequate.

"We are confident that information will be uncovered which will lead to Myra's return, and we continue to solicit the public's assistance in locating this little girl," said Daniel McMullen, the FBI special agent in charge.
__________

'uncovered' is an interesting choice of words. That which is covered, to be 'uncovered' which will lead to 'Myra's return', noting the exclusion of the word 'safe'. It is 'Myra's return' but 'locating this little girl'. This is a change in language.

Good points, Lemon. The opening sentence grabs my attention, "Since her disappearance was reported..." Why mention "reported"? Why in passive voice?

@Lemon I agree....the word safe is missing and with the several searches of the pond, it shows that they are not looking for a safe return. It is sad.
